It was dark and the storm rages on. Two silhouette could be seen running through the coastal forest as the heavy rain fall down to the earth without mercy. Their feets made squishing sounds as they ran through the muddy forest plain. The both of them showed no possible sign of slowing down. They continued to run like their lives depends on it.
The only male of the two skid to a stop abruptly causing the other to do the same in surprise. He brown hair fall flat on his head with his clothes completely drenched, he took off his glasses and wiped it off with the sleeve of his shirt. He looked back the way they came, his heart beating hard against his chest with adrenaline still pumping through his veins, he greedily take in a large amount oxygen before he turned back to face his companion who had a fear filled expression on her face, she looked like she was about to spit out her heart. How can he blame her when he felt the same way.
"Reyes we have to go back"
"WHAT?" The now named Reyes stared at him like he was insane. Her hair was messy and unkept, she looked like she had been running for days nonstop. Her breathing was rigid and she couldn't help but continue to wish that this is all a dream and that any moment from now she'd wake up to see her daughter again but alas it was not.
"Naruto's still back there" he reasoned.
"Like hell I care Alex" She groaned not caring about anyone at the moment.
Alex stared at her in disbelief wondering if this was the Reyes that he had been traveling with for the past few weeks.
"And why shouldn't you care, he's our friend after all". Alex spat back at her starting to get fed up with the whole situation.
"Is it so easy for you to abandon others just for you to survive"
"YES!" Reyes shouted in the heat of passion causing him to take a step back in surprise.
"What?"
"You heard me, if you wanna go back then go...am out of here" with her piece said she turned her back on him and resumed her run into the dark forest.
Alex stood still under the storm for what felt like hours as the rain continued to beat down heavily on him. He couldn't help but to maul over what he had just heard Reyes say. Deciding to question her mental stability later, he turned heel and ran in the opposite direction exactly where they came from.
Running as fast as his strained muscles could carry him he made it back on shore but there was no one in sight, not even Naruto which was a mystery itself seeing as he was unconscious when he last saw him and there was no possibility of the others having come back to get him. Horror filled him at the thoughts of what could have been as he searched the beach frantically for any sign of him in the storm.
"Naruto...NARUTOOOO!"

"Grim are you sure that we're heading in the right direction?"

"UZUMAKIIIII!" Grim gave him a huge knock on the head causing him to stumble, he regained his footing before realizing that their third companion had been completely quite for the past few hours which had him worried.
"Hey Alex" Naruto called out snapping him out of his day dreaming.
"huh?" was his intelligent reply as he turned to stare at Naruto like he had just seen a ghost.
"What's wrong?".
'Oh that's right, I found naruto' He thought recalling the recent memories. He looked at Naruto to see him giving him a concerned look probably worried since he just spaced out. He had grim on his back cause of his injured feet and he probably won't be able to move fast on one foot. They were currently making their way towards the rendezvous point with him leading the way since naruto isn't good with directions.
"What's wrong Alex?" Naruto repeated his question with a tick mark on his forehead since he got ignored the first time.
silence.
"What happened back there?"
"Huh?" now it was his turn to stare at him in stupor.
"I mean, when we left you on that beach what happened to you?" Alex asked looking him straight in the eyes with all the amount of seriousness that he could mutter. He seriously felt bad that they had to abandon his on that shore that was why he went back for him. They couldn't be blamed though, what they saw was really unpleasant.
"Oh? To be frank with you I don't quite recall myself. After I passed out on the ship I awaken to find myself tied upside down in an underground cave, nearly got killed by a mad man, then I almost got my head chopped off by this senile old bastard...".
"..Oh how I wish I did it Blondie"
"...The rest you can probably figure it out on your own".
"I see" That explains why I didn't find him on that beach, it was as I suspected, he was taken. Nevertheless, atleast he's here now. He gave a light chuckle when he saw grim pull on Naruto's hair.
'Am really glad that you're alive though cause I wouldn't be able to live with myself if things went otherwise.'

