An Atlesian scientist leaves the kingdom of Atlas after being disgraced by Ironwood and not getting assistance for his projects. He moves to a secluded area a few miles southeast of Vacuo to plan his revenge.
15 years before the events of RWBY
The scientist walks around the market in Vacuo buying some supplies and still plotting how to get back at Ironwood and Atlas. He notices a family of Faunus nearby with a child, no more than 5 years old.
"Hmm. Maybe I've been thinking this all wrong. Maybe I could put my genius to work by experimenting on someone, rather than creating something new," the scientist says to himself. "And what better thing to use, than the one thing they discriminate on." His gaze falls on the young child.
He follows the family, without drawing too much attention to himself. The family starts to get interested in some tapestries for their home and start discussing amongst each other which would look better, however they are too busy to notice the scientist come and snatch the child away. When they look down, they notice their son is nowhere to be seen.
As the scientist leaves the market, he hears the couple yell out the child's name…
Hedge
A few days later
The scientist has been taking care of the young Hedge, but something is different of the Faunus. He still looks the same on the outside, but he isn't afraid of the man in his presence.
Brief flashbacks
"I've always thought about doing physical enhancements to someone in Atlas, but no one was willing to become an Android. No one could ever take it to that extreme and create one could they?" The scientist continues working on the young Hedge. "Maybe I could make something work with biological enhancements on this young lad." He had succeeded in forcibly unlocking the lad's semblance, which appeared to be generating and utilizing lightning dust as an offensive weapon, as well as enhance any physical object for melee attacks.
Flash back to the present
"Good morning," he says to Hedge. "How are you today?"
"I'm…doing good." He places his hand on his head. "May have a headache, but should be good."
The scientist responds, "Hopefully you feel 100%, as today I want to test some things. Can you go ahead and try activating your semblance? Try generating the dust as electricity around your hands."
The Faunus closes his eyes and concentrates. After a few seconds, his hands start to crackle and the scientist can see the lightning appear. "Excellent, now try to manifest lightning around you."
"Around me how?"
"Like lightning bolts behind you hovering."
Hedge deactivates his electric hands, and concentrates again. Shortly after, he generates 4 lightning spears hovering behind his back.
"Perfect. You're learning how to use your semblance pretty quickly."
Hedge suddenly starts to feel woozy. "Ahh, my head."
"Are you alright?"
"I…" Hedge collapses, but before he collapses, he hears the scientist say, "Son?" In the time the scientist was unlocking Hedge's semblance, he also wiped Hedge of all his memories except for his first name. The scene shifts to the outside of the lab, and a sign that reads, "Doctor Badnic's laboratory"
10 years pass. In this time, Doctor Badnic had created 4 yellow bands for Hedge for his wrists and ankles. The young hedgehog Faunus seems to tire himself out by exerting too much lightning dust and would run out of aura relatively quickly. These four bands would allow Hedge to generate the same amount of his semblance as without them, but would drain at a shorter rate. Hedge has also had a change of attire; he has a black t-shirt with a gray V-neck spot with some fur on it, black shorts, and black and red sneakers with some white on the top part of them and gold on the lower front of the heels. Just recently for his 14th birthday, the doctor had gone ahead and given him a blue sword, as he himself uses one similarly designed as the one he gave Hedge, but with a black color. Hedge looked at the sword and was asked what to name it. "Chaos."
The new year had just passed, and Hedge has been training nonstop to better his semblance so he could utilize it to greater extents, even if it meant running himself dry of his aura. The Grimm nearby were excellent training dummies for him, as he had grown somewhat of an ego, and while he would get angry sometimes as well when he thought he wasn't gaining much progress by himself, so he would take that anger out on them, and normal training with the doctor and his sword "Destruction" would be useful to test his enhancements to physical objects for melee attacks. But Hedge has been sneaking out of his room at night to walk around the house and the doctor's lab. He has seen the doctor tinkering in his lab at times and talking to himself about his schemes he had to get back at Atlas for disgracing him, and heard that he was going to be the doctor's main weapon for his revenge. He wanted to find out more.
