Chapter 12: All Hail Shadow
In a dimly lit location, Terios stood alone, his arms crossed as he reflected on his turbulent thoughts. Shadows danced across the walls, mirroring the turmoil in his mind. His memories seemed to be trying to tell him something, fragments of the past and glimpses of a future that was uncertain. Among the chaos, one thought remained clear—he was glad to be with Naminé again. He couldn't lose her, not like what had happened before.
Suddenly, a voice broke the silence.
"Did you get that past variant of Robotnik?"
Terios looked up sharply, his eyes narrowing as he saw Vexen standing near him. The scientist's cold, calculating gaze met his own.
"He's currently with the Doctor," Terios replied, his tone flat.
"Good," Vexen said with a nod of approval.
"What are you doing here, Vexen?" Terios asked, his expression hardening.
"I couldn't help but notice your... perplexed state," Vexen remarked, a small smirk forming on his face.
"What is it to you?" Terios retorted bluntly, unfolding his arms and beginning to walk away from the Organization member. "Don't you have your own problems to deal with, namely Riku?"
Vexen's smirk widened slightly as he followed Terios.
"Riku is indeed a fascinating subject, but my interest lies in the grand scheme of things. Your current state of confusion is intriguing, Terios."
Terios stopped in his tracks and turned to face Vexen, his eyes narrowing.
"I don't need your intrigue or your pity, Vexen. I've got everything under control."
"Is that so?" Vexen replied, his tone dripping with condescension. "You seem rather distracted, almost... conflicted. Is it about Naminé, perhaps?"
Terios's red eye flashed with anger, "Leave her out of this!" he said protectively."
"Oh, but she is, Terios.," Vexen replied coldly. "Naminé's powers are of great interest to the Organization. Keeping her safe might not be as easy as you think."
Terios's fists clenched at his sides as he replied, "I won't let anything happen to her. Not again."
Vexen took a step closer, his voice lowering to a more serious tone.
"Then you need to stay focused. Your emotional turmoil is a liability. You want to protect Naminé? Then you'll need to deal with Sonic and his friends more effectively. Just as I am dealing with our Riku problem."
"And what do you propose?" Terios asked.
Vexen's smirk returned as he explained his idea.
"I've come to offer some... encouragement. A way to handle Sonic that you might not have considered."
"I'm listening," Terios said, his interest piqued despite himself.
"Sonic and his younger variant are speeding through the past, trapped by your manipulation, whether it's time, space, or memories," Vexen explained. "Perhaps it's time you brought in a foe from his past who can match Sonic in speed and power."
Terios pondered the suggestion, Vexen looking on with intrigue. Suddenly, an idea sparked in Terios's mind.
"Of course," Terios muttered.
"Oh, you have an idea on where to go next?" Vexen asked, his eyes gleaming with interest.
Terios nodded, a determined look on his face.
"Yes, I know just the opponent to bring back," he replied.
With a swift motion, Terios opened a dark corridor, the swirling darkness beckoning him to his destination in the past. He glanced back at Vexen, a knowing look passing between them.
"Let's see how Sonic handles this," Terios said before stepping into the dark corridor, leaving Vexen behind with a satisfied smirk.
WHITE SPACE
Back in White Space, the two Sonics had returned, having restored Emerald Coast and Leaf Forest. This in turn freed Big, Cream, and Cheese from their frozen states. The two hedgehogs, along with the two Tails variants, stood in front of Big—now reunited with Froggy—and Cream and Cheese. They were trying to explain what had happened and why they were in this strange place.
"I don't get it," Big remarked, scratching his head in confusion, with Froggy now perched on his shoulder.
"I'm afraid I don't understand either, Mr. Sonic and Tails... or Mr. Sonics and two Tails..." Cream added, her face etched with confusion.
"Chao?" Cheese chirped, looking equally puzzled.
Classic Sonic facepalmed with frustration, while Classic Tails sighed. However, Modern Sonic and Modern Tails tried to explain the situation more clearly for their friends.
"Basically," Modern Sonic began, "we're in a place called White Space. It's kind of a limbo between different times and places from the past. Some bad guys, like Terios and members of an organization, have been messing with time and our memories."
