Chapter 4
The ball
The Renard manor was full of young men trying to appease the elder of the house. And that meant coming to these balls. His company was well known on the east coast and Europe. They wanted to do business with him, which led back to the purpose of the ball.
"I don't understand, Vogel. Why isn't anyone talking to Janine?" He asked.
"She is a wild spirit, sir." Vogel answered.
"It's like they don't want to be the same room as her." Renard huffed.
Janine, better known as Fox, was sitting on the lounging chair. She wore her beloved maroon dress with the black skirt. Her neck cover in delicate gold chains. She'd done up her hair in a high bun with an ornamental piece holding it in place. Her hair was too long to be fully done up by hand so an amount of it was draped near her neck. She sipped her flute of champagne. The door to the ballroom opened. Xanatos unfortunately still fit the bill of eligible bachelor. He wore a black dress coat, white ruffled shirt and maroon pants. A black hat with a red feather stuck out of the brim sat on his head. The cane was superfluous. He was followed by Owen, in his customary navy suit. Xanatos made his way to Fox. He smiled and kissed her hand.
"You're late." She told him.
"I was working with an especially stubborn machine, my dear." He sat opposite of her.
"The only person who would be glad if you missed this ball would be Daddy." She smoothed her skirt.
"I know you'd get bored without me." Xanatos grinned.
"Guilty as charged." She purred, playing with her locket.
"Did your visit go well?" He asked.
"David, you know talk of the Pack makes Daddy upset." Fox sighed.
"You're right. My apologizes." He soothed.
"I wish he would let us get married already. No one else here is you." She pouted.
"In time, Fox, all in due time. Shall we dance?" He stood and held out his hand. She took it and let him lead her away.
I'm not really sure where to take this story next. This isn't a retelling of Gargoyles. It's a look into this world in particular. So I'll mark this as complete for now and add chapters if I have any new ideas.
