Chapter Fifty-Four
Thanksgiving Night Alone – Part Two
Making his way out of the washroom shortly after getting ready for bed, and stripping down to his boxers; Matt smiled at the sight of his beautiful wife as she (tried) to relax in bed while she watched some TV. (More specifically, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade that they plan on watching tonight). And he loved the sight, as this is exactly what she needs right now; she needs to relax in bed, and she needs to be held by him as they relaxed in bed together as husband-and-wife. After all, it's what they plan on doing with each other as they spend their Thanksgiving night alone. Right now, Gabby is just so overwhelmed; so overwhelmed that she won't even deny it, as it's clear as day that's what's going on right now. Matt can just see it in the way that she's laying down in bed. Matt knows his wife too well for him to ever believe that the way she's laying down in bed right now, all stiff and uncomfortable; is any way that she would be laying down if she were truly relaxed. No, this posture of hers is her stressed posture; and that was not a nice sight, as this isn't what he wants for her.
But that doesn't mean that's how she's going to be for the rest of the night, as Matt already has plans to help her get through what she's dealing with; and that's to make her open up to her, which she will if it's the last think that he gets her to do. The reason? The only way for him to be able to find a way for him to truly help the woman he loves more than anything in the whole wide world, is for her to open up to him; and she also has to tell him what's wrong, so that he can find a way to fix or mitigate some of the things that are wrong right now. He already knows that he can't fix everything, but he's going to try his best to do whatever he can to help her find a way to get through this situation that they find themselves in; and that starts with him getting in bed with his beautiful wife. Looking at Gabby as he walked up to his side table with his phone in his hand, Matt smiled at his beautiful wife as a way to reassure her that it'll all be okay tonight.
"You ready for me to join you in bed?" Turning her attention away from the TV, Gabby finally realized that Matt was there. "Oh, sorry baby, I didn't hear you come out of the washroom." Matt nodded when he heard Gabby say that, well aware that she was truly deep in thought at the moment. "You seemed like you were thinking about something? Do you have a lot on your mind right now Gabby?" Gabby took a breath, before letting it out as she tried to relax for the sake of their children. "Yeah, and I'm also trying to keep my emotions in check; while also trying to stay as healthy as I can for the sake of our children." Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, proceeding to climb into bed with the woman he loves; moving close to her this evening, Matt smiled as he proceeded to wrap his arm around her and then put his hand on her stomach. "Baby, you know that you don't have to hide from me right? Do you want to talk to me about how you're feeling right now?"
Gabby nodded when Matt asked her whether she wants to talk to him about how she's feeling right now, not really feeling like she has a choice in the matter. "Do you want to lay down next to each other? Or would you rather lay down on my chest?" Gabby took a breath when Matt asked her how she wants to lay down together tonight, just wanting him to hold her close no matter what way she lays down with him tonight. "Can you lay down next to me, but really close to me? I want you to still be close to me, but I want to stare into your eyes." Matt nodded as he bent down and kissed Gabby's forehead softly, completely understanding why she wants him to do that for her. "Hey, look up at me baby." Gabby nodded. "I will do that for you, because I want to help you baby." Gabby nodded, leaning up to kiss her loving husband softly. "I'm going to lay down now okay?" Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that, smiling as he moved out of the way a little bit.
Afterwards, Gabby proceeded to slip down into bed. Laying down, Gabby took a breath while rolling over onto her side this evening as she got comfortable in bed. Looking at his beautiful wife as she was laying down next to him, Matt smirked as he proceeded to do the same thing. Slipping down into bed, Matt rolled over onto his side before getting close to the woman of his dreams. Moving his hand to her back shortly after getting close to her, Matt smiled as he stroked it with his thumb; at the same time, Gabby moved her hand to his back as well and stroked it too. "I'm glad that we're going to talk about this." Matt nodded. "Me too, because I know that; if we do this together, we'll be able to get through this." Gabby nodded as she heard Matt say that, feeling the same way. She then smiled when she felt Matt get really close to her, and bend down to kiss her softly. Moving her hand to Matt's chest, Gabby smiled as she and her man shared a really nice kiss this evening.
