Chapter 10
"Katakuri! It's good to see you again. Shishishi!" A young strawhat wearing kid happily greeted the other man.
"Strawhat, what did you do?" Katakuri looked at Luffy and inquired. "What ended up happening on that island? The last thing I remember is arriving and heading towards the middle and then some explosions happened and next I know is I wake up at the Whole Cast Island in the past!"
Luffy gave the man a big smile and answered, "When we got to Laugh tale the Marines did everything in their power to stop us. When we got to the middle of the Island, there was a building and I was dragged in. We met Roger and he made it possible for us to have a do over."
Katakuri stayed silent, processing over the bit of information, before nodding his head.
"Hey brat!" Whitebeard who was listening over the conservation called out to the eldest son of Linlin and asked a very serious question. "Does Linlin know you are here?"
"Yes but also no." Katakuri replied to Whitebeard. "She saw in the newspaper that you and Red hair have been spotted in the East Blue so she sent me over to investigate. I'm not going to tell her about any of this though. Mama uses fear to control and I don't like that. I want to be a part of a better world than that!"
Whitebeard blinked at the answer before a huge grin took over his face. "Welcome to the family, my son!"
Those who were within earshot shouted in joy.
Luffy then had an idea pop into his head and excitedly vocalized, "Hey Katakuri! You can be the judge. You haven't been here so you should be able to do it fairly."
Katakuri was taken aback and confused. "A judge what do you mean? What's going on?"
Luffy put on a serious face and began to explain everything from his current life and the previous life.
Katakuri was astonished at the pure stupidity of the group of pirates and couldn't get his expression off of his face.
Luffy inquired, "What's wrong?"
Katakuri remained silent for a bit then spoke up, "I cannot believe the sheer stupidity of these people. You would think they would recognize the Whitebeards' mark on his crew? Moreover, Red Hair Shanks also isn't just a no name pirate."
Shanks sputtered and his crew started laughing at their captains expense. Those who heard this burst up laughing and nodded on their agreement to this statement.
Meanwhile at Marineford
A certain afro wearing man was sitting in his office holding a den den mushi in one hand and the other hand rubbing his forehead in frustration.
The den den mushi continued ringing and was finally picked up by the said old marine, Sengoku.
"Garp, why aren't you back yet? Have you heard that your son has been spotted in the East Blue along with Red Hair and Newgate?!" Sengoku tiredly asked while rubbing his temples.
"About that, Senny, you and Kuzan need to come to the East Blue." Garp sheepishly chuckled to his friend.
Sengoku froze at the answer for a moment and hurriedly held the snail. "Wait! Garp wha-"
"Sorry, Sunny, duty calls. I got to go." Before Sengoku could even finish his sentence, Garp interrupted him and hung up on him.
Click.
Sengoku was dumbfounded for a moment before he started reflecting on what just happened. His face turned red and steam started erupting from his ears as he shouted at the top of his lungs. "GGGGAAAAAAARRRRRRRRPPPPPPP!"
Back on Dawn Island
"Let's go!" Luffy stated, grabbing Katakuri by his hands.
Ace hurried over there and bonked Luffy on the head, dragging the youngest away from the crowd to have a private chat.
"Lu! What are you doing?!" Ace asked once they were out of everyone's earshot. "He is Big Mom's commander in the future. Are you sure we can trust him?!"
"Shishishi! Ace is stupid. Of course, we can trust him! We met and fought in our past life and I gained his respect that day." Luffy replied with his signature grin as he reminisced his fight with the commander.
"Fine, baby brother. If there's anyone's judgement when it comes to people, then I trust yours above everyone's." Ace let out a slow breath of relief and stated, ruffling Luffy's hair a bit.
Luffy gave Ace a wide grin and hopped back to everyone else.
"Let's go guys! We will begin this trial!" Luffy announced, looking at Katakuri. Everyone nodded and they made way to the jailhouse that Franky built in record time.
"We are going to start this trail!" Luffy loudly spoke, gathering everyone's attention, once they reached inside. "Katakuri is going to be the judge. Any questions?"
"Are you going to give them their past memories and judge them on that also?" Sabo asked raising his hand.
"Well, I don't mind doing that but you are the judge." Luffy thought about it and answered, looking at Katakuri. "So, I'm going to leave that decision up to you."
Katakuri mulled it over in his head and remained silent for a bit before finally giving his opinion. "Well, what do you guys think? I'm going to have the grand fleet captain's vote for it."
