Evelyn Kettering. That was her name, at least the name she now went by. She was the only Evelyn in the entire school, which was lucky for Selene, but it was unlucky that they listed students by last name. She had nearly destroyed the admission office files working her way from A through J and part of the Ks. Her student ID confirmed that this was her daughter, she still had Michael's kind eyes and such a happy smile for her portrait. Her hair was longer than it had been the last time Selene had seen her, with thick luscious brown curls. Could she really be happy here living this mundane life? Going to school, playing with her mates, worrying about boys and lip gloss?

Selene was compelled to look through her school folder: Evelyn Kettering. She played tennis and had joined the Agriculture Club; her GPA was 3.1 and she was looking to apply to a university in the coming years. This school must be nice, Selene thought as Evelyn had barely turned 15 and they were already discussing college prospects. Selene looked through the group photos, Evelyn blending in with them all so well with big smiles and goofy faces. She had real friends here. Real memories. Was this real happiness for her?

Selene noticed the emergency contact: Karl Kettering. He was listed as her uncle and her only relative. Who was this man and why was Eve with him? Selene knuckles turned white as she gripped the file, he would be the first to die she decided.

Selene dropped the file and proceeded to dump out more files to avoid suspicion of Eve. She left the school and directed her way towards the address listed. It was towards the outer edge of the city, as she carved her path, she tried to forget the photos of a smiling Evelyn. Night had fallen on Brussels, but the city still was moving just as fast as it had been that morning. Drunk humans stumbling through the buildings and laughing loudly mixed with the distant sirens or an ambulance trying to break through the traffic.

"I don't want you. Don't look for me."

Selene slowed her pace as Eve's words echoed in her mind. Had she found peace here? Was it possible that Eve had left the past behind her? Antigen? All the experiments? Even her mother and father? Selene felt a twinge of uncertainty, what if her arrival would upset Eve?

Selene pushed the feeling deep within herself and starting walking, it was no longer Eve's choice. The Lycans are sure to find her soon, if they hadn't already. This life of lies was over now, she couldn't keep pretending here. Maybe she could start somewhere new? Or maybe Eve would wish to return- Selene shook away her thoughts. She needed to focus, not daydream about whether her daughter would be happy to see her or not.

Perhaps now I will make a better impression since I already know about her and that Michael is dead. I can show her a different world, one away from all these humans who would kill her as soon as they learned about her. The castle may be full of politics and rumors, but she would be safe there from the Lycans.

As Selene moved away from the buzzing of downtown, she felt more anxious. She was getting closer to reuniting with her daughter, soon there would be no fantasy in her head. It would be real and she would not be able to control it. A firetruck raced past her with lights and alarms, it made Selene's stomach sink. She had a dreadful feeling that it was heading the same way she was. She wasted no more time and broke out running, it was then she smelled the smoke in the air.

She rounded the corner and saw the flames, reaching high into the sky tethered to a single house at the end of the street. Humans were rushing from their homes and the firefighters were moving in a blur to put out the fire. Selene had no doubt in her mind that was the house she was looking for. She watched the burning residence in disbelief, did the Lycan beat her here? Was her daughter's body laying in the flames? No. Not a chance.

The humans would never let her get closer, but she really didn't need to,she used her super speed to race past them all and land in the back garden. The heat was intense and she could hear nothing but the hungry inferno devoring the home. No heartbeats or screams for help, if Eve was really inside she would have to be dead. Selene knew it would be near impossible to run in and make it back out alive. She could barely stand the heat being next to it, she dare not imagine the inside. Selene was immune to the sunlight now, but there was still a deep seated dislike for heat and steam.

She ran around the other corner of the home when firefighters started to come into the garden with hoses. Selene knew there was nothing that could be done, but she couldn't look away. If her daughter was really in there, Selene thought she would feel it. The two were connected, maybe by the experiments or Valissa or perhaps something greater. Selene left the scene and now was stuck waiting again, she would need to see the full report of what was discovered in the home.

"Can he even talk?"

"No, ma'am, he can't even breath on his own."

Jolene was following the scouter to where the mysterious injured Lycan. A scouter was one of the pack placed in isolated locations to be on the look out for suspicious activities. They would stay there for maybe 6 months and then be switched out with someone else. Everyone in the pack knew of thier locations and was to use them as save havens if needed. Word got to Jolene that an injured Lycan on death's door had arrived at the Iviers location in France. This was too close of a proximity to Belgium for Jolene to not take notice.