"Yeah," Modern Tails continued, "they've been messing with places and enemies from different times. We've been working to free everyone and restore things back to normal."
"But why us?" Big asked, his expression softening as he tried to grasp the situation.
"Because you guys are important to me," Modern Sonic explained. "Every friend, every place—it's all part of my history and my future. Without you, things just wouldn't be the same."
Cream nodded slowly, starting to understand.
"So, we need to help you stop these bad guys and save everyone?" Cream asked, her eyes wide with determination.
"Exactly," Modern Tails affirmed. "The more we work together, the better chance we have of restoring everything and defeating Terios and the Organization."
"Chao chao!" Cheese chirped in agreement, fluttering around Cream's head.
Classic Sonic gave a thumbs-up, his confidence restored by the supportive words of his friends. Classic Tails smiled, feeling a renewed sense of determination.
"We've already made great progress," Modern Sonic said, looking around at the group. "But there's still a lot of work to do. We need to keep moving, free more hubs, restore more of our friends, and piece together these gaps in our memories of Sora, Donald, and Goofy."
"Sora, Donald, and Goofy?" Big questioned, turning to Cheese, who looked equally confused. "Who are they?"
"I don't think we've met those three before," Cream affirmed, giving a small shrug, which in turn made Cheese shrug in sync.
"Oh, that's right," Modern Sonic replied, with things making sense. "I don't think you all met them in our last adventure. Well, let's just say they seem important to a few of us, but there are gaps in our memories."
"Because of the Organization?" Big asked, still trying to wrap his head around it.
"Right," Modern Tails affirmed. "We're remembering small chunks, but it's still not clear."
"Don't worry," Cream remarked with a smile, her optimism shining through. "I know you will find the truth to all this, right Cheese?"
"Chao Chao!" Cheese replied with a smile.
"Ribbit!" Froggy exclaimed, jumping up and down on Big's shoulder.
"Froggies right, you guys can do this!" Big added with a smile.
Modern Sonic grinned, feeling the support from his friends bolster his determination.
"Thanks, everyone. Your support means a lot. We have to keep pushing forward and save all the hubs."
"We'll stay here and keep an eye on things," Big said, his usual calm demeanor returning. "If you need any help, just call."
"Yes, Mr. Sonic," Cream added. "We'll be ready to help however we can."
"Alright, let's get moving. There's no time to waste," Modern Tails said with determination.
The two Sonics and two Tails variants shared a look of mutual determination. With their friends understanding the gravity of the situation and offering their support, they felt more ready than ever to tackle the next challenge. The four began to walk away from the now restored and lively Emerald Coast and Leaf Forest hubs, seeking out more past adventures and trapped friends to save. As they walked a bit further, Modern Sonic sensed something, his ear twitching as he stopped in his tracks. This made his classic counterpart and the two Tails variants stop and look at him.
"What's wrong, Sonic?" Modern Tails asked.
"Is there something on your mind?" Classic Tails added, with Classic Sonic looking with intrigue at his counterpart.
"I sense something..." Sonic muttered, looking around White Space. "As if..."
But before he could finish, a voice familiar to Modern Sonic and Modern Tails echoed around them.
"Where am I?" the voice said in confusion, its tone deep.
The four of them turned, surprised to see a portal shimmering, revealing a familiar location from Modern Sonic and Tails's past. They moved forward to get a better look at the shimmering portal and the place inside.
"Is that..." Modern Sonic asked, looking to Modern Tails.
"That's Space Colony Ark, Sonic!" Modern Tails exclaimed.
"Space Colony Ark?" Classic Tails remarked, scratching his head and turning to Classic Sonic, who shrugged in confusion.
"It's a space station from our past," Modern Tails explained. "It's home to the Eclipse Cannon, a weapon capable of immense destruction. It was home to Dr. Eggman's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, and orbits high above Mobius. We had to stop it from being used to destroy the planet."
Classic Sonic and Classic Tails listened intently, their eyes widening with intrigue.
"So, it's like a giant fortress in space?" Classic Tails asked, his curiosity piqued.
"Exactly," Modern Tails confirmed. "We fought one of our toughest battles there. It holds a lot of history for us."
"Oh wow, that sounds like an impressive place," Classic Tails admitted, seemingly impressed.
