"Alright Lee, take them off!" Gai shouted with an exuberant smile, and Lee mirrored his Sensei with an even larger grin. With some shouts of excitement, the younger boy unnotched his weights and let them hit the ground, a cloud of debris puffing into the air and settled, leaving two large craters cradling the weights.
It was stupidly insane.
"What!?" Temari clenched the railing with a gasp, her eyes narrowing.
"This is insane, seeing if for my own eyes..." The periwinkle haired girl grinned almost manically, grabbing the railing with both hands before activating her skill, [Observe]

As a child, he was always looked down upon and made fun of because he was never able to use either Ninjutsu or Genjutsu. When he finally graduated, his sensei saw his potential and trained him solely on Taijutsu.
Due to this, he is a Taijutsu Specialist, although he seems to always have bad luck and fight shinobi who are usually immune to most Taijutsu.
If Tamako was going to be realistic, she would not be able to beat Lee. Maybe she could escape but she would definitely leave the fight scuffed up. His stats were one of the highest she's ever seen, and that's saying a lot because the people around her were either too high leveled that her [Observe] couldn't peek into, or way too weak.
In an instance, Lee traveled across the arena so fast that it seemed as if he flickered over to Gaara. He executed simple kicks, but these kicks left shockwaves that she could feel from all the way at the balcony.
The impact forced Gaara's head to snap to the floor in an almost "un-Gaara" like way. She could see Temari's worried face, a drop of sweat running down her chin as her fists clenched harder against the railing. Tamako grabbed her shoulder and squeezed it. It'll be fine.
"Yes! Lee! Let the power of youth explode!" Gai shouted, his teeth sparkled and did his signature pose.
"Right!" Lee shouted back, his eyes filled with determination. He ran forward and kicked, his leg bending faster, but Tamako could vaguely make out the motion. With quick hand movements, Gaara motioned back and forth, urging his sand to move faster and keep up
"Over here!" He aimed a kick which was blocked.
"No, over here!" Lee ran over to the opposite he was on and landed a solid blow to Gaara's face. Gaara was sent flying a couple feet and met the ground.
Instantly, the genin began to whisper amongst themselves and even Kankuro's smirk was left for a frown. She watched as Gaara slowly got up, sand pouring out of his gourd in a slow grotesque way.
"Uh oh," Kankuro muttered
"Yeah! Uh oh is right! Your friend with eye makeup is getting beaten!" Naruto shouted back, his grin so wide that he had to shut his eyes.
"That isn't what I was talking about kid."
Naruto's face warped into confusion.
Gaara looked down, chunks of sand fell off his face, crumbling onto the ground. He finally looked up, half of his face was cracked sand, he then smiled crazily.
"Gaara..." Tamako whispered quietly. The Ichibi's chakra was leaking out like crazy, and she could tell that every Jounin in the vicinity had their nerves frazzled. Tamako felt cold sweat drip down the back of her shirt, her arms covered in goosebumps despite the warm temperature. Her memories of Gaara were less than stellar. He tried to kill her when she was an academy student. She grabbed her arms and shuddered. That chakra was so volatile. It didn't take a sensor to notice it's negative emotion if she could feel it's intent.
She'd need to raise her sensor skills.
"He's getting more unstable as the chunin exams progressed..." Both opponents stared at each other until Lee started to unwrap his bandages. Then, he ran forward and circled Gaara as if he were wind himself, only blurs of green could be spotted that more or less resembled swirling leaves than a green-spandex boy.
Lee kicked him in the chin, sending Gaara just a foot from the ground, which wasn't high enough. Lee continued to send him rapid attacks until Gaara was at the right place, sky high. He wrapped Gaara in his bandages.
"Take this! Primary Lotus!" Both spun at speeds that made Tamako a bit queasy, and finished off with a crater to the ground. Gaara laid in the center, unmoving. His whole body cracked from the sand.
Everyone else was in disbelief, hell even Tamako was in disbelief. Even though she knew the outcome, it was still an unbelievable sight. She watched as the proctor, Hayate, walked forward and paused when 'Gaara' crumbled away to reveal a sand clone.
Lee panted with his hands on his knees, turning in shock when Gaara reformed his true body. He was unscathed and chuckling madily. With a single sign, sand bursted from his gourd and beamed towards Lee.
