Welcome to the first volume. We jumping right in. I've already seen a follow and a review for the story, and I very much appreciate it. Any and all responses to reviews, I'll put at the end of the chapters.
Without further ado, let's jump right in.
5 years have passed since we last saw Hedge. The hedgehog Faunus is now a young man, 20 years old, and the team leader of Team HAZL, consisting of Anne Rosemary, another hedgehog Faunus, whose trait is the same as Hedge: hedgehog quills in her hair, with a hammer-type weapon that doubles as a single-shot rocket launcher, aptly named Piko (also has a bit of a crush on Hedge). Her semblance is increased movement speed on the ground. Zion Venus, a young man dressed like an old western cowboy, hat and all, with dual swords that double as high caliber dust pistols, dubbed Light and Shadow. His semblance is enhanced accuracy with his pistols, but also reacts quickly to melee attacks when using the swords. Finally, Leonidas (Leo) Darkin, a tall Dragon Faunus, whose trait (or rather traits) are the dragon scales along his arms, legs, and neck, but what's really evident is his two giant dragon wings on his back, with a giant sword named Omega. His semblance allows him to increase his sword's range of attacks, allowing him to swing off energy based slashes towards his opponents. They are starting their 4th year at Shade Academy. The past few years they have done well in the Vytal Festival Tournaments, ending with a 4th, 3rd, and 2nd place, each time Hedge being the one to go through the 1-on-1 Finals. (AN1)
For the first semester, 3 of them go off to study abroad, while Leonidas stays in Vacuo. Anne heads off to Mistral, Zion to Atlas, and Hedge heads off to Vale. Before they split off, Anne walks up to Hedge and says, "You know, I never really meant to ask, but I'm very curious about your backstory Hedge."
Hedge boards his ship and replies with his back turned, "Hehe, trust me, it's a long story." Hedge turns around and looks below as Anne and the rest of Shade Academy gets blurred in the distance as he flies off to Vale. The pilot asks Hedge what his plans are when they arrive in Vale. "Not sure yet. Never went anywhere else aside from being in Vacuo. Should be interesting to see another city, let alone a different kingdom."
Two days later
Hedge wakes up from a nap and can see the kingdom of Vale from the airship. "So, that's Vale huh? Much different from Vacuo that's for sure"
The pilot prepares for landing. "You know, I haven't heard good things about Vale lately. Lot of dust robberies have been happening lately. All I would suggest is keep your head down in town. I think those robberies have been done by the White Fang."
Hedge stands looking out to Vale. "That radical Faunus group, right? You think the people may see me as one of them."
The pilot realizes that he may have said the wrong thing. "Uh, sorry. Didn't mean that the wrong way."
"No, I know you didn't mean it to come off in a bad way. But I do think it would be quite funny if a Faunus was the one to take down a group of radical Faunus."
We moving into the show proper now. Or as show proper as can be now that Hedge is in Vale. Bit of a short chapter, but given that Volume 1 had so many chapters split into parts, I decided to replicate that, expect for some of the later chapters of the Volume (for example the Jaundice events). Another thing that might be confusing later on, I will be addressing Leonidas as "Leo," even when we get to Volume 5 and are introduced to Lionheart, since Qrow likes to address him as such. (Though I'll probably add something on the side as to how I'll truly handle that when we get there.
Onto the review
To meredinoemiliano: Thank you very much. As it is this is my first ever story. I know I mentioned in the announcement page that I'm bringing over the story from Quotev and am doing a bit of a rewrite, but this still counts as my first story. I know no writer is perfect, and they make tons of mistakes in their first drafts. Which to be honest, might be evident in how I approached the first volume. It might be noticeable how quickly I got through these chapters because when I first posted those chapters, I would put out multiple chapters in just a few days. It wasn't until Volume 2 that I started taking my time and delve more into the events. I hope you, and anyone else for that matter, can look past that and enjoy the content. Any questions though, don't hesitate to also them in any future reviews.
That's all for now, but how about a little preview?
Hedge is now in Vale, and he hopes things will go well while he's studying abroad. Will he run into any issues while here, or will he run into someone that can brighten up even the darkest of days?
AN1: I changed how the Vytal Festival is to yearly instead of every other year (I don't recall hearing it be as every other year, though that may have been stated in a WoR video). Whichever one it is, please correct me in the reviews.