One night, he found paperwork about himself on one of the desks. He picks it up and reads it. In the notes, he finds that his memories were wiped, along with having been kidnapped from his family. He also learns that because he is a Faunus, he's the best "weapon" to use for the doctor's revenge. "So, that's why I'm the way I am." He grabs his head. "I'll show him." He also learns that the doctor had planned to fully control him or do away with him and he fears that Hedge has grown too strong for his liking. "This won't go the way you want it to, Doctor."
March 14th, Hedge's 15th birthday.
Hedge is in his room meditating, thinking when the Doctor is going to turn on him. For the past two months, the Doctor hasn't shown his hand yet. Hedge's scroll chimes. "Hedge, can I have you join me in the lab please? I'd like to go over a few things with you." Hedge opens his eyes and ponders if this is the Doctor's excuse to get him into a trap. He grabs Chaos and places it into its sheath on his back. When he arrives to the lab, he notices the door is completely open and the lights are off inside. "This definitely seems to be the time the Doctor is making his move," he says in his mind. He decides to spring the trap and walks inside. The door is slammed behind him and the Doctor's voice comes through on the speaker. "Apologies, Hedge, but it seems you are getting too powerful for my liking. You leave me no choice; there are only two outcomes to this. Surrender and be loyal to me forever, or defy me and die at my hand."
Hedge stays silent and closes his eyes, he smirks. "You know Doctor, at first, I thought of you as someone that had a decent heart. Smart and caring, but it was as of late that I found out that wasn't the case." He continues, "You are spiteful, and have malice in your heart. Only wanting to exact revenge on the people who casted you out. And you didn't want to do it by yourself. You wanted to use the one thing that they discriminated on, a Faunus." He opens his eyes. "But you see, even with your intellect, you haven't thought about the third outcome."
The Doctor appears from the shadows with his sword Destruction in his hand. "And what would that be?" Hedge's smirk turns into a full-on smile. Hedge then disappears with a shine of lightning dust, catching the Doctor by surprise. "What?! Where did you…"
"Splurt"
"Right here." Hedge had appeared behind the Doctor and ran him straight through with Chaos. "I must thank you. You unlocking my semblance and allowing me to enhance them these past 10 years has been very beneficial, but the things you did to me beforehand…that is where you crossed the line." He removes Chaos from the Doctor's backside, and the Doctor falls onto the ground, gasping for air. Hedge looks around and turns all the lights on. He notices a poster of Shade Academy on the wall. "To think you would try to use me as a weapon, but never thought that weapon would be used on you. I may be a Faunus, the most oppressed type of people here in Remnant, but I know the one way to change that and use my powers for good."
The Doctor turns over to lay on his back and holds himself up. He notices the poster Hedge is looking at. "You…you really think…becoming a Huntsman…would just stop all the…discrimination on you? You must…be stupid…if you think that will happen…cough."
Hedge smirks. "I may not remember my family thanks to you, but…" He turns to the Doctor and raises his hand, charging up lightning dust. "I don't think they could've shaped me into what I am now. Goodbye, Doctor."
The Doctor gasps, "Wait! Don't…!"
Without another word, Hedge blasts the Doctor with lightning, decimating and leaving no trace of his body behind, but he notices that the sword Destruction stayed intact. Hedge walks over to it and picks it up. "Hmm. If I recall correctly, Destruction here has the same attributes as Chaos. Hehe, this should come in handy."
An alarm sets off and, on the monitor, Hedge can see a massive group of Grimm approaching the lab. He looks back at the Shade Academy poster. "Two years should be just enough time to train to get into Shade." With both swords Chaos and Destruction in his hands, he walks to the lab's door. "Soon, this world shall know what the ultimate Faunus, Hedge Badnic, is made of."