Jolene had no idea who this Lycan was or if they were even a memeber of her pack. He could have been a nasty rogue who's luck had him stumble upon the lone cabin, but coincidences were not something Jolene overlooked.

"He is one of the pack, he has the tattoo on his ankle, I checked."

This was something Tiphus and Klaus had corrdinated together, a symbol to represent the pack. Something to show our unity and devotion to our species and our ultimate goal. The design was simple, a circle to represent the moon and two line point to represent the sharp teeth of the lycans. Under that was another two lined point to represent the vampires and how we are suprerior and will sink our teeth into them and destroy them completetly. This is all encompassed inside a diamond, it represents the alpha of the pack and how everything falls under them.

"Do you know him?"

"No, ma'am. I've never seen him before. When he got here, he was nearly dead. His arm had been ripped clean off and he had lost so much blood. I learned the basic first aide from the manuel and he was hardly breathing so I put him on the mask."

"You did well, soldier," Jolene congratulated him.

"He's in here," the scouter opened the door to display a man laying in a bed. He had IVs in his arms running fluids and a full face mask on the help him breath. He looked less of man than a Lycan but also less of Lycan than a machine. Jolene had seen worse in her days, it had been utter chaos when Marius was alpha. No regard to healing or repairing the Lycans who were broken, he only replaced them and moved on.

Jolene could see in an instant that this man was not Javier, he was much bulkier and his skin was far too pale. Jolene approached and looked to the ankle, seeing the tattoo was confirmation to her that this was one of her pack. She examined his face next, it was rough, wrinkled and scarred. No doubt he was from the older generation, but something about him looked familiar. Jolene was sure of it that she had definitely seen him before even though she could not place it.

Jolene took out her phone and went through the files that Melody had sent her regarding this mission. Javier assembled a team of 5?! What a complete idiot, Jolene rolled her eyes at the extreme arrogance of that Lycan. Jolene scrolled through the files, Malcolm, Winn, Art and Rao. She compared the pictures tot the man in the bed, his face still had unhealed burns but Jolene was positive it was Rao.

Rao had been with the pack since Lucian was alpha and had remained extremley loyal even with leadership changes. He had often been put on security detail which is why he seemed familar to Jolene. Rao had been in nearly every battle with the Vampires but had always survived but now after a simple stealth capture he lay here on the brink of death.

"She's one hell of a fighter," Jolene smirked at the prostect of the hyrbid child and then turned to the door, "Tell me his injuries," she demanded.

"Oh... uhm," the scouter cleared his throat. "He came without the left arm, like I said. He had some severe burns to his skin, but most have healed. It looks like his was bitten on his other shoulder, but it's healing too."

"And you said his breathing was ragged?"

"Yes, it was very quick and shallow."

"What of his clothes?"

"Only pants, ma'am. I undressed him and bathed him to see all the wounds accurately."

Jolene looked as the scrawny scouter, he was certianly not bulking up to be a warrior.

"You seem to have quite a knack for medicine."

"I was in nursing school before I joined the pack," he averted his eyes.

"Let me see the pants," Jolene requested and the scouter went to fetch them. Jolene went back on her phone, searching through the mission details. It was a house in Brussels, the mutant was living there pretending to be human with some uncle. She knew this already, but how did Rao end up here and like this? Where was Javier?

"Here they are ma'am," the scout presented the pants.

Jolene could smell the ash before she grabbed them. She saw the soot staining the denim and the singed seems along the bottom. It was obvious he was caught in a fire, it must be why he's struggling to breath, he inhaled too much smoke.

"You've done well scout. I'll recommend you re-enroll in school."

He could barely believe it and stuttered a grateful thank you as she marched out of the cabin.

"So? Who is he?"

"One of us, badly hurt, Might not survive."

Tiphus crossed his arms," Let me guess. Javier?"

"One of his," Jolene looked at the wet trees around her. The fresh rain had stained the countryside and made the whole place wreek of mud and dung. "Look into the mission. Go back to that house. Find the mutant."

"What of the others?"

"Dead I assume," Jolene watched a squirrel dash between the trees.

"All by the mutant?"

"You know she holds power," Jolene turned to him. "Why do you seem so surprised?"

"It's hard to imagine such a girl taking on 5 skilled Lycans and winning."

"She is not a girl," Jolene smiled as his ignorance. "She is much more than just a girl."
