Without words said out loud, Carrie did what she did the last time. She hid everything! She hid all the items that she had bought from the store in her closet and also hid Rebecca under the bed. Then, Carrie quickly ran to hop onto the bed and pull out a book to read and make it as though she was reading throughout the day. Once the door burst open, Margaret dramatically entered, looking crazed, she could see that Carrie was on the bed reading her book and walked forward to the bed.
"Hi Carrie, what are you doing?",she asked her directly.
Carrie looked up at her face.
"Reading…", she answered without more than the one word.
Tense moments between the mother and the daughter were exchanged silently. That was when, all of a sudden, Margaret walked up closely to Carrie to reach out and pat her on the forehead.
"Good girl." ,she said.
She turned around and closed the door behind her.
.Carrie let out a sigh of relief knowing that she is going to have to do this without getting caught.
