Well, that was a quick turn of events. I know that it wasn't exactly something that you expected, but I just realized that it's US Thanksgiving Day in my story; and that means that I can do that right now. Plus, it means that I can get more family characters involved for the first time. More specifically, I can get Eva and Diego involved in the story. Hope you enjoy and sorry for the long delay in between posts. I got distracted from what I was doing. Now, onto Chapter FIFTY!
Chapter Fifty: A Dawson Thanksgiving - Part One
Her husband looked quite handsome as he proudly wore the nice suit jacket that his wife recently got for him, even though this was not it's original purpose. The original purpose? It was going to be used as part of a hypothetical future fundraising outfit, if they were going to do it. But for now, him wearing it to her family's Thanksgiving celebration was something nice. Also, it was the perfect outfit to wear when it's only two in the afternoon. And that was something that concerned the wife, whether her husband was ready to stay for a while. I mean, they are here quite early; and are they really going to stay all afternoon. Yes, the wife did bring some comfortable clothes along with her (as well as wearing a tight dress to show off her baby bump); but she still didn't want to make her husband feel like they NEED to be here. If he didn't want to be here that long, then that was fine. However, Matt had other things on his mind at the moment. More specifically, how he was going to say the same thing to his wife; the woman whom he knows loves to spend time with her family, whenever she can.
And that didn't just mean her biological family, it also included her firehouse family; they were really close, and he was really glad that he had them. But right now, they had a real opportunity to spend some time with his in-laws. And he hoped that Gabby would be bouncing off the walls, happy about that; but she wasn't, and you know why. So, they were going to talk about it; starting with Gabby bringing up the topic of conversation that she wants to talk about as a way to allow her husband to concentrate on the snow-covered, icy roads this afternoon. "Baby, I want to let you know that we don't have to stay long." Snickering when Gabby said that, Matt was a bit taken aback that she was the one who was mentioning that to him; especially when he was (as you know) just thinking the same thing moments earlier. "Baby, I mean it we…." Matt then went to stop his wife, wanting to calm her down. "Okay, take a breath and just relax baby." Gabby agreed with Matt.
Taking a breath for him this afternoon, Gabby put her hands on her stomach as she rubbed it. "Baby, you have a chance to spend Thanksgiving with your family. We're not working, and we have this chance. Plus, I wouldn't mind talking to Antonio." Gabby was confused when she heard Matt say that, turning her head. "And why's that. Oh god, did he slip…" Matt shook his head when he heard his wife say that, not wanting to make her worry as to whether her brother broke his sobriety on drugs. "No, no. I just…we haven't spoken since the whole coming back stuff, and the uh…" Gabby laughed. "When he caught us skinny dipping in the pool." Matt nodded as he proceeded to scratch the back of his head. "Yeah, that. But yeah, we haven't spoken since then and…I thought it'd be nice to catch up. See where he's landed, and we can just…I can get ideas on maybe what I could expect for the future when it comes to a pregnancy." Gabby looked at him, laughing.
"I know, it's a hard topic to talk about. It's just…we haven't ever gone far in a pregnancy, and I have no idea what to expect. Let alone what to expect with a twin pregnancy, so I just wanted to talk to him; and I wanted to hear from him what he did when Laura was pregnant, and maybe I can get some hints." Gabby laughed when her husband asked her that, smiling. "I really like the sound of that baby, and that's sweet of you. But I am going to rest, and take it easy." Matt nodded when he heard his wife say that, glad that was what she planned to do. "Good, because that was what I was going to tell you to do anyways…" Matt said, making the turn his GPS just told him to take. Yes, they are using a GPS as this is the first time that they've driven from their new home to Gabby's mother's place. But back to the conversation. "…I don't want you to get too stressed, nor do I want you to ever feel uncomfortable. And you can wear the sweats whenever you want to wear them."