Modern Sonic folded his arms and looked deeper inside the shimmering portal, remembering his time on the Ark and saving Mobius from the Final Hazard.
"If this portal to the Space Colony is here, Terios has dragged this past adventure into White Space, right?" Sonic muttered, piecing together Terios's actions.
"Right!" Modern Tails affirmed with a nod.
"Which means that voice was..." Modern Sonic started to say, but before he could finish, the voice interrupted him again, sounding closer than before.
"Why have you brought me here, Sonic?" the voice demanded.
The four turned around to see none other than Shadow, arms crossed and eyes narrowed. The black-furred hedgehog stood with an imposing presence, his red eyes glinting with intensity. A patch of white fur adorned his chest, contrasting sharply with his dark fur. His black nose and tan muzzle were set in a stern expression, and his small, triangular ears with tan canals twitched slightly as he regarded them. Six quills adorned his head, four curving upwards and two downwards, while two spines protruded from his back, complementing his short, pointy tail. Red stripes marked each of his head quills, the edges of his eyes, and his arms and legs, adding to his fierce appearance.
Shadow's white gloves had black cuffs and red tongues, and his Air Shoes, designed for speed, mirrored this color scheme with black cuffs and red tongues. Around his wrists and ankles, he wore Limiter Rings, gleaming subtly in the dim light. His mood was palpable—intense and suspicious—as he demanded answers, ready for whatever challenge lay ahead.
"Shadow!" Modern Sonic exclaimed, recognizing the black hedgehog.
"Shadow?" Classic Tails asked in surprise, with Classic Sonic equally puzzled.
"Why have you brought me here?" Shadow repeated, his tone sharp and demanding.
"Sonic," Modern Tails whispered to Modern Sonic, "I think this could be a past variant of Shadow. So tread carefully when trying to explain what is going on."
"Right," Modern Sonic retorted, his voice serious.
"I'm waiting for an answer!" Shadow demanded, his patience wearing thin. "I was about to find whoever was approaching the Eclipse Cannon, with the Doctor about to activate it with the Chaos Emeralds. But somehow, I ended up here!"
"Well, it's a long stor—," Sonic began to explain, but was cut off by Shadow.
"This is your doing, isn't it?" Shadow spat in frustration. "You used some kind of trick to stop me from completing my mission and my promise to Maria?"
"Hold on a minute, Shadow," Modern Sonic said, raising his hands in a placating gesture. "We didn't bring you here. It's Terios. He's manipulating time and space, dragging past events and people into White Space."
Shadow scoffed at the name, his eyes narrowing further.
"Terios? What kind of ridiculous name is that? Sounds like a convenient excuse for your meddling."
"I'm telling you the truth!" Modern Sonic insisted. "Terios is a powerful enemy messing with timelines and memories. We're trying to stop him."
"Surely you've noticed something not right in your timeline?" Modern Tails asked, eager to try and win Shadow over.
Shadow shook his head and began to stride toward the group and the portal to the Ark.
"There have been some strange creatures appearing across the Ark, but I have disposed of them, sending them back to the darkness once they came!" Shadow explained stoically, as he continued to move forward.
"The Heartless!" Classic Tails remarked, with Classic Sonic nodding in agreement.
"The what?" Shadow asked, stopping in his tracks and looking down at the small fox.
"A type of foe we will deal with in the future, but right now, this past event is in danger," Modern Sonic affirmed with urgency, looking to Shadow.
Shadow crossed his arms and looked sternly at Sonic.
"Prove it," he demanded.
"Prove it?" Sonic asked. "Oh come on, you need to take us seriously here!"
"Race me to the Eclipse Cannon and prove what you're saying is true," Shadow said, his tone serious but blunt. "If you are saying you're from the future, then you should be familiar with the layout of the Ark to the core. However, if you are lying and the same, annoying Sonic I've been dealing with, then I will destroy you!"
Modern Sonic shook his head, a wry smile on his face.
"Man, I thought he was stubborn now. I forgot how he was when we first met him," Modern Sonic muttered.
Modern Tails leaned in and whispered to Modern Sonic, "You might have to race him, just to help stop the Ark from being distorted."
Modern Sonic sighed, shaking his head, but he knew his friend was right.