Lee was already worn out from the extensive taijutsu move that required too much of his body, and he was sent tumbling down the ground.
Gaara was even more focused than before, and with a wave of his hand as if he were a conductor of an orchestra, a sand tsunami formed to drown Lee.
"Run Lee!" Naruto shouted.
In a span of a couple seconds, Lee was at mercy at Gaara, getting tossed around like a ragdoll. That was then the siblings discretely sighed, their rounded shoulders relaxed.
"It's painful enough to watch, why doesn't he just give up?" Temari finally spoke again after minutes of radio silence, a sadistic look plastered on her face that hid any nervousness she had beforehand.
Suddenly, Lee started to dodge all of Gaara attacks, with a smile on his face. If Tamako strained her ears enough, she could hear Kakashi, Sakura, and Gai talking about the Gates. She knew how they worked, sort of. It wasn't any sort of thing she would be able to achieve, not with much more possibilities rather than being tied down with Taijutsu. It also didn't help that such power came with excruciating amounts of pain and bedrest.
"I don't know what you're planning right now, but this match is over for you." Gaara muttered, glaring at Lee.
"You are right, it is over. One way or another. I am not going to be the only one to lose here!" Chakra started to form around Lee, indicating how thick the concentration was building up to. "The Third Gate, Gate of Life! Open!" Lee's face turned all red and chakra swarmed around him.
What a long fight, what a show of power. The testosterones was reverberating in the room. And youth, she guessed.
"The Fourth Gate! Gate of Pain! Open!" Veins on Lee became more noticeable, and in Tamako's opinion, it basically went DBZ.
Lee took a step forward, cracks forming with each step. With a single dash, Lee caused a massive earthquake that shook the entire stadium, just enough for Tamako to center her chakra at the soles of her feet to ensure she wouldn't get toppled over. Wind and debris pushed against her face at the shockwave and before she knew it, Gaara was launched airborne.
Thousands of cracks developing on his sand armor. Lee kicked Gaara back and forth from the air and to the ground several times, faster than what a normal genin would be able to compute.
"One more and it's over! The Fifth Gate, Gate of Closing! Open!" Lee landed a solid punch on Gaara's solar plexus. Not before grabbing onto Gaara's clothing.
"Hidden Lotus!" Debris blocked everyone's view and Tamako held her breath and moved the front of her shirt over her nose, blocking the dust that had risen up from his motion. Once the dust settled, all that was left was Lee tumbling on the floor and Gaara using his sand to break his own fall.
Gaara raised his hand, sand followed his command and slowly drifted to Lee, who was crawling to get away. The sand wrapped around Lee's arm and leg, Gaara clenching his hand into a fist with no mercy, just pure unadulterated hatred on his face.
"Sand Coffin." Gaara rasped out. Lee screamed in pain before passing out in pain. His arm and leg were shattered and now useless. Gaara, who still wanted to see more, forced his sand to cup around Lee's whole body.
"Now you die." There was this manic grin on his face, he was shaking, trembling even but his eyes stayed incredibly still.
The sand was forced to disperse, revealing Gai.
"But why? He failed?" Gaara rasped, clutching his head.
"Because he's...my student, and also because he's precious to me."
Gaara stood up and gathered his sand into his gourd before walking away.
"I quit."
"The winner is..." Everyone paused. Behind Gai was Lee, who was barely standing with a bleeding arm that limped to his side, as well as his leg that leaned uselessly.
"No Lee. It's all over now, you are in no condition to—ooh Lee...what have I done." Tears shot out of Gai's eyes and dripped onto the ground. "Not even conscience and you still try to show the world what you can do."
"The winner is Suna no Gaara."
"Hmf, I knew he couldn't beat Gaara," Temari said, with a smirk and Kankuro nudged his sister with an elbow.
"If the green guy took of his weights and activated that technique from the beginning…" Tamako trailed off, gaining the attention of the two siblings. "... then it would have played out differently."
Temari's face drained of color, her shoulders trembling at the thought. It wouldn't have ended with just Lee, they would've all been in the crossfire. Kankuro snapped at the prodigy with a huff. "What matters is that Gaara won, and that green brat is done for."
Naruto started to yell out, before being stopped by Kakashi, who was pushed away. Gaara looked back before dispersing into sand and forming next to Temari and Baki.
