(Jane & Maura & Cameron Davies)
Jane Rizzoli had spent a pleasant evening in the company of Cameron Davies, the FBI agent who had asked her to join him at Quantico. He had invited her to dinner at a fancy restaurant and they had discussed their respective businesses, their passions and their projects. Jane thought he was nice but she knew deep down that she didn't want to be involved in a romantic relationship with him. She had too much unfinished business in her life and too many feelings for another person. She couldn't leave with him and leave him hoping for more.
So she decided to set things straight at the end of the meal. She thanked him warmly for the invitation and told him that she had had a good time then she added, looking him in the eyes:
« Cameron, I'm flattered that you're interested in me and that you considered me for this job at the FBI Academy but I have to be honest with you. I don't want to go to Quantico. I don't want to leave Boston, or my job, or my friends, and I don't want to make you believe that I feel something for you when I don't. »
Cameron Davies was surprised and Jane continued:
« I'm in love with someone, someone I've known for a long time and who means a lot to me.
May I know who this so lucky person is?
This is Maura, my best friend. I've been in love with her for years, but I never dared to tell her. I don't even know if she shares my feelings but I know I can't give up on her without trying.
Maura Isles? The forensic pathologist you work with? But she is... she is... »
Jane defensively said
« What is she?
She's... different from you. It has nothing to do with your world. And she's a woman...
So what ? That's precisely what I like about her. Its difference, its singularity, its beauty. She and I may not be from the same world but I love her, I love her as a best friend and I love her with love, she is part of my heart. I hope she loves me the same way, that she shares my feelings »
Cameron sighs and says
« I see...I thought we had a chance together. I thought we looked alike.
We resemble each other on certain professional points, but not on the sentimental level. You will quickly find someone who is similar to you both emotionally and professionally, but I am not that person. »
Cameron stood up and said
« Okay, I respect your choice, Jane. But I warn you, you will realize that you are making a mistake by missing your chance with me, the job I offered you was the chance of your life. »
Jane stood up and said
« Maybe, but it's my life and it's my decision. Thanks again for this evening, Cameron. Bye. »
She held out her hand and Cameron shook it briefly and before leaving he said:
« If things don't work out between you two, you can always call me. »
Then he left the restaurant without looking back and Jane watched him leave without regrets and she left in turn and went to Maura's house to confess everything to her and hoped that Maura shared her feelings
Jane felt a weight lifted, but she was anxious because she feared Maura's reaction. She arrived at Maura's front door and gathered up her courage and rang the bell. Maura opened it with a beaming smile.
« Jane! What are you doing here ? I thought you were having dinner with Agent Davies? Come in, please.
Thank you Maura »
Jane entered and the two women went into the living room and once seated on the sofa, Jane said:
« Yes, I had dinner with Cameron but… I… I have something to tell you.
What ?
It's... it's hard to say... but I can't keep it to myself anymore.
Jane, you scare me. What is happening ? »
Jane took Maura's hands in hers and said
« Maura, I...I love you!" I love you, not as a best friend but I love you as one woman can love another. I have never loved someone as much as you. My love for you is stronger, much stronger than the one I had for Casey...For all these years...I didn't want to accept it but now I opened my eyes and I love you Maura! »
Maura was speechless. She looked Jane in the eye and saw the sincerity in her words then Jane looked at Maura and said with fear in her voice.
« Maura, please answer me. Don't…don't reject me »
Maura realized that she too had loved Jane for a long time, that she had never dared to admit it to herself. Maura looked at Jane, smiled, felt her heart beat faster then she threw herself into her arms and kissed her passionately.
« Jane, I love you too. I love you so much. Since a long time »
The two women hugged each other tenderly and kissed again then they went to Maura's room where they spent the night kissing, cuddling, making love then when morning came, Maura woke up and saw Jane lying naked against her. Jane, feeling a slight movement, hugged Maura a little tighter, an instinctive gesture of protection and affection which made Maura smile, who said to herself that she finally had the right to happiness and love and that this happiness and this love had as first and last name Jane Clémentine Rizzoli!