"Alright, fine," he said, turning his gaze to Shadow. "You're on."
Shadow smirked, his confidence unwavering.
"To make it interesting, let's race for a Chaos Emerald!" the brooding hedgehog exclaimed.
"Wait, you have one on you?" Modern Sonic asked, surprised.
Shadow nodded and, turning his gloved hand over, palm up, the red Chaos Emerald materialized in his hand, glowing with a powerful energy. The sight of the emerald added an extra layer of tension to the already high-stakes situation.
"But, isn't that going to mess up your plans if you took it from the cannon's console?" Modern Tails asked slightly confused.
"No," Shadow replied. "I found this Emerald on the Ark, seemingly when those dark creatures showed up. Most probably another fake, but the power it holds is strong."
Modern Tails and Classic Tails looked puzzled by this, with Classic Sonic also looking surprised that an emerald had appeared in the past.
"I need that Emerald, Shadow," Modern Sonic said, his tone serious. "So you're on."
Shadow's smirk widened, "Follow me, then," he replied. "Let's race to see if you really are who you say you are...faker!"
With that, Shadow turned and leapt into the portal. Modern Sonic rolled his eyes at his edgy counterpart.
"That is so my line...!" Sonic muttered to himself.
"Be careful," Modern Tails said, his voice filled with concern. "And try to knock some sense into this Shadow."
"We don't want to cause any paradoxes," Classic Tails added, his voice urgent.
Modern Sonic nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. Classic Sonic gave him a thumbs-up, showing his support and confidence in his counterpart.
"Alright, let's do this," Modern Sonic said, steeling himself for the challenge ahead.
The Blue Blur sprinted into the portal, following Shadow into the distorted corridors of the Space Colony Ark. The familiar yet altered surroundings greeted him, dark energy pulsating from the walls. The stakes were higher than ever, and the tension was palpable.
SPACE COLONY ARK
As Sonic rushed through the portal from White Space, he took in the breathtaking view around him. The vastness of space stretched out in all directions, with countless stars twinkling like distant beacons. The massive structure of the Space Colony Ark loomed ahead, its intricate design a mix of metal and technology, with smaller satellite stations orbiting around it like moons. The depths of space provided a stark, black backdrop, punctuated by swirling galaxies and nebulas.
Beneath the Ark, the planet Mobius was visible, a beautiful sphere of blues, greens, and whites, reminding Sonic of what he was fighting to protect. The sight of his home planet filled him with determination and a sense of urgency.
Sonic kept running across the metal platform, his feet pounding against the cold steel as he accelerated. Ahead of him, he saw Shadow, effortlessly skating with his Air Shoes, leaving a trail of red energy in his wake. The brooding hedgehog moved with precision and grace, his focus unbroken.
Sonic pushed himself harder, his speed increasing as he closed the distance between them. The race was on.
SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG

The winding corridors and paths of the Space Colony Ark loomed ahead, dark energy pulsating from the walls. Sonic could see the intricate details of the station—its once pristine and sterile environment now marred by cracks and flickering power. Control panels sparked and hissed, and the air was filled with the hum of struggling machinery.
Shadow glanced over his shoulder, a smirk playing on his lips as he saw Sonic catching up. He picked up speed, weaving through the distorted corridors with ease. Sonic followed closely, the two hedgehogs moving in perfect synchronization.
They dashed through narrow passageways, leaped over gaps, and spun through obstacles with acrobatic precision. The Ark's interior was a blur of metal and darkness, with occasional flashes of light from malfunctioning systems. The stakes were higher than ever, and both hedgehogs knew it.
Shadow suddenly vanished in a flash of light, reappearing behind Sonic.
"Chaos Control!" he shouted, launching a barrage of Chaos Spears at Sonic.
Sonic's reflexes kicked in, and he dodged the spears with quick, fluid movements.
"Nice try, Shadow, but you'll have to do better than that!" Sonic quipped, a grin spreading across his face.
Sonic countered with a Sonic Wind, a powerful gust of energy that forced Shadow to block. Taking advantage of the moment, Sonic unleashed a series of homing attacks, striking Shadow with precision. Shadow grunted in pain but quickly teleported away using Chaos Control.
