The Caseys: Parenthood Begins - Short Story
Chapter Eight
Will did the Right Thing

Casey Headquarters, Honolulu
Jay couldn't help but smile as he made sure to hold Max's leach tight this morning, along with Alex's hand in mine; and let's just say that I've been doing it a lot more lately, pretty much every since we learned that we were pregnant with our children. I just want to protect her and our kids, and Alex is more than happy to be holding my hand with our fingers intertwined. At the same time, Jay turned his head to look at his brother, who seemed quite impressed with the place where his brother and sister-in-law live. "Ok. This place is gorgeous, just what the hell is this place? And how much is your rent." Jay snickered a bit when he heard Will ask him that. "We actually don't pay rent because it's part of our contract." Will agreed with his brother as he said that. "And you're going to have to find your own place eventually, because it's only a three-bedroom place." Will was confused as he heard Jay say that. "You have three bedrooms? Why can't we stay for a bit if we get jobs here." Natalie turned to look at Will when he said that. "Seriously, you had to bring that up already?"

Jay laughed as he heard Natalie say that, well aware that she was not the happiest that her husband-to-be brought it up before he had a chance to bring it up. "Now, he's going to talk to us about it right away." However, Alex decided to save the day for her (future) sister-in-law. "How about we get in the elevator first? Then we can mention it on the way up." Will and Natalie agreed with Alex when she said that, proceeding to get into the elevator with the both of them; at the same time, Jay took out his key pass so that he could get them up to their home. Swiping the key card, Jay then went to push the button to their home. "Okay, you need a key card?" Turning his head to look at his brother when he asked him whether he needs a key card, Jay agreed and smiled at him. "Yes, so I'll have to ask security to make you one while you're living here. Actually, that reminds me." Letting go of Alex's hand, Jay took a breath. "Alex, can you take Max's leach?" Alex agreed.

"You want to write it down before you forget?" Jay agreed with his wife when she asked him if he wanted to write down the fact that he needs to talk to security about getting a key card for his brother, which will allow him in and out of his condo; even better, without him having to be with him if he ever wants to take Alex out on a date. Grabbing his iPhone, he opened it and then went to go open the notes app before typing it in. "Ask security to make keys for Will & Nat, Floor 22 only." Closing the app after writing it down, Jay was about to put it down when he saw his phone ring. Seeing that it was Hank, he sighed because he didn't want to have to deal with him. "My dad again?" Jay agreed with Alex when she asked him that, before going to put his phone in his pocket. "Yeah. I swear, we really need to figure out what we can say to him." Will looked at his brother when he heard him say that, wondering what's going on. "Everything okay between you and Hank?"

Jay sighed. "I'm not going to talk to him after what he told you and hid from us. I am just not ready to deal with it." Will sighed. "You mean abut the…" Alex then went to look at Will. "Spill Will." Jay then put his hand on Alex's back while kissing the side of her head. "Your dad went into the ER recently with some heart problems." Alex was shocked when she heard Jay say that. "Wait, what?" Alex then turned to look at Will and Natalie. "Wait, did you know?" Will just gulped and then tried to stay away from Alex. "You knew! And you didn't tell us! That's my dad!" Jay then looked at Alex. "Hey, take a breath. Alex, you're pregnant; remember that. Alex agreed with Jay when he said that, before looking at her husband. "Did you know?" Jay sighed as he looked at his wife. "Will just told me at the airport." Seeing that they were at their floor, Alex just went to walk out and then went to go to their room. "Max, go with Alex and make sure that she stays calm." Max agreed.

Running after Alex, Max went to make sure that Alex stays calm. At the same time, the other elevator riders stepped out of the elevator and into the Halstead condo this morning. At the same time, Jay turned to look at his brother and (future) sister-in-law. Just taking a breath, Jay went to go rub his head. "Listen, the spare bedroom is in the corner over there…." Jay said, pointing in the direction of the spare bedroom that Will and Natalie are going to be staying in. "Will, you help Natalie unpack. Sorry about this but…" Natalie then stepped close to her future brother-in-law. "Hey, I get why you need to go. You need to go be with Alex for the sake of your kids." Jay agreed with Natalie when she said that, glad that she understands where he's coming from. "Thanks Natalie, and welcome to Hawaii." Natalie agreed with Jay when he said that, watching as he walked away to go be with Alex. At the same time, Will proceeded to grab his fiancé's hand and intertwined their fingers.

