The Caseys: Parenthood Begins - Short Story
Chapter Six
Family Flying In

An hour later, at Honolulu International Airport:
The flight was long. That was a fact. Yet, it was worth it; the length of the flight was worth it. The moment she learned that her sister-in-law was giving birth yesterday (which was something she should've been told sooner), she did exactly what she and her daughter both wanted to do. Christie Casey, as in Matt's sister, booked some tickets; as they weren't going to be waiting to do what they really want to do right now. They want to meet their new family as soon as possible, and that was what they were going to do. And while her daughter Violet originally protested leaving Chicago so early, she was okay when she learned it was so that she could meet her cousins Jacob and Matteo; so, they ended up doing exactly what she planned on doing whether her daughter was okay with it or not. And that was fly overnight from O'Hare to Honolulu via Los Angeles so that they could meet the twins as soon as possible. But there was something that was even better for the both of them.

And that was that she was able to sleep the entire flight to Hawaii, which she very much enjoyed; especially since it met that she was going to be able to go right to the hospital when she landed. But one thing that she didn't enjoy, was the man next to her passing gas as a way to wake her up; which then let to his fiancé slapping his chest (she heard them planning their wedding). "Will!" Turning her head, Christie Casey just looked at the couple. "I swear, I feel like an idiot for not flying first class now." Waking up, Violet looked at her mom. "You thought about flying first class. MOM!" Christie then turned to look at her daughter, not impressed. "I took you out of school, and flew you to Hawaii to meet your cousins and see your uncle Matt. I would be quiet Violet." Natalie laughed as she heard the mother say that. "God, I swear I can't wait to have kids." Turning her head, Christie smiled. "Believe me, blessing and a curse." Natalie agreed with the mother, smiling.

"So, what's the point of your trip? The trip that your daughter wanted to fly first class to." Christie laughed. "My brother just had twins yesterday, so we're going to meet them." Natalie agreed. "Funny enough, my friend just welcome twins here in Hawaii yesterday too. God, I've known him for ages; and I've known he's always wanted to be a dad, so I am so happy. I was thinking of trying to convince my fiancé here to let me go there before we go see his brother, the brother I know is going to try and convince us to move here." Will just looked at his fiancé. "Natalie, we have nothing in Chicago now. I mean, other than our jobs at the hospital." Christie then realized something. "Hold on second. Natalie, hospital, Chicago…Dr. Natalie Conte?" Natalie was confused when she heard the woman say that. "How do you know my maiden name?" Christie laughed. "I knew it was you. God, I'm so happy that you sat next to us. I just wish we spoke during the time here."

Natalie just looked at the woman, still confused. "How do I know you? Tell me, before I call the…" Christie just smiled. "Christie Casey, nice to see you again." Natalie then realized that. "Oh my god. Now I recognize you, you're Matt's sister. God, we haven't seen each other since…" Christie laughed. "Hallie's Bachelorette Party!" Natalie just smiled. "So, what brings you to Hawaii? Other than Matt being here?" Christie smiled. "Matt and Gabby just had their sons, Jacob and Matteo." Natalie smiled when she heard Christie say that. "Well, send them my congratulations; I just wish they weren't in the hospital; we were going to hopefully see them at some point." Christie smiled when she heard Natalie say that. "Well, I'm sure I could sneak you in. I need to go get the keys from my brother. I'm going to stay at his penthouse while he's in the hospital." Natalie laughed. "Then ride with us, Will's brother is picking us up at the hospital; we can take you there."

Christie then looked at Will. "Wait, is your brother Jay?" Will agreed. "Yes. And don't you dare start, I am not sure what I'm doing yet; Matt put the offer out to me already." Natalie looked at Will. "What offer?" Will sighed. "I haven't spoken to you about it, because I was going to wait until after the wedding; but I have a job offer at Casey from my brother. He wants me to come help him with something here." Natalie looked at Will. "Well, we will have to talk to him about it." Christie agreed. "Honestly, give him a chance; I plan on doing the same with my brother. He's been bugging me to invest some of my money in his company." Will laughed. "I had a feeling that was going to come up between you two at some point." Christie agreed with the doctor when he said that, before smiling as they both waited for the plane to land this morning. But little did Christie know was that there was another woman on the plane who was going to be joining her in her journey.

