NEON GENESIS: EVANGELION REFOLDED

I do not own Neon Genesis: Evangelion or any Neon Genesis: Evangelion-related media, those works are owned and in the hands of Gainax and Hideaki Anno, this is simply an unofficial fan-driven story based on the characters and story present, to be written in a new way for people to enjoy.

RESURGENCE:

The entirety of NERV blared with red lights and apocalyptic sirens across the narrow corridors and unfinished shafts of the site, and as the city went, quite literally, under and sinking into the floor and evacuated the majority of the suburbs to safe zones or bunkers littered around the edges of the city in the case of such an invasion, though the discord could never compare the abhorrent and discordant commands and yells across the Command Bridge, alongside the blaring light of the map displaying combat off the coast.

"The first angel attack seen since the last two decades." Fuyutusuki muttered behind Gendo, him still in his iconic pose and in his state of absolute silence and stillness on his throne amongst the other younger technicians and analysts.

It reminded him of the founding days of GEHIRN, he began to daydream... - better days have gone by- he thought to himself briefly, yet still uncaring in his demeanor as he assessed the situation.

"This means, we can finally test the Evangelions against an actual target." The other, the youngest of the Big Three, finally mused and stroked his chin in thought, him smiling for once..

It was unusual for the Chief of Security, Pyotor was the sprier and arguably more in touch with the rest of the NERV Staff compared to the other two thanks to his experiences, having led the Bundeswehr Peacekeepers to obviously maintain the peace, he had served in the Balkan Security Crisis and the New Saharan Republic as a major during the former and as a general during the latter, this made him at first glance a cold figure who would take nonsense as a sign for demotion or execution, that was the truth before his life changed for the worse.

It was a strange feeling for Shinji, he was riding in the back of the Red Alpine thundering down the waving hills gliding the edge of Tokyo-Three, rolling over in up and down motions along the fresh asphalt road lining the hills in slick black lines and if you looked from a far enough distance, in all likelihood it would've been a great and relaxing experience to drive on these roads...

Except for the fact the person driving said Alpine is a maniac when it comes to said driving, sometimes if the roads we're steep enough it would send the car just a tiny bit into the air- yet it felt like as if you we're flying on a roller coaster!

Not to even mention the fact that right next to Shinji is the fiery pot, of German-American and somehow Japanese descent, who screams at me just because of my sad existence as the dull Japanese boy who never felt he belonged anywhere except for the world of his old SDAT that, despite the short list of tracks present it was infinity to him to how it muffled out the pain, the Loneliness. It was lonely, but it's better than being rejected or worse, getting hurt if he tried.

Shinji glances towards his side, careful not to be seen by her bright blue eyes, she looked so happy for something that was threatening everything they ever knew, yet even when the wind blew through the open windows and her hair blasted through the backrest of her seat, she still looked as beautiful as the noon on Lake Ashi on the final set of the sun glowing its ethereal orange light scattered across the plains and hills in waning glory... then a scathing red hot smear on his left cheek became readily apparent after a swish of her arm slapped him straight on.

"What're you lookin' at pervert!" She screamed scathingly at him and crossing her arms over her chest and pouted, with her face looking out into the mountainside, he rubs it slowly to lighten the pain up as it continued to burn his skin even after seconds past after the fact.

He'd look down into the floor of the car after the pain subsided, not wanting to face the serenade that is her laser-focused glare probably staring him down.

It was only a few minutes before they pulled up the layers of security gates and uniformed khaki-tan men with their silly red berets probably undermined their appearance as guardians of Humanity's only hope against the darkness of the end.

"Okay, go, go, go!" Misato screamed as she pulled the Alpine into the curb of the main shaft, which was expertly hidden behind the gigantic megastructure that was NERV's public image.

The trio ran through hell and back, that being a multitude of running technicians and engineers and strewn about trash that was coincidentally scattered across their route to the locker room holding their plugsuit, which was pain for him to wear properly but a treasured memory to Asuka.

After a quick round of banter between the two, which was mostly one-sided, they began to enter their EVAs located on the nearest Eva Cage to the surface, with their canopies exposed to the winds of Starlifter Aircraft which we're already attached to the shoulders, their pylons removed for additional equipment for coast water operations which made the Evangelions look almost naked and lacking any armored plates to reduce the weight with the installed gear, for once they shared an opinion, a quick glance to show that "I don't feel safe." look, but she looked irritated, probably at how they defecated on her beloved Evangelion.

After the engineers made the final adjustments and the technicians correcting any misalignment with the synchronization nodes of the Evangelion, they set down the Entry Plugs ready to insert the Children for their first combat mission of their lives.

"Are you ready for this Asuka?" Shinji stuttered into his com-set, grasping at the controls as he craned over to overlook the calm seas, his head pivoting around in a sweep and his Evangelion mimicking this motion in addition to the automatic scanning of the dark blue waters below.

The side panel of the entry plug turned on the hologram that displayed Asuka's face, almost busting her head in, inside of his Evangelion.

