Your first impulse is to sit as close to the ring as you can manage, so that you'll have an easier time observing the fights and taking pointers. Close behind that, however, comes the urge to be considerate of what Cordelia's been through in the last half-hour, and pick a somewhat quieter, less crowded, more distant set of seats. After a moment of struggling to make a decision between these two options, you shrug and take a third route.
"Where do you guys want to sit?"
As it turns out, Altria would prefer to sit close to the action as well. Lu-sensei waits on answering until he's heard Cordelia speak, and when she says - a shade reluctantly - that Altria's suggestion sounds fine, your teacher adds his support. You have no objection to this outcome, and Briar tags along, noting with some cheek that her favorite perch is your shoulder - although this time, she might try sitting on top of your head, so she can see over the people in front of you.
Due to the time it takes to find a group of four unclaimed seats that don't have people too tall for the average eight year old to see past sitting in front of them, you miss most of the first match of the second round. This is okay, because you're in a pretty good position to watch the round's seven remaining matches, especially after you spend a little extra ki to enhance your distance vision. Some of the fights don't offer much to see in the way of the flashier ki techniques, featuring as they do demonic fighters or humans who either choose not to employ or simply don't know how to wield such abilities. You do witness one boy use a ranged attack that manifests as a heatwave-like shimmer in the air, rather than the more tangible blasts that you, Krillin, and Liu Kang were throwing around, and that boy is one of no less than five fighters - including another two boys, a girl, and some sort of demon that could be either gender - who make use of the Body Flicker technique, or something close enough to it as to make no difference. None of these five individuals really fights like Kasumi or Ayane did, lending support to Shiden's remark that the Body Flicker is not a secret technique of their family style. Most of the older kids fighting at this level demonstrate the ability to control their energies, and just by observing their auras, you pick up some hints on how to better manage your reserves and internal uses of ki.
You make an effort to draw Altria and Cordelia into a discussion about the matches and the fighters, but the noise of the crowd soon forces you to limit that to brief snatches of conversation after each match; yelling "What?" back and forth over everybody else's cheering is just a waste of time and effort, especially when you're trying to pay close enough attention to learn something. Incidentally, you do learn a fair bit, not all of it about ki: some of the larger competitors in this division demonstrate moves against smaller, quicker opponents that catch your interest; some of those smaller fighters use techniques you mentally note to watch out for in the future; and you also note that the Under Fourteens Division allows for the use of certain blunted melee weapons. From what you recall of the rules, blunted ranged weapons are permitted in the Under Eighteens Division, and the Adult Division allows for live blades, although there was something about an "Armed Division" and "Unarmed Division" that you didn't pay much attention to at the time, since it wasn't relevant to the Under Tens Division. And on top of all that, just listening to the Announcer's on-the-fly running commentary provides some further pointers on the Japanese language.

As the second round winds to a close, you take stock. Not wanting to miss a moment of the action, you were burning ki almost constantly during those matches; although the visual enhancement techniques aren't that expensive even when you're using two of them together, you're still down to about sixty percent of your maximum. The Announcer has just declared the second intermission, while they prepare for the quarter-finals.
