What's going on, guys! I humbly apologized for the delays since last few weekends because I'm having another serious deadline until I finally figured it out how to get things going. From now on, I'll have to shape it up and I cannot do less than one or two chapter in each months. Right now, this chapter will be featured where it based off from a friend of mine. Thank you for your patience and enjoy reading! Here we go!
Amphibia: Adventure in Wartwood
Boy Story
Two days earlier…again…
One day, in the deep of the forest that was far, far away from the Frog Valley with some birds chattering, bugs were buzzing, and bushes were shaking until there was a young frog, Sparky Smith, a ten year old boy that has pine green skin that has very light blonde short hair, wearing his 30's style outfit. He wears brown newsboy cap, light tan buttoned up rolled sleeves shirt with brown overall, and dark brown pants.
He went out strolling to the woods to find some creatures that he has ever captured and show this to his family. Well, apparently they don't like the ideas for bringing any creatures that are dangerous like the beetle or praying mantis. But this time it will be different. As Sparky hops along through the forest, he went on top of the mushroom and search for any creature, but no sign of it.
"Hmm... there's no sign of this creature. Maybe if I could keep searching."
He jumps off the mushroom to search for more, but suddenly he heard a thud when bush was shaking.
"Huh?"
Spark turns around and looked at the bush that's been shaking. Thinking that this could be the creature that he was looking for.
"Hello?"
The bush stop shaking. He looked cautious as he thought that the creature could be dangerous as his father told him not to bring one. So, instead he just take his foot step closer to the bush until he goes through the wood, but then what's shocking him that this is no ordinary creature. The creature that turned out to be Ivan, who's been startled when he lets out a yelp a bit.
"AH!"
"Whoa, whoa, it's okay! I'm not going to hurt you." Spark raises his hands up when trying to calm down.
Ivan looked scared when crossing his arms around his knees with his backpack on his back. As Sparky took his step closer, he started to look fascinated around him. He doesn't even know what kind of being this is.
"Wow, I never seen a creature like you before, who and what are you?" Sparky asked.
Ivan spoke nothing since then, however he looked a bit shocking that this boy can talk as a frog.
"D-did you just talk?" Ivan asked.
"Woah. You understand me? Sparky blinked his eyes.
Ivan nervously nodded.
"Cool! I didn't know that you can talk. That's amazing!" Sparky smiles.
"R-really?"
"Yeah! Oh, man! I can't believe that I have discovered this talking creature in the forest! I gotta show this to them!" He happily lifts Ivan up by grabbing his hand as the teen startled.
"Hey, where you're taking me you little frog?" Ivan asked.
"Name's Sparky, and I'm taking you to a place. Man, the guys back home are going to be so surprise of a discovering I found." replied Sparky.
"Sparky, huh? That's a nice name."
"Oh, thanks."
"N-no problem." Then Ivan realized something when they are walking. "Hey, um, Sparky? How far is this place?"
"Not too far, but we better watch out for any creatures like beetle or praying mantis. Even the giant snake that I caught." replied Sparky.
"Wait, did you say s-snake?!"
"Yeah, it was pretty scary, but I let go before dad founds out. I'm lucky that I didn't get myself into trouble."
"Oh, boy." He mumbled, praying that his friends will be okay as long as they're safe. He wonders. "I just hope that they're okay."
Meanwhile, somewhere in a village next to the mountains that is not far from Wartwood or maybe some other village next to a large crack canyon on the lower part of Amphibia. Then, there was a house that was made of tree stump with stones that has two floors with some windows and a door, and then there was a huge log that has a garage with lots of tools and supplies.
As of cue, Ivan and Sparky has made it back home from the forest since the boy is dragging the teen out for safety and brought him home where he lives. They approached at the front porch when Ivan looked awed at this scenery. He has never seen such house that was made of stone and tree stump with a logo "S" with tools on it like a symbol.
"Here we are. Welcome to Casa de Smith!" said Sparky.