"Born ready for this! Unlike you, I trained from the pivotal age of six!" She'd said confidently into the hologram with a fierce look of pride and sense of determination washing over her to prove she was indeed ready for this, and she was better than any of these other children, she'll make sure of it.

"I am going to have such an easy time with this monster, not like you, because you'll be thrashing like a child stuck in the adult swimming pool." She'd let out an insulting laugh, cocking her head back and fourth as she cackled, and saw the Third Child pivot his Evangelion's head downwards to the sea, like an actual baby, and he still had the audacity to just say "Sorry." for nothing! Asuka thought to herself.

Now his pouting made her, Asuka Langley Soryu, actually pity Ikari for his lack of talent, but it's not a me-problem to her though.

"Hey, keep it calm down there!" An old man, probably in his 50s judging from his voice, spat into her communications channel. "Your movement's making the Starlifter's job a lot harder!" The man grumbled to the little girl, and she decided to let a simple grunt as a reply, no need to talk to those below her, because she didn't need their attention or my time to be wasted by trying to explain how great she was to some random pilot who gets paid each month if he's lucky.

Now, a much younger and feminine voice squeaked into both Eva's radios, Major Misato spoke clearly and effectively.

"You are approaching the last coordinates of Lieutenant Huko-san, where his squadron encountered the Angel from the sea, attacking their escorts." She coughed to lubricate her voice further.

"The seawater and wreckage of the VTOL systems are messing with the prototype MAGI's analysis and sensors around the coast so keep your senses fresh on anything that happens."

"Your job is to confirm the presence of the Angel and escort the Starlifters transporting EVA-04 to New Yokusuka and intercept the target if need be."

"Understood?" She asked without the usual flamboyancy whenever they trained with her.

"Yes ma'am." Both of us replied concurrently into their comsets as we scanned the waters beneath them.

"This SL-04, we see you and heading our way, over." Squeaked one of the pilots into the general open channel.

"Copy SL-04, dropping payload for escort duty, then RTB." Replied back with a more gruffier man replying.

The squadron of Starlifters now faced the other two squadrons alongside their respective Evangelions, dropping EVA-01 and EVA-02 into the malevolent seas, with them almost completely submerged in the water, as well as their battery packs equipped on the other respective aircraft hovering just behind them and only a bit higher than the sea, the rest of the two squadrons returned back, without much fuel they were useless.

"SL-04 to Evangelion Units 01 to 02, are we ready for escort?" Squeaked the young pilot again into the children's comsets.

"Mhm, ready when you are!" I replied before Ikari could with his sheepish voice, he stuttered before going silent, only she could speak for him, the baka she thought. Hmmm, her head rang, a new insult to her list! Once again, Asuka thought to herself devilishly.

"Copy, moving out." The pilot yet again squeaked like a dumb parrot, is this what was going to be like for their first mission, she thought, just walking an "improved" version of her original Eva?

Her mind paused, watching several of the Starlifters spiral into the sea and colliding with one another and splashing into the waves in a sudden burst of explosions and shrapnel from the remnants of the crafts flying through the air, and sending EVA-04 into the sea like a life buoy being tossed aside.

"Green Pattern detected!" A technician exclaimed through the channels.

Reflexively, she went for the Progressive Knife stored in the forearm container, revealing an Evangelion-sized bayonet from my wrist, and grasping it as if it we're in her actual hands.

The beast, now on two legs rushed in the tough sea for Shinji, wrestling him down into the shallow seafloor and attempted to bite off it's head with its crocodile like mouth – she attempted to lunge for the thing in the hopes of tackling it off of Shinji before another one slammed down her side and skittered her across the seafloor like an ice rink filled with inexperienced losers.

"There's two of them!" Yelled out Fuyutusuki out loud now in panic. "Wasn't there supposed to be only one?!" He snapped over towards Gendo for a reaction, yet nothing came of it.

"Get off of me!" Shinji screamed at the terrifying beast attempting to shove his head down the it's throat, and the aircraft's still attached to him were sent splashing down into the ocean and combusting in white flashes like glittering stars as they spilled out his fuel line in black slick lines, Shinji desperately kept the thing off with his one free hand offsetting its intended course, but only for a brief time before it slowly won over his arm – pushing it, he attempted to grab at my Progressive Knife, noticing the thing's arms covering the door containing it.

Shinji scream in abject horror as the thing pushed aside my arm and went straight for his head...

"COME HERE!" A noise muffled but increasing rang out across the sea, as if there were a gigantic speaker, and quickly becoming louder approached him, before fully bashing the beast onto the seafloor and straddling it like a man on a bull holding on for dear life lest he fall back and suffer its mighty kick, the sounds almost like a voice to his ears, weirdly it was in English?

"PREPARE THYSELF!" He continued to hear its apathetic melody, only filled with passion and determination flowing through the voice- then with a subtle glance, what he thought was Asuka's terrifying Red Eva, was actually a white with accented blue Evangelion shoving its hands onto the two flaps that made up its mouth, putting its hand on the tip of it and pulling on it.