"I did the wrong thing, didn't I?" Natalie took a breath when Will said that, not sure as they went to walk towards their room. "Will, I want to support you here…but it's hard, it's her dad." Will then looked at Natalie. "Can we talk about it in the bedroom where we're going to be staying. It's been on my mind since we got here and I told Jay, I just need to figure out if I made the right decision; because I feel like I did based on the scenario. Natalie agreed with her future husband when he said that, hoping that he has a good reason. "Let's hope you have a good reason, or else I may not be able to support you." Will agreed with Natalie when she said that, well aware that may very well be the case; but he does have a good reason.

He was standing in his new room for a while with his fiancé, who just so happens to also be a doctor; which is why he truly believes that she's going to understand the tricky situation that he finds himself in, because of the legal requirements that he has. It wasn't just oh, he heard it from somebody other doctor; he was Voight's doctor, and he told him not to tell Jay and Alex…and that he would tell them himself. So, he was bound by his patient's wishes. He gets that Natalie is going to think about it as a daughter, as someone who could've been in Alex's situation. Yet, at the same time, she has to understand his predicament. Does she really blame him for putting his medical license over telling his sister-in-law.

Will's POV:
As I watched Natalie turn around to face me as soon as she set her bags down on our bed, I took a breath while walking in carrying my bags. "So, you going to tell me your reason?" I just sighed when Natalie asked me that question, a bit surprised that she isn't taking my side; especially when she already knows the answer to the question that she's asking me. Carrying my bags over to the dresser that I was going to use while we're staying here, I went to go set them down since I was obviously going to have to spell it out to Natalie. "Will, I want to know your reason if I'm going to defend you to Alex." Turning around to face Natalie, I put my hands on her hips. "I'm happy to hear that you're considering defending me to Alex, because you're going to need to; and do I really need to point out the reason Natalie?" Natalie just looked at me with those eyes that told me that I did. Great, now I need to make her look stupid as she already knows the situation.

That was, after Natalie snapped. "Will, that's her dad." I agreed with her. "Yes, I knew that, which was why I took him as PATIENT." I made sure to emphasize the word 'patient' in my sentence to make sure that Natalie knew what law that brought up. "Natalie, you think I wanted to hide this from Alex? No, I wanted to call her to tell her; to let her know that her dad was okay. Natalie, my dad had a heart attack in the past; I know what it's like to lose a parent. You think I was okay with not telling my sister-in-law that her dad came in with heart problems?" Natalie took a breath when I said that, before going ahead with sitting down on the edge of the bed; and that prompted me to go sit down with her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell at you. I really didn't Nat." Natalie agreed with me when I said that. "Natalie, if I could have…I promise to you, that I would've told Alex the moment I learned what was going on; and I would've called her right away." Natalie agreed.

"But this was my career we're talking about. I already do enough as it is to risk it? I know, it's not the ideal situation for me to do the right thing; but I had no choice. Plus, it's Voight! We both know what Jay told us, he has bodies buried around Chicago! And he's gotten away with it! Why do you think I want to marry you here in Hawaii?" Natalie looked at me when I said that, before realizing what I just said. "Wait, what?" I smiled at her. "We're not just here for my brother's birthday. This Saturday, we're getting married on the beach." Natalie smiled as she heard me say that. "Wait, Maggie; my dress…" I smiled at her. "Maggie's coming, so are April and Ethan, along with Connor. We're getting married Saturday." Natalie smiled as I said that, putting her hand on my cheek before kissing me softly. She then took things nice and slow with me. "God, I love you." I agreed with Natalie then she told me that, before leaning my forehead against hers.

"I love you Natalie, and that's why you need to back me up with Alex. You're going to be my wife, and that means you need to take my side. You know that I did the right thing, right? I mean, I did do the right thing?"

