Another time passed with making their way to Kristoff's friends. But during it Brooklyn began to feel shivery, his skin cold, even when wrapping his wings. They were near some steam vents when feeling it. Anna noted him shaking, holding his arms around himself.
"Hey, you alright?" She asked, since she too saw him get blasted. Brooklyn opened his eyes at her words. "F-fine. Just a little cold," he said, teeth chattering. But I shouldn't be. Could it be the reason for Elsa's magic hitting my heart? He asked himself, a bit scared at that. Kristoff saw their gargoyle companion shaking too, and stepped up.
"Come here, Brooklyn. The heat vents will warm you," he offered, taking Brooklyn toward one of them. Nervous but willing to do anything to be warm, Brooklyn held his hand out, gasping a little from the heat steam hitting his palms, making him close his eyes. It felt good and had him feel a little better. They kept up their pace then while Brooklyn sometimes halted near another vent to warm himself.
Kristoff now looked awkward as he cleared his throat. "Uh, listen. About my friends. Well, I say friends, they're more like family," he said. Brooklyn raised his brow. "How so?" He asked curiously, rubbing his hands and arms too to keep up the friction. "Well, it was just me and Sven until they, you know, took us in."
"They did?" Anna asked. Kristoff nodded. "Yeah. I don't want to scare you two but they can be a little inappropriate. And loud, very loud. They're also a little overbearing at times and heavy like really heavy. But you'll- they mean well—."
Brooklyn gave him an encouraging smile. "They sound cool, Kristoff. Don't worry," he said. "Like he said, they sound wonderful," Anna said. Kristoff cleared his throat. "Ok then. Meet my family." He introduced, showing his family of… rocks.
Anna, Brooklyn and Olaf both stared, dumbfounded. Brooklyn wasn't usually one to judge one's family but, this was unusual for him, taking a small step back, still shivery from cold. "They're… rocks." Anna stated the obvious while Kristoff spoke to them. Olaf kept staring. "He's crazy!" He whispered. Brooklyn cleared his throat awkwardly while Kristoff talked to a big rock.
"I'll distract him while you two run." Olaf said. "Hi, Sven's family! It's nice to meet you!" He greeted falsey, petting a rock. He glanced back at them. "Because I love you, Anna and you're like a brother, Brooklyn. I suggest you two run!" Anna and Brook both glanced at one another, brows raised. "I heard you both are love experts, whoo!" Olaf continued then saw they weren't running. "Why aren't you two running?" He cried.
Brooklyn coughed. "So, uh, Kristoff, your rock family is, uh, nice but well…"
"So yeah, we're gonna go," Anna finished, starting to step away with Brooklyn in tow. Kristoff held out his hand in protest. "Guys, wait!" He called. That was when the unusual happened; the rocks began to roll. Brooklyn yelped when a small one rolled between his legs.
"Ah! What the?!" Brook yelped, looking to see more gather around Kristoff, and then changed, into creatures with big grinning faces leaving him dumbstruck again.
"KRISTOFF'S HOME!" A female called out joyfully, the other creatures cheering and clamoring. Olaf bounced. "Kristoff's home! Wait… Kristoff?" He asked, one other creature nodding. From another glance, Brooklyn and Anna both saw they were out of all things; Trolls.
"They're Trolls!" Anna said, with a little smile. The entire group turned at her voice, some gasping at the sight of Brooklyn, who waved sheepishly, giving an awkward smile. "He's brought a girl!" The female troll cheered, the others leading Anna unwillingly towards Kristoff. Brooklyn protested as he too was pulled off his feet.
"Whoa, easy!" Brooklyn cried out. One troll smiled. "I remember you!" The troll said, tugging his tail. Brooklyn pulled his tail back. "Hands off! But, uh, have we met?"
"Yeah! You were unconscious! And with the King and Queen! I was just a small troll then!" The troll insisted. Brooklyn was even further mystified and puzzled, finding himself back on his feet again. He had so many questions. The female troll was looking over Anna. "Bright eyes! Working nose. Strong teeth! Yes yes! She'll do nicely for our Kristoff!" She proclaimed.
Brooklyn narrowed his eyes, not liking that these trolls were suggesting romance between her and Kristoff. "Hey, wait—," he protested. Kristoff and Anna both tried to explain too. "No, no. Wrong idea for why I came with my friends. It's our gargoyle friend we should talk about." Kristoff stated. Anna nodded. "Yeah. Kristoff and I aren't- are not…" she stuttered.