»Crunch, chirping«
(Sound of feets being dragged along the ground)
"am..so*pant*tiiiiirrrreeeed".
"seriously Uzumaki? is this how pathetic you are?".
"That's easy for you to say, am the one carry all the load... LITERALLY!".
"You disappoint me Blondie, you can't even lift a, and I quote "walking corpse" like me now, can you?".
"I'll show you disappointing, you bad of bones".
'Can't this guys go 2 minutes without getting in each other's faces' Alex couldn't help but sigh since they've been at it all day. He stood by and watch as grim pulled on Naruto's hair causing him to scream in pain while he laughed like an old man on drugs. Having seen enough he decided that it was high time he intervened.
"Can't you two do without fighting"
"HE STARTED IT" Both chorused causing him to facepalm.
'Jesus Christ! what did I do to deserve this?'
"AHHHHHHHH!".

"Did you guys hear that?" Alex asked hoping that their antics hadn't finally driven him insane.
"That voice..." Naruto couldn't help the feeling in his guts that that voice sounded familiar, he just couldn't wrap his hands around it.

"FUCK!" Lara cursed as she struggled to set her feet free from a trap.
'Damn it' After meeting up with Sam and a stranger, Mathias, she had fallen asleep from exhaustion and awaken only to find her friend Sam and the stranger Mathias gone; she had gone in search of them but had got caught in a bear trap. She tried her hardest to get free from the trap when she was interrupted by the sound of rustling coming from the bushes followed by a howl. She quickly let go of the trap to grabbed her bow and arrow in anticipation for what is to come. She didn't have to wait long as she got attacked by three wolves which jumped out of the bushes at different times. Each one was preceded by bushes rustling or bird flying out of the spot where they will leap from. She wasted no time in putting an arrow through their head with deadly accuracy. After dispatching of the wolfs, she quickly went back to her former task which is to pull the trap apart when another set of rustling filled assaulted her ear. She grabbed her weapons again and prepared for another set of target practice only to stop at the sight of a familiar face.
"LARA!"
"Jonah?"
"Lara!" Grim shouted as he got off Naruto's back and ran(staggered) towards the direction of the voice wuth Naruto and Alex not far behind him.
They ran through the dense forest towards where they heard the sound from. On getting there they found the rest of the crew already there with jonah pulling apart a bear trap to set Lara's feet free. Three dead wolf bodies lay on the ground with an arrow through each of them. Naruto couldn't help but wince at how painful it must have been for Lara to get her feet caught in a bear trap of all things and from his line of sight he could see Alex wince as well.
'Yap definitely painful'
"That's gonna hurt" Alex muttered to himself as janah finally pulled the trap apart setting Lara's feet free.
"It's great to see you again, little bird"
"Am so glad you are here*pant* is Sam with you?".
"She was with you?"
"She was here with that man, Mathias..but I passed out, when I woke up they were both gone"
"You girls shouldn't go wandering off" grim scolded.
"We need to find them"
"Now wait wait wait, what about Roth? Whitman interjected prompting them to take a moment to think it through before coming to a decision.
"okay, we'll split up.. one of us will go with Lara and meet up with Roth, the others should fan out and look for sam".
"I'll go with her..." Alex volunteered as he levelled a glare at Reyes which made her avert her gaze.
"No no, huh? let me" whitman offered.
"You know how to use one of this?" Reyes asked as he hand him a Glock.
"It's been a while"
"I'll tag along as well, won't hurt to have an extra wheel incase of emergencies" Naruto stated out of blue causing Reyes to take a step back in disbelief when she finally noticed him standing beside her.
'He's alive'
"He's right, who knows what could happen" Grim nodded agreeing with the idea.
"Alright"
"It's all coming back to me..."
"Lara get some rest, we'll find Sam and this Mathias guy" Alex said before he bumped fist with naruto while Jonah just gave him a nod with a pat on the back.
"Am glad that you're alive" He whispered into his ears before each group went their way.
"Ahhh*panting*" Lara groaned as she struggled to walk with her injured foot while using her bow as a walking stick.
"You gonna be okay" Whitman expressed his concern over wellbeing as she struggled to balance on one feet.
"Yes I...just need to rest for a few minutes" Lara stated as naruto helped her to the campsite with Whitman behind them.
"you sit here*cough* I'll check out the perimeter" Whitman said before setting off.
"You're not going with him" Lara asked curious when naruto sat down besides her. He kept quiet and didn't say a word for a few minutes before finally speaking up.
"What happened after the ship sinked?"
"Well if you must know, I fell off board and swam ashore. I sighted reyes and the others on the other side of the beach and called out to them but I was knocked out by someone or something, when I regained consciousness I found myself in an underground cave".
"So you got trapped in a cave too, thought I was the only one"
"For real?"
"I think you guys should come see this!" Whitman call out which had them hurrying up to his sides.
"What the?" Naruto couldn't help but gasp at the drawings on the huge double door.
"Isn't it fascinating"
"I've seen this before, they must be ritualistic" Lara said as she walked to get a closer look at the drawings.
"This female in it is particularly interesting" Whitman stated.
"It looks exactly like the ones I've been seeing around the island" Naruto added his two cents.
"Looks like it was made quite recently" Lara pointed out as she wiped off some part of the drawings.
"By those Islanders I guess, judging by the wrecks they are the only one here like us, survivors... remarkable". Whitman said as he tried to turn one of the wheel contraption that opens the doors.
"Yes, let's just hope they don't come murder us too." Lara scoffed
"Help me with the other one".
"Like that hasn't happened already". Naruto remarked as he leaned against the door and watch Lara try to turn the other wheel with her pry knife but it wouldn't bulge.
"Need some help"
"No I can...do..THIS!, ARRRGH!" She groaned out in frustration as the contraption refused to bulge.
"The handle won't hold". She complained only for an handle to come into her line of sight which caused her to turn to stare at Naruto with a quizzical look.
"Use this" Naruto stated as he handed her his hatchet. She grabbed it and placed the handle In-between the wheel then turned it with Whitman at the same time. A creaking sound was heard as the huge double doors begin to slide upwards revealing a passageway. They walked through the entrance just as the door began to slide back down. Lara handed naruto back his hatchet before setting her torch ablaze from a nearby fireplace with Whitman doing the same. Naruto just strolled behind them.