Natalie's POV – Part One:
When Will asked me whether he did the right thing (in not telling Alex that her dad came in with heart problems), I agreed with him because I knew that he did do the right thing in a way. Sure, is it not the right thing to do based on the relationship that he has with his sister-in-law? Is it wrong to hide it from her as her brother-in-law? Of course. I would be mad too. But when he reminds me that it could make him loose his medical license, I understand why he did it; I have no choice but to understand why he did it. It was so that he could keep his job. "Will, of course I understand. I understand because it was to keep your job. And I can also see how much it hurts you to have not been able to tell them. I know you better than anyone, and I know that you would've wanted to tell them the truth." Will agreed with me when I said that, smiling as he kissed me softly. "But you needed to think about your career, and that would be breaching HIPPA." Will agreed with me, sighing.

"While I was making the decision, I was so torn. My head was telling me to keep it from Jay and Alex. But my heart was telling me that I needed to tell them. So, it felt hard. But he's no longer my patient, and I just thought I could do it since we were in person; that, and I thought that Hank would've told them by now. I told him that he needs to tell them, because if not that would screw me over. I told him that, but he didn't. I did everything right." I agreed with Will when he said that. "Yes, you did everything right Will." Will sighed when I said that. "I just hope that Alex can realize that."

While Will and Natalie were currently talking about what he did in the guest room, the other couple currently in the condo were currently in the midst of talking about it in the primary suite of their home; and let's just say that it's not going the easiest at the moment. Right now, Jay wants to be on Alex's side so bad as she's his wife; but he's also in complete agreement that his brother did the right thing, as he didn't want his brother to loose his job. With his loyalties currently torn, he just hopes that he can talk to his wife and make her see where he's coming from. And he hopes that him being shirtless helps. So, he decided to close the door to their room and take off his shirt. After which, he went ahead and made his way to the washroom where Alex was currently in the midst of getting changed into her comfy clothes right now. Walking in after seeing her starting to get comfortable, Jay smirked as he wanted to turn her on a bit.

Just walking up behind Alex, Jay smiled as he put his hands on her stomach shortly after wrapping his arms around her; at the same time, Alex looked up at her husband in the mirror. Seeing him shirtless, Alex took a breath because she knew that was something that she couldn't rest; and that was something that Jay knew too. "God, you really know what to do so that you can make sure that you get a kiss from me." Jay smiled when he heard Alex tell him that. "Alex, you need to forgive Will." Turning around to look at her husband, Alex was shocked…especially since she thought that he'd be on her side. "You're on his side in this matter?" Jay took a breath when he heard Alex ask him if he was on his side. "No, I'm on your side. I'm your husband." Bringing Alex against his chest, he stared into her eyes. "But that doesn't mean that my loyalty to my brother goes to the wayside. I love my brother, and I had to hear him out. And I did hear him out, and he explained it."

Alex shook her head when she heard Jay say that, before pushing him away to go walk away; however, Jay didn't want that and grabbed her hand to stop her from leaving him. "Hey, no. Stay." Alex turned to face her husband when he said that, before proceeding to get close to him once again. "What do you say we go sit down in bed? I'm a bit tired after that." Jay agreed with Alex when she said that. "Let me just tell Will and Natalie that you need to take a nap okay? Then, we can take some time together? How does that sound? We can rest and talk about it, plus they probably need to rest too." Alex agreed with me when I said that. "I'll wait for you to get me undressed." Jay agreed with Alex when she said that, before watching as she went to walk away. However, that was not what he wanted. "Hey, come here first." Alex then turned to look at the man she loves. Stepping close to Jay, Alex smirked as she proceeded to wrap her arms around his neck this morning.

After which, Jay put his hands on her back and then kissed her softly. "I'll be back soon okay? We'll talk about this when I get back, and we'll come to an understanding as to how this is okay? Please, just hear me out."