Gabby agreed with Matt when he told her that, smiling as she absolutely loved the sound of what her husband was telling her. "I was going to try and at least go until supper without having to put sweats on…" Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, completely understanding why she said that. "…but if I start to get uncomfortable, I promise that I will excuse myself and get changed. I know that me being comfortable is much more important than me wearing a dress." Matt smirked when he heard Gabby say that. "Not that I don't love the sight of you wearing that sexy, tight dress for me baby; because I really do, as it is very sexy." Gabby smirked when she heard Matt say that, loving all the compliments that he's giving her right now; especially when she's wearing lingerie under the dress. "Don't worry, you'll get me later." Matt laughed when he heard Gabby say that, already well aware of the fact that he was going to get her later.
"Oh trust me, that wasn't ever a question." Gabby looked at her husband when he said that. "Last time I checked, I'm the one who's pregnant mister." Matt snickered (again). "And I'm not the one who decided to put that sexy lingerie on, underneath a tight dress that your husband can't take off until we're home Ms. Casey!" Gabby just laughed when she heard matt say that, well aware of just what she did to him. "OK, I'll give you that." Matt laughed (again). "You better give me that because it's the truth. You put sexy lingerie on, and I'm going to get it whether it's on or off tonight. If you don't want sex, then that's fine; but I'm going to be the one who gets to take off that dress, and I'm going to be the one who gets to run my hands all over that nice body of yours." Gabby smirked. "Yeah, I need a bunch of rest tonight." Matt was confused. "Ok, why do you need a bunch of rest tonight specifically? Don't you need a bunch of rest each and every night?"
Gabby smirked. "Well, here's the thing. Tomorrow, you're taking me shopping." Pulling to a stop at the stoplight he just pulled up to, Matt turned to look at his wife. "Say what now? What's this about me taking you shopping?" Gabby smiled when she heard Matt say that, laughing because of the way he said it. "Oh baby, tomorrow's Black Friday. Tomorrow we hit the stores for baby things. Oh, and we do Christmas shopping; me and Antonio need to talk. Diego wants an iPhone, and Laura is against it unless Antonio pays to get it. So, I was thinking of contributing 50/50 with him." Matt went ahead and shut that down. "Absolutely not!" Gabby looked at her husband when he said that. "Excuse me?" Matt just took a breath. "Yeah, because then my sister will come to us and say….we'll you did for Gabby's nephew. Why can't you do it for your niece? You know, your only biological niece. Sorry but, that's like paying for a whole iPhone for people who aren't our kids!"
Gabby thought about it, and ended up agreeing with her husband, because that was the truth. "Plus, last time I checked; we're having twins. So, I don't know 'bout you…but my nieces and nephew should not expect much from their uncle Matt, and aunt Gabby. Sorry baby, but our money is split between the essentials, the mortgage, heat, and the baby. We have those savings that we made for the trip. And that's our Christmas budget. We had like $1,000 left in the account last time I checked after the trip. And baby, that's all you got for our nieces, our nephew, our siblings, and the in-laws. So, yeah…gifts can't go above $100 this year." Gabby thought about it. "Okay, that's fair; and I agree to using those savings for Christmas." Matt laughed. "Oh honey, that was never up for debate. I have to make money for two kids." Gabby took a breath. "Are you worried about that?" Matt took a breath. "Yeah, I am. But we'll figure it out, I promise." Gabby then took a breath.
"I can work while I'm…." Matt stopped that right away. "Absolutely not. We've wanted these babies for too long. I am not having you work after what happened last time. I want you safe, and I want you to rest. I don't care if you don't have an aneurysm. I want you to take it easy, and I want you to enjoy this pregnancy. Baby, we have the bar, we have my job. That's enough, and we also have you on pregnancy leave. So baby, we got it okay? I just…" Gabby then put her hand on that of her husband's. "I understand baby. I know what you're trying to say." Matt took a breath, agreeing with his wife when she told him that. "I'm glad, because I was starting to worry that I wasn't going to get that lingerie tonight." Gabby just laughed. "Of course, you were." Matt nodded, smirking as he continued to drive towards his mother-in-law's home. "We talk to your brother tonight okay? We tell him that we aren't splitting the bill." Gabby agreed with Matt, smiling. "Deal."