"You're fast, but not fast enough," Shadow taunted as he reappeared ahead of Sonic, using his momentum to gain distance.
Sonic gritted his teeth and surged forward, determined not to let Shadow outpace him. They raced through a section of the Ark filled with shifting platforms and laser grids. Sonic nimbly dodged the lasers and leaped from platform to platform, his eyes locked on Shadow.
Shadow fired another round of Chaos Spears, but Sonic deftly avoided them, using the platforms as cover. With a burst of speed, Sonic launched himself into a Spin Dash, aiming directly at Shadow. The impact sent Shadow skidding back, but he quickly recovered, his expression steely.
"Not bad, Sonic. But I'm just getting started," Shadow said, his eyes glowing with determination.
The two hedgehogs continued their race, neck and neck, each trying to outdo the other. Sonic used his experience and agility to keep up with Shadow's relentless attacks. The blue hedgehog spun, dashed, and leaped, always staying one step ahead.
As they rounded a sharp corner, ahead was suddenly filled with NeoShadow Heartless, their glowing eyes and menacing forms blocking the path. Shadow growled, his distrust of Sonic momentarily overridden by the immediate threat.
"These things are becoming a pain," he muttered, his red eyes narrowing.
"Fancy a team-up?" Sonic asked, his tone light but serious.
Shadow shot him a glare but nodded, "Whatever!" he remarked.
Without missing a beat, the two hedgehogs launched into action. Shadow used Chaos Control to teleport behind a cluster of NeoShadows, delivering a series of rapid Chaos Spears that dispersed the dark creatures. At the same time, Sonic sped forward, his Spin Dash plowing through the Heartless with incredible force.
The NeoShadows retaliated, reaching out to ensnare the hedgehogs. Sonic leaped into the air, performing a Homing Attack that connected with one of the creatures, sending it crashing into a nearby wall. Shadow followed up with a powerful roundhouse kick, clearing a path through the Heartless.
The two rivals moved in perfect sync, their movements a blur of black and blue. Sonic spun through the air, creating a vortex of wind that drew the NeoShadows in, while Shadow unleashed a barrage of Chaos Spears, each one finding its mark with deadly precision.
"Not bad, faker," Shadow grunted, his voice tinged with grudging respect.
"Same to you," Sonic replied, a confident grin spreading across his face.
The NeoShadows kept coming, but the combined might of Sonic and Shadow was too much for them. Sonic created a Sonic Wind, the powerful gust dispersing the dark creatures, while Shadow executed a flawless Chaos Blast, the energy wave obliterating any remaining Heartless.
As the last of the NeoShadows vanished, the two hedgehogs stood and turned to each other. The route ahead was clear, and the path to the Eclipse Cannon's core lay open.
"Nice work," Sonic said, giving Shadow a quick nod.
Shadow shrugged, still wary but unable to deny their effectiveness as a team.
"Don't get used to it," he said curtly. "Let's finish this race."
With a shared look of determination, they launched forward again, racing toward the core. Despite their rivalry, the moment of teamwork had solidified a temporary truce.
As they picked up speed across the metal platform, Shadow vanished in a flash of light. The brooding hedgehog reappeared behind Sonic with a Chaos Control, his eyes gleaming with fierce determination. He swung his arm and released a volley of Chaos Spears, but Sonic, ever alert, ducked just in time. Seizing the opportunity, Sonic countered with a Homing Attack that connected with Shadow's chest, sending him skidding backward. Shadow grunted in pain but quickly teleported away, his frustration mounting.
"Chaos Control!" Shadow bellowed, using the ability to materialize directly in Sonic's path, poised to strike. But Sonic was prepared.
"Let's see you handle this!" Sonic shouted, his body radiating energy as he unleashed a powerful Sonic Wind. The force of the attack sent Shadow hurtling backward, crashing against the cold, metal ground with a resounding thud.
Sonic didn't waste a moment. He tapped into his incredible speed, the world around him blurring as he dashed forward. The final stretch lay before him—the path to the Eclipse Cannon's core. He sprinted with everything he had, his heart pounding and his mind laser-focused.
Shadow struggled to his feet, his eyes followed Sonic's figure, a mix of frustration and grudging respect in his gaze.
"He's fast... too fast," Shadow muttered to himself, pushing past the pain.