"Wow man, this is your house? " Ivan asked.
"Yeah. Me and my family lives here and speaking of family, here it comes."
Just then, a newt girl came out from the garage named Vanessa Smith, who is only 15 years old with purple skin, black greyish bushy hair that's been tied up with ponytail, wearing her light tan, overall blue pants with a symbol "S" in the center of her pocket, and her brown shoes. Vanessa was carry a box of supplies when she sees Sparky brings an unexpected creature.
"Hey, Vanessa! Look what I found in the woods!" Sparky smiles.
But when she looked at Ivan who nervously waves, she just gasp when dropping a box of supplies.
"Uh...Hi."
"AAAHHHH!" Vanessa screams before she picked up the fire extinguisher and then aims at Ivan when frightfully react this way. "Back off, demon!"
"Wait, Vanessa! This "thing" is harmless! HARMLESS!" Sparky yells when trying to convince her.
"Oh yeah! Like the last one you brought that was about to eat me in my room!"
"Look, I'm sorry about the last one. But I'm telling you, this "thing" is harmless!"
"VANESSA! SPARKY! THAT'S ENOUGH!"
Vanessa and Sparky turn their heads at the big toad named John Silver Smith, a blacksmith that has muscled with scars on his right arm, wearing his dark grey tank top under with light brown apron with the "S" symbol in the center with patches on the left, brown chestnut pants, and mud oak black boots. He also has a tattoo of the "S" symbol on his left arm.
Ivan could tell that this must be the father of the family, but the question is how Sparky and Vanessa are adopted? Right now, Silver stomp toward the kids, looking mad and want an explanation from Sparky of what this "thing" he brought. He looks a bit nervous and sad in front of amphibians while rubbing his arm.
"Sparky, who or what is this you brought this time?!" John Silver demands it.
"Heh-heh, hey Silver, guess what I found in the woods?" Sparky nervously presenting Ivan to him.
"Boy, how many times I have to tell you, stop bringing wild creatures in our house!"
"Okay, most creature brought were pretty "dangerous", but this one is strange and unusual like it was not from this world, plus it was all alone."
Silver and Vanessa looks up at Ivan that looked sad, showing them his pleaded look.
"It's true, sir. I never attempted to harm anyone. I just need to seek shelter and look for help." said Ivan.
"How do I know that you're not lying? And also, you talk?" John Silver raises his eyebrows.
"Please sir, I need a place to stay, I'll do anything!"
"Anything?"
"Yes. Anything."
John Silver started to think twice before he decides. If Ivan was telling the truth, then why didn't he attack him like any other creatures. And so, he exhaled his breathe that he made his choice.
"Stay tonight, tomorrow we will see."
"Really?" Ivan blinked his eyes.
"So he can stay? YES!" Sparky cheers.
"But if that "thing" gets into my room like the last one, I'm using the extinguisher." Vanessa warned him.
"Fair enough." said Ivan.
"If you wish to stay, I'll give you one condition. You don't touch anything in my workshop. If you touched with something, you're outta here. Got it?" John Silver warns him.
"Got it. Thank you, sir." Ivan smiles.
"Yeah, don't mention it. Sparky will show you a place to stay, up in the attic. Until it's dinner, we're having soup, and then it's bedtime. So don't even think about touching my stuff while we're sleeping."
"Yes, sir."
"Come on, I'll give you a place to stay." said Sparky before taking the teen's hand and dragged him inside to give him a tour around the house.
Vanessa and Silver were crossing their arms, thinking that either it's a good idea or bad idea.
"This is probably a bad idea." said Vanessa.
"We're doomed." John Silver mumbled.
Back at the Smith's household, the day was finally ending as the sun was starting to set over the horizon. It was right way after the tour around the house and then after dinner, Silver sends Ivan to the Attic so he can stay for one night. When Ivan went up there with his backpack by opening the hatch door, he sees the attic that has bed next to a shelf and a rag that's covering the portrait.