Someone that she hasn't seen in a couple years and had not expected to introduce to Violet this way.

The mother was thrilled over the fact that her son invited her to come meet their sons whenever she had a chance, and that he decided to pay a first class ticket right to Hawaii from Los Angeles. While she did have to pay for her flight from Phoenix to Los Angeles, she was glad that she got a chance to fly in First Class on UA 1158 from LAX to Honolulu. It was very comfortable, and she's ready to just take it easy with the rest of her stay; a stay that she hopes that she can extend for a while, as she doesn't really have anybody else to really be with in Chicago. That's when the mother saw a bag that she thought was hers. Going to grab it, she smiled as she went to check the tag; that's when she read the name of the bag. 'Christie Casey' And let's just say that the mother was a bit shocked, as she didn't see her daughter on the flight. She knew that her daughter inherited money, so she expected her to fly first class, not that she saw her there.

"Looks like I might as well hold onto this bag for her, she's going to want to see me at some point; heck, she must be coming to see Jacob and Matteo." That was when the mother heard a voice she recognized. "Hey, what the heck are you doing with my bag you old hag? Security! I have…." That's when the mother turned around to look at her daughter. "Now, is that any way to speak to your mother Christine?" Christie was shocked when she saw her mom there. "Mom?" Violet then looked up at her mother. "Wait, did you know that grandma was coming?" Nancy Mathies smiled when she heard Violet saw that. "How are you Violet?" Violet then smiled as she walked over to her grandmother, proceeding to hug her. "How are you doing sweetheart?" Violet smiled. "Really good. My mom let me leave school early." Christie then turned to look at her daughter. "That doesn't mean that I didn't work something out with your school. Why do you think I got you that laptop?"

That's when Will and Natalie proceeded to join Christie at the baggage claim. "Okay, so it seems like you were in a rush Christie? Is everything okay?" Turning to look at her brother's friend, Christie smiled. "Yeah, it's all good. Oh mom, this is Natalie Manning and Will Halstead. Natalie went to medical school with Hallie." Christie smiled. "Aloha." Natalie laughed as she heard Christie's mother say that. At the same time, Christie turned to look at her mother. "What are you doing here?" Nancy smiled when her daughter asked her that. "Matt sent me an e-mail, and then booked me a ticket to Hawaii. I know I have been out of touch for a while, but I was hoping to try and surprise him." Christie agreed with her mom, taking a breath before going to hug her. "God, I am so glad that you're okay. Me and Matt have been scared out of our minds, you lost touch with us and that was scary." Nancy agreed with her daughter when she said that, taking a breath before agreeing.

"I'm sorry. I've just…my boyfriend just died recently." Christie then looked at her mom. "Oh mom, I'm sorry." Nancy sighed as she looked at her daughter. "Listen, we can talk about this another time; I have another reason to be here, as I want to go to the hospital and see Matt. Then, I need to get to the hotel I booked." Christie laughed. "Let me just tell you this, Matt isn't going to have that; he's going to tell you to come with me, and stay in the penthouse he has." Will agreed with Christie when she said that. "Same place that we're going?" Christie agreed with Will. "Yeah. So, do you guys want to come with us to the hospital first? Maybe then you can say hi to Matt and Gabby." Will sighed. "We'll have to talk to my brother and see what he thinks." That's when they all heard a man walk up to them. "And why would you have to talk to me about it, and what I think?" Turning his head as he heard his brother, Will smiled. "Hey man." Jay then smiled as he walked up to Will.

"Aloha, welcome to Hawaii." Will smiled as he went to hug his brother. "God, I've missed you." Jay agreed with Will, before smiling as she went to whisper in his ear. "Uncle Will." Pulling away from his brother, Will was shocked. "Shut up! Alex isn't pregnant!"

