With the immediate threat of mind-control behind you, you decide to let your protection spell lapse. You want to be able to see any further uses of magic as clearly as possible, and anyway, if it proves necessary, you can always cast another abjuration in the future. Maybe not the same one, though, or at least not to its full potency; the basic form of the magic circle, which would last for most of an hour, is a touch expensive for something you'll only use for a few minutes at a time.

Raising your ki sight and re-casting your preferred divination spell, you settle in to watch the sixth bout, between Hayabusa Ryu and the large club-wielder, clad in black-striped gold, who the Announcer introduces as Akatora. The two fighters bow, and then, as the Announcer declares the match on, Akatora roars and brings his club around in an overhand swing that craters the tiled floor. Ryu evades it, but is forced to dodge again as his opponent delivers another ferocious blow, this time sidelong. You can see the young swordsman's clothes fluttering in the wind of the huge weapon's passage - if even one of those strikes connects, Ryu's going to be left with broken bones at best.

Fortunately for him, that never happens. Although Akatora uses the reach and brutal power of his club intelligently, forcing Ryu into ever-tighter corners, when he finally delivers what appears like it will be the final crushing blow, the young ninja disappears in a swirl of leaves and reappears directly behind his foe, his own weapon drawn. Akatora is struck at least four times in rapid succession as he turns around, and then takes a follow-up backflip kick to the jaw. Ryu is no featherweight, and even a guy as big as Akatora is briefly knocked off his feet by that kind of impact. He doesn't black out, but he does lose his grip on his club in the process, and Ryu is quick to seize the oversized stick and toss it out of the ring.

Disarmed, the fight rapidly turns against Akatora. He spends a minute trying to punch, kick, or simply get his hands on Ryu, but the ninja is too fast and skilled at defense - most of his opponent's blows miss, and the rest are deflected. With a roar of frustrated anger, Akatora releases an unexpectedly inhuman burst of aura and transforms, gaining about two feet of height, several hundred pounds of muscle, two ox-like horns, and an overall more ferocious aspect.

"Oh, crap!" the Announcer shouts, momentarily losing his professional cool. "Who let an oni in here?!"

The revelation of Akatora's true nature gets Ryu to back off, but only for a few moments. Once he has the measure of his opponent's new abilities - which to be fair, include a level of strength sufficient to shatter the faux-stone tiles of the ring, and a seeming imperviousness to the blows of Ryu's competition-grade wooden sword - the ninja responds with a ninpo that unleashes a whole lot of fire. The oni takes the blast directly to the chest and goes down with a howl of agony. Seeing Ryu close in, weapon raised and glowing with fire-imbued ki for a finishing blow, Akatora vanishes. Young Hayabusa stops, gives the floor where his opponent lay an experimental strike, and looks around at the ring. No attack is forthcoming, yet Ryu does not visibly relax.

It's wise of him; thanks to your divination spell, you're able to see the aura of Akatora's invisibility spell, and can track him as he first rolls away from the ninja, then casts a spell of flight. Up and up the oni's spell-wreathed presence rises - and then he reappears in the midst of an alarmingly swift dive, which if it connects will surely knock Ryu clear out of the ring.

Too bad for the oni that this is a ninja he's trying to dive-bomb. Ryu reacts in an instant, leaping up and onto the oni's broad back, where he raises his still-glowing weapon in both hands and brings it down across the back of the demon's head with enough force to split the wooden blade in two. Akatora goes limp and falls out of the air in a crash that carries him clear out of the ring; Ryu, meanwhile, backflips off of his temporary platform and lands neatly in the ring, just as the Announcer declares his victory.

As Ryu leaves the ring, the Announcer states that there will be a brief intermission while the ring gets patched up and the paramedics get Akatora to the infirmary. Watching half a dozen grown men mill about, trying to work out how to lever an eight-foot tall, half-ton brute onto their flimsy stretchers - never mind how they'll haul all that weight through the halls - while others begin damage control, it occurs to you that you could use this opportunity to deliver a message to certain concerned parties.