He was staring at the window that were round in circle. It may be a little dusty, but at least this would be perfect. Way better than sleeping outside in the forest. Then Sparky hops up and wanted to see him how he was doing. He still wants to know who he is and what he is?
"Hey creature, I just wanted to know how you like your new home." said Sparky.
"It's a bit dusty, but at least is better living here than what's out there. Thank you." replied Ivan.
"No problem, and speaking of which, I never answer my question. Who and what are you?" Sparky asked.
"My name is Ivan, Ivan Monroad and I'm a human being from another world." Ivan offers his hand to him.
Sparky accepted the offer by shaking his hand, despite that his hand was all slimy or mucus for short. Ivan doesn't mind when touching frog's skin.
"Well Ivan, I notice that one of shoes are broken." Sparky noticed that Ivan's only shoe was ripped. "Don't worry, I'll fixed it."
He ran downstairs to get something from his room and then came back up here just to fix Ivan's shoe by duct taping it. Then Ivan lift his foot up so that Sparky can duct taping around his shoe until he's done and ripped it off.
"Here you go, nothing a little duct tape will fix." said Sparky.
"Aw thanks, Sparky. I really appreciated." Ivan flattered.
"No problem, that's what us Smiths do. We fix stuff." replied Sparky.
"Smiths? You fix stuff?" Ivan asked.
"Uh huh. We've been helping some good folks out there by building and fixing it. Forging weapons and tools, making woodcraft like boxes and wardrobes, even repairing for the plumber." Sparky explains.
"Huh, that's nice. How long have you been here?"
"You know my sister, Vanessa. Well, adopted actually. We've been living here with Silver for years since he took us in and then later adopted us."
Ivan dropped his smile that Sparky ever mentioned it. He could see why that Spark was a frog, then Vanessa was newt that was his adopted sister, and John Silver, the toad who took them in and adopted them when he's like a father to them. He remembers when his old friend from school was once an orphan.
"You're an orphan, aren't you?" Ivan asked softly.
"Well, I was...since I lost my parents." replied Sparky softly while rubbing his arms. "So was Vanessa's parents."
"Oh, I'm so sorry."
"It's okay. You didn't know that. Silver treated us like his kids. He's a good toad. When we grow up, he taught us how to be a blacksmith. He taught Vanessa first, and then he taught me by the time I grow up and one day, I wanna be stronger like him."
"Wow, that's very deep. Do you think that I can help out?"
"Hmm..." His thoughts were interrupted when Silver hollers him.
"Boy! It's time for bed!"
"Coming!" Sparky hollers back before he turn his head back at Ivan. "So, we'll talk later."
"Okay, thanks for letting me stay with you, dude." Ivan thanked him.
"Anytime, buddy. Anytime." Sparky slowly closes the hatches on his exit.
Ivan set his backpack down, took his shoes off, and lied down on his bed. He shifted himself to make himself more comfortable like from home before he took his broken glasses off and set them on the shelve. He's been thinking if he could stay in this house as long as they can help him to find his friends and they'll figured out how to get back home. He yawns and he slowly drifted to sleep.
The next morning, Ivan woke up in the morning just to look around the house. He was told not to roam around on his own without supervised or being told what to do, but he couldn't help wondering around the house to see if anyone is here. He thinks that they went out for breakfast while leaving him behind. Then Ivan was roaming around at the Smith's Workshop and notice something broken on the working table.
He went to take a closer look to see that it was indeed a broken box that has some gold marbles and dark brown wood with red gems and a lock in the center. There was a decorative when there were five stars and a scary looking frog. Two sides that has amphibian's foot as a symbol. He is rubbing his chin, thinking that it needs to be fixed. But the only problem is that only Silver can fix the box. What would he say if he touches it? Will he throw him out like an animal?
With no other option, he looked at the screw driver with some tools and picks it up. He started to screw some nails back in by fixing the box and it took some time to fix quickly before the Smiths returns from breakfast. The least he can do is repair the box like from home just as his eyes flashes orange while fixing it. Once he was done, the box was all fixed. He smiled for that moment, but until he heard a yell from Silver.
