Wow, 90 minutes goes by way too quickly. Sorry, this chapter is a bit shorter than the first. It was more dialogue heavy, and it turns out writing human interactions is more difficult than just setting the scene and describing stuff. Crazy.
Anyways, have a good read!
Bardock kept his gaze fixed firmly on the terrain beneath him as he flew through the air. He grit his teeth as his subconscious screamed at him to angle his gaze up to meet the moon's glow. Similar to the training that the mid-class Saiyans undergo to resist the effects of having their tail grabbed, most Saiyans learn to resist the instinctual urge to look at the moon.
All it took was focus.
Something that Bardock was struggling with immensely right now. He could comprehend where he was. He was on Earth. That was a simple, comprehensible fact. The boy had said as much. Right, the boy. Trunks. Vegeta's alleged son. Not the king. No, the prince. That was where the problems started.
Bardock was no scientist, but the implications of what that could mean weren't lost on him. He was on a planet with the son of Prince Vegeta. The same planet that he just sent his son to, and the only other Saiyan on this planet is the son of a Saiyan named Goku. A man who looked very similar to himself. He had a good idea as to who Goku was, and he also had an inkling of something else.
He was in the future. The how of it all didn't quite mesh together in Bardock's mind, and he doubted it ever would, but he knew that it must be the case.
Bardock tore his slowly rising gaze from the horizon, and brought it to Trunks, who was a few yards off to his right. He hadn't said a word since they had taken off, but he could practically feel the grief radiating from the boy. Bardock could guess who was the source of his grief, but that didn't answer the other question that he had.
"What were you doing out in those ruins?" Bardock glided closer to Trunks, not wanting to yell to be heard.
Trunks jolted, "Huh? Oh," he hesitated for a moment, then let out a breath, "It's a long story."
Bardock shrugged, "Fair enough, I'll change my question then."
That city was recently destroyed, Bardock had no doubt in his heart that it hadn't been more than twenty-four hours since that place had been attacked. And judging by Trunks's behavior, whatever it was had likely almost killed Gohan, a fully grown Saiyan. Even the lowest of the low-class should be able to wipe the inhabitants of this planet out without breaking a sweat. So then…
"What attacked that city?"
"The Androids," he said through clenched teeth. Trunks's hands balled into fists as he glared off into the distance. "They came out of nowhere thirteen years ago, and just started killing people. They started with my father and Gohan's friends, and just kept going from there."
Something that could kill the strongest of our race came from this backwater planet? Bardock took a moment to respond, digesting the new information, but Trunks continued before he could respond.
"Gohan's been fighting them ever since, but he's only ever been able to delay them," Trunks said. "There's two of them, a brother and a sister, and they always fight together. Always gang up on Gohan. If he could just be alone with one of them, I know he could win. If I was strong enough to distract one of them, he could win. If I was stronger, I-"
"Enough," Bardock cut him off. "Saiyans don't worry about weakness, they overcome it." He tapped his temple. "Victory at any cost. That is the only thing a Saiyan needs to think about."
Trunks mumbled something under his breath, too quiet for Bardock to hear.
"What was that?"
"Nothing," Trunks replied. "We're here."
Bardock shrugged as he followed Trunks's descent. The pair approached what must have been Trunks's residence. A large yellow hemisphere with towers protruding from it, and smaller hemispheres surrounding it. It was oddly reminiscent of the houses on Planet Vegeta.
They touched down on a cement path, and Trunks walked forward to unlock the door.
"Wait here, I'll get mother," Trunks said as he opened the door.
Bardock raised an eyebrow. "You're not letting me in?"
"I will after I give her a heads up," Trunks replied. "Your appearance might shock her, and that could end really poorly if she's actively operating on Gohan."
"Fine, do what you need to do, just don't take too long," Bardock said, shooing the boy away.
Trunks offered a half-hearted thumbs up behind the door.
Keep your eyes on the door, Bardock. Ignore that damned beautiful moon.
And that's all for now. Expect an update within the next 7 days, when that is is left up to chance, and how nice my professors are feeling this week.
If any of you are curious about what Trunks mumbled, it was, "That's rich coming from someone as weak as you."
Dude's a little sassy. On the topic of power, I always liked in DBZ-fics when authors included character's power levels at certain milestones, so I think I'll do the same. And just a reminder, this is Minus Bardock, so no 10k power level.
Power Levels:
Gohan: 3.8 Million - 190 Million (SSJ)
Trunks: 60,000
Bardock: 2,300 - 23,000 (Oozaru)
Another note, the narration is based on Bardock's knowledge, so take some things with a grain of salt.