The couple both smiled as they arrived at her mom's place, Matt proudly holding his wife's hand as he helped her up the slippery driveway (him wanting to make sure that she didn't fall). "I'm sure that your mom is going to be fine with us not having brought anything baby, she probably doesn't even expect us to be here." Gabby thought about it, laughing as she agreed with her husband when he said that. "Yeah, because I told her that we're on shift." Matt smiled when he heard her say that. "That, and I'm sure that we could always play the 'I'm tired because I'm pregnant with twins' card with her." Gabby shook her head when she heard that, proceeding to slap her husband's chest as she didn't like the sound of that. "If I ever hear you use our children as a reason to get out of doing something, then I am going to be restricting your sex for a week." Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that. "Yes ma'am. I'll just do the dishes instead." Gabby agreed with Matt, nodding.
"Good boy. Now, be the dutiful husband and lead your wife inside would you? Oh, and make sure that we leave here on time. I set up the parade to record, and I want to watch it before I doze off." Matt agreed with his wife when she told him that, smiling as that sounded like fun. "Oh, I love the sound of that; especially since it means that I get some cuddle time with my wife in her lingerie." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling as she really liked that idea. "And I get some cuddle time to calm my hormones down, as my husband is clad in nothing but his boxers for me." Matt agreed with Gabby when she told him that, smiling as he turned his head and then kissed the top of her head. "Deal Ms. Casey." Gabby agreed with Matt when he told her that, smiling as they made their way up to the front door of her mother's home. Carefully walking up the steps, Matt smiled as he kept his hand on Gabby's back while walking up to the front door.
Afterwards, he watched as Gabby opened the screen and then went to knock. That's when the couple recognized a voice, a voice that could be recognized from anywhere. Turning to look at each other, Matt and Gabby both hoped to god that they were wrong. "I got it Camila, I'm right by the door." Seeing the woman walk up to the door, Gabby was shocked; shocked at the nerve of this woman to be in HER FAMILY HOME. Did she really think that she wouldn't find out? That she wouldn't find out that she's in a relationship with her brother once again. And the way she spoke to her mother, as if she's part of the family; when she assaulted HER. When she assaulted a Captain's wife. Oh hell no. This woman isn't going to be ANYWHERE around her, or her twins. Not now, not when her twins are born, not ever! This is HER HOME. She can leave. Just looking at the woman from the other side of the door, Gabby looked at her husband. "Baby, am I dreaming or is that bitch here?"
Matt just looked at Gabby when she said that, nodding. Gabby then went ahead and proceeded to just walk into her family home, just walking past the bitch. "Gabby. Watch it…" Gabby then turned to look at her. "That's Ms. Casey to you. You lost every single right to call me by my first name when you did what you did." Gabby just turned to look at her husband. "Baby, I'm going to say hi to my mom. Do us all a favor and make sure that the door hits her on her way out?" Sylvie looked at Gabby when she said that. "Excuse me? But what are you talking about?" Matt then proceeded to step past her, knowing her needed to defend Gabby; that was, until her head her brother. "Oh, Gabby. What are you doing here?" Gabby then turned to look at her brother. "I'm here to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. Meanwhile, Brett is leaving! Also, my mother's name isn't Camila to you! It's Ms. Dawson thank you very much." Antonio then turned to look at his sister.
"Sis, Sylvie is my girlfriend…" Gabby then looked at her brother when he heard that. "Yeah, that isn't happening if you want to be one of the godfathers!" Antonio just looked at his sister. "Gabby, what are you even doing here? I thought you had shift Matt." Matt agreed with Antonio when he said that. "Severide got hurt on shift." Sylvie then turned to look at her friend. "Oh god, is he okay?" Matt sighed. "He's in the hospital and out for a while." Gabby then turned to look at Matt. "Matt, why are you talking to her? The longer you talk to her, the longer she's here." Gabby then went ahead and took off her boots. "Baby, can you help me with my jacket?" That's when Gabby's mom came to see her. "Sorry, but did I just hear my beautiful daughter come in?" Gabby smiled when she heard her mom. "Hi mama." She then walked over to her, going to hug her. "What are you doing here?" Gabby then turned to look at her. "It's a nice surprise, isn't it?"