"HEY! WHAT YOU'RE DOING IN MY SHOP?!"
Ivan was startled and turns around, but shocked to see that Silver just came back home while stomping towards him with Sparky and Vanessa behind. He quickly hide the screwdriver behind his back, seeing the toad crosses his arms. Vanessa looks pretty mad at him with her hands in her pocket. Sparky looks concerned like what was going to happen. Guess Ivan predicted too soon before he start stammering.
"Uh, Silver! Hi, look, I can explain! I-"
"Yeah, like I was going a to let a wild creature run all over my house, my shop, and messing with my stuff! THAT'S IT! I'M THROWING YOU OUT!" John Silver yells.
"W-Wait! Silver, please!
"OUT!"
"Wait a minute, guys! Look!" Sparky noticed when pointing his finger.
Silver and Vanessa drop their glares and looked a bit shocked that the box has been fixed. Then they shift their eyes at Ivan with sweat coming out from his head. Sparky looked surprised that the box has been fixed.
"Ivan, did you made that?" Sparky asked.
He wanted to explain this to them, but if he did tell them, then Silver will throw him out. Ivan closes his eyes to be prepared for the worst, but instead he heard a footstep when Silver takes a closer look by picking up the box. He opens and closes repeatedly, just the way it looks all fixed. Silver looked even more surprises that no other creature would ever fix this. He took his glance at Ivan as eyes were open.
"Hold on, you made this, boy?" Silver asked very calmly.
"Yes, I did, okay. I was roaming around, but I just wanted to know what you guys do here and I saw this in pieces. So, I decided assemble it together." Ivan explained, but looked sad a bit.
"Amazing. You pick the right hinges, the lock is set up in position, and you used right type of glue to hold it in one piece. I didn't know a creature like you can make this." Silver looked amazed a bit.
"Well, back in my world, I used to draw a lot and create some handcraft scale models like vehicles and other things out of materials. I was very creative." said Ivan.
"See? I told you he was harmless." Sparky smiles.
"Don't go overboard, squirt." said Vanessa.
He started to think twice after carefully consideration that he owes him apology by lashing out at Ivan. He didn't know that this kid would capable of fixing it. But then, his idea just popped up. Silver decided to have Ivan as a new member of the team. He will teach him the art of a blacksmith by forging, fixing, building, and creating some stuff. He shifted into smile after setting the box down to his desk.
"You know what, maybe I'm not going to throw you out after all. You got talent, kid and I might teach you a thing or two of how you will become one of us. But you're not going without an apron and gears, so here." Silver went to fetch an apron and some gears.
Ivan perks up and went awestruck that he couldn't believe that Silver is letting him stay. Sparky looked so happy that Ivan is staying with them. Vanessa was even more stunned and loss for a word. Then Silver offers Ivan an apron and two gears, he gently takes it and looked at it smiling.
So, he first put on an apron, the same one like Silver is wearing, then he take the goggles and put it on his around his head, and then put two of his tools on the belt. Ivan looks at himself, wearing his new outfit over his school outfit.
"Aw, you really mean it, does this mean I can stay?!" He asked smiling before Silver nodded. "Aw, thank you, thank you!"
"I see some great potential in you, boy. Some great potential." Silver chuckled.
"YES! HE'S NOW ONE OF US!" Sparky cheers.
"Well, as long he doesn't go to my room, I'm cool." said Vanessa when crossing her arms like she wasn't amused.
"Now, before we get started, I have few questions for you. So, Ivan. Sparky told me that you are from another world. So, how did you came to this world?" Silver asked when crossing his arms. Ivan haven't thought about it just as he remembers.
"Well... it wasn't just me I cannot explain what really happened, but one of my friend, Anne had this strange looking music box and once she opened it, I woke up alone in this weird place." Ivan explained.
"Music box?" Vanessa repeated.