"Good to have you back, Gaara" Temari smiled, he merely gave her the smallest of glances before turning his attention back to the stadium.
All four Sand Shinobi avoided eye-contact, sweat dripping down their backs.
"Due to the uneven amount of genin participating, the last Genin is Akimichi Choji. He will be against a random remaining genin." Hayate announced. The TV flickered on and Choji was already on, while the other name was shifting though names. Then it stopped.
[Akimichi Chouji VS Tamako]
Tamako hummed, "Me again?" Before standing up straight, jutting her head back and forth and releasing all the pent up energy she had in the form of a few satisfactory pops. Gaara was simply too much at times. Sometimes too deadly, scary and eye-opening. With a single jump, she flew through the air and landed softly against the turned-up ground from the last match. The arena was mostly quiet after the last match, and she stared dead-eye at her next opponent.
"Now, let's begin the tenth match."
"Do your best!" Shikamaru hollored.
"Fatso!" Ino added with a smirk.
A tick mark formed on Choji's forehead. "Damn it! Those two better watch out! I'll end this match quickly and turn you into mincemeat!" Choji shouted, pounding his fist together with motivation.
"Mincemeat? Don't worry, I promise not to put any holes in you." She breathed out with a calm breath, feeling her chakra swarm her body in a comfortable buzz. Last match, as horrifying it was, she was ready.
At the sound of Hayate's go, she sprung forward into the air. Dodging the large fist with a slight jump before landing softly on the enlarged arm with cat-like reflexes. With a few signs, she slammed her palms against the meaty arm and instantly, crystal erupted under her hands and instantly clustered all over Choji, encasing him within seconds.
"Shouton: Jade Crystal Prison!"
With a quick backflip, she avoided the toppling of the Choji who unceremoniously fell to the ground, frozen in time with eyes glazed over. She could feel the signatures of chakra up ahead stuttering, probably nervous that she'll deal with Chouji like she dealt with Dosu. Before she could take a step forward, Hayate took one instead with narrowed eyes. "Winner! Suna no Tamako." Hayate coughed wetly, "Please release the jutsu."
She could tell that Hayate didn't want her to kill the Akimichi her, as he was apart of the four noble clans alongside Hinata. Special treatment she surmises. With a shrug, she slapped her hands together, feeling the pull of chakra and the crystal slowly receded back before completely shattering into fine crushed dust.
"Ugh, what happened?" Choji asked, clutching his head, completely dazed and confused.
"A big target like you makes an easy trapping." She blew crystal dust from her palm into his face, "Next time, think before you lunge. Your Nara teammate won't be here for you all the time."
. . .
"To everyone who has advanced to the Final Round of the third test of the Chunin Exams, there's one person who's missing, but, congratulations," Hayate said, coughing out his lungs in the process.
"Well, I will begin the explanation of the Final Round." Sandaime said, his voice echoing.
There were so many explanations, rules and the whatnot that the Sandaime spoke of. She was going a little stir-crazy, especially when some of the remaining contestants got upset that the third round wouldn't take place until three months later.
"Now, I want you all to calmly take one slip of paper from the box Anko is holding."
Anko walked towards Naruto and let everyone take a piece of paper, ending with Shino.
"Good, everyone has a number! Then, from left to right, tell me the number on your slip of paper."
"One, dattebayo."
"Three."
"Five."
"Eight."
"Ten."
"Seven."
"Six."
"Two."
"Four."
"Then he has nine..." Ibiki muttered, scribbling something down.
"Very well, I will tell you about how the Final Round tournament will work! Now then, Ibiki, bring forth the pairing." Sandaime said, Ibiki turned his clipboard facing in their direction.

With a quick glance at Kankuro, the two nodded at each with silent agreement. To save strength on the day, he'll withdraw to save both their energies for the invasion. It was a solid plan, if not a little suspicious. But it wasn't like Konoha was going to immediately investigate, especially with the on-going Chunin Exams they'll be hosting.
. . .
"A month until these stupid Exams are done. I told you we should take out those Rookies!" Raidon groaned, his hands ruffling his hair, face all scrunched up.
"Shut up Raidon!" Aneko snarled back, equally displeased with the turn of events. "How should've we known that there were too many! I thought it would be the Rookies, us, and Temari's team!" Her voice seemed to shrill as she argued back with equal annoyance.