The corridors of the Space Colony Ark flew by in a dizzying blur of metal and darkness. Sonic leaped over gaps, dodged lasers, and spun through obstacles with unmatched agility. He could feel the crackling energy of the Eclipse Cannon's core drawing nearer, the air thick with tension and the stakes higher than ever.
Sonic could see the core of the Eclipse Cannon ahead, its massive structure looming ominously. The energy crackled around it, casting an eerie glow. He poured on the speed, his legs a blur as he raced toward the finish. Each step felt like a lightning strike, propelling him faster and faster.
With a final burst of effort, Sonic reached the core, skidding to a halt just as the doors to the chamber opened. He turned to see Shadow in the distance, still recovering from the force of the Sonic Wind, but determinedly pushing forward.
"Too bad, Mr. Ultimate Lifeform," Sonic teased, his voice carrying a blend of triumph and camaraderie. "You might be fast, but experience always gives you the edge."
RANK: S
Shadow finally caught up with Sonic, looking visibly annoyed as he entered the core.
"So, you are telling the truth," Shadow admitted with frustration. "The Sonic I know is fast... but not that fast."
Sonic grinned, his confidence unshaken.
"Better luck next time," he teased.
Shadow's eyes narrowed, "Is there a next time?" he asked.
"Of course," Sonic replied. "I won't detail what happens here, just in case things change. But, after this incident on the Ark, we have a healthy but fierce rivalry in the future."
Shadow gave a huff and walked near the core of the Eclipse Cannon, lost in thought. He pondered the implications of the future, his mind racing with possibilities.
"A healthy rivalry, huh," Shadow remarked in surprise. "Well, next time, I will better you. Whether it's a race or combat, I will avenge my defeat, Sonic!"
Sonic grinned, his usual confidence shining through.
"I'll be looking forward to it, Shadow."
Shadow's eyes narrowed as he scrutinised Sonic. Despite their current truce, the competitive fire in his heart burned brightly.
"You speak of the future with such certainty. But how can I trust that anything you say is real?" Shadow questioned, his red eyes locked onto Sonic's.
Sonic met Shadow's intense gaze, his expression sincere.
"I know it's a lot to take in, Shadow. But everything I'm telling you is true. Those creatures we just took down together—the Heartless—you'll face them in the future. And you'll help a close friend of ours battle these creatures of darkness."
"A friend?" Shadow asked, his voice still edged with skepticism.
Sonic hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should reveal too much. But then he decided that perhaps it wouldn't hurt.
"Her name is Aqua. She is a friend we make in this terrible mess with the Darkness. She will need you, Shadow."
Shadow's face registered surprise at the mention of the name.
"Aqua," he muttered. "Why does that name sound familiar to me?"
"It does?" Sonic asked, curious about Shadow's reaction.
Shadow nodded slowly, "There's something about that name... it connects with me. But I'm not sure why," he explained.
Sonic's expression softened, "Maybe it's because, deep down, you know you're meant to help her. To fight alongside her against the darkness," the hedgehog replied.
Shadow's eyes narrowed as he processed Sonic's words.
"Aqua... it feels like a distant memory, something just out of reach," Shadow pondered.
"Trust your instincts, Shadow," Sonic said gently. "They'll guide you when the time comes."
Shadow remained silent for a moment, lost in thought. The weight of the conversation hung heavy between them, the gravity of their mission clear. Finally, Shadow looked up, his expression a mix of determination and curiosity.
"Alright, Sonic. I'll trust you... for now. But if I find out you're deceiving me..."
"You won't," Sonic interjected confidently. "We have a lot more in common than you think, Shadow. And we both want to protect those we care about."
Shadow gave a curt nod, still wary but more open to the possibility.
"Very well. Aqua... I'll remember that name."
Sonic smiled, relieved to see a crack in Shadow's hardened exterior.
"You'll see, Shadow. When the time comes, you'll know exactly what to do. Listen to your heart. It will guide you."
Shadow scoffed lightly but nodded to Sonic's comments.
"That's rather philosophical of you, faker," Shadow remarked.
"I've been around some good people who taught me about the power of the heart," Sonic replied.
Shadow looked intrigued, but before he could respond, Sonic's eyes widened in realisation.
