Percy dove through the portal, crashing hard on the tile floor. His heart throbbed violently in his chest. Percy lifted his head slightly to look back at the blue portal he just came through. He paused for a few agonizing seconds, his chest heaving as he waited anxiously. Nothing came out of it, No Mr. Willis, no tongue, and no Jared. The portal shut. Percy let out a sigh with a mix of relief and regret.
"You're early for once." A voice said, slicing through Percy's thoughts. His neck snapped in the direction of the voice. His eyes lay upon Hera and a man sitting at a table across from each other.
"Welcome back," Hera said. A small smile appeared on her face. Percy let out a breath, and his anxiety melted away. He flung himself up and jumped into his mother's arms. Hera hugged him tightly and slowly rocked him back and forth. After a couple of seconds, Hera pulled him off and stared at him intently. Percy looked around nervously as he waited under her piercing gaze. A few moments passed before her eyes widened. She placed he hand over a small cut that rested on his forehead.
"Where is this from?" She asked. Percy winced as she placed her hand on the fresh wound. He gulped and scratched the back of his neck.
"I..uh-fell," He said. After a couple of seconds under the intense gaze of Hera, Percy broke into a nervous smile. Hera took her hand from his cut and further narrowed her eyes.
"Wait..." She murmured.
"What's this?" She asked, lifting his arm where it showed his arm sleeve caked with dust. She leaned her head back and began to analyze Percy from head to toe. As she noted the small imperfections of Percy's outfit, Her eyes slowly began to widen. Realization crept onto her face.
"WAIT...were you fighting back there?" She asked, staring at Percy's disheveled. Percy gulped. He didn't want his mom to know about the shenanigans leading to his leap through the portal. She was, unfortunately, catching on. He bit his lip nervously and glanced at the blank wall where the portal once was.
"Er, no...the hallway leading up to the portal was dusty," Percy said. Hera stared, still tentative to believe. Before she could pry for more, the man next to Hera cleared his throat.
"OH!" Hera said. She moved her hand and pointed to an empty seat next to her.
"Sit." She ordered. Percy removed himself from her grasp and shuffled in his seat. He stuffed his hand in his pocket and nervously fingered the pen that rested in there. There were a couple of seconds of silence. Percy swallowed. After a few moments of silence, Hera finally spoke up.
"This, " Hera said, gesturing across the table.
"Is your father" She continued. There was a pause. Percy turned to Hera. Then swiveled his head to the man. Silence hung through the air for the time he stared at the 2. He knew about the Greek gods and knew he was different from other kids. The first 2 should have been a given, considering his mom was Hera. But he always wondered who his father was. I mean was it Zeus? The Pompous Olympian leader? Was it a mortal? Some other immortal entity? But here he was...sitting in front of him. For most of his life, he was at the academy. Being told that he was being hidden. He never felt a hole in his heart cause he was never in a normal situation. These thoughts flashed through his head as he stared at his dad. He didn't look like a god. He looked kinda corny actually. The sunglasses and the leather jacket were a bit too much for Percy.
He stood up suddenly, holding his hand out.
"Theos," He said. Percy stared at his hand for a couple of seconds before reaching out and clasping his hand. Firm, rough. I wouldn't be surprised if he rides motorcycles for the fun of it.
"Percy." He responded and shook Theos's hand.
"So...why am I here?" Percy asked, letting go of Theos's hand and turning to Hera.
"Well...ask your father," she says, gesturing to Theos again. Percy turned to a smirking Theos.
"You'll be coming with me." He said leaning forward with his hands clamped on the table. Percy paused for a couple of seconds. Registering what he just heard. He then chuckled
"Yeah, no," Percy said, leaning back and shaking his head furiously. A look of confusion appeared on Theos's face.
"It's your 13th birthday, right?" He asked, frowning. Hera let out a sigh and nodded.
"Yes, it is. He's all yours." She said. Percy turned to Hera, a perplexed expression on his face.
"You pulled me from the school just to go with this random guy I met 2 minutes ago?" Percy said. He scoffed humorlessly, then faced forward and shook his head. Theos feigned a look of surprise.
"You're mad 'cause you're not in school right now?" He said. Percy stayed silent. He ignored Theos. Theos's anger flared. Percy instead looked at his mom
"I have to go back to the Academy." He said. He pressed his hand firmly on the table and stood. Theos scoffed.
