Everything you have to say to Tatsuki with regards to tactics has already been said, and probably said again by the girls while you were fighting Amae; repeating it now would just make it sound like you're casting doubt on Tatsuki's ability as a fighter. And while a part of you is tempted to tell her that you'll step in if things get out of hand, or to point out that Briar has healing magic on hand, most of you realizes that these, too, would be taken to mean that you don't think Tatsuki can win this match. Sabotaging the girl's confidence before what is almost certainly the most dangerous fight of her life is not what you're aiming for.

Besides, if the need arises, you can always jump in without warning.

"All set?" you ask Tatsuki, as she stands watching the officials haul intact tiles into the ring, and carry the broken pieces of other tiles out in buckets.

"Yeah."

You have a feeling that she's not being completely honest, but you let it pass unremarked. You can't blame Tatsuki for being nervous about this match-up, and you can't really think of anything to say that would help her get over it. Despite the social skills that you've gone to such effort to polish, it would see that you're badly out of practice at pre-battle pep-talks - not that Ganondorf was ever any great shakes at such things, either.

"Good luck," you tell Tatsuki, as the Announcer calls her and Gorn to the ring. "And kick ass."

"...yeah. Thanks."

As Tatsuki walks away, the other girls look at you, Cordelia particularly keenly.

"What?"

"'Good luck, and kick ass?'" Queen C repeats. "Is that really the best you could come up with?"

"It was the only thing that came to mind that I was sure wouldn't make it sound like I thought she was going to lose," you reply, as you weave a spell of divination that will allow you to monitor both fighters.

Gorn doesn't look much different when viewed through magical aura-reading, as opposed to ki-based aura sight. Darkness, danger, demonic power, the sense of tested strength and cold discipline - pretty much everything you already knew was there, or would have expected to see. Likewise, Tatsuki's aura doesn't appear significantly different through a new medium of observation... except for the black iron chain wrapped around her chest.

What. The. Hell?

"Alex?" Cordelia asks, having noticed your sudden tension. "What is it?"

"There's a binding spell on Tatsuki."

"You mean like Ichigo and his father?"

"No. Those were completely spiritual. This is pure magic." At least, that's the only explanation you can think of for why you didn't spot this dark, heavy chain when you glanced at Tatsuki's aura using ki sight yesterday. You squint, trying to get a better idea of what the spell is supposed to do, but the fight has begun, and Tatsuki and Gorn are too close for you to sort out their individual auras that precisely.

The fight is brief. Tatsuki does her best to lead Gorn towards the edge of the ring without making it look like that's her goal, but he either catches on to the ploy, or is simply too good a fighter for her to pull off the next part of the plan. Ignoring the boundary, Gorn seizes Tatsuki's shoulder with one hand and hammers her in the face and chest with the other - hard enough to make it clear that he knows how much punishment a human can take, and is holding back just enough of his strength to avoid crossing that line. Tatsuki's aura wavers under the assault, becoming diffuse, uncontrolled - indications of fear and surrender. Then Gorn breaks off his assault, picks the battered girl up with one hand, and slams her down on the tiles. Tatsuki lets out a choked gasp on impact, but tries to get up for a moment before Gorn steps on her back, forcing her down. He glances at the Announcer, who frowns but begins the ten-count, even as Tatsuki struggles to overcome the pressure.

You can see the black chain clearly again. It's rattling in time with Tatsuki's movements. You can't tell if it's affecting her body, her spirit, or even her mind - or for that matter, some combination of the three - but the way it reacts to her actions makes it clear that it's restricting her somehow.
