I debated on how to approach the Jaundice arc here in the rewrite. One big chapter of both parts, or like the show splitting it up. Consensus? Multiple parts but with an added story part before we get into the actual Jaundice part.
Later in the day, students started to arrive into Professor Goodwitch's combat class, and from up in the rafters, a pair of hover shoes could be seen crouched down over looking every student, the owner of said pair listening in on their conversations about an announcement their combat instructor was going to announce to them.
Goodwitch: "Alright students. Settle down." Everyone started to take their seats and listen to her. "Now, as you may or may not have heard, I have an announcement to make. Our headmaster has granted there to be an assistant to this class, so that they may oversee each and every one of your combat styles. Not only that, but they will also be providing tips on what areas to improve on if necessary." This got the students to start speaking to each other and wondering just who the assistant was going to be, while Goodwitch also did some looking around and at her watch, wondering if they were late. "Now, I would be introducing them, but I can't seem to..."
"No need to worry, Professor. I'm here." Everyone looked around wondering just where the voice came from, but then the owner of the voice jumped down from the rafters, before gently hovering down thanks to his shoes. That person being none other than Hedge.
Goodwitch: "Mr. Badnic? When did you...?"
Hedge: "I've been in here before anyone else arrived, yourself included." The deputy professor was about to question how, but then she remembered how he just randomly appeared next to herself and Ozpin the day prior on the cliff. Gesturing to the students, he asked her, "May I?" referring to introducing himself. She straightened herself and nodded to him to proceed. "Afternoon, everyone. As Professor Goodwitch mentioned, there is going to be an assistant with the class, the first after quite a few years, right?"
He turned his head towards Glynda to confirm, and it took her awhile to remember the last time there was one, and although she didn't like the memory of what team it was from, she nodded to the hedgehog Faunus to confirm he was right. Two sisters in the crowd of students knew exactly what team that was.
Hedge: "Thought so. Anywho, that assistant will be me. For those who don't know, my name is Hedge Badnic, team lead of the current 4th-year in training HAZL out of Shade Academy. I can confirm with what was stated as how I will be going about my role in the class, but adding on that I would also be running the class in case Professor Goodwitch is called for other duties outside of this class." To which she also confirmed.
"What makes you think we should listen to an animal like you?" All heads and attention then turned to the voice of a tall boy, someone even taller than Hedge, who himself was 5'10", in what looked like heavy knight armor.
Goodwitch: "Young man, I'd suggest watching your tone..."
Hedge: "Hold on, Professor." Putting his hand out, he stops the Professor before she continues on, however, knowing what type of person Hedge is, she's a little skeptical on what he has planned. "What's your name?"
Boy: "Why should I tell you?"
Hedge: "I mean you can save myself and Goodwitch here the trouble of searching your name up."
Goodwitch had already started searching the student's name on her scroll. "Winchester. Cardin Winchester."
Hedge: "I see. Well Mr. Winchester, we're already wasting precious time dealing with this fiasco, so how about a wager?"
Cardin: "What do you mean?"
Hedge: "What do I mean? Boy, do you not know where we are?" He gestures with his arms wide, referring to the large combat room they are all in. It didn't take long for the other students to catch on what their student combat assistant was referring to: challenging Winchester to a fight, and soon he too caught on.
Cardin: "Oh I see. A fight."
Hedge: "Ding ding ding. We got a winner, everybody." Everyone laughed at the theatrics that Hedge was displaying for them. "The wager is simple, you win, I do whatever you want." Some students that knew how Hedge fought started to grow grins on their faces, since aside from losing in the Vytal Festival, they knew his fighting style was unique, no one knew when they'd get hit from a random projectile thanks to his semblance.
Cardin: "Ha! That's rich! You'll regret putting that up."
Hedge: "I'm not finished. If I win, well..." He looked over at Goodwitch, and she grew a smile on her face. He knew from what he heard from Ozpin how strict she could be, even when it came to detention. He looked back at Cardin. "I can only imagine what Goodwitch would do to you in detention." Other students shivered at that thought too. They heard stories from past graduates of how the deputy professor was when it came to being strict and how things got when it came to detention.
If it was another first year they were fighting, aside from maybe Pyrrha Nikos, he'd have a chance at winning. But against a 3-time Vytal Festival Finalist? Some wished he'd just throw in the towel before the fight even began. Everyone looked over to the boy to see what his response would be.
Cardin: "You're on. I won't lose to you."
Hedge: "Better put your lien where your mouth is then, Winchester. We ain't got all day." Cardin grunted and headed off to his locker to grab his weapon.
Goodwitch: "Are you sure about this?"
Hedge: "Of course. From what I just gathered, it seems he knows little of my fighting style, but there's an extra handicap on myself."
Goodwitch: "What?!" Cardin returned to the arena with his mace in hand, and slung over his shoulder.
Cardin: "You ready for your beatdown?"
Hedge: "I'm not the one that's going to lose. But let's make things a little more interesting." He grabs Chaos and Destruction out of their sheathes. "I'm going to fight without my weapons." He hands them over to Goodwitch, whom then goes to lay them over against one of the arena's corners.
Cardin: "Really? Is that what you think I am? Not worthy to fight you at your strongest? Not that it would make such a difference."
Hedge: "Oh trust me. You don't want to fight me at my strongest. Now..." He gets into his fighting stance. "Shall we begin?"
Cardin doesn't respond verbally, but he growls in frustration that this Faunus didn't respect him to fight all out. Little did he know, Hedge had every intention of fighting all out, the only difference is that he was going to do so without his swords, and he was going to enjoy every second of it.