Katakuri looked at Whitebeard, Shanks, Garp and Dragon and inquired, "Are you guys a part of the Strawhat Grand fleet or are you guys still separate?"
The two pirate captains looked at each other, having a silent conversation, before simultaneously replying their answer.
"Both!"
Katakuri blinked and nodded his head. "Well I will have you guys join the vote also then." He provided, before turning his attention to the gathered crowd. "All those in favor of getting the memories of their last life and also being judged on that, raise your hand."
The vote was unanimous in favor at the end.
Luffy got up from his seat and walked over to the ones who agreed and touched all of them one by one. By doing this, he gave them all their other life memories. Almost everyone of them gulped after the revelation of the two timelines guilty of their behaviors.
"The pirate's court is now in session. May God have mercy on your souls." Katakuri prayed before starting the session.
All of a sudden, Zoro couldn't take it anymore of the drama and burst out laughing loudly. He had tried to stifle his laughter but failed miserably at the end of it.
"What's so funny, mosshead? It's time to be serious!" Sanji looked at Zoro and coldly asked.
"Sorry guys for the interruption." Zoro stated with a tick mark on his head, as he looked around him. "In our past life, we went to Skypeia and met God and Luffy kicked his ass out of there."
The Straw hat pirates that were a part of the crew at that time reminisced on the memory of that adventure.
"That's quite alright." Katakuri guffawed. "Just try to restrain yourself, alright?"
Zoro blushed away in embarrassment and nodded in agreement.
"I'm calling Ace and Sabo to come up and give their reports on what happened in their past life." Katakuri called out after clearing his throat.
The two brothers walked over and started giving their accounts of the past from Luffy getting beaten by Porchemy to the Grey Terminal fire. Luffy in a matter of fact bestowed these memories on them.
Next, Makino and Lami recalled over what they had. The more they talked the more the crowd had the look of disgust and disdain in their eyes. The jury came to a verdict really quick and it was called guilty.
"Take them back to the cells. I will have their sentence decided in an hour. I ask the main captain's to stick around because I have an idea." Katakuri announced. The captain's looked at each other and nodded as their answer.
"From what I have gathered and understood the ones that have done the worst are already taken care. Correct?" Katakuri asked.
"Yes, the two that did the most have already departed from their lives." Whitebeard answered to Katakuri.
"I'm not saying that they are blameless but I also think Blueham ran his crew with fear instead of loyalty." Katakuri gave his point of view. "I myself used to be cold hearted and not care about most people. That is until I met Luffy and we fought in the Whole Cake Island. After I met him, I began to change. So, what if we give them a second chance like we have gotten?"
The captain's were completely against at it first but the more they mulled over it in their heads, they agreed with Katakuri's decision.
"There is going to be multiple construction projects coming up, right?" Katakuri inquired.
"Yeah, bro! We have done some but we are going to start some new ones. Not mentioning the surrounding walls." Franky answered.
"I think I'm going to put them on a probationary period. they will have to earn their keep. When they are not working they will stay in their jail cells. The probation will last a year. Does anyone have any questions regarding it?" Katakuri devised and asked the audience.
"How will we know if they changed?" Nami asked unsurely as she raised her hands.
Katakuri put his hand on his chin in thought before replying, "Well that's simple! Throughout the year, we come up with secret tests to see if they're changing for the better."
Everyone around nodded in understanding.
"What if they change for the better and what if they don't?" Whitebeard asked one of the most important question.
"If they change for the better they will have a place here. If they are still stupid and don't change, well any volunteers." Katakuri answered with a slight smirk at the end of his sentence.
The crowd got the meaning and got a devilish grin on their faces.
"Bring them out for their sentence!" Katakuri spoke up again.
A few moments later the prisoners came back out and were forced to kneel down.
"You lot have been found guilty and therefore, I sentence you to one year of probation." Katakuri announced, looking down at the prisoners. "Within this year, you will help out with construction and other tasks. When you are not working you will remain in the jail cells. After a year, we will see what progress each of you made."
"You mean your not just going to kill us? What if we try to escape?" One of the convicted pirates inquired with wide eyes.
The new world veterans burst up laughing at that.
"I mean if you think you can take us and all of our crews on be my guest." Katakuri spoke with a smirk. "But I bet you guys have never even heard of Haki?" He raised his arm and turned it to a black metallic sheen to show the prisoners.
The poor prisoners looked around at the other pirates and gulped before nodding and resigning to their fates.
