A/N: Yup, this chapter too is because of a spectacular wedding chapter that I just read. Honestly, at this point, my writing schedule depends on how other writers update and motivate me to go on and update! So, here you are!
I read that most of you all are kind of relying on an event to happen. But you know what, I'm not too sure how I like it or not… so I'm just going to let the characters lead me into the direction they want to take.
Chapter 22
Callie stood on the road as she watched her rental car drive away. Her fists were clenched tightly as her nails dug into her palms almost drawing blood. She could still feel the gentle breeze in the air as it slightly disrupted her perfectly coiffed hair. She could still make out the number plate on the car as it zoomed away from her, going farther and father away. For a long time, the brunette never felt this feeling in her chest. But what exactly was she feeling? Despair? Discomfort? Hurt? She never felt hurt. Yes, everybody in her past hurt her to some degree, and ever since then she refused to let herself get so involved that those bitter feelings ever came back. She could feel them now, she could feel everything come back all at once.
"Sweetie?"
Callie turned around to face the source of the voice to find Barbara standing there, looking at her with a worried expression on her face. "What's wrong? Where's Pumpkin?"
"Ummm…"
Just then Arizona's brother Tim came out running. "What's going on?"
Callie took a deep breath as she prepared herself to gather her words and explain to the blonde's family what had just happened. What had happened? She herself wasn't too sure about it.
"She left."
"Left?" Tim spoke up. "What was more important right now, that she had to leave? I don't understand, what do you mean by she left. Our old man is lying in the casket there, what could have been possibly more important at this moment that she had to go? Where did she go?"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know!" Tim yelled.
"Hush son, let her speak."
Tim threw his hands up in frustration.
"She said that I should go back to Seattle, picked up the keys and drove away."
"What the fuck does that mean?"
Once again, Barbara interrupted. "Language boy! You cannot talk to her like that!"
"I don't know alright? I have no idea what's going on in her head."
"Aren't the two of you supposed to be together? Aren't you dating?"
"No, we are not dating. We-" but before Callie could finish her sentence Tim cut her off.
"Then what are you doing here? Why are you here? Why are you still here!"
"Timmy!" Barbara yelled.
The brunette ran a shaky hand through her hair. Tim was right, what was she doing here? What was going on? They weren't really dating, she didn't date, but the past week was actually kind of nice. Sure, Arizona was grieving, but it felt nice to have the blonde leaning on her for comfort. It felt nice to be wanted by someone as much as they wanted their next breath. If this is what dating was, Callie didn't mind it, not with Arizona. Was she actually ready to give them another shot? Was she actually admitting to be comfortable in a relationship?
"I don't know," she whispered.
"What do you know than Callie!"
The brunette licked her drying lips.
"Timmy, why don't we give Callie a break here, its not her fault that Pumpkin is not here."
"Ma, why do you coddle her so much! I don't get it! First, she runs off to some strange city, she doesn't even think for a second and runs away. Do you know what hurts me most Ma? She knew that he was dying, she knew it was coming but she still stayed away! And now, it's his fucking funeral and she's off! Again! At this rate Callie, I suggest you take up on my sister's advice and go to Seattle, you are no longer needed here!"
Tim was about to storm off when his mom caught his bicep stopping him in his tracks. She looked up at her son with disbelief in her eyes to what just happened.
"Timothy Daniel Robbins! This is not the way to talk to anyone! Your father and I have raised you better than this. What's wrong with you?"
"Not today Ma, just not today." He said as he gently pried her hand away from his.
"Where are you going son?"
"Dad deserves a funeral Ma, and I'm not going to let it go by unfinished. She left, but I'm not going to do that. I'm going to go back inside and lead the people back to our house for the reception."
"Timmy-"
"Don't worry Ma, I got this… as always."
Just as Tim was about to leave, he turned back to face Callie.
"I'm sorry for how I spoke to you, but I'm not sorry for what I said. She's always been this away, going from one place to the other, finding a new shinny toy, playing with it, until she gets bored. Thank you for all that you have done for her and for Ma, but we have it from here."
Callie nodded as she watched the man leave.
"Callie dear, I'm so sorry about that, I have no idea what go into him-"
"He's grieving and I'm a big girl, I can take it."
"But it doesn't mean that he has to take it out on you sweetie." Barbara took her hands in her own as she spoke softly. "She'll come back, okay? She just processes things differently and-"
Callie shook her head. "I don't think she is coming back this time, at least not to me-"
"You have to give her some time sweetie, some patience and she'll be back and she'll apologize and everything will be right in this world."
"I cannot live off of hope Barbara."
"But-" this time Callie cut her off.
"I have a company to get to, a business to lead and things to take care off."
"Sweetie… my baby will come around. I believe in her. She just needs a few minutes to cool down and-"
"Well Barbara, my company is my baby and I-I need to get back to it. I'm afraid what you're asking from me is just not possible. Unfortunately, time is the one thing I don't have."
"Callie-"
"You take care okay Barbara?"
And just like that she turned around and left.
A couple of months later
Callie got up rom the foot of the bed before she flopped right back on the bed. She felt a woman falling into her arms as she wrapped herself around her.
"How is it that you keep on getting better and better?"
She heard her cell phone going on in her pants there were on the other corner of the room. She walked up to it and fetched it. It seemed to be a new number, a number that she didn't recognize and the area code didn't seem to be from New York or Seattle, so she hit the decline button.
"It's my magic touch."
"No, it's your magic penis!" The woman whispered before she lightly patted Callie's still limp member as she watched Callie taking the condom off and disposing before grabbing a fresh one out of the pack.
"Another one?" She asked. "You are like a bunny, once you go there is no way you stop, do you?"