"Whatever!" Raidon shouted back before continuing, "Can't we go eat already? I haven't eaten good food for days!"
"Shut up Raidon, it takes time looking for a good place to eat."
"You two, shut up for once in your god damn life," Tamako groaned, massaging the pounding headache that wouldn't go away. The duo stayed quiet until an argument broke out about walking.
What the hell had she done to experience this? Was it too late to defect? Who needs a village anyways!
Walking with the duo wasn't pleasant, however, after a few paces forward, she spotted the iconic ramen stand. Sunagakure's cuisine was mostly spiced lentils and the whatnot, so seeing ramen was a bit exciting.
Tamako's fingers twitched and her eyes never strayed far from the stand. "Let's eat here!" Raidon grabbed her hand into the ramen stand. She complied because in all honesty, she could use some fatty pork broth.
"Oji-san, large Miso Ramen with extra char siu." Teuchi nodded before glancing at Raidon.
"Make it two."
Aneko, a little miffed that Raidon hadn't dragged her as well, sat to the right of Tamako before nodding back, "Shoyu, extra garlic."
Teuchi nodded and quickly went to work with Ayame helping.
Aneko leaned against the table, her cheek resting on the wood as she peered up, exhaustion all over her face. "Tamako, we should go to the springs after this, I'm sore in parts I didn't know could be sore. Plus, "She added, sniffing herself, "I'm absolutely filthy."
It wasn't that she disliked her teammates, oh no. She liked them enough to stand around them at the very least. The problem was that the two would argue constantly whenever missions were over and they were on break. It was like they were born to hate each other, or maybe something happened when she wasn't around. But for the first time, Aneko had a good idea.
Pleased with the turn of events, and the hint of reprieve as the two were too occupied with eating than to argue, she acted without any hesitation, nodding at Aneko's words with a small smile. She could use a soak, and inhaled her ramen with a satisfied grin. Maybe she should defect here instead. The broth was piping hot that slipped down her throat, warming her chest and stomach. It was greasy in a way that felt good after eating rations and plain fish, and the pork was so soft that it melted in her mouth.
. . .
The soak in question, was divine. The water was adorably hot, and Konoha women were mostly well endowed so it was also a good eye cleaning from all that green-beast she saw. She settled deeper into the water, bubbles forming when she breathed out with her nose. It felt good. It was nice to see pretty things. This was a good idea.
Aneko settled next to her, her eyes narrowing when she spotted her fellow teammates wandering gaze. "What're you looking at..."
Tamako glanced at her teammate, then back at therapy. "Can't a girl appreciate another girl?" Then she sat up in a more proper position and leaned against the rocks. "Mine are a nice shape and size but I think there's something in Konoha's water."
Her teammate blinked before turning hot red, "W-wait you're into—"
She smacked her teammates head, "Stupid. I said appreciate. I can like whatever I like alright?" Then she smirked, "Though, from all our competitors, I still think I was the prettiest." She giggled, brushing her vain thoughts away. For once, she could joke around in peace. Be… a kid again.
Aneko sighed, agreeing with the smallest of nods, the shouton user was undeniably pretty and Tamako should thank her mother for the looks, before sinking into the water, "Though, that Uchiha boy..." She trailed off with a glazed look, "He was something..."
Tamako blinked and nodded slowly. After being surrounded by guys who looked like Kankuro, it was a breath of fresh-air to see a pretty boy. "Mhm, that Hyuuga too." She brushed her bangs back.
Her teammate nodded. "He had softer-looking hair than me. I wonder how he took care of it during those five-days."
The younger girl stretched out her leg, feeling a tight warm burn that felt good. "Maybe I'll ask him before the exams end."
The two girls talked and gossip like normal girls for once, finally acting their age with boy-gossip and trading secrets of scar removal. It was very unlike Tamako, but, it just felt right. Surrounded by warm water with a clear sky and no eye-biting sand attacking her every nook and cranny, she finally relaxed.
With glazed eyes, she watched her HP and CP rise faster than usual, enjoying the natural restoration buff the spring offered.
After a good hour of soaking, the two left the springs and finally met up with the last teammate. With a blink, Tamako recalled a strange glint she had noticed before blocking it with a bit crystal and then ignoring it out entirely for being too comfortable.