The female troll named Bulda just gave a smile, ignoring Brooklyn who had his arms crossed in annoyance. "What's the issue dear? Why are you holding back from such a man?" Bulda asked. Brooklyn didn't have time for this. His heart was freezing and he could very well die from it. But all these trolls want to talk about was dumb romance!
His ears fell then. I probably won't find another girl as special as Elsa. So far she had been the only one for me. But his thoughts were interrupted with the trolls singing, but he ignored it, walking away grumpily to himself and wait it out. He liked songs but this romance one got on his nerves, finding a spot near a heat vent to warm himself.
Stupid lovesick trolls… we're wasting time! Brook thought, his wings around his shoulders and tucking in his scarf while the trolls continued their partying, Anna and Kristoff looking embarrassed especially when they suddenly got dressed up by the trolls. The cold attacking him was making the red gargoyle grumpy.
But he had to admit Anna's was quite nice. That was until the same troll who first spoke to Brooklyn spotted him on the sidelines.
"Hey, join the party!" he invited, but Brooklyn shook his head. "Uh, no thank you." He muttered, but the troll just grinned; dragging Brooklyn unwillingly into their chorus number.
"We need each other
To raise us up and round us out!
Everyone's a bit of a fixer upper
But when push comes to shove…"
Olaf danced along too, even doing his own lyric. The troll that pulled Brooklyn in for some reason jumped onto Brook's back. The beaked male huffed out. "Ugh! Get off me!" He cried out, staggering.
Olaf:
"The only fixer upper fixer that can fix a fixer upper is…"
Trolls:
"True!
True!
True, true, true!
Love (True love!)
Love, love, love, love, love!
Love! (True love!)
T-rue…"
One other troll carrying a book came up to Kristoff and Anna, speaking like at a wedding. "Do you, Anna, take Kristoff to be your totally wedded—."
Anna jumped. "Wait, what?"
"You're getting married," the troll 'priest' stated bluntly. Brook saw red now, pushing the other troll off his back in anger.
"Hey, that's enough! Stop this now! Anna doesn't know Kristoff so well yet to just marr—." He suddenly cringed in pain from his chest, hair turning more blue and sank to his knees. He felt colder than he did before more than ever. Anna rushed to his side. "Brooklyn!" She caught his arm. Brooklyn gazed at her weakly.
Kristoff felt his forehead and it was too cold to touch with bare hands. "He's cold as ice!" He said in worry. A new troll then rolled up, revealing to be a more leader like one which relieved Brooklyn after all that harrassment from the others. He couldn't move much, shaking. "There's strange magic here," the leader troll murmured. "Grandpabbie," Kristoff greeted.
"Come, come. Bring him here to me," Grandpabbie urged. The two did. Brook shifted weakly nearer. Grandpabbie felt his chest. "Brooklyn, your life is in danger. There is ice in your heart put there by Anna's sister. If not removed to solid ice will you freeze forever…" he said solemnly.
This scared Brooklyn greatly, eyes round but weak. "N-no. T-that can't happen to me! I need to get back to my clan!" He begged, gazing at the dirt. Anna hugged him. "There must be some cure," she protested. Grandpabbie nodded. "Yes, but it isn't easy. Your friend needs an act of true love to thaw his frozen heart."
Brooklyn's beaked mouth fell. Like that would ever happen. He was as good as frozen. "B-but Grandpabbie, I-I also wish to know; do you have magic to get me back to Manhattan New York in the year 1997?" He asked, ears perked in hope. But Grandpabbie shook his head.
"I'm terribly sorry. But my magic's only good for visions and healing," he said. "But I know you'll find something," he apologized. This made Brooklyn sadder than ever. His remaining hope was dashed. He began to cry softly, Anna still hugging and saying gentle words, until his hair got even more blue. He collapsed more, feeling faint and dizzy from cold.
The trolls all looked worried. Kristoff helped Anna get Brooklyn up. "Come on. Your best chance now is at the castle to get warm," he said. Brook didn't respond, too tired to care about his own life now. Would his clan even miss him if he froze to death here and never came home?
His two friends helped Brooklyn onto Sven. Anna sat behind Brooklyn and Kristoff in front. They had to get him back quickly. "Come on, Olaf! We're getting Brooklyn to the castle!" Kristoff said. Olaf grinned again. "I'm comin'!" He jumped on Sven too. "Let's go to the castle! Where is the castle?"
