Chapter 55: The Stone-Searching Adventure Begins
Destination: Mushroom Kingdom
And so, after the portal had warped us out of Hyperdrive City, we have finally arrived at our pinpointed location in the Mushroom Kingdom. The problem, however, is that we weren't inside the kingdom. We were in the grasslands that were filled with mushrooms along with pink and yellow flowers. This was definitely perfect for our first adventure. That I can tell you.
"This environment is so bright. The space here is just decorated with mushrooms and flowers." I said.
Maybe I should pick up one. After we're done here.
"Tell me about it. It's very pretty. Princess Peach really knows how to make her environment lively. Even though I'm not into it that much." Blue said.
"Well… I have to hand it to her, despite the dislike of the colors, she does make it pretty." Candace said with a sweatdrop.
"Right?! That's "Peachy" for ya!" Gemma said with a peace sign.
"Did you really have to do that?" Candace asked with a facepalm.
"Ok, we can look at all this stuff later. We have to find that yellow legendary stone." Scarlett said.
"Y-Yeah, you're right. But first… how do we get information around here? This is our first time in a new world." I asked.
"I mean we walk around to find help. Duh." Darius said. "Let me add more context. When we want to find stuff, we have to ask the locals so they can give us any leads."
"Well… Yeah, I can agree with you on that, Darius." I said with a sweatdrop.
He does have a point. I must've forgotten one moment where I was asking Donguri Gaeru for help when I wanted to know where Primp Town was. And he understood me when I was speaking my own language. So I should have no problems talking to the residents here in the Mushroom Kingdom.
"So… should we talk to somebody close? Let's at least talk about that flash of light. That'll be a start." Kinsley said.
"Agreed. Let's go."
All of us were walking around a bit more, and along the way there were a few creatures that we spotted, but we paid no mind to them as we were busy with finding people that know something about the flash of light incident.
It was necessary to pay no mind to them. We can't let a villain get their hands on that stone.
"I'm surprised there ain't no… what are those brown grumpy doodads called? Goombas?" Darius asked.
"Yeah, they're goombas." Kris said.
"That's a surprise. Usually they would appear at a time like this but hey, I'll take it."
"I would be surprised too, but forget that. They're easy to kill so if we see them, just pounce on them." Scarlett said.
"Yeah, they're light work."
"I hate to tell you this, but do you think it's obvious that Bowser is the one that's going to be searching for the stone? Since he is in this world, and he's honestly kidnapping Princess Peach. He could be providing another major tactic." Gemma said.
"You may be right, Gemma." Blue said. "That could be a possibility, but we won't know unless we figure it out ourselves. So it's honestly best to keep looking longer."
"Is it best that we tell the Princess?"
"Guys, hold your tongue! I'm hearing voices!" I said as I heard a voice from a mile away.
"Well, it's our only option. She may be a witness."
"Yeah. She might have clues to what is going on."
"Locals! I know where they are coming from! We have to hurry!" I shouted.
"Well then what are you waiting for?!" Alexis shouted.
Everyone followed me to the sound of the voice with a great amount of speed. It took long enough because we were in a dire situation so the first was to find somebody that knows something about the flash of light.
Good thing I heard that too. We would've been looking everywhere and our adventure would've been off to a rusty start.
A couple of seconds after looking for the sound of voices, I finally found the residents that were opening their mouths. Mainly on… a princess.
"Excuse me!" I said to the locals.
What we found were two people wearing vests, pants that looked like diapers (What the hell?) and brown shoes.
The first one was wearing a yellow spotted mushroom cap on his head along with a yellow vest while the other one was wearing a blue spotted mushroom cap on his head along with a blue vest. Their eyes had different shapes which were mainly… all black. I'm not gonna judge on that.
"Hello there. Sorry for the intrusion. I just wanted to ask what you two were doing." I said to the two locals.
"Oh? You all look new here. Mainly… You remind us of the Princess." The person with the yellow spotted cap said.
"Yes, you are new here, is that right?" The person with the blue spotted cap asked.
"Yes. We all just came to this world and we wanted to see who needed help." I said.
"Are you both lost by any chance?" Blue asked.
"No no, we know how to find our way back. In fact, we were about to report a very strange event just minutes ago." The person with the blue spotted cap said.
"Strange event? What kind of strange event?" I asked.
"Well… it was sudden and it really scared the mushroom out of us… we both were gardening the flowers for our princess until we saw a very, VERY, bright light go straight through our eyes. It was almost as if my eyes were burning. We couldn't figure out what the cause was." The person with a yellow spotted cap explained.
"Which is why we need to head back to report the princess about this strange phenomena." The person with the blue spotted cap said.
Ok, so they're not alone when they notice the bright lights that burned their eyes. I hope the other dimensions don't have the same problem.
"Well… you don't have to report this princess. In fact, we know what that "phenomena" is." Scarlett said.
"Y-You do?!" Both humans asked.
"We're not from here, but we've… or rather "I've" witnessed this "bright light" before. I can lend you some information."