Putting his hand on her stomach as they shared a kiss, Matt smirked as this truly is exactly what she needs form him right now; she needs him to hold her close, and just help her relax. So, Matt decided to bring Gabby even closer to his chest as he continued to take things nice and slow with the woman of his dreams. Slipping her legs in between Matt's, Gabby smiled as she wrapped her arms around his back while continuing to kiss him slowly. Grabbing the covers as they share a kiss this evening, Matt tugged them up as a way for the both of them to stay warm and comfortable; a comfort that he hoped would help Gabby open up to him as he decided that now was the time, the time to bring up the topic of their conversation this evening. "Baby, what's going on? I can see that there's a lot going on in your mind right now." Gabby took a breath when she heard Matt say that, before nodding as a way to acknowledge that there was in fact, a lot on her mind right now.
"Yeah, there is." Matt nodded. "What's going on Gabby? Talk to me. You need to let me in so that I can help you. So please baby, I'm asking you to let me help you." Gabby nodded. "Well, I've been feeling this way for a while if we're being completely honest with each other." Matt nodded. "How long is a while?" Gabby took a breath and looked down. "All day, since we left to go to my mom's place." Matt then realized what was wrong. "I just…I have been wondering whether we should've even gone, I felt horrible there today." Matt was confused. "Hey, take a breath and talk to me baby; let me understand." Gabby sighed. "Baby, I felt horrible today. It felt like an outer-body experience. I wanted to be there today, but it was because I felt like I had to be there today. I thought…we have a day off, we go to my mom's because it's a holiday. But I think that was just me trying to do something, something to change my mind about how I've been feeling."
Matt agreed with his wife when she said that, starting to understand (somewhat) how she's feeling right now. But he doesn't (yet) completely understand how she's feeling, but he hopes that changes soon as he plans on continuing to listen to her talk to him. "Baby, just tell me the truth about how you're feeling right now. Just be honest with me." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, deciding to wrap her arms around his torso even more. Afterwards, Matt put his hand on her hip and decided to roll over so that he was hovering on top of the most beautiful woman in the entire world; moving his hand to her neck, Matt smiled as he bent down and proceeded to kiss the woman of his dreams softly. Taking things slow with Matt, Gabby was glad that they were sharing this kiss at the moment; this was exactly what she needed from her husband right now, for him to show her love in a non-sexual way. Rather, he's loving her in a more passionate way.
And she truly loves it, as it's the perfect way for a man to love his wife; the way Matt just kisses her and holds her in his arms, it's exactly how Gabby wants to feel. But one way that she doesn't want to feel, is how she's been feeling ever since they left the hospital. "Baby, can I continue?" Matt nodded, continuing to hover over her as he laid down on his side (keeping Gabby on her back) while putting his hand on her stomach to stroke it with his thumb. Smiling as she felt Matt stroke her stomach with his thumb, Gabby put her hand on his face as she stared into his eyes. "I haven't been feeling like myself ever since we were at the hospital, and I have just been…" Matt understood right away what she was talking about. "Yeah, you don't even need to explain it Gabby. I noticed that you were off a bit today." Gabby sighed. "I think, me going to my mom's place for thanksgiving…it was more trying to just figure out a way for me to feel normal." Matt agreed with her.
"It was just what, at least what I thought I needed, on a day where everything just wasn't normal. Is that crazy?" Matt shook his head when Gabby asked him if it was crazy that, she wanted to do something normal to feel normal. "Hey, of course it isn't crazy baby. Today, you've gone through a roller-coaster of emotions. And right now, we need to do whatever we can to make sure that we're both okay; but especially you since you're pregnant." Gabby agreed with her loving husband when he told her that, taking a breath. "I just hate that this is all happening while I'm pregnant." Matt was confused when she said that. "Hey, why's that baby?" Gabby took a breath. "It's because I don't want to have a…" Matt just knew right away what she was trying to say, because he felt the same way. "Hey, you aren't going to miscarry baby." Matt then rolled over onto his side once again, bringing Gabby with him before tugging her body against his this evening.