Alex's POV:
I could tell that Jay was worried that I wouldn't hear him out, that I would hold what he's saying to me against him; but I won't. I'm going to hear him out, and I'm going to make sure that he knows that I love him. Running my hands down his arms this morning, I smiled as I leaned in and kissed him softly. "Tell Will and Natalie to just take it easy for a bit. I want to take some time with you. Say that we had a disagreement over that, and I just need time to calm down. I think it's got the kids moving a bit too much." Jay got worried as I told him that. "Hey, then we're just going to sit in here for a bit. Please, just go sit down babe and take it easy." I agreed with Jay when he told me that before watching as he went to grab his shirt from the counter once again. After which, he put it on and just smiled as he walked up to me. Wrapping his arms around me once again, Jay smiled as he leaned in and kissed me softly. "You, bed; I will talk to my brother and then be right back."

I agreed with Jay when he told me that, smiling as I went ahead and leaned up to kiss him softly; after which, I walked away to go lay down in bed. At the same time, Jay squeezed my ass (which made me jump). "JAY!" Jay laughed as I said that, before going ahead with walking out of our room so that he can go talk to his brother quickly.

It didn't take the future father long to make his way to his brother's room this morning, going ahead with knocking on the door as he watched Will and Natalie unpack; turning their heads as they heard Jay, Will and Natalie smiled. "Hey." Jay smiled. "I got you guys some more pillows, I know that you guys need more than this; Alex just took some more for her back." Natalie agreed with Jay when he said that. "Yeah, that makes sense." Jay sighed. "Listen, I thought I'd let you know that me and Alex are going to relax in our room. This stress is making Alex tired, she needs a nap." Will laughed. "Sure." However, Natalie understood. "Will. And we get it Jay, you must want to talk too." Jay took a breath when he heard Natalie say that. "I'm going to try and get her to understand why you couldn't tell her Will." Will sighed when Jay said that. "I hate to put you in this position." Jay shook his head. "No, I understand your situation. And we're going to do it."

Natalie agreed with Jay when he said that, before smiling at the future father. "You're going to be such a great dad Jay." Jay snickered when he heard Natalie say that. "Thanks Natalie, I really hope so. But listen, I really do want to spend some time with you; but I'm exhausted. Alex didn't sleep the best last night, because the twins are just moving so much now a days; and I just want her to take it easy. I know you guys were coming here but…." Natalie then looked at Jay. "Hey, you guys need to do what you need to do to make sure that Alex and the twins are okay?" Jay smiled. "Thanks Natalie. Now listen, the beach is that way…" Jay said, pointing towards the beach. "…and there's a bus stop just by the front door that will take you right to the beach if you want to take it. If not, just use your phone and type in beach." Will laughed, agreeing with his brother.

"Just take it easy Jay, and make sure that Alex's okay." Jay agreed with Will when he said that, before going to shake his hand. "Thanks man, and welcome to Hawaii." Will smiled, agreeing with Jay as he said that, before watching as he walked away so that he can go talk to Alex for a while; meanwhile, Natalie turned to look at her future husband.

Natalie's POV – Part Two:
"I really hope that we didn't cause trouble between those two." Will looked up at me as I said that. "Hey, there's no we in the matter. I'm the one that caused the trouble and problems here, not you Natalie." I looked at Will when he said that, before nodding. "I could've called too." Will shook his head when I said that, before walking around our bed so that he can get close to me. He then put his hands on my hips and brought me close to his chest. "Then you would've broken HIPPA." I thought about it, before agreeing with Will as he said that. "Listen, let's get unpacked and then we can explore." Will agreed with me when I said that, before just going ahead with starting to unpack all of our things.

Hey Readers:
What are you guys thinking of the story so far? I'd love to hear from you guys in the comments. Now, I really hope that you guys are okay with me switching back and forth every couple chapters from couple to couple; but it's just what I've decided to do when it comes to how I write this story. Now, for those who are interested the business part of this story; I promise that it will return in the future, but I am not sure when that's going to happen. For now, I have these ideas that I'm going to follow, and I really hope that you guys like them. But for now, I am just going to concentrate on this storyline that I have for you guys; more specifically, the conversation that I'm going to write between Matt and Gabby. Thanks again for reading.