"Nope, are you saying you cannot keep up?" The two of them laughed.
"Oh, I can keep up, if you can stop talking?"
The brunette smiled, and reached out to kiss her again. Her cell phone went off again. Callie reached to her nightstand and grabbed it to see that it was the same number again.
"Is it important?" The woman asked.
"No, I don't think so. It's probably a scam call."
"Is it the same number or is it a different number?" She asked.
"And that matters why?"
"Because silly, if it's the same number. Then its probably not a scam call and someone desperately wanting to talk to you."
Callie smiled. "What makes you think so? Besides this is my personal number, only a handful of people in the world have this number. It only rings when if I have personally given you thins number, it doesn't just randomly go off and I save all of my contacts in here." She explained.
"How dare they call you on your personal cell?" The woman feigned surprise.
"Oh, shut up."
Callie pushed her hair out of her face. "But no seriously, I'm very careful with who has this number, so I'm a little worried if my number is leaked, who did it, why they did it-"
"Babe, you need to calm down, its not a big deal, stuff like this happens." The brunette wanted to roll her eyes so bad at being called babe with a woman she was just using for sex. But the sex was decent enough for her to control her disgust.
"Alright, if you say so."
"If I say so or is it because of that?" She asked as she pointed at her penis.
Callie smiled. "Let's say it's a little bit of both?" She said as she leaned in for a kiss as she pushed this woman on her back. Just as she was about to pin her arms above her head, her eyes looked at her watch on her wrist.
"What's wrong baby?" She asked.
"Ummm…." The Latina started.
"You need to go?" The woman asked.
"Yeah…"
"Look at that, the clock strikes twelve and Callie Torres is out of here!"
The brunette leans down and gives her a quick kiss before extracting herself from her body. "You know me…" She starts speaking but she draws a blank.
"My name's Cecilia. Come on Callie, we have slept together for the billionth time now and you cannot remember my name, that is low. That is low even for you!"
Callie got off the bed as she grabbed her bra and put it on.
"Look I'm sorry, I'm bad with names!"
"Had I been any member on that stupid board of advisors you have you would not only remember my name, but my date of birth, where I live, hell even my blood type!"
"That is not true Camilla!"
The woman got up and hastily put her clothes on. "It's Cecilia!" She said before she stormed towards the bathroom. "I'm going to go take a shower, when I'm done you better be gone."
Just then Callie's cell phone started ringing again.
"Pick up the god damn phone Callie, maybe it's someone else who you slept with and don't remember her name anymore!"
But before Callie could say anything else Cecilia stormed out of her room. The Latina's finger tips flew to her forehead as she tried to relieve some tension, but the shrill sound of the phone made it impossible hard for her to concentrate on anything.
She decided to throw caution to the wind and decided to answer it. She picked up her phone and put it to her ear but refused to say a word just in case it was a paparazzi wanting to get some insider scoop on her own company. She wanted to make sure her number remained private and he'd probably just get disappointed and hang up on.
"Callie?" It sounded like an older woman, her accent was a bit southern. The brunette almost didn't recognize that voice… almost.
"Barbara?"
"Oh, thank god it's you!"
Callie ran a hand shaky hand through her hair as she tried to calm her nerves. The last time she spoke to Barbara was at her husband's funeral and she did not remember giving her her phone number, the only one who had her number was… wait…
"Yeah? What's going on?"
"You need to come here Callie, please!"
The Latina's mind was running at a hundred miles a minute. Why did Barbara sound so scared. What was wrong?
"What happened?"
"Just get here to Michigan okay, as soon as you can!"
"Barbara, please you are scaring me, are you okay?"
"No, it's… I need to go, but please come to the Michigan Central Hospital right now!"
"Barbara, is it-" But before Callie could ask her what was on her mind, the call disconnected.
In her anger the brunette threw her phone across the floor. She watched as it shattered completely the second it hit the floor. "Fuck!" She yelled. She quickly grabbed her jacket and keys before making her way down to her car. She picked up the spare phone that she liked to keep in case of emergencies and called her assistant.
"I need you to issue me a new phone," she said as she started her car and pulled out of the parking lot.
"Will that be all Madam Torres?"
Callie thought about it, will that be all. Was she going to go back to her apartment and sleep and pretend she never got the call? Like the woman who had called her didn't belong to a person who was very special to her.
"Call the pilot and tell him that we are flying to Michigan, ASAP!"
She could hear the clicking clacking sound of the key board. "I'm sorry Madam Torres, but he is unavailable."
"What about the other pilot?"
"He's out too, it's Christmas eve tomorrow, you gave them all an extra vacation day."
Callie wanted to throw this phone too but she couldn't because she was driving and she had to get to Michigan.
"Is the jet ready for departure?"
After a couple of seconds, she heard her assistant speak up. "Yup, it's at the tarmac, we had a delivery come in about two hours ago, it has enough fuel to take you to Michigan."
The brunette sighed in relief. "Call the airport and get me cleared for taking off in about twenty minutes." She cut the call and sped up her car.
Within no time she found herself at the airport, rushing towards her jet. She hastily climbed inside before throwing her jacket on one of the passenger seats. She buckled herself in before talking a moment to breath. If she was going to fly solo, she needed to be calm than frantic. Callie started doing pre flight checks, she checked the engines, the fuel tank, she made sure everything looked just right.
"This is Charlie Tango 5511 requesting for takeoff."
"You are clear for takeoff."
A/N: I know I know, but I need to take a breather here, but I promise I will update within the week! Maybe tomorrow or day after. In the mean time you can try to guess why Callie needs to be in Michigan as soon as possible, you may or may not be correct. 😉
