A/N: Did you miss me? It was my birthday last week, so I thought I would give you all a nice treat. Also, I'm probably going to occupied more so now than ever, so I'm not going to make any promises about anything. But hopefully, I can come out with more updates! Happy pride month!

Chapter 18

Arizona paced back and forth in her apartment. What was she supposed to wear on a dinner date with someone she had already slept with? Someone who she felt like her soul had connected with, someone who looked after her like she was the only thing in the universe that mattered. The only thing that she cared about.

The blonde started taking out all the clothes he had got. Most of them were formal work skirts and blouses, but nothing stood out as special that she would wear to a date with Callie.

Calliope, sometimes it felt like she could read her like a book and sometimes she felt like the brunette was the biggest mystery ever. Like today, she was prepared to fight for the Latina, to tell her that she was not kissing Lauren, that she had nothing to do with her. Arizona had to run up about ten flights of stairs to catch up with her, she knew that if Callie left, she would definitely not get another chance, so she did what she had to do. But then when she was face to face with the brunette and yet she was not given the chance to speak. She followed her to her office to only have her fingers jammed between the doors.

She took a look at her fingers, it was as if nothing had happened, when so much did. Arizona did not expect to be asked out on a date or fuck herself in front of the brunette. That completely threw her off. Nevertheless, she took a long look at the pile of clothes that had accumulated on her floor. She took a quick glance at her watch. She had about an hour until Callie would pick her up.

"What am I going to do!" she said as she clutched her hair, hoping that some outfit would magically speak to her, tell her to pick it.

Just then, she heard a knock on her door.

"What!" She yelled as Teddy stood on the other side with her hands behind her back.

"It looks like a hurricane in here."

"Teddy, I don't have the time or patience for any of this right now. Callie's picking me up in under an hour and I don't have anything to wear."

The assistant brings her hands to the front revealing a nice emerald colored dress.

"This is where I come in."

Arizona takes the dress in her hands. It looked to be in her size, it was a nice backless dress with one strap. It had a slit in the front and seemed to reach her upper thigh. It looked beautiful. Callie was going to love it.

"Where did you get this?"

"I have my ways," she said as she shrugged her shoulders. "Now why don't you go take a shower and let me help you with this mess."

Within the next forty-five minutes Arizona had taken a shower, washed her hair, dried it and styled it. She put the dress on along with some light make up and strappy heels to go along with it. She was waiting on Callie with her phone in her hand. She was waiting on a text to let her know that the brunette was on her way but with every passing minute she kept on feeling anxious. She knew that Callie lived about ten minutes away from her place, so she should have left by now. Right?

Suddenly her phone buzzed. She almost dropped it in her haste to see her text.

'I'm still held up at work. I'll meet you directly at the restaurant. My driver will come pick you up.'

Arizona felt herself shrinking in her chair. It didn't make a difference to see Callie come pick her up or see her directly at the restaurant, but she suddenly had a very bad feeling about the night ahead of hers.

Deciding to put her thoughts away, Arizona quickly texted back.

'I'll see you at there.'

Right on time, Callie's driver arrived and picked her up and dropped her off at the restaurant. Based on her research, she knew that The Aria was one of the top restaurants of the city and it was also owned by the brunette. Before she could even give her name to the host, she was seated in a private space in the restaurant as one of the waiters poured a glass of her favorite white wine.

She quickly checked her phone again, hoping to see if Callie had reached or if she had even left work. But there was nothing. Arizona slowly sipped on her wine. Callie was a busy woman; she knew this about her. She practically owned the entire city, she had to be patient for her.

After about thirty minutes from the corner of her eye she caught the brunette rushing over to her. Arizona felt her face immediately morphing into a smile. Just as she was about to stand up to greet her, she felt a gentle kiss being placed on her cheek before Callie took her seat across the table.

"Sorry about that."

"Hmm…" Arizona responded as she watched Callie reaching for the menu and ordering herself something to drink. She was in the same suit as before, which told her she directly came from work. She seemed to be a bit out of breath which meant that she was in a rush to get here. So, there was at least something going for her, right?

Callie quickly ordered her Tequila for herself before turning to face her.

"I already had a three-course meal planned for us; I hope that's okay?"

"Yeah."

"Are you allergic to seafood, or anything else?"

"No, I'm not."

"Okay, good."