"That female figure at the gate with the age and the symbols, it could be the sun queen" Whitman deduced.
"Himiko? Are you sure you are not channeling Sam, doctor Whitman".
"He is right about that observation of his". Naruto added his two cents as he observed the paintings on the wall as they walked. Lara looked at him questioningly.
"You been awfully quiet since we got to this island, what's wrong?".
"I've just been getting alot of bad vibes lately. I mean from the storm to the cave to mountains to this forest, it just feels like everything is out to get us". He rationalize as he couldn't help the overwhelming sense of dread that seemed to loom over him wherever he goes.
"I didn't take you for a scared-cat, Uzumaki, or maybe you must have hit your head when you fell off the ship" Whitman taunted with a sly smile which made Lara erupt with laughter causing naruto to pout at the both of them.
"Don't worry about Whitman, he's just kidding" Lara reassured him but the look in her eyes said otherwise.
"Oh geez thank you, that really meant alot to me" Naruto deadpanned.
"Well there's no doubt, himiko had power...some say shamanic, elemental".
"A woman with that much power, sooner or later it gets called witchcraft".
"There are reasons for that as well, what would she do with so much power".
"We shouldn't miscount anything, even when they seem to us... irrational".
"Tell that to the world" Naruto muttered underneath his breath but they heard him.
"We still have much to learn about the world".
"You sound like my father"
"More like my uncle"
"Well ain't that something, I've already been reincarnated without even having to die". Whitman jested.
"You wish" Both chorused which made Whitman chuckle.
"Though I bet it's gonna be one hell of a story" He stated as they made it out of the passageway and back into the forest.
"Not if we don't live to tell it" Lara remarked as a female statue with candles placed in around it come into view.
(Crow crooking)
"I was right" naruto muttered.
(Fire crackling)
"Incredible...it is himiko" Whitman stated when they got closer to the status while lara moved her left hand over the burning candles.
"Look...the bowl, the candles. Why is she still being worshiped".
"The island it must have once been part of yamatai, you were right Lara!".
"The lost kingdom".
"It's like finding Atlantis"
"But this is real doctor Whitman, we are not standing on a myth". She rebuked as naruto walked pass her to better examine the statue.
"We are standing on a gold mine"
"It's exactly like I thought" Naruto suddenly speak up catching both Lara and Whitman's attention as he turned around to see the questioning looks on their faces.
"What do you mean?" Lara asked as she moved closer to him. At first she had thought that it was weird that he had been quiet a lot and reserved lately something that he hadn't been able to do on the ship. Then again this island would have anyone on edge, but after observing him for the little time that they had been together she begin to notice that he was just lost in thought, debating something... but she wasn't sure what.
"What's wrong? Naruto"
"During my little expenditure on this island, I came into contact with a group of people. At first I thought they were survivors of a shipwreck like us who got stranded on this island so I tried to reach out to them and seek shelter...not until I saw them slit a man's throat". Naruto revealed shocking both Whitman and Lara.
"What!"
"So that means that there are other survivors like us". Whitman summarized.
"But unlike us, they ain't friendly". Lara completed for him.
(Creaking, Grass rustling)
"Come quickly, your friends are here" A figure said causing Whitman to quickly pull out his Glock and aimed it at the man garbed in winter gear with a bow and quiver sling around his shoulder(an archer). Naruto grabbed his hatchet and stand at the ready.
(croaking)
"They are lying, they can't be trusted" Lara whispered to Whitman who has his gun aimed at the man as More appeared from the hills causing him to switch aim from person to another.
"You still have a gun" Lara reasoned.
"She's right Whitman, we can still win this, it's two on three". Naruto added his two cent.
"I don't want any trouble... we'll come" Whitman stated as he held up his hands in surrender.
"No"
"But I insist that afterward you take us to whoever is in charge"
"What are you doing?"
"Keep quiet"
"No!"
"Wtf Whitman"
"Am handling this" Whitman replied as he placed the gun on the ground.
"No!"
"Fuck this!" Naruto cursed as he shoved whitman out of the way and aimed his axe at the man standing ground in front of him ready to send it flying when an arrow piece his left shoulder. Lara seeing this quickly pulled out her bow and arrow to aid him but she got tackled from behind. Her attacker quickly grabbed her hands and tied them behind her back.
(Creaking)
"No... GET OFF!"
"Arghh!" Naruto groaned in pain as an archer pulled the arrow out of his shoulder roughly then grabbed his arms and tied them behind his back. The hole in his shoulder slowly bled out.
"NARUTO!"
(Naruto Groaning)
"Just go along with them Lara"
"Fuck you!"
(Lara panting)
Naruto gritted his teeth in pain when he and Lara got pulled up and dragged away while he glared heatedly at whitman.
They made it to an area where three other men where. They had their hands tied behind their back and were on their knees.
"Who are you people? what are you gonna do with us?"
"Silence".
"Lara" one of the men shouted as he hurried up to his feets only to get shoved back down to the ground by an hunter who pointed a gun at him.
"If any of them give you trouble kill them"
"NO! Don't hurt them please" Lara shouted only to get pushed roughly against a tree by their supposed leader.
"I said...shut up" Vladimir continued as he began to caress her body. Using the distraction to his advantage Naruto headbutted the guard to his left knocking him out, the guard to his right moved in to attack his blind spot only to get tackled by one of the prisoners.
"Run!" He shouted causing them to scatter.
"Let's go!"
Vladimir turned around towards the source of the noise to see one of the prisoners running away and quickly gunned him down.
"No"
"Round them up! round them up!
"Stop!" she screamed which earned her a bitch slap to the face that sent her tumbling to the ground.
"You! don't...fucking...move". He ordered as he walked away to round up the escaped prisoners.
(Groaning)
'I hope you're safe Naruto' Lara thought as she got back to her feet as soon as the man left.
"I've got to get out of here".
(Groaning)
Naruto hid behind a wall of a destroyed building as he tried to catch his breath. He had been able to undo his bind by cutting the rope with a piece of metal that he had found and escaped to safety. He looked around for any sort of item that can be used as a weapon when he caught sight of a wooden stake lying against a wall opposite him.
'Perfect'
He peeked out from the side of the wall that he hid on to make sure that no one was in sight before running across to the other side to pick up the stack. He heard sound of approaching footsteps causing him to hide behind the wall. The footsteps got closer as a shadow came into view followed closely by the owner who held a Glock in one hand and a torch in the other.