Wrapping both his arms (and legs) around Gabby to keep her right against his body, Matt smiled as he looked at his beautiful wife as a way to calm her down; at the same time, Gabby wrapped her arms around his back before leaning in and kissing the man of her dreams. Taking things nice and slow with Matt, Gabby smiled as she started to feel a bit happier right now. "So, are you going to talk to me more?" Gabby took a breath. "I'm just scared Matt. I mean, Benny got hurt; he's a dad, he's in the ICU…and I'm pregnant. And it all happened on your first day back. I'm sorry if I'm a bit emotional about all of this, and he isn't even my dad." Matt agreed with Gabby when she said that. "Does it remind you of your dad? I had a feeling that it did earlier, when I told Chief we couldn't be back but…" Gabby nodded when Matt asked her whether it was reminding her of what happened to her dad last year. Afterwards, Matt kissed her forehead as he held her close to his chest. "Baby, are you okay? Be honest with me." Gabby shook her head. "I don't think I'm going to be okay for a while." Matt nodded when Gabby told him that she doesn't think that she's going to be okay for a while.
"Do you still want to talk? Or do you want to take it easy?" Gabby bit her lip. "Can we talk?" Matt nodded. "Of course, we can keep talking. Baby, just keep telling me what's going on in your mind right now." Gabby agreed with her husband. "Matt, there's a lot going on in my mind right now; some things that I haven't even processed, so you'll have to take it easy with me." Matt nodded. "And we'll take it as slow or as fast as you want." Gabby agreed with Matt. "I just hate this feeling that I have right now; I mean, we have so many questions to deal with after you quit the CFD again. And I just don't know what's going on anymore. I'm just overwhelmed, and I feel like I'm loosing control." Matt agreed with his wife when she said that. "And you hate that feeling?" Gabby nodded. "Baby, I'm sorry I feel that way. I'm really sorry." Matt shook his head, wrapping his arms around Gabby tighter before pressing his lips to her forehead as he held her close to his chest.
Wrapping her arms around Matt's back, Gabby cuddled up to her husband and just tared up a bit. "Hey, you have nothing to apologize about." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, just trying to breathe as they held each other close. "I mean, I have so many questions right now." Looking down into Gabby's eyes, Matt agreed with her. "Want to ask me some of the questions?" Gabby nodded. "Yeah, can I?" Matt agreed. "Yeah, but I have one first. Are you okay?" Gabby took a breath, looking down when Matt asked her that question. However, Matt didn't want her to look down; so, he used his lips to push her head up. "Hey, look at me." Gabby agreed with Matt, looking up at him while he wrapped his arm around her back. Running his hand up and down Gabby's back, Matt smiled as he bent down and kissed her softly. "Baby, talk to me about how you're feeling right now." Gabby agreed with Matt when he told her that, taking a breath before speaking.
"All day, I have been trying to enjoy thanksgiving as much as I can…and then Matt, you quit the CFD because of it; and I can't help but think about it. I mean, his dad is in a Coma. And it got me thinking, what if…" Matt then took a breath. "If that could be a possibility if I chose to go back." Gabby nodded, looking down. "And I'm just worried. I don't know what's going to happen. I mean, you keep going back and forth but…" Matt shook his head. "Not anymore baby. I'm done at the CFD, because you need me to be done. I don't want to put any more stress on you. And I'm not just talking about during the pregnancy, I mean for the rest of my life." Gabby agreed with Matt when he said that, smiling as she put her hand on his chest. Looking down, Gabby smiled because she really didn't feel worthy of Matt. "Baby, I am so happy that you talked to me." Gabby nodded as she looked up at me. She then smiled as she felt him bend down and kiss her softly this evening.
Putting his hand on Gabby's neck, Matt smirked as he took things nice and slow with the woman he love smore than anything in the entire world. "Gabby, I promise. I'm done at the CFD for the rest of my life. There's nowhere else I would rather be other than with the woman I love, anywhere in the world. I promise, this is forever; and Chicago doesn't even need to be where we live anymore. As long as I have you and our kids, then I am going to be a very happy man." Gabby smiled when she heard that, kissing Matt softly. "Listen, what do you say me and you just take it easy for the rest of the night? I have a feeling that I'm going to fall asleep early." Matt nodded when Gabby told him that. "Let's do it." Gabby smiled when she heard Matt say that, starting to kiss the man of her dreams as they took things nice and slow with each other for the rest of the night; which is exactly what they both wanted.
