You have a strong impulse to summon something big and nasty in the hall to deal with the attacking band of ninjas - like, for instance, a Darknut. As much fun as the mental image of one of those towering warriors cutting loose on your enemies is, you know without even making the attempt that summoning such a dark champion is currently beyond your skills. You're also unsure if any single creature that you ARE able to call up would be able to last long enough to make any kind of worthwhile contribution against a dozen battle-hyped ninja, or if summoning weaker, more numerous allies would be any more effective.
Now that you've had a chance to see the situation for yourself, the idea of simply evacuating is less attractive than it was just a minute ago. If the bad guys are this determined to kill Kasumi's family, you'd really rather not lead them back to Cordelia and the Shuzen girls, no matter how well-equipped the three sisters are to take care of themselves. Teleporting to the infirmary, while a seemingly sensible plan, has some serious disadvantages, mainly that you don't know who you'll find waiting on the other end, or who might walk in while you're busy playing interdimensional taxi. Pulling your friends out of one ambush, where they at least have backup, only to drop them in the jaws of another where they'll be - however briefly - on their own, just doesn't appeal. And you really don't know your way around the arena, certainly not well enough to pick out any potential locations that you haven't been - most of which are likely crawling with scared spectators, upset participants, ticked-off security, and hostile intruders.
It says something that, rather than call for additional help or attempt to escape, you'd prefer to play doctor in the middle of a kung fu battle. Exactly what it says is open to interpretation.
Dismissing that thought for now, you glance about, and spot a battered first aid kit next to Shiden. A quick inspection shows that the shrapnel claimed a thermometer, a pack of disposable gloves and sanitary wipes, and some of the bandages and dressings, while wreaking havoc on the emergency blanket. Any bandages that came through the blast in useful condition appear to have been expended binding Shiden's wounds, but there are a few other odds and ends that appear largely intact, among them a pair of tweezers.
As you draw the tweezers out, Kasumi reaches out and stops your hand.
"Alex," she says, in a quiet, controlled voice that doesn't reach the adults, and also fails to hide how scared she is right now, "are you planning what I think you're planning?"
"I'm not crazy about the idea," you admit softly, before quickly summarizing your thoughts. The limitations of your method of teleportation. The lack of known, safe destinations in range. The potential for lurking or roaming hostiles. You finish by waving the tweezers and asking, "Unless you have a better idea?"
Kasumi looks at you. "Do you have any first aid training?"
"No," you admit. As Kasumi's expression turns incredulous, you add, "But I have Briar, and I can cheat outrageously with ki and magic."
The brunette frowns. "Can you cast the spells you were planning to use on someone else?"
You think on it, and nod. The divination spells you had in mind for this are variable-target by nature.
"Then give me those," she reaches for the tweezers, "and start casting."
You hesitate in releasing your grip on the little metal tool. Ninja or not, should you really let a girl Kasumi's age treat her own father when he's in this kind of condition?
