"Hey-" Alison walked inside the spacious room that was filled with people. She was about to say something when her sister interrupted her mid-sentence.
"You're late." Spencer said matter-of-factly while sitting at the head of the huge table, with slight annoyance covering her features.
"I know." Alison simply stated, not bothering to find an excuse, knowing that it would get a rise out of the brunette.
She was enjoying the fact that she could provoke her older sister without many consequences, solely because Spencer was now depending on Alison herself. She couldn't help but feel proud: she was only twenty-six and already an established name in Hollywood, with an Oscar under her belt. A little on the wild side according to the media, Alison DiLaurentis was a cocky blonde bombshell that everyone seemed to know and love. She was widely recognized not only for her beauty but also her talent, something that not even her sister could deny.
That's why Spencer was willing to put up with most of the bullshit Alison would drop on her nowadays: this movie was Spencer's chance for a big break, her dream of becoming one of the biggest movie directors was right under her nose. The script was amazing, or at least that's what Spencer thought, though her thinking might've been a little biased because she wrote the script, alongside her best friend Aria. And with her little sister as a leading role, she knew the movie would do more than well. But as of recently, another big name has been attached, and Spencer was sure her film would be an instant hit.
She had gotten this crazy idea thanks to Aria- the shorter brunette suggested that they should try casting someone who is polar opposite of Alison, or at least opposite to the general public's idea of Alison. For some reason the media liked to portray the blonde as a dangerous femme fatale, which was probably because the character that made her so well known was something in the lines of that. They were also saying that she was a bit of a player in the dating game- Alison was openly bisexual, often seen at VIP parties in the company of various famous and wealthy men and women. Alison never really denied the rumors, but only because she couldn't care less about what the public said. She did care about her fans though, so as long as they were happy she was okay with it too. So when Spencer finally got the call back from the agent of one of the biggest rising names in the movie industry, confirming they were interested in taking the role, she was ecstatic.
In contrast to Alison's bad girl image Aria and Spencer had chosen America's absolute sweetheart- one and only Emily Catherine Fields. Emily Fields had started out her career as a model, but soon enough she was booking gigs in the TV world- first it was cameos here and there but after acting in a Scorsese movie she had her big break and the whole world seemed to be in love with her. She was brilliant on-set and had her own fair share of bad girl roles, but in the eyes of the media Emily was the perfect girl next door, the type of girl you'd bring home to meet your parents. She had no scandals involving her and even her coworkers have publicly said that she is genuinely sweet, and Spencer was more than happy that at least one of her leading actresses wasn't a snob.
Spencer rolled her eyes at Alison but the blonde wasn't paying attention, she was scanning the room until her eyes laid upon an empty place at the table, with a piece of paper with her name in front of it, indicating it was in fact, her chair, so she quickly walked over an quietly took a seat, not bothering to look at whoever was sitting next to her. She took a quick glance at her phone, she was about thirty minutes late, which wasn't that bad but when she looked up she was met with Spencer's annoyed gaze once again.
"Are you ready to start, your majesty?" Spencer huffed, her tone laced with sarcasm.
"Whatever, let's just get this over with. I have things to do." Alison said with a shrug.
"So do we Ali, we've all been waiting for you to arrive so you better start reading your lines before I whoop your ass from across this table."
Alison heard a soft giggle coming from the seat beside her. She instinctively turned her head towards the source of the cute sound and felt her lips part slightly at the sight in front of her. Alison was aware that she was going to be sharing the screen with Emily, and sure, she had seen Emily's pictures before, they were kind of hard to miss because the girl was seemingly everywhere, and she had even seen some of Emily's previous work so she knew the girl was both talented and pretty, but what Alison wasn't aware of was the fact that the camera didn't do almost any justice to the brunette in question. Alison was now sure that Emily was one of the most beautiful women she had ever seen. She composed herself quickly, and even though she felt her cheeks slightly flush at Spencer's comment, she turned to the girl next to her with a questioning look.
"Did you find that funny?" She whispered while raising a perfectly arched eyebrow at the brunette in front of her, catching her off guard.
Emily shot her an apologetic smile while muttering a quick 'sorry'. Alison only looked at her coldly for a couple of seconds, shifting her gaze elsewhere when she felt the ice from her glare melt by the heat radiating from the mesmerizing brown orbs staring right back at her.
Spencer cleared her throat rather loudly, hoping to catch the blonde girl's attention.
"So?" She questioned, bringing Alison back from her haze.
"I left my script in the car."
The room echoed with laughter because apparently everyone but Spencer found it funny. The tall brunette groaned while squeezing her eyes shut and moving to rest her forehead on the table, she was about to cuss the living hell out of the younger girl but before she could do that, Emily pushed her own script towards Alison and the blonde girl got the memo, immediately getting into character, all while shooting Emily a wink of gratitude along with a soft smile that showed her dimples. Emily was thankful that she was sitting because for some reason seeing Alison smile made her weak in the knees.
She was fascinated by the way Alison read her lines, it was amazing to see the girl's whole demeanor change- it was almost as if she became another person, she truly brought her character to life. The rest of the cast went through some of their lines as well, Emily included. Some of them read together, as per Spencer's instructions. They weren't any major roles besides Alison and Emily, mainly because this was a love story between their characters, so the main focus was on them. Aria looked toward where Alison and Emily were sitting, turning her head slightly when she addressed them.