"Yes, P-Please do! In fact, you can come with us!" The person with a yellow spotted cap explained.
"The princess needs to understand what's going on so it would be best if you come with us." The person with a blue spotted cap explained.
"Let's head back to our house! We can request permission to speak with the Princess!"
"Y-Your house? We can't go straight to the princess?" Kinsley asked.
"Unfortunately, the princess can't speak to all of us Toads here, so it's best if we seek permission. It's more like an appointment so if you want entry, you must request permission."
That's really smart for a princess. She must know how many weirdos could be around here.
"I-I see… Well, ok, we'll go along with what you're planning, uh… whoever you are." I said.
"Oh, silly me. We haven't done introductions. My name's Yellow Toad. And this is Blue Toad. We've been friends for a long time." The yellow person said.
"How do you do? I'm Blue Toad! If you ever need anything, I'm happy to help!" The person named Blue Toad said.
"My name's Kaze Matsuzaki." I said. "Kaze for short. I'll introduce you to my friends later since we're in a dire situation. Anyway, we'll follow you to wherever you go."
"Alrighty then, Kaze! As I said before, we were just about to head to my house, so let's head there first." Yellow Toad said.
"Ok."
Minutes after meeting our new friends Yellow Toad and Blue Toad, we were all following them both to their home. I wasn't sure what their home looked like, but I had a strong feeling that it would be a simple hut. Again, I'm new to this, so don't judge me. I'm in a fictional world so I have these Toads to guide me in case I need help.
"So… about this… "phenomena" I brought up earlier, Kaze. Did you happen to figure that out on your own?" The Blue Toad asked.
"It wasn't just her. It was all of us because we were eyewitnesses of what happened." Scarlett said.
"All of you were eyewitnesses? Please tell us what happened! We can walk and talk along the way!" The Yellow Toad said.
"Ok, but just so you know, it's a long story, so I'll keep it simple." I said.
*ONE SIMPLE STORY THAT WOULD SUPER BORING LATER…*
"Oh dear… So here's what I know. Six worlds will get one bright light that indicates a legendary stone has appeared. And based on the information that you told me, there's a yellow legendary stone somewhere in this world." The Yellow Toad explained.
"Yes. Definitely accurate. Which is why I asked if you needed assistance." I said.
"It's definitely possible that Bowser's creating another evil scheme. It's the same old story once again with Bowser." The Yellow Toad said with a facepalm.
"Bowser? Who is this Bowser?" Kinsley asked.
"He's the evil nemesis of our land. He takes over town, kidnaps Princess Peach, in which we should have named her earlier, and does our best to terrorize us all. But our main hero, Mario, knows what it takes to defeat Bowser no matter what it takes.
…
…
…
But… But… the thing is…"
"But? What about it?" I asked, looking concerned.
Both toads had sad looks on his face, knowing something bad happened to their "hero", but it wasn't just tragic, but it shocked me when they said this…
"He decided to retire as the hero of Mushroom Kingdom and went back to his own world." The Blue Toad said.
What?! He… retired?! And went back to his own world?!
"He told us he did a lot of things for us that all great things have to come to a complete end. We were trying to convince him to stay much longer, but after what he said, the truth hurt us all. Even the Princess didn't want to accept the truth, but eventually did in the end. Mario did a lot of awesome things for us since us Toads are powerless against a powerful species in Bowser and all of us were just… reinforcements for him."
"Mario was a legend. He's never afraid of stepping into key moments. We wanted him to protect us forever, but… in the end, he's right. All great things have to come to an end. We all are on our own without him. Which is why we decided to create our strongest firepower, as our Princess said."
"I feel bad for you guys. You wanted Mario to come back until he decided to hang it up." Gemma said, looking a little sad.
"Yeah, just a sad ending to a great experience." Alexis said, feeling the same way.
But this could be a big opportunity for all of us. His retirement leaves the door open for the next heroine. In a way.
"Well… since we're here, how about we help you Toads?" I asked.
"R-Really? I don't know about all of this. It could be danger…"
"Heck with it being dangerous!" Darius shouted, cutting off Yellow Toad.
"H-Huh?"
"No matter if it's Bowser or whoever that stands in our way, I don't mind a challenge! It's the next man up! And if you're having trouble finding the source of things, We're here to help. No matter what dangerous situation there is."
"R-Right… What our friend, Darius, said." Scarlett said.
"You have us as knowledge so we can help you get what you want." I said. "It's time, like you're doing right now, that you should let go of the past and take care of what's present. And searching for the stone is what's present."
"Everyone…"
The Toads were silent for a few seconds, processing what I just said to them. They looked like they were in shock that I said that. Probably because they didn't know we were the ones that could bring the firepower for them. That was when Yellow Toad said this…
"Alright! Thank you very much! Your choice of words, Kaze and… Darius, I believe, helped open my eyes! Nothing can be done with words. Instead, we take the proper action of figuring out the causes of our problems with the exception of Mario."
"Right on! I'm not the type that would search for dangerous things, but actions need to be made immediately!" Blue Toad said with confidence.