She relayed her thoughts and Aneko immediately got up in arms. "What do you mean there was a pervert!?" She slapped her arms across her chest with a red face, in anger or embarrassment, Tamako will never know.
"What!?" Raidon, turned towards the younger girl and grabbed her shoulders, looking up and down for any signs of danger, "I told you we shouldn't have gone!"
Aneko slapped Raidon, "I was in danger too! You should be angry for me too!" Before she could punt the boy any further, Tamako held a single finger, silencing them.
"It already happened, besides..." She paused, looking at the impossibly blue sky, "I formed dense crystal across the peephole. Whoever it was, they didn't see much." Her teammates paused, confusing entering their faces as they pondered her words..
"But still!" Aneko grabbed her shoulders and shook them back and forth. "I'm only fifteen, and you're even younger!" She grabbed Tamako's face with both palms, "He didn't see anything, right?"
Tamako facepalmed.
"You two are impossible." She shrugged off the older girl's touches and flickered away to a training ground assigned to her team without a word. They'll find her eventually, but for now, she needed some peace and quiet. Enough team-bonding, she needed to train. The last few days she wasn't able to train too much because of the exams taking up most of her chakra, so this month should be perfect.
She glanced around, taking notes of the large trees. She needed a larger clearing, and ventured into the forest. Before long, she noticed pink hair against the verdant environment. It was a little sad to spot the girl so quickly, but what could you do if you were born with such an unfortunate hair color.
Tamako crept closer, curious about what the girl was doing here but clearing her throat to catch the pinkette's attention. "Sakura."
The girl jolted and dropped her kunai, "W-what!?"
She tilted her head, "Hello." She noted the dirt stains across her clothing as well as the target signs almost lathered in stray kunai and shuriken.
"What are you doing here?" Sakura panted, her hands resting on her knees as she caught her breath.
Tamako shrugged, "Public training ground assigned to Suna. What're you doing here?" She raised her eyebrows, didn't Team 7 have their own assigned training ground that the Copy Nin favors? "You're fighting the Aburame, aren't you?" The pinkette slowly nodded. "Then, shouldn't you be training with your sensei?"
Sakura shook her head before replying, "Kakashi-sensei went to train with Sasuke-kun, he left Ebisu-sensei with me and Naruto, but he got knocked out by some old pervert." With a frown, possibly recalling infuriating memories, she raised her fist into the air, "I can't believe that guy is a Jounin..."
Tamako blinked. She changed the outcome of the preliminary rounds, but Kakashi left Sakura to her own devices? Wasn't that a little too... irresponsible? She knew that Sasuke was going up against a deranged twelve year old killer, but wasn't leaving little Sakura a bit much?
She twirled her senbon between her finger with a frown. This girl has a lot to work on. "So, you're training by yourself?"
Sakura nodded with a down-casted sigh and pointed at her handiwork, "Been practicing my aim, though, Ebisu-sensei taught us how to water-walk. It was pretty simple but I don't know if that'll help me fight Shino."
It really wasn't her business, really. She should be focused on changing the future for the better, and Sakura would eventually turn out somewhat okay anyways. It was this nagging feeling at the back of her head that shouted you did this!
Okay, she did cause this but was it really her fault that she miscalculated the Hatake's love for his team? He set up Naruto with Ebisu and eventually Jiraiya but with Ebisu out of commission and Sakura's lack of respect for the guy who Naruto defeated with a perverted Jutsu, she was almost out of luck. Plus, someone like Sakura shouldn't be hanging around with someone like Jiraiya in any case. That man's teachings wouldn't fit her, nor does his skillset.
Note the, almost, Tamako can make things work. Does that mean she'll do it herself? No. Konoha should take care of Konoha, it was that simple.
Then a fear spikes through her, what if she killed Sakura? Who would save Kankuro? Who would save Chiyo who saves Gaara?
The training field was dead silent as these thoughts ran rampant through Tamako's head, her anxiety off the charts and she thought of every single bad thing that would happen if Sakura died. Shippuden would be so fucked.
Then, she let out a loud sigh. "You really were given the short-end of the stick, weren't you?" Then she crouched low, drawing little images with a stick onto the dirt floor. "Since Hatake is out, and so is your "Ebisu-sensei", that leaves..." She wrote their names and crossed them out. Then into another column, began listing every single competent Jounin that Konoha had to offer, withholding obvious ones like Shibi Aburame and so-on so forth.