Jay's POV:
As I heard Will tell me to shut up, I smiled as I looked at my brother before nodding; after which, I turned to see some people that I didn't recognize them standing with. "Hey, did you bring some friends with you guys?" Natalie then smiled when I asked them that. "No, but god you're pregnant Alex." Alex then smiled as she went to hug her (future) sister-in-law. "Yeah, with twins." Natalie then looked at her. "Congratulations!" I then heard some people speak to us. "Yeah, congratulations. Seems like my brother isn't the only one having twins this year." Turning to look at the woman, I smiled because I could see the resemblance. "Let me guess, you're Christie?" She was shocked when I said that. "How can you tell?" I snickered. "You look like Matt." Christie agreed with me as I said that, watching as I walked over. "Jay Halstead. I work for him at his company." Christie agreed, going to shake my hand. "Christie. This is my daughter Violet, and my mom Nancy."

I agreed with her, before going to shake her hand. "I'm glad that you could come, I think that your son would really benefit from having more biological family as he battles this journey he's on." Christie looked at me when I said that. "What health battle?" I then looked at Christie, having assumed that Matt must've told them; but I guess not. "Oh, uhm…I guess Matt didn't tell you?" That's when I heard Kelly make his way in. "Jay? What are you doing here?" Turning my head, I saw Kelly come in. "I could ask you the same thing." Kelly sighed. "Christie called me to give her a ride to the hospital." Kelly then smiled as he walked over to Christie. "How are you Christie?" Christie then proceeded to hug Kelly. "How are you brother?" Kelly laughed. "How are you Violet?" Violet smiled. "I'm good Kelly." Kelly then turned to look at the elder woman who was next to Christie. "Oh Kelly, this is my mom Nancy. Mom, this is Matt's best friend; the other one, not the one that died."

Kelly agreed with Christie when she said that. "Now, what's this about a health problem with my brother? He okay?" Kelly then turned to look at me. "You fool, he was going to his sister in person!" That's when Matt's mom snapped. "Okay, can someone please tell me what's going on with my son! If he's sick, then I need to know now." Kelly took a breath when he heard his mom say that, clearly able to see that she was worried. "Matt's been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder." Natalie turned to look at Kelly when he said that. "He has?" Kelly agreed. "Andy, Hallie, almost dying twice, Gabby almost dying, his father's abuse." Natalie just put her hand up when she heard Kelly say that. "Okay, I get why he said that." Kelly then laughed as he looked at Natalie before seeing that Max was here with me. "How are you Maxy?" I then looked at Kelly. "Don't you dare, he's on duty." Kelly put his hands up, agreeing with me. "What do you mean?"

Looking at Matt's niece, I could see that she was confused as I said that. "I have PTSD like your uncle, because I'm a war veteran…" Matt's mom smiled when I said that. "Thank you for your service Mr. Halstead." I laughed. "Please, call me Jay; I'm basically family now." Christie then turned to look at me, smirking. "I can see that, and I like me military men…" Alex then looked at Christie. "Excuse me? What are you doing? I'm standing right here." Kelly just shook his head and sighed. "Seriously, did you really have to do that Christie?" Christie just laughed. "So, what are we doing?" Nancy smiled. "I want to go see my son, daughter-in-law and grandsons!" Matt's niece agreed with her grandmother. "Me too. Can we go there first mom?" Christie laughed. "We have to, because we have to get keys." Kelly agreed with Christie. "Then let's get out of here so that we can go get those keys. Nancy, how about you give me those bags?" Nancy smiled, agreeing.

