Prologue-
Time: Unknown
Was it just a saying? Was it just a myth? A fairy tale? A story just to be told from mother to daughter?
Elena remembers the first time she heard the line, "The Petrova fire" from Katherine when she was in the ancient tomb, when she gave her blood shot by shot to the older vampire.
It sounded mysterious and ominous to her when she first heard it. If you were to ask Elena what it meant for her, (her first time around) she would say it was her compassion. Her perseverance. Her confidence in her abilities of who she is as a person.
Now if you were, (to say the least) ask the Petrova ancestors, they would reply in whispers that it was a prophecy of a shadow self, who has the will to set all things right for others thay are not of the Petrova line. This is where the story begins.
