As Anakin strolled away, he couldn't help but smile at the situation. Despite the bizarre turn of events, the sight of Ahsoka covered in paint and giggling brought a lightness to his heart that had been missing for a long time.
The hangar bay loomed ahead, a hive of activity as clones prepared the ship for departure. Anakin knew he had to focus on the mission at hand, but his thoughts kept drifting back to Ahsoka. She had always been his responsibility, his Padawan, and seeing her now in such a vulnerable state reignited his protective instincts.
The ship's engines roared to life, and Anakin made his way to the bridge. He needed to review the latest intelligence reports on the device that had caused Ahsoka's regression. As he entered, he was greeted by Captain Rex, who handed him a datapad.
"General, we've compiled the latest findings from our scouts," Rex reported, his tone all business now.
"Thanks, Rex," Anakin replied, skimming through the data. "Any leads on who could've planted the device?"
"None so far, sir. But our intel suggests it might be a prototype weapon the Separatists are testing. We're still trying to determine its origin."
Anakin frowned, the gravity of the situation pressing on him. "We need to find out more, and fast. Ahsoka's safety—and the safety of others—depends on it."
"Understood, sir," Rex nodded. "We'll keep digging."
Anakin's mind raced. He had to balance the immediate need to care for Ahsoka with the long-term goal of neutralizing the threat. As the ship lifted off, he made a decision. "Rex, when we land for refueling, make sure Kix and Fives have everything they need for Ahsoka. And see if you can get in touch with Master Plo Koon. He might have some insights on handling this situation."
Rex saluted, already making a mental note of the orders. "Yes, General."
As the ship soared through hyperspace, Anakin took a moment to close his eyes and reach out through the Force, seeking calm and clarity. He could sense Ahsoka's presence, a bright and youthful energy that stood out amidst the chaos. It was a reminder of what they were fighting for—not just victory in the war, but the safety and future of those they cared about.
The journey to the refueling station was brief, and as they landed, Anakin prepared to disembark. Rex, Fives, and Kix were already waiting with Ahsoka, who was now clean and clad in a makeshift outfit. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity as she looked around the bustling hangar.
"Alright, men," Anakin said, stepping down the ramp. "You know your assignments. Fives, get that activity chart ready. Rex, Kix, take Ahsoka shopping and make sure she has everything she needs."
"Yes, sir," they chorused, their earlier reluctance now overshadowed by determination.
Anakin watched as they led Ahsoka towards the marketplace. He couldn't help but feel a pang of longing—Padmé's words echoed in his mind, reminding him of their conversation. She had faith in him, and he had to live up to that faith.
Turning back to the ship, Anakin prepared for his meeting with Obi-Wan. There was much to discuss and even more to plan. But for now, knowing that Ahsoka was in good hands, he could focus on the task at hand.
As he boarded the ship again, his comm beeped. It was Obi-Wan. "Anakin, I hope you're ready. We have much to discuss."
"Always, Master," Anakin replied, a hint of a smile in his voice. "Let's get to work."
The ship's door closed behind him, sealing the world outside. For now, they were safe. And that was enough to keep him going.
Rex and Kix exchanged uneasy glances as they led Ahsoka through the bustling marketplace. The vibrant array of stalls, each overflowing with clothes and accessories, felt overwhelming. Ahsoka, her childlike curiosity piqued, darted from one display to another, her eyes wide with wonder.
"So, where do we start?" Kix muttered, scratching his head as he scanned the rows of garments.
"How should I know?" Rex replied, trying to keep an eye on Ahsoka, who had taken a particular interest in a colorful array of scarves. "We've never done this before."
"Well, we need to figure it out," Kix said, determination edging his voice. "We can't bring her back to the General with nothing."
They approached a stall overflowing with clothes. The merchant, a cheerful Twi'lek woman, greeted them with a bright smile. "Looking for something special today?"
Rex and Kix exchanged another glance, then Rex stepped forward. "We need clothes for her," he said, gesturing to Ahsoka, who was now attempting to drape herself in three different scarves at once.
The merchant chuckled, her eyes twinkling. "I see! Well, you've come to the right place. Any particular style or occasion?"
"Uh, just... clothes," Kix stammered, feeling increasingly out of his depth.
The Twi'lek nodded and chuckled, an understanding smile on her face, she was clearly used to dealing with clueless customers. "Let's start with some basics, shall we?"
As she began pulling various garments from the racks, Ahsoka wriggled out of the scarves and approached a display of hats. She placed a large floppy sunhat on her head and grinned up at Rex and Kix.
"Look, Rexy!" she grinned, striking a pose as the hat flopped right over her eyes
Rex couldn't help but chuckle. "That's great, Ahsoka. But maybe we should find something a bit more practical."
Ahsoka pouted for a moment but quickly became distracted by a nearby display of shoes. She picked up a pair of bright pink boots and held them up for Kix to see. "Oooh pretty!"
Kix, trying to hide his bemusement, took the boots from her and handed them to the merchant. "We'll take these, and whatever else you think would be good."
The Twi'lek, clearly enjoying the situation, selected a variety of outfits for Ahsoka to try on. As she disappeared into the changing area, Rex and Kix waited awkwardly, unsure of what to do with themselves.
"This is ridiculous," Rex muttered. "We should be out there gathering intel, not playing dress-up."
Kix nodded in agreement. "But it's what the General ordered. And you saw how happy she is. It's worth it."
Their conversation was interrupted by Ahsoka's voice from the changing room. "Rex, Kix! Look at this one!"
She emerged wearing a frilly pink dress, her face lit up with a mixture of pride and excitement. Rex and Kix exchanged wide-eyed looks, clearly at a loss for words.
"Uh, Ahsoka," Rex began cautiously, "maybe something a little less... frilly?"
Ahsoka frowned, her lower lip trembling. "But I like it."
The Twi'lek merchant, sensing their predicament, stepped in. "How about we find something that's both practical and pretty? Would you like that, dear?"
Ahsoka nodded eagerly, her frown disappearing as quickly as it had appeared. The Twi'lek selected a simple yet stylish tunic and leggings set, which Ahsoka agreed to try on.
When she reappeared, Rex and Kix visibly relaxed. The outfit was comfortable and functional, and Ahsoka seemed happy with it.
"Much better," Rex said, relieved. "We'll take that one, and a few more like it."
As they paid for the clothes, the merchant smiled warmly at them. "You two are doing a great job. It's not easy shopping for a youngling, but you're handling it well."
"Thanks," Kix replied, grateful for the reassurance. "We'll take all the help we can get."
With their purchases in hand, they made their way back to the ship. Ahsoka skipped happily beside them, clutching her new boots and chattering excitedly about her new outfits.
As they approached the ramp, Fives appeared, grinning from ear to ear. "How'd the shopping trip go?"
Rex rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a smile. "Let's just say it's not a mission I'd want to repeat anytime soon."
Kix laughed, patting Ahsoka on the head. "But it was worth it."
Anakin met them at the entrance, taking in the sight of Ahsoka's new outfit and the bags of clothes they carried. "Good job, men. Looks like you managed just fine."
"Thanks, General," Rex replied. "But next time, maybe give us a heads-up?"
Anakin chuckled. "Duly noted. Now, let's get ready for the next leg of our journey. We've got a lot of work ahead of us."
As they prepared to take off, Rex and Kix couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. They might not have been experts in shopping, but they'd managed to bring a little bit of joy to Ahsoka's day. And in the midst of the chaos of war, that was no small victory.