At the same time, she smiled at her daughter. "We have a lot of catching up to do before you leave." Christie agreed with her mom when she said that, before going ahead with walking away after grabbing all of their bags. "And we have to talk about how you just flirted with a married man, while he was standing next to his pregnant wife! Christie!" Christie got scared when she said that, before proceeding to walk away with Kelly, her mom and daughter. At the same time, I turned to look at Will and Natalie. "Well, welcome to Hawaii." Will and Natalie laughed as me and Alex said that, before smiling as they went to grab their bags. "You guys ready to get out of here? I'm dying to see where you guys live." I agreed with Natalie when she said that. "Alex, how about you go ahead with Natalie and bring her out to the car; take Max with you." Alex agreed, grabbing Max's leach from my wrist before she walked ahead with Natalie and Max this morning.

At the same time, I went to grab Natalie's bags and just picked them up; turning my head, I looked at my brother. "So, it seems like you have a secret admirer." I shook my head when I heard Will say that, as it definitely wasn't funny. "Not funny." Will agreed with me as I told him that, well aware that was the case. "Especially considering your wife is pregnant, and who your father-in-law is." I agreed with Will as he said that. "By the way, did he do what I said and tell you that he came in with chest pains last week?" I looked at Will when he said that. "He what?" Will nodded when I asked him that. "Seems like your father-in-law has a bit of explaining to do." I agreed with Will as he told me that. "And you should've called me." Will sighed. "Jay, you know that I can't because of HIPPA." I agreed with Will (again) because I knew that was the truth. "God, those pesky laws that we have to follow." Will laughed as I said that, agreeing with me as we left the airport.

Antonio was now back in his car, ready to drive his sister's in-laws (and niece) to the hospital this morning so that they can meet the newest members of their family; and the truth was, he was ready to do that as well. "Sorry that we decided to make this a family trip with my mother joining us." Nancy laughed as Antonio said that. "It's okay. By the way, pleasure to meet you…" Nancy's son's mother-in-law then smiled at her. "Camila. Camila Dawson." Turning his head to look at his mother, Antonio was a bit shocked that she was still going by Dawson. "I thought you reverted to your maiden name after you divorced?" Camila Dawson laughed as she heard her son say that. "I decided to keep the more Hispanic sounding name. Vergel sounds more German than Hispanic." Antonio thought about it, and agreed with his mother; that was, until he heard his sister's niece speak up. "So, have you seen the babies yet? Are they cute?" Antonio then looked at Christie, confused.

"I thought Matt sent you guys the pictures too? He sent them to the family chat group." Violet then went to grab her phone, wanting to check it; that's when she saw the pictures that her uncle sent. "Awe, they're adorable." Antonio agreed before looking at Matt's sister. "The one on the left Christie, he's our godson." Christie agreed with Antonio when he said that, smiling as she went to look at the picture. "Well, he sure does look like his father." Antonio agreed with Christie when she said that, smiling. "Matteo is the one that looks the most like our side of the family." Camila smiled as she heard her son say that name. "I still love how they decided to use the name Matteo." I agreed with my mom as she said that. "I think it was always the plan for the both of them to have one son with Anglican name, the other with a Hispanic name." Camila agreed with her son when he said that, smiling as he proceeded to drive them towards the hospital.

At the same time, Nancy spoke to Camila. "So, are you a first-time grandmother too Camila?" Antonio snickered. "Yeah, no way. I have a daughter named Eva who's starting University, and another one that's almost done high school; a son named Diego. God, the hormones are horrible." Violet smirked. "Have to say, that has to be my favorite part of datin…" She then realized what she was saying, which led to her mother to turn her head. "What's this about you dating already? I thought we agreed not this year after what that other guy did to you." Violet gulped. "What's this about…" Christie just looked at her daughter. "This conversation isn't over missy. We will have this conversation when we're at your uncle's place. Is that understood?" Violet agreed with her mother when she said that, well aware that was the case. "Don't tell dad." Antonio laughed. "Oh boy, just wait until your father finds out." Christie laughed, agreeing with the fellow new aunt/uncle.

"So, you guys haven't met the boys yet?" Antonio smiled. "My sister was pretty tired last night, so I didn't bother with it. But I will definitely be seeing them today." Christie agreed with Antonio when he said that, really ready to meet her brother's kids; and she can't wait to see him for the first time in a while.