He waited patiently until his head came into view and whistle which drew his attention towards his direction only to get staked through the head killing him instantly. Wasting no time he quickly pulled the body into the darkness and equiped his Glock. He pull off his shirt and tear off a piece of it which he used to wrap his injured shoulder before putting on the corpse winter jacket. He peeked out from his hiding place to find the coast clear before he stealthily moved out from his hiding spot. The sound of gunshot infiltrated his ears causing him to cling slightly hoping that it wasn't Lara. He walked into a destroyed building and leaned against it wall to peek when he caught sight a man standing guard with his back turned towards him. Being as quiet as possible, he stalked up behind him and like a twig snapped his neck. After hiding the body he made a turn round another corner quickly blending in with the shadows.
(Distant Gunshots)
'Ive got to find Lara'
'Don't make a sound'
lara hid behind a piece of what used to be a brick wall just before a guard with a flashlight passed by. Wasting no time she quickly rushed out of her old hiding spot to hide behind another broken brick wall. The darkness of the night helping to keep her out of sight, smokes filled the air from
the burning temples around accompanied by the slight crackling of thunder.
"Yeah am on it›

(Gunshots)
"I can't find her! she's gone!›
"Well, keep looking!›
"There! another one!›
"Oh God..." She exclaimed at the shear barbaric act of this people. Deciding to abandon all thoughts for later she quickly ran past an unsuspecting guard to the other side all the while keeping a low profile. a burning obstacle blocked her path so she was forced to maneuver through the ruins of an old house. Her hands were still tied behind her back so she couldn't do much in this situation.
"Hey, we got a runner in the trap›