"THOSE IT DEFENDS, IN FEAR SHALL ADORE-" The White and Blue Evangelion fully committed to its hands, shifting all its power into the motion and pulling the beast's jaws wide open slowly and ruefully, the beast let out soft cries and whimpers like a puppy as its jaw began to rip apart, with its muscles clamping the thing being torn to shreds.

"AS IT'S HANDS LEAVE NOTHING BUT GORE!" The voice finished its half-baked rhyme with the beast's two flaps that made up its jaw torn apart in two directions, being sent into the floor and sky respectively thanks to the amount of pressure and power of the Evangelion's hands, it was the first time he saw, the true power of Eva.

After this quick swift of motion, Shinji snapped over to Asuka, having already won her own exchange between the Angel, leaving it with nothing but it's arm and torso attached, the rest of the limbs he did not want to know where they went or what she did with them.

"No further Green Pattern detected." Makoto said with respite, wiping off the sweat forming on his forehead, shifting his seat over towards the main Command Deck.

"This is strange, Adam had a Blue Pattern, isn't that right, Ikari?" Pyotr shifted his head slightly to face the man on his seat, looking out for a sort of any response or reaction to this oddity.

"Indeed, however Adam was a special Angel, thus it could've just been it, having a different pattern." Fuyutusuki replied, shifting over using his right hand to rotate himself around to face Pyotr.

"Or we face the other possiblity..." Gendo paused, letting his words sink into both Sub-Commanders. "...the Angel is still there." Gendo monotonously replied as he continued to stare at the screen, his shoulders tensed up slightly at the sight, though none of his subordinates caught it, causing him to revert to a small smirk underneath his hands.

"Okay, who's brat playing that god-awful music?" Asuka yelled into her com link, probably one of the crew back at NERV are playing a trick on her, or Ikari finally grew something.

The White-Blue Evangelion raised it's hand in the water, waving slightly as the water shifted in a circular motion around it in a swish and swash of clock hands revolving around it.

"Thaaat- would be me." An American accent was present, slightly putting Shinji and Asuka off-guard from it as the sound entered their Entry Plugs, both regressing slightly back into their seats with confusion.

"Who exactly is "me"?" Shinji asked with a pant to his breath as well as in very broken English, probably tired of whimpering after the beast almost ripped his head off, he squinted into the empty hologram as he slumped on his seat. "That would be..." The Evangelion pointed pridefully at itself, setting his thumb on where its heart should've been before unceremoniously disappearing.

"Huh..?! Where'd he go?" The duo squawked into the channel, looking around the area with their heads snapping left and right, they only saw the sliver of a fish tail swim away from the coast.

Before a thunderous and terrified scream blasted their com sets, Shinji recoiling further into the seat and held up his ears in a vain attempt to muffle the echo out – Asuka on the other hand, was furiously irritated by the sudden volt of noise flowing through her head, slamming down on the hologram as she bolted in the direction of the increasingly small silhouette of the boney fish tail.

"Warning, reaching operational limit." The onboard computer suddenly scolded Asuka as the EVA paced itself into a sudden halt, sending a bout of the seafloor scattering in every direction as its heels shifted to a firmer stance on the ground, still craning its neck into the expanse of the endless ocean.

It wasn't long before Shinji caught up, it was only until then did she realize how far she dashed that, in every direction, was a deep dark blue with no sign of the coast present on her eyes, and Shinji realizing it as well that they became lost in the infinite expanse.

"Damn it Misato! Where are we now?" Asuka grumbled into the com link to NERV, before it came back with a much more different voice than she had originally expected from the speaker.

"Not too far, we're sending the Starlifters to pick you up right now." A much more masculine voice responded, belonging to Pyotr, despite her sudden surprise – she came back with her a, mostly, contained respite in an unusually toned down voice.,

"Yes, papa."

It was only a few minutes after the fact, that she said those words, it struck Shinji like the string of cello suddenly snapping and coiling with a loud burst of panic, though he contained it all the same by sulking in his seat, watching out into the horizon of the shadowy sea of pre-Impact Japan, with nothing but the visages of sunken cities and lives smothered out by the comet that came and shook the World, right before his miraculous birth, he suddenly pressed down on the com link, hopefully distracting him from the thought long enough and speaking into it.

"What's gonna happen to the other Evangelion?" He'd ask precariously as I kept a hawk's eye on where he saw the last of the fish tail swimming away before he had reached the battery life of the Evangelion.

"EVA-04 has already been recovered by Rei, and we're prepping the extraction teams for all of you." The same man replied to him, despite my one month stay at Tokyo-3, he already knew most of the other prominent staff working there such as Akagi-san, Misato-chan, and Fuyutusuki-san – however he had never heard of his voice before.

How..? Was the only thing he wanted to say but...

"Okay." Was the only response he could say before cutting the channel off; it didn't take too much time for the Starlifters to attach their tow hooks and pull them out of the Pacific Sea, but he could still see the wrecks of those poor pilots that he should've saved.
