Summoning up all of your childish innocence, you put on an expression of good-natured obliviousness. Sort of like a standard shounen protagonist, come to think of it.
"Aw, really? Darn it, and I was looking forward to that, too." You sigh and shrug. "Oh well. Thanks for letting me know." With a slight bow that might be considered respectfully grateful, you add, "I've got to go now. If you'll excuse me."
From the way the guy is staring at you, your little act may have actually worked - if only by dint of stunning him with disbelief that the kid who fought his way to the top of the Under Tens Division with skill and cunning could be such an airhead outside of the ring. It's certainly having an effect on Briar, whose pronounced boggle you can sense emanating from her spot on your shoulder.
You get all of two and a half steps before you see a shadow stretching forth on the floor, which clearly has its origins from the guy behind you, who's now coming up on you quickly. Turning with an artless blink, you immediately see why Briar described him as "stone-faced" - guy has a chin that you could crack walnuts on, a forehead to match, and a serious lack of anything resembling softness in his features, whether in the literal or the metaphorical senses.
Making a note not to punch Stone Face in the jaw if it comes to a fight, you smile ingenuously. "I'm sorry, was there something else?"
Stone Face comes to a halt and blinks slowly, hints of suspicion creeping into his lack-of-expression. Then, in the voice of a grown man with a throat infection, he says, "Your childish act fools no one, foreigner."
"'Act?'" you repeat, blinking in faked confusion and turning your head to one side. "What act? Wait, is this some kind of local slang or something? Because I won't lie to you guys, my Japanese is pretty shaky."
"Yes, shaky enough to follow Lord Shiden and Lady Ayame through an hour-long discussion without fault." Scowly Guy snorts in disgust. "Give it up, brat. Your fighting skills are passable, but you have no skill as an actor."
"...are you calling me a liar?"
"Oh, for -" Scowly Guy reaches for you.
