Okay, time for the second chapter of this little request story! I know some of you have been waiting on this and asking me every two weeks 'when are you going to update this story'... well, here's an update now! Anyway, enjoy!
TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE PROLOGUE
It was about a week or so after... that fateful night at the Old Spanish Church on the side of the hill, when everything went downhill for Mystery Inc. It was bad enough that they had found out that the mayor, Fred's "father", was the monster that was trying to get them away from the disc, but to learn that Fred's real parents were still out there? That was when this small group started to go downhill... of course, it may have already started doing that last night when the gang's parents learned that they were out after curfew, but the next night did more than solidify it. Shaggy and Scooby were separated and sent away to different areas, Velma was too distraught because of what had happened to the gang AND her friends all because she kept her secret, and Fred was off looking for his real parents, no longer showing any care for anything else...
And the one that actually took it hard was Daphne Blake. The pretty red-haired girl in purple was upset enough when she learned about Fred's past, even offered to help him get through it... but then, he did something that was unimaginable, even to her... after everything that she worked hard to get through, trying to win Fred over, Fred finally noticing, getting engaged in secret... all of that came tumbling down that night when not only did Fred decide to split up the gang for the sake of his search for his true parents, BUT also broke off his engagement with Daphne. It hit her pretty hard, her mind starting to go crazy with anger... realizing that the one she was in love with... the one who had returned her feelings after EVERYTHING... reversed everything that she had worked up for. To Daphne, how could she possibly think about Fred after... AFTER THAT?!
Still, everything ran through her mind for the last week as she had nothing to go on... of course, she did attend parties, but nothing felt quite the same. And it was on that night as Daphne had isolated herself to her room and laid on her bed, thinking about everything that happened. She barely registered the sound of a door opening and a door closing, but the shadow that approached her caused her to look up...
Her mother looked down at her, half with disappointment, half with sympathy as she gave a sad sigh. "You're still thinking about... HIM, aren't you?"
"N-no. I'm not. I just- well..." Daphne groaned as she held her head.
"No need to lie. I can tell by the look of your face." Nan sighed as she sat down by the edge of her bed and gave a small sigh. "Look, I'm not saying that you need to move on or anything, but your upset face is really bringing down the mood. I mean, your sisters would never be upset over something as bad as this."
Daphne frowned a bit, getting a feeling that her mother just came in to remind her about how she values her four older sisters and their achievements over Daphne's dreams. "Is there an ACTUAL reason you came in?"
"Yes, actually." Nan rolled her eyes, before taking a deep breath. "Look, your little friends that you hang out with... I get it, it's hard to separate from people you know after... last week. But honestly, and don't take it personal... that first friend of yours, Fred? He was never right for you from the beginning."
"How can you say that, Mom?" Daphne asked. "Fred was the perfect guy for me! He's sweet, he..."
Daphne paused as she looked at her, trying to think up good things about Fred as she shut her eyes. "...he's very good with traps... an unhealthy amount, but he IS a good trapper... and okay, he's a little blind at times, but that's just a quirk. And... well..."
Daphne paused as Nan raised an eyebrow. "He's not really the mayor's son, is he?"
The purple wearing girl struggled a bit before sighing, "Well, no. But he's still a good guy, it's just..."
"That he broke your heart, and then threw it aside like yesterday's garbage." Nan crossed her arms as Daphne looked up at her in shock. "Feel free to deny it all you want, but, deep down, you know it's true."
Daphne fell silent as she looked down. After a moment, Nan gave a sad sigh as she put her hand on her daughter's shoulder. "Oh, chin up, now. It's not becoming of a Blake to let her tears drop. Look, while I don't necessarily approve of your little... mystery shenanigans you do... I suppose I do feel bad for your other friends. After all, that first boyfriend of yours? I'm sad about what happened, but sometimes, bad things just happened, and there's not a lot you can do about it."
Daphne sadly nodded, before looking up in confusion. "Fred WAS my first boyfriend. Why are you saying you feel bad for him?"
"No, no, not Fred. The other guy you dated." Nan shook her head.
"...other guy?" Daphne asked.
"The summer two years ago, when we won that trip to Hawaii? Remember? We couldn't attend, and your sisters had to go elsewhere, so we gave you the tickets to... I suppose invite your little friends for a good trip, despite our reservations?" Nan frowned. "Not all of them came over, so you invited this boy you said you liked, and his large pure-bred Great Dane... which, don't get me wrong, he does look marvelous, but a little dim-witted... and that puppy that was with them, too."
"Puppy?" Daphne shook her head... before her eyes widened. "Ohhhh, wait. You're talking about my other friend? Shaggy?"
"Right." Nan nodded.
"Mother, Shaggy wasn't my first boyfriend. He was just one of my friends, and I did want to take the gang with me, but Fred and Velma were at separate summer camps that were going to last the summer, so I took Shaggy with me, and he brought Scooby and his visiting nephew... Scrappy." Daphne said with a slight chuckle. "We only went to Hawaii as friends."
