Story #07
"Must we go to this infernal party, Cissa?" Lucius almost whined.
"Yes, darling, we must go. Remember this is your daughter-in-law's family." Narcissa chided.
"Yes, yes but…it's the Weasleys." Lucius did whine this time.
Narcissa stared at her husband, "Fine, then you explain to Hermione why we will not be there."
"Very well, we shall go." Lucius caved. The last thing he wanted to do was disappoint his son's wife. She had a devious streak that wasn't to be tested. He knew first hand how well Hermione was in getting her revenge when a promise was broken.
It wasn't as though the bad blood was still active between the Malfoys and Weasleys, it was that when the entire family was together it tended to get quite rambunctious.
"What is planned for the evening?" Lucius dreaded the answer.
"A lovely dinner then some dancing and ending with something called karaoke. If I remember correctly, it involves the singing of popular songs." Narcissa told him.
"Ah, yes, I remember Draco saying something about Arthur getting some sort of new machine. Will we be expected to…sing?" Lucius cringed.
"I do not believe so, it is strictly voluntary." Narcissa smiled indulgently.
"Very well, I suppose if we must." Lucius sighed however Narcissa caught the small smile on her husband's face. She had expected this from Lucius. The feud may be over and Lucius tolerated being around the Weasleys it didn't mean he wouldn't be a drama queen about it. She loved her husband but he could really test her patience.
Once at the party, Lucius found he was enjoying himself, well, that was until the karaoke machine was brought out. As he watched, he noticed he was the only one to not pick a song. It wasn't that he couldn't sing, he had a very nice voice but he cared not to do so in front of others, only his wife and son were allowed to hear. After everyone picked what they wanted to sing, everyone mingled until their song came up.
Lucius would admit, if only to himself, most had a decent to lovely singing voices, however, there were a few who really should only sing in the shower…with a silencing spell up. It amused Lucius the choice of song made.
Arthur and Molly sang 'You and I', a lovely song made for a couple. Ginny Weasley then sang 'Just a Freak', an interesting song that seemed to be about having fun no matter what anyone may think of you.
The Weasley twins sang 'Don't Tread on Me', which seemed fitting considering all they had to overcome and endure with their pranks. During the War they had lost much but refused to let it defeat them. While their brother Bill sang 'Hungry Like the Wolf' and never took his eyes off his wife, Fleur sang 'Would I Lie to You'. A fun tune about not putting up with much from the one they cared about. It made Lucius smirk, he knew the oldest Weasley son would never treat his wife in such a way but it was fun to watch the two interact as Fleur sang.
His son followed and sang 'Margaritaville', which had Lucius shaking his head. Then his lovely and talented wife sang 'The Rose', as she focused on him. Their love had been an unexpected boon, one he cherished everyday. After his Cissa, Hermione (as if she wasn't talented enough) sang 'Funkytown' and had danced her way to her husband making everyone cheer.
Harry Potter had chosen 'Cult of Personality' which seemed strangely fitting for the young man. Pansy (who knew she'd pair up with Potter?) sang 'This is What Rock and Roll Looks Like'. Lucius hadn't realized what a talented dancer the young witch was, quite impressive.
When Ron sang 'I Want a Woman', Lucius wanted to plug his ears with the nearest thing whatever it may be. Instead he chose to drum his fingers until the song blessedly ended. Then it was Charlie Weasley's turn, his chosen song was 'Tall Cool One'. Lucius swore under his breath as he grabbed a few walnuts from a bowl on the table to crush as the wizard destroyed the song. It may have been a good song but Lucius would never know. He didn't think Charlie would be able to carry a tune in a bucket with the lid on it. After the song ended, Lucius took note of the dozen or so walnuts he had crushed with his bare hands and although his hands hurt a bit, it was nothing compared to his poor ears.
Fortunately, the two toneless red heads were followed by Fred's and George's dates who sang 'Push It' quite well. A bit too provocative for Lucius' tastes but they did it well. As they party started to wind down, Lucius had to admit that he had had fun, despite the rowdiness of everyone gathered or the two poorly sung songs. Where he wouldn't immediately agree whenever the next invitation was given, and there would be a next time, he wouldn't dread it quite as much as he had this time.