Camila smiled. "God, I am so glad that you both came. Listen, I made enough food, but I didn't set out enough place settings. Antonio, come help me. I need to change the table and put two more out." Gabby shook her head. "Oh no mom, just one. Unfortunately, Sylvie will be leaving us today." Camila was confused when her daughter told her that, turning her head. "She…is?" Gabby just looked at Sylvie. "Sorry, but I don't want women who assaulted me anywhere near my children." Antonio turned to look at Sylvie when she said that, backing away. "Hold on a second, you told me that you weren't riding with Gabby that day! And you said that…" Gabby then looked at her brother. "And you took her word for it? Oh hermano, so gullible. Unfortunately, Sylvie knows that you'll believe your sister before you believe her. Isn't that right godfather?" Matt then went ahead and walked in, trying to calm things down. "Okay, maybe we take this down…"
Gabby then turned to look at her husband, giving him her glare. "Or I can go say hi to Eva and Diego, while you deal with this." Gabby agreed with her husband. "I have my water jug in the bag we brought, the bag with my clothes. Can you please fill it up for me?" Matt nodded as he looked at his wife, giving her a quick kiss as he proceeded to grab her jacket. "Here, give me your jacket too." Gabby agreed with Matt. "Mom, can you show Matt where to put my jacket down? Me and Antonio can deal with this. And mom, she will be leaving. So just one place setting." Camila agreed with her daughter, not wanting to argue with her; especially not when she's (1) pregnant, and (2) giving her this blessing. "C'mon Matthew, let's catch up. It's been since Puerto Rico." Matt agreed with Camila, going to walk away; but first, he looked at his wife. "Gabby, don't push it okay? Remember that you're pregnant. Put the health and safety of our children first." Gabby agreed.
"I promise baby." Matt agreed with his wife, taking a breath as he walked away to go speak to her mother. At the same time, Gabby turned to look at Sylvie once more while putting her hands on her hips. "So, what exactly are you still doing here?" Sylvie looked at Gabby when she said that. "Gabby, it was nothing. Please, don't do this." Gabby laughed. "It was nothing. Honey, you should be jail right now. You broke the law and got fired for it. Honey, that's not NOTHING. Gabby then got close to her. "You assaulted your officer, and a Captain's Wife! Sorry but, that isn't nothing. You breaking the law, and doing what you did to get fired; that's not something I want." Gabby then turned to look at her brother. "Antonio, I am giving you two choices; you can either (1) stay here and make her leave; or (2) leave with her, and loose your chance at being a godfather to one of the twins. I'm leaving it up to you. It's either Sylvie or your spot as a godfather." Gabby then turned away, proceeding to walk away so that she can go be with her mom and husband right now.
Antonio's POV:
Turning to look at Gabby as she walked away, I took a breath; afterwards, I turned to look at the woman who assaulted my baby sister. The woman who hurt my sister. "So?" Sylvie just looked at me. "So…what?" I just looked at her. "So, what do you have to say for that? For the lies you told me, that my baby sister was the one who did that." Sylvie looked at me. "Antonio, I…" I just looked at her. "Sylvie, you lied to me; and you hurt my sister. YOU HURT MY SISTER." Sylvie just looked at me. "I was having a hard day." I looked at her. "You were having a hard day? Well, you know what, so did my sister. She got the news that she didn't think it was safe for her to have baby days before!" Sylvie was shocked. "That's why she was…" I just looked at her. "No, don't change the topic. You assaulted my sister? Sylvie…" Sylvie then looked at me. "Antonio, we can get past…." I looked at her. "We can get past you assaulting my sister? Bitch please, get out of here right now!"