"Really? Friends?" Nan said as she raised an eyebrow. "Then why did you two spend all summer in the HIMALAYAS?"
It was right then Daphne looked at her mother in confusion. "The Himalayas?"
"Yeah, you told us your plane crashed near there, and you had to spend at least a day in the Himalayas... which, come to think of it, the Himalayas are in ASIA. Why would a plane go EAST to Hawaii, when the shortest path is WEST?" Nan frowned. "Tell me that.
Daphne blinked twice as she shut her eyes, trying to form a picture in her mind. "I... I don't really remember..."
"Oh? So you don't remember the calls you gave us, about your little side trips... going to the forests of the Himalayas, exploring castles, going to Morocco, a cruise ship, New Orleans, Stonehenge, you went on a TOUR IN AMERICA and stopped at the little puppy's HOME before coming back to Crystal Cove!" Nan frowned. "For a supposed two-week trip, you certainly got a WHOLE summer's worth of trips. I'm honestly surprised you two didn't go down the deep end..."
"What are you talking about?" Daphne blinked.
Nan just looked at Daphne with a strange look on her face before pulling out her phone and opening up a couple of tabs as she showed her a few pictures. Daphne took the phone and looked over at a few pictures. She immediately recognized her and Shaggy, along with Scooby and Scrappy, but there was one familiar kid in the back... a black haired kid with a yellow tracksuit. She squinted her eyes and recognized the kid. "Flim-Flam...?"
She didn't understand. How was Flim-Flam in these pictures? And... while she couldn't deny that these settings looked like those places her mother said she visited, it was impossible. How could she have gone into those places? There had to be some strange explanation...
Of course, what drew her attention was the pictures of how she and Shaggy were acting... sure, it started off normal, with Shaggy and Scooby, along with Scrappy to the side as she took a selfie of them together... but as more pictures came in, it was as if the two had moved closer together, and in one picture that looked like it was set on a cruise, Shaggy was blushing wildly wearing his orange swim trunks as Daphne was cuddling close to him, wearing a purple bikini. Scooby, Scrappy and Flim-Flam were in the background, fishing on the side of the boat, with Scooby looking around warily. Daphne then looked at the next picture as she noted Shaggy and her holding hands and waving to the camera, all the while eyeing each other quite happily...
"How did you get these?" Daphne asked in confusion.
"You sent them to us through text." Nan sighed. "I had half a mind to delete them, but... something in the back of my mind told me to keep them, just in case."
Daphne paused as she looked at the photos once more. "Jeepers, I... didn't think Shaggy and I were that close..."
"Well, something must have happened that caused you two to break up, because next thing we see, you're pining for some other boy, AND that first boyfriend looked like he wasn't bothered and moved on!" Nan explained, before crossing her legs. "So, how exactly did you and... Shaggy... break up?"
"We didn't... I mean, I don't know... I mean, we were never dating!" Daphne shut her eyes, as she gave a groan. "All I know is that I invited Shaggy and the two dogs to go to Hawaii with me... we went in the plane and started to ride... eastbound, like you said, which I guess WAS weird..." She scratched her head. "And then... then... then I came back to Crystal Cove with Scooby and Shaggy, and we reunited with our friends."
The purple wearing girl blinked twice as she noticed something was off. "How could this be? How could I have taken a vacation that I don't remember?"
"It must have been a VERY bad break-up with that first boyfriend, then." Nan gave a small sigh. "Shame, really. That boy may have a big appetite AND his family MIGHT not have a good social status as the Blakes, but out of all of those members, I actually liked this Shaggy man."
Daphne paused as she shut her eyes. "Ohhhhh... I do want to talk to Shaggy right now, but what can I do? The last thing I heard before we left was that his parents were going to send him to military school, and Scooby is being dropped off at a farm somewhere."
Nan looked over towards Daphne with a small look of sympathy on her face, before shutting her eyes. "I probably shouldn't be telling you this, but... while they have been separated... the Rogers have changed their minds about sending Shaggy to military school."
"Wait... they have?" Daphne asked in surprise. "Then... where is Shaggy right now?"
Nan took a deep breath as she leaned over and whispered in Daphne's ear. The red haired girl looked over at her mother in shock before Nan gave a sigh. "I may think that gang of yours may have a bad influence on you, but even I can't deny that you have a good friendship. But... DON'T tell your father I said that. I still disapprove of the shenanigans... BUT as long as you're just visiting as friends, I suppose it could be okay..."
Daphne nodded as she looked over at these mysterious photos. She gave a frown as she knew EXACTLY what she had to do... find Shaggy, hopefully see if he was okay, and try to help solve this small mystery... of course, she knew it would be tough without Fred, BUT... she had made up her mind. She can probably solve it herself, with Shaggy's help. All that was needed was the right motivation...
And that's this chapter done! How did you guys like it? Next time, we'll see where Shaggy is, and a small and happy reunion between the two as Daphne asks him what he remembers about the trip they took... what'll happen next may surprise you... or not, depending on your point of view! Anyway, read, review, criticize and suggest, everyone!