"Academy!? You're here bitching 'cause you can't go back and learn calculus?" He asked. He had a crazy expression on his face. As if the absurdity of the situation humored him and enraged him at the same time. This enraged Percy. He gritted his teeth, clenching his jaw tightly. Theos chuckled and opened his hand. Across the table, a dark purple portal appeared, and he stood up. Theos then reached out his hand
"Let's go," He said.
"We have work to do." Theos added. A pit in Percy's stomach formed. A pit of anger. He mugged Theos. Percy didn't have time for this shit, for this meet and greet. He wasn't leaving with this dipshit. When Hera said leaving, he thought it was going to be going on adventures part-time or something, He didn't think it would be a PERMANENT leave to another world. Jared needed him back, and back quickly, he won't be abandoning him like this.
"Fuck off," he said. And turned towards the other side of the room. Theos laughed.
"A moody one isn't he?" He said. He grabbed Percy's wrist but was met with a fierce jerk from Percy. Theos then succeeded at grabbing his wrist, but Percy was having none of it, he bared his teeth and chomped down on Theos's hand. Now it was Theos's turn to jerk his hand back, where a look with a mix of shock, and anger appeared on his face. He furrowed his brow, and then violently grabbed Percy's shirt. Hera stepped out of her seat to split the scuffle up, but by then Percy had already been flung through the portal and sent hurtling through darkness.
Location change: Camp Half-blood
Camp half-blood was buzzing as usual. It was a beautiful day, as the sun generously shone on the large camp area. The campers lounged outside, enjoying the great weather. Apollo kids were playing their music, and the Hermes kids were on the sand beach, playing an intense game of volleyball. The Aphrodite and Demeter kids were swimming in the lake, and the Ares children were polishing their weapons. Chiron trotted on the freshly trimmed grass, observing it all. He sipped on his Pepsi and let out a breath. The camp looked great. Summer just started, things we're getting back into the swing. He strolled past the archery range, the sword fighting zone, and the cabins to make his way to the big house.
"Now we have to get to the depressing stuff" He muttered.
Chiron swung open the big house door and made his way inside. He climbed the stairs and entered the dark room. He trotted to the center of the room, placing the Pepsi can on the pool table. Chiron glanced up. His eyes landed on the jaguar head that hung on the wall. He let out a small smile. Chiron's eyes quickly glazed over the jaguar and his smile morphed into a pained expression. As if he remembered something unpleasant. He finally dropped his head and rubbed his fingers on his skull, massaging his brain. Chiron took another deep breath
"I'm here!" He yelled in the middle of the room. Instantly, a lightning bolt shot out of the sky, fiercely approaching Chiron at blinding speed. The bolt Struck Chiron, encasing him in light electric energy. Chiron stood, unfazed by the power surrounding him. He looked more annoyed if anything. The light got additionally extreme, as the soft hum of electricity morphed into a ferocious roar, complimented by the intense crackle. Abruptly, the room was calm, and the light faded. The ashes from the big room cleared and revealed the scene that followed the lightning strike. An empty room.
Line Break
Chiron appeared at mount Olympus, in front of the gathered gods who were sitting in their respective thrones. Chiron trotted forward and did a small bow
"Hello, Chiron" Zeus started, his voice echoing throughout the throne room.
"You called us?" He asked. Chiron bowed once more
"Yes, I did my lord. I needed to update you on our pursuit of Luke." He said. Zeus rubbed his chin. Stroking the hairs on his neatly trimmed beard.
"Don't we have a scheduled meeting for that? Every...Thursday I think?" Zeus asked. He looked around and the council murmured in agreement. Chiron swallowed. He swished his tail around nervously.
"Yes but this is more..urgent my lord," he said tentatively. Zeus leaned forward and put his hands in an A.
"What do you mean by that?" Zeus asked slowly.
"War?" Ares spoke up. He suddenly seemed interested in the topic. He received a look from the majority of the gods.
"Shut the fuck up Ares." Artemis hissed.
"Not quite Ares my lord," Chiron said. Ares slumped down, a bit disappointed. Zeus let out a sigh and rubbed his temples.
"What is it then?" He asked. Chiron grimaced. Zeus looked a bit exhausted from this affair. Chiron bit his inner lip. His eyes darted around the throne room. Each god was staring at him intently. Waiting for a response.