Sylvie was about to say something, but I went to grab her coat and shoes. Pushing them towards her, I went to kick her out before slamming the door behind her. God, I am such an idiot. That's when I heard Matt walk back over to me, taking a breath. "Uhm…sorry, I just had to come check." I looked at him. "She did all of that, didn't she?" Matt sighed. "Trust me, that was the same reaction I had about it when I learned about it." I nodded and took a breath. "Where's Gabby?" Matt sighed. "She's taking a moment in the living room. Antonio, I'm so sorry about this but…I just couldn't have her here when she assaulted my wife, especially not when she's pregnant." I put my hands up when she said that. "Hey, don't even think about that Matt. You have every right to protect your wife, and that was the right thing. God, I can't believe that I was go gullible." Matt sighed. "I can't say that I didn't feel the same way when I first heard it from Gabby." I was confused.
"The entire summer that Gabby was gone, Sylvie was laying the seeds of doubt in my head about Gabby's story; the story that she had to know that she was going to share with me once she was home. The bitch actually thought that she could convince me that my wife would be lying to me, especially about something this serious." I sighed and just looked at him. "I can't believe that I ever believed Sylvie, I feel like an idiot." Matt agreed with me, putting his hand on my shoulder. "Hey, at least you didn't get her pregnant." I laughed when he said that. "How's Gabby's pregnancy doing anyways?" Matt smiled. "Gabby's going to spend some time with her mom, how about me and you go sit down. I wouldn't mind talking to you anyways." I was confused when I heard that, until I started to think about it. "What'd you do?" Matt was shocked. "You really think I would tell you if we were having problems? I just want to hang out with my brother-in-law right now."
That's when Matt heard Gabby. "Matt, just go sit in the living room with my brother. It's still early. Put our bag down and then pick a couch. We're all going to catch up. Also, Antonio; get your kids here! I want to see Eva and Diego!" I just laughed when I heard that, turning to look at my brother-in-law. "Well, I think we both know what we're doing." Matt then put his hands up. "I'm not getting involved. I'm not getting in trouble with my wife." Antonio agreed with me when I said that. "Gabby, I'm going to talk to Antonio about the pregnancy okay?" Gabby agreed. "Of course, Matt, go ahead. Now, just go sit down and relax. Maybe talk to Antonio about why you're leaving the fire department." I turned to look at Matt when he said that, quite surprised that he left the fire department AGAIN. "You left the Chicago Fire Department again?" That's when Gabby came into the room. "Matt will explain it to you all. Matt, I'm sitting on a bar stool; so take it easy."
General POV:
Looking at his wife, Matt smiled as he agreed with Gabby. "Antonio, how about you call your kids?" Antonio agreed, walking into the living room to call Eva and Diego. At the same time, Matt wrapped his arms around Gabby and looked at her. "Hey, promise me that you take it easy and don't push it. Come sit down with me every once and a while, and talk to your mom about taking a nap this afternoon. If you need me to sleep, then I can do it." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling as she looked up at the man of her dreams. She then leaned up, proceeding to kiss the man of her dreams softly. "I promise, I'll come join you soon okay? I want to talk to my mom for a bit. Is that okay?" Matt nodded, agreeing with his wife when she asked him whether it was ok if she spends some time with her mom right now. "Hey, of course it is Gabby."
Matt then proceeded to smile at his beautiful wife. "Baby, you can always talk to your mom whenever you want; I'm not going to stop you from spending time with her. Plus, like I said…I need a bit of guy time." Gabby agreed with her loving husband when he said that, smiling as she got close to him. She then wrapped her arm around Matt, smirking as she leaned up and kissed him softly. Just taking things nice and slow with the man of her dreams, Gabby smirked due to the fact that she loves him more than anything in the entire world; and she is so proud that he's also the father of her children. "I'm glad that we came. Thanks baby." Grabbing his wife's hand, Matt smiled as he stroked it with his thumb. "Hey, I want to be here too baby. Now, I'm going to go sit down. Have fun with your mom." Gabby agreed, smiling as she walked away.
At the same time, Matt took a breath and proceeded to make his way into the living room so that he can talk to his brother-in-law about just why he decided to leave the CFD again.
