Aenar and Aegon flew to Oldtown the very next day, and their presence brought nothing but panic. Most assumed that with the killer being a Septa, the Prince of Harrenhal had decided that the faith itself should be punished for what it had done to his son.
To all their relief, nothing of the sort had happened. But the King, his brother, the High Septon, the Most Devout and Lord Manfred had spent hours behind closed doors. And it was not until the High Septon and the Most Devout came out and addressed the public that anybody had any idea about what they had discussed.
"The Faith of The Seven was born in Andalos of Old!" the High Septon spoke to the gathered mass, "where the laws laid down by the Seven in the holy texts decree that incest is an abomination! But… the Targaryens are not like us, not like those who migrated from Andalos to Westeros! They ride Dragons! And they are the only ones to do so since the Doom of Valyria. If the Gods had not favoured them, they would have died alongside the rest of the Valyrian Dragonlords! They were chosen by the Gods to be their champions! And as such, their traditions and beliefs are not for men like us to judge."
The gathered mass murmured amongst themselves.
"The Valyrian tradition of Brother wedding Sister and that of the right women who ride Dragons to lead have been deemed as just by the Most Devout and I, the High Septon who speaks for the Gods. The champions of the Gods must make certain that the gift that they were given remains strong for generations to come, so that one day the Gods may use their champions to lead our people against any darkness that threatens to swallow us whole!"
The mass cheered the decision, hailing Aegon, cheering the name of the Targaryens with full earnestness. Aegon and Aenar left Oldtown the next day, and with them left ravens for every castle big and small carrying what would be known as the Doctrine of Exceptionalism.
Once the deed with Oldtown was finished, the three heads of the dragon and their wings (as the people had begun calling Aenar) began their work on truly tying the Seven Kingdoms into one. There were many marriages brokered to work out peace between rivalling houses (done by Visenya, Rhaenys and Gwyn on the Queen's invites), children of lords were sent to court where the sons served as pages, cupbearers, and squires while the daughters as handmaidens and companions of the Queens and Lady of Harrenhal.
The Aegonfort, now a structure of mortar and stone was progressing faster than anyone imagined, even Harrenhal was brought back to its former glory and the city around Aegonfort was looking as fine and well-planned as Oldtown or Lannisport. All credited the builders of Qohor for this, while none suspected that there could be more to this than just Qohori building mystery.
By the time the arrangements of the grand tourney to choose the Kingsguards had rolled out in full earnest, Aegonfort was by all means halfway finished. It grew around the Iron Throne, a chair Aegon made from the surrendered swords and dragon fire with the help of the Qohori smiths. Aenar made a point that the Iron Throne did not look like a comfortable place to sit and should be less sharp. Aegon pointed out that the throne should not be a comfortable place to sit, and that the King should always remain vigilant when hearing the pleas of his people. Aenar could not argue on that.
Sometime at the end of 6 AC the tourney to choose the Kingsguard was arranged. Aegon, Visenya and Aenar were the judges of these skilled swords (Rhaenys was heavily pregnant at this time and Gwyn wished to be in her company and help her during these times). Aegon was the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, so he would have seven protectors, decided Visenya and was supported by Aenar and Rhaenys. Visenya had modelled the vows for this brotherhood of protectors herself, modelling them after the vows of the Night's Watch. The White Swords (Rhaenys insisted on this name) would serve for life, surrendering all their lands, titles, and worldly good to live a life of chastity and obedience, with no reward but honour.
Knights from all across the continent came to take part in this tourney, to offer their lives to the cause. The tourney only brought out the best of the swords amongst the gathered. But the final seven would be chosen by the three gathered to judge them. Visenya insisted that the winners only should not be the ones chosen and that they should look closer into them. The looking part fell on Visenya and Aenar with their less than 'holy' means.
The knights chosen were young and old, tall and short, rich and poor. Some were the heirs of houses who'd given up their inheritance to serve the King, younger sons, hedge knights and bastards.
Ser Robin Darklyn was chosen as the first of the brotherhood and as their Lord Commander. The rest were the Goode brothers Ser Gregor and Ser Griffith, Ser Humfrey a Hedge Knight, Ser Addison Hill a bastard of Cornfield, sired by the Lord of House Swyft, Ser Richard Roote and Ser Gylan Rivers of Stone Hedge, sired by the Lord of House Bracken.
The seven took their vows before the king in front of the yet-to-be-completed Aegonfort. Aenar had put the White Cloak on them each with his own hands and gifted them each a set of Valyrian Steel Armour and a Valyrian Steel weapon of their choice. It was a decision made by Rhaenys and Visenya after Gwyn had pointed out to them that the Seven that Protected the King should be equipped with the best weapons known to man.
With the Kingsguard finally put up, the attention shifted to the King's Council, or as the people began to call it, the Small Council.
The Voices of the Queens came after that of the King's, sometimes even above the King in matters they were better equipped to handle. After those three came that of Lord Orys Baratheon of Strom's End. The man proved to be just as much a wise voice as he was a violent sword. Then came Grand Maester Lyonce, a more robust Maester than his predecessor Maester Ollidar. He was still new. Lord Crispian Celtigar served as the Master of Coin. The first change came in the position of Master of Laws, where Aenar was installed after the tragic death of Lord Triston Massey to a loose bowel. Lord Aethan Velaryon had taken the position of Master of Ships and Lord Admiral of the King's Fleet officially, after serving in that capacity unofficially after the death of his father in the war of conquest. Ser Robin Darklyn also found himself a seat in the Small Council.
With the Kingsguard chosen and certain positions in the Small Council being established officially, the King, Queens and their men put their full attention into tending to all seven kingdoms of the realm.
Nearing the start of the new year, Queen Rhaenys was taken to the birthing bed and gave birth to a son that she named Aenys (Aenar cackled at how she combined hers and Aegon's name for their son, much to the pouting of his sister).
Visenya took to the birthing bed in 12 AC, after much speculations were made regarding the Queen's ability to produce children (something that hurt Visenya deeply considering how she loved children and secretly always wished to be a mother).
And in between in 9 AC Aenar and Gwyn were given a second chance at being parents when Gwyn took to the birthing bed and birthed a daughter that they named Faeyn.