Lara made it to the end of the ruined house and out the back but had to quickly recoil upon sighting an incoming archer. She waited patiently for him to leave before proceeding out of her hiding spot and back on track. The sound of gunshots resounded through the air but she paid it no mind as she hid being another broken piece of a brick wall waiting until they were distracted enough for her to make haste and hide between two wall.
(Gunshots)
"Take this one to the pit, kill the rest!›
"Get me some lights over here!›
(Lara's accelerated heartbeat, heavy breathing)
"The woman must be here somewhere... Keep searching!
A figure walked over causing her to stiffen up. she held in her breath praying to God that he wouldn't see her. For a moment there it felt like her prayer had been answered as he walked away causing her so ease up only for him to come back right away.
«Fire crackling»
"No one escapes ‹Speaking Russians›". Vladimir motioned with his gun for her to come out of her hiding spot which she did only for him to start to molest her. She hit him in the groin and tried to make a break for it only to get pulled back and pushed hard against the wall. He whispered into her ear but she bit off his ear causing him to let go of her. He pulled out his gun and was about to take aim at her but she give him no chance as she charged into him shoulder first which made him drop his gun. Lara hurriedly got back to her feet and with all her strength she was able to break her bind and grabbed the her gun, she did a turn and aimed the gun at the approaching form of Vladimir but he grabbed the gun before she could pull a trigger turning it into a tag of war as she pushed with all her strength aiming the gun underneath his mouth before pulling the trigger blowing his brain out. She fell to her knees in shock after watching as the life left his eyes crying out in despair at what she had just done.
"Oh God".
"Lara!" A familiar voice shouted drawing her attention away from the cooling corpse as the person approached her.
"Naruto?" She perked up at the sight of her friend, happy to see that he was alive.
"Come on we have to go! this place is gonna burn to the ground" Forgoing her feelings for now she grabbed the gun and got back up to her feet before retrieving her bow and quiver from the corpse. She glanced at the corpse one last time before running after naruto. The navigated their way through the burning ruins and made and up the hills where they caught sight two guards patrolling infront of a building and quickly dispatched of them. The sound of footsteps alerted them of backup, so the hurried into a small safe house and locked the door shut but that didn't serve to save them as the house was set on fire which made them go on a coughing fit from the smokes.
"They're trying to smoke us out" Naruto stated as smoke began to fill his lungs. The fire already reaching to the room. They searched desperately for a way out when Lara finally caught sight of a man hole covered by wood slats.
"There!" She rushed over to the wooden slats and managed to breaks it off with little effort and escaped the burning building with naruto before they're burned to a crisp. They made it out the back of the temple which happened to be on the side of a cliff the fire burning behind them. Paying it no mind they pushed forward where there jumped a gap to the other side. They continued through the mountains where they heard voices prompting them to hide behind.
"Hey! Hey did you find anymore down there?!" A voice shouted as an archer pointed a flashlight down from onto the hills
"No, but keep your eyes out! the fire might send some your way!" He answered only for an arrow to find shelter in his throat. Lara watched with hitch breath as the archer fell down from his post.
"Nice shot" Naruto whispered to her breaking her out of her concentration. She nodded at him with a small smile.
"Would have preferred using my gun, the arrow requires too much aim and precision but am all out of bullet' She sighed out in dismay as they walked up to a ramp where Naruto help her up the hills by lifting her up before following suit. They continued up hills with fires burning all around them only to come up to an edge with a gap separating them from a structure on the other side.
