Lloyd and the others were in black ninja suits to blend in with the shadows. They silently leaped around the city of Paris, doing their first patrol.
Their strategy was to stay low and hidden. Hopefully, their target wouldn't realize that they were in the realm until it was too late.
They had gathered a little information at school about the miraculouses themselves. People would talk about the heroes Ladybug and Chat Noir, and they drew the logical conclusion that these heroes used the Ladybug and black cat miraculouses.
"Aaaaaaand there is nothing," Kai helpfully pointed out over their comms. "No trace of the weird insane person from Ninjago."
"Thanks, Kai," Cole dryly said. "I couldn't see that with my own eyes."
"We have school in the morning. Maybe we should get back and get some rest," Lloyd offered. He didn't care about school, he just wanted an excuse to go back and sleep.
"Yeah, I'm tired," Jay moaned, ending with a yawn to punctuate his sentence.
"Race you back to the warehouse!"
"You're on!"
—
Lunch was good. It was pizza, and the ninja loved pizza. Jay almost wet himself with joy.
"I didn't know they had it in this realm, but boy am I glad they do!" Jay inhaled the scent of cheese and tomato sauce.
"Mmmhmm," Cole said through a mouth full of food. "Thif if goooomd."
Jay hopped up. "I'll be right back. I gotta pee." Kai waved him away, too focused on the steaming slice of pizza in front of his face.
"Hi," a shy voice wavered. The ninja looked up to see a blunette smiling. "I'm Marinette. You guys are new here, right?"
"That is correct," Zane said, shifting his icy blue eyes to her.
"Why don't you sit down with us?" Nya offered, motioning to the seat Jay had occupied. She and Jay could share one when he got back.
"Thanks," Marinette beamed, giving them a bright grin. She sat down with her tray of food and looked at them. "So, where are you guys from?"
"Lyon," Lloyd blurted while Cole said, "Here."
Marinette's brows furrowed.
Zane laughed. "What they mean is that we moved from Lyon to Paris about a year ago, but just recently moved houses into this school district."
Lloyd let out a slight breath in relief. Zane was the smart one. Thank goodness he was here. They would have to fill Jay in on their story later.
"Oh." Marinette blinked, then her lips curled up. "That makes sense. So are you all family?"
"No," Kai said at the same time Cole said, "Yes."
Lloyd knew that Zane couldn't be the only one making connections otherwise it might be suspicious. Well, even more suspicious than it already was. "We are family, though not all of us by blood. Our parents knew each other so we all grew up together. They have their own business that they are starting, though they are still getting it set up, so I doubt that you will find it on the internet yet."
Lloyd felt pretty proud of his explanation. It was believable and she couldn't fact-check his lies.
"Ah, interesting," Marinette said, beaming. She rubbed her shoulder with a slight wince.
"You okay?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah, just sore."
"YOU CLUMSY OAF!"
The shrill scream of Chloe echoed throughout the room. "RIDICULOUS! UTTERLY RIDICULOUS. THIS IS CASHMERE, IDIOT!"
Lloyd twisted around to see the blonde verbally berating…Jay. Her pretty features were twisted in rage. Jay looked like he wanted to melt into the floor as slice of pizza slide down Chloe's sweater.
"I-it was an accident," he squeaked out, but his repsonse was lost in Chloe's anger.
Lloyd stood up the same time Nya did. He looked at Nya and was startled to see she looked murderous. Duh, he thought. She's going to kill Chloe without hesitation.
"HEY SPOILED PRINCESS," Nya roared, storming up to Chloe. "LEAVE MY BOYFRIEND ALONE."
Lloyd paled as he recognized the stance Nya was in. She was about to strike Chloe with her signature kick. Cursing silently, Lloyd hurried to them and gently placed a hand on Nya's shoulder.
"Calm down, Nya," Lloyd murmured, feeling a little nervous. "Please."
"Calm down?! CALM DOWN!" Nya whipped around and jabbed a finger at Lloyd. "If you think I'll let this SPOILED EXCUSE FOR A HEDGEHOG attack MY YANG…."
Chloe bristled. "WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME, GREASEY JACKET?!"
"I called you a hedgehog on account of the hairs all over your body bristling out. Really, the likeness is uncanny." The venom in Nya's voice was more toxic than that of the great devourer.
The piercing shriek that came out of Chloe's mouth was enough to make Lloyd wince. She went on about do you know who my father is and I can get you expelled because, apparently, she couldn't come up with a good comeback.
"This can't get any worse," Cole whispered to Lloyd.
"Worse?!" Jay hissed. "When you say it can't get any worse, it does."
And that is when Lloyd heard the water fountain start to whine.
Not good. May the FSM give me strength.
Lloyd inserted himself between the two before Nya could flood the hallway. "Nya, you are more of a hot head sometimes than Kai."
"AM NOT!"
Lloyd took a deep breath in, and summoning all of the leadership skill he had developed over the years of leading the team, said in a stern, steady voice, "Nya."
Nya frowned but recognized the warning in his voice. She dipped her head in a quick nod of respect, before falling into line with the other elemental masters behind him. Lloyd turned to face the blubbering blonde. He let his green eyes bore into Chloe's.
"Chloe. It was an accident. And if you are as rich as you claim, then it shouldn't be a problem to replace it, should it? Unless you've been…exaggerating your wealth? But that's the only reason why you would fuss over it, right?"
The damaged pride and humiliation in her eyes told Lloyd that he had won this round. She opened and closed her mouth, unsure of what to say as her face turned all shades of purple.
"You listen here, Floyd…"
"It's Lloyd."
"…I will make your life miserable. Yours and that girl you found hiding in the dumpster. Got it?"
Lloyd held her gaze and let his lips climb into a mocking smirk. "I'd like to see you try."