"Let's just say, This search for Luke got a lot more complicated."
Line Break
Percy hurtled through the darkness. He never liked going through portals. The dark and cold interior wasn't a comfortable journey. It felt like the interior was grasping at Percy. Like the cold was trying to suck him in. The journey always felt a bit longer than the step or 2 that it took to get to the other side. So Percy definitely didn't appreciate being flung through the portal by an unidentified immortal being, that happened to be HIS FATHER. But since it was faster than the step it took to get to the other side, it made the unsatisfying journey through space, Just a bit better. For the second time in the past 3 hours, He crashed on the floor. This time, it involved a bit more pain. His chin collided with the ground violently, and his body followed quickly after. Percy let out a groan of pain. He flipped onto his back and scrunched his eyes shut in an effort to catch his breath. Once the pain subsided, He slowly opened his eyes. That's where he caught the gaze of Theos walking out of the portal. Percy's stomach flipped. His anger began to rise back up. Percy pushed himself off the floor and stood in front of Theos ignoring his sore body. He stared up into his eyes of Theos, anger rippling across his face. Theos raised an eyebrow at Percy's furious determination. A sly smile appeared on his face. He stepped past Percy. A stench of leather engulfed him. Stoking the flames in the pit of his stomach.
"Welcome." Theos said raising his arms high in the air. He tilted his head up and scanned the surroundings in an overtly dramatic fashion. Percy's anger dipped down. He followed Theos's gaze, who was looking intently at the place around him. It was a small training room. Encased completely by this sort of tile, concrete, material. Percy looked around in a mix of confusion, and awe.
"You like it eh?" Theos asked. Percy looked at The os. His face of awe quickly turned into annoyance. Theos was wearing that same sly smile again. Percy masked his awestruck feeling.
"What am I doing here?" Percy asked. His tone shifted, revealing a bitter edge. Theos began to walk to Percy.
"A bit of training," Theos muttered. Percy's eyebrow raised slightly.
"What do you mean by that?" He said. Theos's eyes shifted from Percy's. He glanced back at the tile-covered room. Percy narrowed his eyes. Theos let out a deep breath.
"You'll be training with me." He said. He turned to Percy and then grinned. Percy didn't return the gesture. He decided to send a scowl to Theos instead. Theos seemed unaffected and turned to stroll into the tile-covered room. After a couple of steps, He froze. He turned to Percy and beckoned him forward.
"Come on." Theos said. Percy wanted to stand there defiantly, but he was too exhausted to be stubborn any longer. Percy reluctantly followed Theos through the strange room. Theos stopped in the center of it. He raised his arms triumphantly and grinned. Percy trailed behind Theos moodily and stopped next to him.
"THIS!" Theos started with his arms still raised.
"Is the training room." He finished, staring gleefully at the ever-so-strange tile textures. Percy's eyes darted around the training arena.
"What is this stuff?" He asked, Bending down and touching one of the tiles that encased the entire room. Theos smiled and looked at Percy.
"Watch this." He said and he pointed his hand to the wall. Before Percy could blink, a black orb erupted from Theos's hand and sped towards the Training room wall at blinding speed. It made direct contact with the wall and crashed forcefully into it. The wall exploded on impact, bits of tile concrete exploded from the wall and spewed in all directions. A cloud of dust blocked the impact site. As the dust dissipated, it revealed a huge crater in the former tile wall.
"Wait for it," Theos muttered. As soon as he said that, the concrete crumbled. It's hard to describe what happened next, But the crater in the wall just disappeared. First, there was a faint, translucent blue image that covered the crater. It almost looked like an outline of what the wall looked like before the energy orb made contact. The sides of the hole then closed in on themselves. In a matter of seconds, the hole completely disappeared.
Percy's jaw drooped open a bit. The same sly smile appeared on Theos's lips. He walked past Percy and out of the training room door.
"Follow me." He called. Percy took a glance at the wall. Perfect. From what Percy could tell, not a scratch. He glanced back to Theos who was disappearing down the training corridor. Percy took one last look, before jogging after Theos.