Might Guy, maybe Shikaku Nara? Asuma Sarutobi, Iruka Umino, Inoichi Yamanaka? Kurenai Yuhi, Genma Shiranui, Hayate Gekko, Anko Mitarashi, Ibiki Morino, Tsume Inuzuka, Aoba Yamashiro, Izumo Kamizuki and Kotetsu Hagane.
Nodding at her list, she turned towards the enraptured Sakura, "Might Guy might be busy with his now disabled student, but he may be available to help you train your body." Then she pointed at the rest of the list, "Shikaku Nara is the Jounin Commander, he might be busy but since his son— right. He's fighting Temari. Well, maybe after the exams, he might find your intellect to be interesting." She pointed at the Chunins she circled, "These are your best chances. I heard from Naruto that Iruka Umino was your Academy sensei, he would be a guarantee, but you should only think of him as your last-resort." Then she underlined Izumo Kamizuki and Kotetsu, "They would be a good fit for you to figure out what sorts of weapons you might like. Or, help you train by battling the two at the same time. It'll simulate what it feels to fight Shino and his insects." Then smirking, "Genma Shiranui would also be a good choice, with Asuma Sarutobi and Kurenai Yuhi being maybe since they both have a student in the exams. Mitarashi is a little insane, but she's skilled. Aoba Yamashiro might not be too interested, but he's good at what he does."
With her stick, she circled the names Genma Shiranui, Izumo Kamizuki and Kotetsu Hagane. "They would benefit you the most."
Sakura mumbled the names and turned towards Tamako, "Why are you helping me? And..." She trailed off, eyes trailing at each name, "How do you know all of these shinobi?"
Without any hesitation, Tamako pulled out her beloved Bingo Book, one where she combined every single village's Bingo Book into one. She was proud of this pet project on a boring Suna Sunday. "Nothing beats information." Waving the black book between her fingers with a grin, "I've memorized every high-profiled chunin, jounin and kage for future reference. You never know what you'll see, and see did I do." Flipping through her book before landing on the Konoha section, she pointed at Kakashi Hatake. "Your sensei has a bounty of sixty-five million ryo. He's pretty cool, and really strong." Then she sighed, "It's a shame that your sensei isn't doing anything sensei-ing with you, though."
At Sakura's gaping, she figured that no one on Team 7 really figured out how high-profiled their lazy sensei was. Then shrugging, "I bet you could convince Shiranui pretty quickly if you mentioned that Hatake's pretty much fucked off with your Uchiha teammate. Maybe mentioned how your Ebisu-sensei was taken down. As for Izumo and Kotetsu, a little white lie wont hurt. Mention that Hatake thought their weaponry is impressive enough that little you was a bit interested." She slapped her Bingo Book shut and slid it behind her haori. "Men love it when you stroke their egos."
Sakura spluttered at her wording, turning a little red despite the dirt staining her cheeks. "T-thats..."
"A kunoichi should use all of her available resources. Especially in this Shinobi World." Tamako sighed, finally standing up and stretching her legs, "This world is filled with powerful men and not a lot of powerful women." Then, she crossed her arms, "You better have a good show against that Aburame, don't you know that out of the ten genin that passed the preliminaries, only three are girls? That's not even half."
The pinkette nodded, "That's right. Only one-third of the shinobi's work-force are women." With a finger at her chin, she continued, "Both Tenten, Hinata, Ino and I are in a group with two male teammates. Kurenai-sensei is the only female instructor." Then she frowned, "Isn't your team balanced? I mean, with Aneko and Raidon."
Tamako paused, agreeing with her words, "It's because I'm exceptional. Otherwise, I'd probably be placed in a mostly-male four-unit cell to make up for my lack of physical "strength." Not that Temari isn't strong, she just has to be in a unit with her brothers."
Then with another sigh, Tamako glanced at the larger-than-life trees, its branches blocking most of the sunlight keeping the forest cool and slightly damp. "I should get going. My team is probably looking for me." With a grin, she added cheekily, "At least your team isn't so hard on the eyes."
At Sakura's spluttering, she waved and jumped high into the trees, "Don't forget! If you wanna look cool, you gotta train with equally cool people!" Then flickered away. She filed away the look Sakura gave her, chuckling, "Ahh, youth."