Why did it feel weird to be with Callie? She had always had a great time with her, even when they first met and she had gotten off by the brunette's mouth against her door, even when she had to throw her out because she was late for her meeting. When she had to barge into her office and demand another chance because she wanted this job too bad. She watched as the waited came and dropped off their soups.

"This is actually one of my favorites." The Latina said.

"Yeah?"

"I actually helped with the recipe- "but before Callie could finish her sentence, someone in a suit came and stood in between the two of them.

"Miss Torres, could I talk to you for a second?"

"Is this about the branch in New York?" she asked.

"Yes."

Callie turned to the blonde. "This shouldn't take long. I'll be back, why don't you enjoy your soup." She said before leaving the table.

This was strange. Who was she on a date with because Callie was never like this. She was had her attention on her, but now it seemed like she was a second thought that she didn't care about her. The waiters soon arrived and took away their soup bowls, even Callie's untouched slightly could soup to replace it with some shrimp with a side salad.

"Miss Torres said that it might take her a minute longer and that you can start without her." The waiter said as he topped off her wine.

"Umm, do you know why she had to step away?" She asked.

"Just for some business."

"Okay," she said as she smiled.

Arizona picked up her fork and debated in her mind. This is not how a date was supposed to be. The least she expected was to have Callie be on the other side of the table, but she was denied of that. She put her fork down and tried to get the waiters attention.

"Could I get the check please?" She asked.

"But you have barely toughed your steak and we still have dessert scheduled."

"I don't feel so well." She lied.

"Umm, Miss Torres has the expenses covered."

Arizona put on her best smile to convince the waiter. "I'm sure she does, but this was supposed to be my treat and I already feel bad about having to cut it short. You know Calliope and how she wants to do everything, so could you just get me the check and not tell her?" She asked as she popped her dimples.

The waiter looked at her, unable to decide. "Sure." He said before walking away.

Tears started stringing her eyes as she thought about how her date went. Was it too much to ask when she said that she wanted to spend time with Callie, that it didn't matter where they went or what they did, as long as they did it together? Was it too much? She didn't think so.

Arizona took the bill from the waiter's hand, her eyes nearly bulged out of her eye sockets when she saw the amount of it all. What a shame, Callie wasn't even here to enjoy it. This was too much to spend on a meal, ever. Nevertheless, the blonde wanted to get out of here, so she dropped her credit card on it. She nervously tapped the table. If the Latina came to her now and told her that she was done with work, that her attention would be on her now, that she would give her time. For once Arizona wanted to be first, not a runner up. But as the waiter got her check to sign, that hope too went away. She grabbed her purse from the back of her chair before making it outside of the road to hail a cab.

As soon as she made her way out, she heard someone running towards her. "Hey B! Where are you off to?"

"I'm going home."

Callie rested her hands on her elbows to catch her breath. "What! Why?"

"Because I'm tired and I have work to catch up on."

"But we were on a date."

This statement made Arizona mad. "Were we?" she asked as she rested her hands on her hips. "Because it seemed like I was on our date, alone."

"I just had to step in the back for a second that I- "

"For a second? You were gone for a whole hour!"

"You are over exaggerating! I was not gone for an hour." Callie looked at her watch only to realize that she indeed was. In fact, it was more like ninety minutes. "Oh."

"I just… I want to go home take a nice hot shower and go to sleep and forget that ever happened."

Callie grabbed Arizona's elbow to get her to turn towards her. "Look I'm sorry okay! It's just work and I- "

"Its always work Callie! If you didn't realize this, I have work too! I work for you, you have literally handed me a billion things to do, but I know how to make time for you and to schedule you into my day and do my job! I just, I expected better from you!"

Soon enough, a cab came to a stop in front of her. "Please B, give me another chance! I want to make this right!"

"I just want to go home right now."

"Beautiful, I'm so sorry, I promise you I will never- "

But before Callie could finish the blonde cut her off. "Don't make promises you cannot keep Callie." Arizona got into the car as she shut the door. She rolled down her window. "Good night."

"Will I see you tomorrow at work?" Callie asked as a last resort, to do anything to make her wait for a second longer.

"It's funny, I was actually really looking forward to spending tonight with you, to have dinner and drinks with you… This just, it sucks," she said before the cab pulled away.

A/N: Yes! I did go that way! What do you think should happen next? More drama? More angst?
