"I'm surprised you didn't come to me with this before, Briar," you say.

"Huh?"

"Friends are supposed to help each other, right? And you've got a problem that I can help you with."

She blinks, and then nearly falls out of the air. "Wait, you can't mean you want to try opening a portal!"

"Nothing so ambitious," you reply. "And honestly, I have a feeling that trying to open a portal on top of the Hellmouth is just asking for the earth to open up and swallow you, or something similar. No, I was thinking more along the lines of figuring out a way to send messages back and forth between you and your mom. Ganondorf did something similar to communicate with Agahnim. Granted, reaching Hyrule from Earth is likely to be harder than reaching between Hyrule and the Sacred Realm, even without a seal - but it's something I can work up to. If you want."

Briar stares at you. "'If I want.'" She zips over and punches you in the arm, hard enough that you actually feel an actual impact. "You dummy! What do you think I want? Also, ow, damn, fuck your arm is hard!" She flutters around, grasping her hand.

You are careful not to laugh. "Now, this kind of thing works easier if there's a pre-existing weak-spot. So where is that portal you used to go to Faerie?"

"It's in the mountains."

"...you said what now?"

"Upstate," Briar adds, half-teasing, half-glum, and still holding her self-injured fingers. "I think it might even have been across the state line, in Oregon."

"Getting there might take a while," you admit, thinking on the prospect. You haven't worked out flight or teleportation yet, so getting anywhere near the site of the former portal under your own power is out of the question for the foreseeable future.