"What now?"
«Thunder clap»
"We jump" She watched in horror as Naruto dash off towards the edge before jumping the gap, he grab onto the edge. He scaled it to the right before going up hill all the while lara watched with batted breath.
"Come on" Steeling her wit she followed his example as she took off towards the edge before jumping the gap. She grabbed onto the edge of the structure before scaling it up just as he had done. She made it up only to see he hiding behind a wooden crest, he motioned for to keep quiet as she hid behind him. He peeked from his hiding spot to see two men looting a corpse.
"Let's see what he's got"
"Wallet and dead phone..."
"It's always the same shit"
"So what came in? Another tanker?"
"No, looked like some kind of research ship"
Not willing to waste another second he motioned for Lara to use her bow which she did. With the precision of a skilled assassin she took aim and shot it an arrow right through his brain performing a headshot, his partner went wide eyed at the scene. He took his bow and arrow and turned towards the direction the arrow had come from, immediately he did the world went black. Naruto walked over and retrieved his axe from the corpse before turning to face lara.
"Where did you learn to shoot like that?"
"I should be asking you the same thing, why didn't you use that?" She pointed at the gun on his waist but he just shrugged.
"Too loud" His answer caused her to facepalm.
'What the hell is he carrying it around for then?'
"What's going on down there?" Her train of thoughts is interrupted when a rope ladder is dropped down and another archer begin climbing down. She grabbed an arrow and took aim when she felt a slight shift in the air as the sound of the air being cut filled the air. The archer barely made it 5 steps down the ladder before he fell limb to the ground from the ladder, an axe handle sticking out of his back. Lara stared at him wide eyed at such speed and accuracy. She couldn't brush off the dread that loomed over her when she stared at those cold blue eyes of his.
'wait cold .. since when were his eyes cold" Seeing what he had just done without any sense of remorse or hesitation brought back fresh memories of the men that she herself had killed not quite long ago.
"Come on lara" Naruto gave her a light shake jolting her out of her little monologue which he was unaware of. She raised an eyebrow questioningly at him and had to hold back the urge to deadpan when he pointed at the rope ladder. She take in his appearance one more time to find the hatchet back in it position on his waist like it never left.
"We have to go"
"Right"
Making her way to the ladder and begin climbing it up with Naruto not far behind her.
(Statistics)
"Lara are you there?~" (Roth via radio).
"Yes"
"I can see smokes coming from the old ruins, are you okay?"
"Oh God...Roth am in trouble,
. They're killing people".
"What? who?" They could practically hear the concern in his voice now.
"Men...I don't know why...we had to kill some of them. we had no choice".
"We?".
"Naruto and I".
"Is he with you?".
"Yes we're currently making our way uphill". Naruto continued to listen in on their conversation as they climbed closer to their destination."
"That can't be easy".
"It's scary how easy it was". They finally make it to the top of the ladder to another area of the mountain. And like the area they just left, this one also filled with temples.
"You have got to warn the others Roth"
"Don't worry about them, right now. You just do whatever it takes to get to me, Lara."
"I'll try". She put the radio back in her breast pocket after the connection break.

"So what now?" Naruto query.
"...Another odyssey".

I decided to end it here if not I probably will never finish this chapter. Am sorry for the late update by the way. I just got into school and I've had a lot on my plate lately. Also my exams tomorrow which might or might not be why I decided to upload this chapter today because it will be until next month before you get the next chapter so pls bare with me.