"Yeah it's…" Ivan paused and picks up a little chest box when he shows to them, but they have no idea what the music box looks like. "It kind of almost looks like this, but the design it's different and it had gemstones on it and a key on one side."
"Wow, incredible. Did you have it with you, that magic music box?" Sparky asked.
"No, I don't. Probably still with my friend while I got transported here. I don't know where to find her or the others or how I can even go home?" Ivan frowned.
"Well, we Smiths travel to get some supplies we need for our shop. Maybe we'll find some answers along with the journey. Until the mountain pass clears up in a couple of months, you'll be living here with us." Smith explains as Ivan set the small box down and sat down on the stool in sulked.
"Oh great, just great." Ivan muttered.
"Don't worry, Ivan. We will help you find a way to get you back home and find more of your kind." said Sparky, trying to him up.
"We will?" Vanessa puzzled.
"Yes, we will." He replied.
"Really?" Ivan perks up.
"Yeah, we can help each other out. Right, Silver?" Sparky smiles, expecting for the blacksmith toad to approved the idea.
"Hmm…" Silver started to think about helping this boy.
Vanessa crosses her arms, believing that it would be a bad idea. But Sparky wanted to help Ivan to find his other friends. Ivan looked nervous if Silver would accept or not. That's when his mind has been made.
"Well, Ivan. I guess we can help you find what you're looking for." said Silver.
"Really?" Ivan asked, but his words were cut shortly.
"If! If you want to stay here, you have to be toughen up. You go to bed like a blacksmith. You eat breakfast like a blacksmith. You brush your teeth like a blacksmith. I can teach you what's like to be a blacksmith. We build it, we fixed it, and we sell it." said Silver, instructed him.
"With your skills, we can use a little hand." Sparky added.
"So, what do you say, kid. Do we have deal?"
Ivan looked at Sparky who was smiling while he was nodded, then he took glances at Vanessa, shaking her head. Ivan haven't thought about being a blacksmith. He used to help his family by running his dad's business by repairing or selling. When he looked at Silver, he smiled and accepted the offer.
"Deal." Ivan shook his hands with Silver. "So, where do we start?"
And so, it has started. His first task was to pick up the metal bar by using the stan broil while Sparky, Vanessa, and Silver were just stood and watch when training him to became a blacksmith. Once Ivan carefully placed the metal bar in the furnace, all he has to do is wait until it's getting warmer.
"So, how long it'll take?" Ivan asked.
"It should be like a few seconds." Silver answered as soon as Ivan pulled out the metal, but it was already caught on fire. "FIRE!"
"G'AH! WHAT DO I DO?" Ivan panicked.
"You left it too long!" Silver answered. "Quick! Get the fire extinguisher!"
Vanessa grabbed the fire extinguisher and hose it towards the metal bar. Once the fire is out, but what she didn't noticed that Ivan was covered with foam on his head. He blinked his eyes twice, making her snickered a bit when holding her laugh.
Later on, Ivan carefully set the metal bar into water, with a hiss sound when letting warm steam. It causes his glasses to be fogged up a bit before he wiped his glasses with his shirt. Silver nodded while crossing his arms.
Up next is when Silver presented a sword to Ivan and instructed him to forged a weapon by hammering it, but carefully. Ivan tries to forged his first weapon as best as he could, but it didn't go so well when he accidentally break the sword by hammering it too hard. He was shocked.
"Oh, my gosh! I'm so sorry, sir! I didn't mean to destroy this sword that looked more than a hundred years old!" Ivan looked panicked, fearing that Silver would throw him out. Instead, all he could hear was chuckled.
"(chuckled) Sorry? You don't have to say sorry, kiddo. A mistake like this already makes you a smith." Silver smiled.
"Yeah, it wasn't easy for me either. I basically melted a hammer once." said Sparky when he remembered.
"And I got to pay for that." Vanessa added.
"No one said being a smith is easy. It takes times of practice and in the way, you'll make a lot of mistakes. But if you try again, and again, and again, you'll get better in no time." Silver explains.