"What's that look for?" Shadow asked.
"I'm remembering more of this Sora guy" Sonic affirmed, deep in thought.
"Sora?" Shadow echoed, the name foreign yet oddly significant.
"Yeah," Sonic said, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "You'll meet him later down the road, just like our friends Leon, Yuffie, Aerith, and so many more."
"I see," Shadow muttered, folding his arms. "This Sora, who is he?"
"Well, Sora is a Keyblade wielder, and it seems my last adventure was connected to his," Sonic explained, starting to pace around the metal hall of the core. "But, thanks to Terios and the Organization, the memories are blank in places."
"Perhaps, a connection of the heart?" Shadow asked, still looking at Sonic with a cold, scrutinizing gaze.
"Maybe," Sonic replied with a shrug. "But I have to keep doing what I can to save my past, my friends, and these memories."
"A noble quest," Shadow admitted, unfolding his arms. He moved closer to Sonic and turned his hand palm up, with the Red Chaos Emerald materialising in his grasp. "You'll need this then."
Sonic looked at the emerald, its red glow pulsating with powerful energy. He took it from Shadow's hand, their eyes meeting in a moment of mutual understanding.
"Thanks, Shadow," Sonic said, his voice steady. "This means a lot."
Shadow nodded, his expression softening just a fraction.
"Don't make me regret this. Use it wisely," Shadow warned.
"I will," Sonic promised. "And remember, Shadow, you have a role to play too. When the time comes, you'll know what to do."
Shadow turned his gaze away, contemplating Sonic's words.
"This Sora... and Aqua. There's something about those names that feels... important."
"It is," Sonic assured him. "We're all connected in this fight against the darkness. Just trust your instincts."
Shadow's eyes flickered with a mixture of emotions—confusion, determination, and a hint of hope.
"Fine. But don't think for a second that I'm letting my guard down around you, Sonic."
"I wouldn't have it any other way," Sonic said with a small chuckle.
Suddenly, a portal opened up near Sonic, with White Space shimmering in the background.
"Guess this is my ride," Sonic said, glancing at the portal.
Go, save my future and don't screw up," Shadow remarked bluntly.
Sonic turned with a grin, "Thanks for the confidence," he retorted.
The blue hedgehog started walking towards the portal and, with his free hand, gave Shadow a wave.
"Sayonara, Shadow, the Hedgehog."
Shadow smirked as he watched Sonic leave through the portal, which closed behind him. Turning back to the Eclipse Cannon's core, he folded his arms and took a deep breath.
"Aqua... I'll be there to help when it matters," he murmured, the name lingering on his lips.
Suddenly, an alarm blared, and the Eclipse Cannon shook violently. Shadow looked up in surprise, struggling to keep his balance as the entire structure trembled.
"Shadow! Get back to the main control room right now!" Doctor Eggman's voice echoed through the chamber, panic evident in his tone. "Something has happened, and the Ark is unstable!"
Shadow nodded, his resolve hardening.
"Understood, Doctor. I'm on my way."
With a final glance at the core, Shadow turned and dashed off, his Air Shoes igniting as he skated through the corridors of the Ark. The red lights of the alarms flashed urgently, casting an ominous glow on the metallic walls. The path back to the control room was treacherous, with debris falling from the ceiling and the floor quaking beneath his feet. But Shadow's focus was unyielding. As Shadow rushed through the dimly lit hallways, his mind was deep in thought.
"Aqua... Sora... What is this connection I feel? Perhaps the future holds more than just battles. Maybe there is a chance for understanding, for alliances forged in the heat of conflict."
The echoes of his footsteps mixed with the distant blaring of alarms, creating a symphony of urgency. Yet, within that chaos, Shadow found a flicker of hope, a belief that the battles they fought now would pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
"Whatever comes next, I'll be ready!" Shadow murmured to himself, his eyes steely with determination.
With those words hanging in the air, Shadow pressed on, his heart and mind set on the challenges that lay ahead. The future was uncertain, but with the strength of his allies and the resolve in his heart, he was prepared to face whatever darkness threatened their world.
And with that hopeful thought, Shadow continued his race through the Ark, a solitary figure blazing a path through the shadows, ready to confront his destiny head-on.