"Well then, what are we wasting time for? Let's make haste!" Kinsley said.
"Alright! Our house is not too far from here. Let's go!" Yellow Toad said.
At least this helps the two of them.
"Here it is! It's just up ahead!" Yellow Toad said.
A couple of minutes after walking and talking, we were finally making our way to the Toads' home. Looking around the neighborhood, they were a couple of homes that looked like mushroom houses. There were a couple of different colored Toads roaming the neighborhood that a few of us had to wave at them. The rest of us paid no mind to them.
"Alright, here we are. This is the place." Yellow Toad said as he showed us a yellow mushroom house.
"I have another house that is a few miles from here. I'll show you another time." Blue Toad said.
"Alright. Take us in." I said.
We all went inside and once we all got in, the space was small, even though all twelve of us could fit in here. I wasn't sure what that was about, but it's not important at the moment.
"Why is this house small?" Kris asked as he was looking around.
"We didn't have the resources to build such a big home. Ever since, we got used to it." Blue Toad said.
"Ok, I'm requesting permission to speak with Princess Peach, so please hang tightly." Yellow Toad said.
"Alright." I said.
"So, Blue Toad… Well my name's Blue so we have the same name which is kinda shocking. Anyway, has this firepower become active yet? Did the Princess gather stronger reinforcements?" Blue asked.
"Her progress is almost there." Blue Toad said. "Other Toads are working with more weaponry and equipment. She's gathering other people to create an alliance so that the territory gets more maximized. I have a feeling that it's Bowser's schemes again."
"That's a good start. Hopefully it'll stay that way. We have to be prepared for what's coming towards us." Scarlett said.
"If I may ask you all, did you all just come here to provide support? You must be newcomers in this world."

…
"Honestly, Blue Toad, it would be better if we explained this to you along with the Princess. Because what we're about to say next is not gonna be pleasing to hear." I said with a worried look.
"Oh no… is it that bad?" Blue Toad asked, looking worried.
"Y-Yes. We have to. Because I believe she isn't gonna buy hearsay. So it would be best if we tell her ourselves."
"Alright. I sent her a request. She should be able to respond in a few." The Yellow Toad said.
"I wonder if there is a map of where we're at. So we don't find ourselves lost in a stranded world." Zack said.
"We do have one." Yellow Toad said. "This is our home right here. We're in the neighborhood of all the other Toads that are living there. To the top right is Toad Town. And on top of the map is the Mushroom Kingdom. The home of Princess Peach. She's been a great resource as of late. Her leadership and bravery has been stellar as of late. She's starting to get more comfortable protecting her fort ever since Mario retired."
"Well, the work is going to lessen once we take care of her long and boring work. I can guarantee that this will go smoothly for me." Candace said with a smirk.
"Um… Candace? We'll still be going through a lot." I said with a sweatdrop.
"Nonsense! I may not like it, but I'm only doing this because I want to survive this adventure alive by any means necessary."
"And that's why I'm here for Candace! I always have somebody I can trust! She's just a little too shy to admit it."
"I-I'm not admitting anything for you, thank you very much!" Candace shouted while blushing.
"It's always going to be these two getting along." Kris said.
"It could potentially be one of the bigger stories of this adventure." Blue said.
"You can say that again. Just two beautiful well-known celebrities." Darius said.
"Son of a bi– You know what, never mind! I would rather get to this Princess Peach or whoever than to talk about this irrelevant crap!" Candace complained.
She's easy to tease. Just like Raffina would do to me.
*DING* *DING* *DING*
"Ah! It might be the Princess!" Yellow Toad shouted as he went over to his little area.
"Is it the Princess, Yellow Toad?" Blue Toad asked.
"Great news! She's accepted our request for permission to speak with her in-person." Yellow Toad asked.
"Good. Anything to escape this silliness." Candace said.
"Uh…"
"This is how she is. Don't pay her any mind." Blue said to Blue Toad with sweatdrops from both.
"Alright. Princess Peach is in the Mushroom Kingdom. We'll have to get through Toad Town first to head inside the Kingdom." Yellow Toad said.
"Alright. Lead the way, Yellow Toad!" I said.
"You got it, Kaze!"
And so, all of us left Yellow Toad's house to head to Toad Town. This adventure is just the beginning and we're already getting leads. We were hopeful the Princess would lend any information on her own. But first, she would have to hear my side of the story.
I really hope she can take it though since Yellow Toad brought it up.
Author's Note: It has officially begun! The Mushroom Kingdom arc! The first step to potentially protecting the six dimensions from a nightmarish apocalypse. This will be filled with drama, comedy, heartwarming moments, and sad moments. The story's gonna get even more understanding as we progress through. I'm not sure how it's going to play out, but you'll start to understand it as we progress.
So Kaze and the party after meeting Yellow Toad and Blue Toad are going to head to the Mushroom Kingdom to offer information from Princess Peach. Will there be a plot-twist? Or will it be just as expected? I don't know. Neither do you need to know. Next chapter.