"You…you really mean that?" Ivan raised his eyebrows.
"Of course! And between us…" Silver wrapped his arm around Ivan's shoulder "I also break some creations before it's a rookie mistake. We all make them from time to time."
"Thanks, Silver. So, may I call you Sil?" Ivan asked.
"No, you may not. Just keep practicing and you'll get better."
Ivan resume his practice when Spark teaches Ivan to tighten up the bolt with a wrench, but Sparky tries to tell him to take it easy.
"Easy does it. Don't strain yourself." said Sparky.
"(grunts) How tight is it?" Ivan grunted.
"A little warmer aaaaaand… stop!" Sparky instructed him when Ivan stopped and sighed with relief.
Then Vanessa teaches Ivan of how to weld on metal bars by using the blowtorch while wearing his goggles to protect his eyes from getting to bright. She doesn't seem to be trusted with him at first, but she seems to be impressed when watches him doing the blowtorches.
"Not bad, kid." said Vanessa.
And now its Silver's turn to teach him of how to forge metal by using this kind of tool and hammered it. Ivan is getting used to forged like how his own kind used built back from the old age. Silver looked at him smiling that Ivan is getting used to forging.
"Atta boy, kid. Just slow and steady." Silver reminded him. And together, the whole gang is forging the metal bar with Ivan. They work together as a team.
Later that evening, they have finished their work after closing up for a day. They've already had dinner and washed up before they went to bed. Up in the attic, Ivan is showing some of his stuff to Sparky including his phone, a notebook, pens and pencil, even his own toy car he brought from home.
"That's all I have when I attended school. I have to do some school works and also doing tests." said Ivan.
"Man, I wish I could go to school." replied Sparky, but he looked down and picked up a toy car. "Wow! What is that?"
"That is called a car." replied Ivan.
"Cool! What's a car?" Sparky asked.
"From my world, is where people drives on the road. My dad used to work on his cars from his workshop." Ivan explained.
"Wow! I wish I could drive these." Sparky looked fascinated at the vehicle.
"(chuckled) Only when you get older." Ivan chuckled, but then he heard Silver's hollering from downstair.
"Boys, lights out! We've got a day ahead of working tomorrow!" Silver hollered.
"Okay!" Sparky hollered back before he stood up while Ivan put away his stuff in his backpack. "Alright, time to get some shut eye sleep."
"Hey, thanks for helping me out. You know, doing some hard work and forging." Ivan thanked him.
"No problem. That's what friends are for, right?" Sparky replied.
"Right." Ivan yawned before he sat down and took off his shoes. "Well, goodnight buddy."
"G'night Ivan." Sparky walks downstairs to his room before he pop his head up one last time. "Don't let the spider bites."
He nodded as he watched his friend left the room. Then he slowly dropped his smile into frown as the boy took his photos out and staring at the photos of him and his friends. He was getting worried about his friends and he has no idea where they are. He is now all alone in this strange world of amphibians.
"Wherever you guys are, I hope you're alright." said Ivan.
Meanwhile, out in the forest where is all too foggy. Everything was all too quiet with some chirping sounds, then there was a tallest figure whose wearing a cloak with a hood, holding a binocular when seeing the eye of the sky until it spotted two items what appears to be a pair of boots.
The tallest figure puts away the binocular in a satchel and slide down on the hill until it reaches to the ground. It walks closer to the boots and picks one by examining it, looking too muddy and too dirty. Curiously, the hooded figure can only sniff until it picked up a scent until it spoke with an older feminine voice.
"Well, well. What do we have here."
What a twist! Who is this mysterious woman? Could it be a traveler or it could be something else? And now for the weather, I won't be able to continue for a while because I have to help out my family to get my house cleaned up before we throw a party from my older brother's birthday party on Fourth of July. Don't worry, I'll be back before you know it. Hope you enjoyed reading and I'll be seeing ya, real soon!