"We were supposed to do some screen tests, just to see how well you two would work together because we didn't really do any traditional auditions for this as you both already know, but unfortunately we don't have time to do those today." Aria announced apologetically while shifting her eyes between the two women, but before she could say anything else her best friend intervened.
"Yeah, because a certain someone who was late also claimed that she could have chemistry with a phone charger if she wanted to," Spencer said while raising her hands in a surrendering manner, "her words, not mine."
The room was filled with laughter once more but Alison only rolled her eyes at Spencer. She really couldn't care less that the brunette was making fun of her.
"Ookay..." Aria continued while glancing between Spencer and Alison, her hazel eyes widening slightly. "So that would be all for today, unless there are any questions regarding the.."
Everyone started to get up before she could even finish her sentence, and Aria dropped her shoulders defeatedly, feeling like she was a boring professor among high schoolers. Emily gathered her belongings, quickly realizing that her script was missing. Emily's gaze was fixed on the blonde girl who was walking out the door with Emily's script in hand and she was about to follow her when she heard Spencer's voice behind her, calling out her name.
"Hey, " Spencer started brightly, not realizing that Emily's mind was elsewhere. "I'm sorry that we had to cut our meeting short today, but I'll talk to Ali so that the two of you could meet up with me and Aria for some consulting." At the mention of the blonde's name Emily was shaken out of her haze. "By the way, Alison can be a handful sometimes but I'll make sure she behaves." Spencer said playfully and Emily finally realized that the tension between the two was just some silly sisterly banter.
"I think I can handle her myself." Emily played along with a sly grin covering her features. "Text me about those consulting sessions, I'll see you soon." She touched Spencer's forearm in a goodbye manner and rushed out of the building before the other brunette could reply. She was looking around the huge parking lot until her eyes fell on long, golden locks of hair, which were now disappearing behind the doors of a red mustang.
Emily ran towards the car and knocked on the tinted window. Soon enough the window started to roll down, revealing Alison's head peaking behind with curious eyes. The brunette leaned on the car and scrunched lightly, bringing herself to Alison's eye level, only to feel her insides turn at the sight of the blonde girl. There was something so serene yet so unnerving about those icy blues studying her face intently. They were electric, and Emily swore she could feel those ocean currents pulling her in.
"Did you need something?" Alison's voice brought Emily back to reality after a couple of seconds that felt like eternity.
"You took something that belongs to me." Emily replied absentmindedly, having a hard time focusing when the blonde's gaze was fixed at her again.
"What, your heart?" Alison questioned mischievously, a smirk covering her features, expressive eyes swirling with something Emily couldn't pinpoint. Burning heat radiated from Alison's gaze and Emily never knew that a fire could be so blue.
"M-my script." Emily nodded towards the passenger seat with a nervous chuckle, her face blushing brightly. Alison followed Emily's gaze, her nose scrunched up in confusion before seeing a stack of papers scattered across the car seat, 'E. FIELDS' sprawled across each paper in a large font. Alison's face fell in realization and she quickly started to apologize while folding the papers neatly.
"I'm really sorry, I hadn't even realized that I took it." She said in an apologetic tone while extending the script towards the standing girl, but Emily was just staring at her with a shy smile, her cheeks still glowing red as a result of Alison's previous flirtatious comment. The warm chocolate eyes laced with caramel left Alison dizzy, making her feel like she was on a sugar high. She thought that she never had much of a sweet tooth, but the girl in front of her was proving her wrong. Emily was adorable, Alison concluded.
"Umm, thanks." Emily broke out of whatever haze she was in and took the script from the blonde. "Spencer said something about setting up a meeting for us only so that we could understand the relationship between our characters better, or whatever." Emily blurted out, trying to keep the conversation from ending.
"Yeah, um that's just her polite way of saying that she's going to force us to listen her and Aria talk nonsense for three hours straight, " Alison said with a dark chuckle, "I am so not attending those, she can count me out."
Emily frowned because she was actually looking forward to spending more time with her future co-star, but before she could say anything the girl in the question fished out a pen out of her pocket and pulled Emily's hand through the window opening. After scribbling something inside Emily's palm, she took a second to appreciate her handiwork, flashing a quick smile.
"There." She announced, dropping the brunette's hand gently. Emily took a glance at her hand and immediately started laughing.
"Really? All of this space," she motioned to the handful of papers in her other hand, "yet this is where you chose to write your phone number. You're so corny."
"You better take that back, Emily Fields." Alison threatened, although her own features were betraying her, her face displaying a large smile and a familiar sparkle in her eyes. "Besides, " she continued nonchalantly while shrugging her shoulders, "I thought this would count as us working on our chemistry." She put emphasis on the word, smirking in Emily's direction.
Emily's mouth fell open, her cheeks threatening to turn red again. She was about to recover with some cheeky remark, but before she could the blonde spoke again.
"Text me." Alison shot her most flirtatious wink before sliding on her sunglasses and Emily could feel her knees giving out.
Without another word, Alison rolled up her window and Emily took a step back allowing the girl to drive off. Emily stood in the almost empty parking lot until Alison's car was out of her sight. After a little while she dragged herself to her own car, resting her head against the steering wheel as soon as she stepped inside. She raised her hand to adjust the mirror, when her eyes flickered toward the ink inside her palm. She felt herself smile involuntarily. She was so screwed.
