Batman used all his bullets to put mutants to sleep but it wasn't enough more of them were coming. Evan was watching Batman surrounded by endless mass of human bodies and didn't move. Mutants didn't pay any attention to Evan standing in the corner of a terrace. It seemed as the harder Batman fought sick people the more of them were attacking him. When his bat rope and all handcuffs were used Batman cleared most of the mutants out of his way and only five of the mutants remained running free. One of them seemed very weak and he was constantly collapsing. Batman made a decision to lead all five of them to the kitchen and lock them from the outside even though there was a chance that Evan would run away. Batman escaped from the terrace and run towards a kitchen, mutants were following him fast.

Inside the kitchen Batman had to fight his way out when they got in behind him. They were strong and Batman felt like his strength was leaving him with every punch but he got out and shut the door, it was locked now for good. His cape torn apart and the dark knight was completely out of any ammunition, only shurikens were still in his steel sleeves.

Batman was sure Evan got away but when he run back to the terrace he saw Justice. She didn't wear White Shadow cape and her face was open. Blood was all over her dress and tall boots even on her face. She stood there face to face with Evan and he was laughing so loud but her face was still and pale.

-Hey! Look at you! You are back! - said Evan when Batman walked on the terrace. - You know, I was laughing because … oh well actually I will keep it for myself.

-Surrender Evan. - said Batman trying to keep calm after the long fight.

-And do what?! I will not go to prison I told you they won't let me also do you know that there are a lot of people in government who themselves or their relatives are diagnosed with cancer? And now when they see the result of my unexpected chemistry experiment they are so exited to be alive again! Gotham city is my laboratory and without me they won't get the knowledge of this process and if they won't get it they are going to be mad with you Batman! With you! Because you are the one who is on the way of the progress! All those people you gave vaccines will be dead of painful cancer and you are one to blame!

-Don't listen to him Batman. - said Justice leaning on the glass edge of the terrace. - We don't have to keep him alive! When he is dead they will have to open the city and restore it at least to the stage of living in it. Whatever he knows will be gone with him and yes people will die from cancer as they always did because it is coded in humanity for a reason.

-You know he will not kill me! He is the Batman! He wants to do everything right but even if he arrests me and I will be put in prison or even killed … death of all those people he gave vaccines to will be on him because there is always a "what if". What if my chemicals really work and it heals cancer and people can live and be happy! That what he wants! He wants people to live and be safe and he himself took it from them… Will you kill yourself knowing that you failed to save them!? It's a heavy burden to live with Batman. Plus believe me government knows you hunt me and they will hunt you if you mess their plan up. I documented every stage start from when I just had a plan to destroy Gotham all the way to me recovering from my cancer and coming here to this building. And if you look over there… it's a camera and they see me and you and they will make your life hell Batman if anything happens.

-I fight for the right cause! They can hunt me if it pleases them but you will answer for your actions Evan!

Batman noticed that Justice was almost on the floor it was obvious that she was going to pass out but there was nothing he could do for her.

-She is right. Government will have no choice but to reopen the city and when they do they will find a lot of those who didn't get the vaccine and those people will be given a choice to get the vaccine or live without but with the risk of not knowing the consequences of your chemicals. If it really works then medical corporations including Wayne Enterprises will figure out chemical balance of your poison without you! - Batman was walking toward Evan and it seemed like his words about Wayne Enterprises really hurt Evan.

His mood changed and his face became gray with anger.

-Wayne … No! This was my plan to begin with! No! I wanted to kill them all and I almost did! The rich, the powerful all of them! I did kill plenty of important people but I never got to those whom I really hate because they fled like cowards! Bruce Wayne and his corporation, I wanted to destroy him!

-And then you lost your way… - said Justice from the floor where her blood was collecting in a puddle next to her.

-I lost my way… I got distracted by my own creation! I didn't want to heal people or give them hope I wanted to destroy this hive of misery…

-You just wanted to bring your parents back, you just wanted to prove that you can find the cure to what was killing your mother and you forgot why you started it all to begin with… - Justice's voice was weaker and weaker with any second and her breath heavier.

-Why we started it! You hate this live no less than I do! Back there in the orphanage I know you wanted a revenge for what was done to you! Did you get it? - Evan screamed and went down on his knees next to Justice shaking her. Her eyes were closed she wasn't responding. Evan lifted her up by her arms still shaking.

-Answer to me! Did you get your revenge! Answer!

-Leave her! She is dying!

Batman was next to Evan in a split second but suddenly he saw Justice's eyes got wide open she grabbed Evan and pushed him over the glass railing of the terrace with abnormal amount of strength the last strength she had.

-No! - Batman heard himself growl when he saw two people falling down. One second, just one, and he could've grabbed Justice but he missed.

He went for the bat rope but he was out of it. Batman had nothing to help and all he could do was just watching them falling down from the eighth floor.

Those seconds felt like torture without the end. He knew he would hear the sound of two bodies crushing cars when they reach the bottom but this sound took forever to come back to Batman's ears. When he finally heard it, two bodies were already long time smashed on parked cars right on a sidewalk. Batman still looking at them and not believing his eyes saw nothing but two broken people. He missed one second, only one. When Batman finally closed his eyes, for the first time in a long time he felt fresh wind on his face.