"What's next?" Percy asked when he finally caught up. Theos stopped. He then gestured to a door on the right. Percy peeked past Theos and saw a small room. On the left, there was a large bookcase stocked full of books. Next to it was a small rocking chair. Once again, Percy's face dropped in awe. These books were magnificent. He stepped past Theos. The fresh woodsmoke smell wafted through the room. Percy stepped towards the bookshelf. Enamored by the literature. He slowly lifted his hand to touch one. A purple one with a gold script. Before he could touch it, Theos cleared his throat. The sound broke Percy's trance. He looked back at Theos who was leaning on the door frame.
"I wouldn't touch that if I were you." He said. Percy lowered his outstretched hand, dumbstruck. Theos shrugged, turned, and beckoned Percy.
"C'mon," Theos said.
"We still got some more rooms to see."
Line Break
The next 30 minutes was a complete tour of this mysterious house. It wasn't a mansion. But for Percy, a guy who had been living in a dorm for a good chunk of his life, It sure felt like it. There was a room covered with an assortment of weapons. Swords, Axes, and Shields hung from the wall. There was also a small brown pouch that hung next to it. Percy didn't know if they were for use or decoration. Theos also showed him his room. In contrast to the entire house, The room Percy was in looked relatively modern. The house was made of reddish oak as if it were handmade entirely. The room instead was covered in wallpaper and had a desk that looked like something you'd see at an Ikea. Next to the desk was a bed, covered in a huge red, fluffy comforter. Right in the middle of the bed lay a dark yellow book. After a 3-second tour of the room, Theos decided to show Percy 1 more area
"I got one more place to show you." He called.
"Come on."
Percy looked away from the book and back to Theos, who was already walking out of the room. Percy quickly pursued.
"Where are we going?" He asked as he trailed behind Theos.
"Out. I got a little backyard area." Theos said as he walked down the long corridor. As he said that, They took a left turn. 2 large, red double doors came into view with the turn, and Theos continued his stroll outside. Percy followed. He was curious about what was entailed on the other side. A dragon? A fire? Maybe a portal home? They reached the doors. Theos grabbed the handle. He twisted and pushed it open. The door groaned as it opened and while pushing the first one, Theos grabbed the handle to the second door. He pushed again. Again, a loud groaning noise sprung from the door. The light that crept through the door crack slowly expanded as Theos pushed it open. Finally, The 2 doors opened completely, Revealing the stormy gray sky. Percy gazed at it.
"You said...we were going to your home planet. This looks a lot like earth." He said. Theos walked out of the door, and onto the wet grass outside of the house. Percy followed.
"Yeah, I know," Theos said. Percy tailed behind him onto the wet grass. He grunted in discomfort as the moisture sunk into his feet. Percy stopped in his tracks and distastefully looked down at the ground in a form of distaste. When he looked back up, He saw Theos sitting. That's when Percy realized. The house rested on a mountain. He gazed at the ground and saw the grass slowly shift into a rocky terrain as he looked closer to the edge
"I didn't know we were overlooking a cliff." He muttered. Theos walked near the edge and plopped down. Letting his feet spread in front of him. He looked back at Percy
"C'mon." He said. Beckoning Percy to sit next to him. Percy obliged and tentatively guided his way to the cliff edge. He slowly sat down next to Theos and squinted at the scene below him. It looked like a village below them, with stone roads surrounded by small pop-up shops and people loitering around. Shopping, traveling, or just walking around. Small lanterns hung on the shops, illuminating the roads. Theos spread his hands wide, gesturing towards.
"This is my kingdom." He said. Percy's eyes widened.
"What!? You're a king?" Percy exclaimed. He wore a look of shock on his face. Theos looked at Percy. A small smile appeared on his face.
"Nah-well-kinda. I own this little area." Theos said gesturing to the village area under them. Percy's mouth hung slightly ajar.
"So you're a king?" He asked. Theos chuckled.
"In actuality, I'm a small fish compared to the other guys." He flung his arm north absentmindedly as he said that. They sat in silence for a bit, gazing at the flickering lights below them. After about 30 seconds, Percy spoke up.
"This is what you wanted to show me?" He asked. Theos nodded
"Yeah, this is pretty much it I guess." He said.
"Any questions?" He added. Percy shook his head and Theos grinned. He stretched and then stood.
"I'll head inside, I'm a little tired." He said with a yawn.
"I suggest you do the same, you got a long day tomorrow." Theos added. Percy looked up at him. A bit confused and even a little scared.
"What do I have?" He asked. Again, a sly smile appeared on Theos's face.
"Training, training begins tomorrow."
