Eve was pacing. She knew she was and she knew it was upsetting Matt...but she had to wait. Had to wait for Caroline to get out of surgery to be able to slip her some blood...Truthfully, after the night the town just had, she knew everyone was on high alert for vampires. Or, at least, everyone who knew about them...Matt's sigh made Eve pause her pacing and look over at him. He was staring at her, looking annoyed before gesturing towards the chair beside him.

"I can't sit." Eve muttered back. "I'll do dat annoyin' leg bouncin' ding and honestly, do ya want dat instead?" Eve asked, folding her arms. Matt looked down and sighed before he put his head in his hands. Eve bit the inside of her cheek before walking over and sitting beside him.

"I just…" Matt muttered, keeping his head in his hands for a moment. "I want to be closer to her." Matt mumbled, his voice soft in his hands. "I don't like being out in the waiting room like...like I don't even know her." Matt said, his voice cracking. Eve sighed, feeling her brows furrow in empathy towards the boy.

"Let me see what I can do." Eve said, looking up at the reception desk. "I bet I could get us two seats outside her room." Eve smiled, nudging Matt. Matt looked back over at her, his eyes red from crying silent tears. Eve's heart ached for a moment, looking at him. "I'm real compellin'." Eve said gently, patting his arm and standing up. Eve walked over to the reception desk and waited while the nurse continued typing something. Eve let out a small cough to get her attention.

"Dear, I've already told the boy sitting beside you that we can't let you back there." The nurse said gently. Eve waited for a moment longer until she finally looked up.

"Yer goin' ta let Caroline's closest friends wait outside her room." Eve said quietly, compelling the woman. The woman straightened herself up. "Her mom's de Sherif, after all." Eve shrugged, the last part was more so to get the woman out of any trouble if she was asked about her abrupt change of heart. The woman simply nodded back. "So, can ya take us back dere?" Eve asked, nodding towards the sliding electric doors where Liz had disappeared behind. The woman looked around the waiting room for a moment before she stood up.

"Of course." The woman smiled, still looking a little cautious. "But let's hurry. It's just me right now so I don't want to leave the station for a very long time." The woman explained, walking out from around the desk. Eve smiled and walked over to Matt, tapping his shoulder. Matt turned around and looked, raising an eyebrow back at Eve.

"Come on." Eve smiled, nodding her head towards where the nurse was waiting. Matt blinked a few times, confusion setting in before he quickly stood up and walked over to the nurse. The nurse took them past the electric doors in a hurry, looking behind her shoulder once more before leaving the waiting room and fast walking down the hall. Luckily, Caroline's room wasn't too far into the hospital. The nurse quickly pulled two chairs and placed them beside the empty and dark room before giving a polite smile and rushing back to her station. Matt stood silent, looking into the dark room before turning back towards Eve.

"Care always said you had this trick where you could get whatever you wanted from people." Matt chuckled softly before he sat down on the chair, closest to her room's door. Eve gave back a soft smile.

"It's not dat hard when yer good at manipulatin' people." Eve shrugged innocently, causing a concerned look to flash across Matt's face. Eve only snickered and looked down the hallways. "I'm goin' ta get some snacks. Ya want anythin'?" Eve asked, pointing towards a vending machine at the end of the hall. Matt sighed and shook his head. "Great, I'll grab ya somethin' sweet." Eve said. Matt let out a small sigh as Eve patted him on the shoulder and began walking towards the vending machine. As Eve got to the vending machine, the buzzing of her phone brought her attention to it. Liz. Eve answered the call. "Is everythin' okay?" Eve asked as she pull the phone to her ear.

"Yeah...Yeah, everything is going well so far…" Liz replied back softly. Eve let out a sigh of air at the news. "Where did you and Matt go?" Liz asked. Eve felt herself suck in the air she had just let out.

"Dere was a real nice nurse at de reception dat's let us wait by her room." Eve replied back feeling a knot begin to form in her stomach. Eve could almost feel the confusion that washed over Liz...Way to really sell the fact that Eve "wasn't" a vampire...That nurse had been very strict...or had it been another nurse? Hopefully it was the latter. Liz let out a small sigh.

"I let Elena know. I don't have Bonnie's number, so I was wondering if you had it." Liz explained why she had called. Eve almost laughed.

"No I don't. Sorry." Eve apologized. "I'm gettin' some snacks from a vendin' machine, do ya want anythin'?" Eve asked, changing the subject before Liz hung up. A sigh, nearly the same sounding as Matt's, left Liz's mouth. "I'll pick somethin'." Eve suggested, looking at the contents of the vending machine.

"Liz." Eve froze as she heard the familiar voice on the other end. "I came as soon as I got the message. Is she okay?" Damon asked, sounding genuinely concerned. Eve ended the call with a groan, looking back at the vending machine.

Part of her was relieved. Relieved to know that Damon wasn't dead. Part of her was tired. Tired of chasing after the man for him to become bored of her. It was her turn to be bored of him. Bored of his constant need to be babysat. Bored of his obsession with Katherine. Bored with how it was never going to be her. Perhaps it was time to put their friendship to rest…

Damon let his mind spin for a moment as he drove to the hospital. Maybe it wasn't Katherine and Elena had gotten the news of Caroline and didn't want to talk about it...Or she was drained from the day and didn't feel like emoting so vividly...All the proof he had was little things that could possibly be explained. The only thing he couldn't explain was the kiss. It...didn't feel like he expected it would. Sure, his stomach did a flip, but there weren't any extraordinary fireworks. Nothing that really gave it a big jolt of emotions that he expected to happen... Damon sighed as he continued to drive. Expected.

Damon knew, in the back of his head, he was attracted to Elena...and not even that deep down, he knew he would kiss her...but now, even just the thought made his heart clench. Eve. Eve always made him guilty for feeling things...well...certain feelings. And they were usually towards other people. Damon let himself huff as he turned into the hospital's parking lot.

Maybe if Eve hadn't been called to come babysit him, he wouldn't feel such a guilt. It wasn't like he was the one who leaned forward first...He did kiss Elena on the cheek, but she leaned to kiss him on the mouth...but he didn't pull away. Not until his phone rang and the devil herself was waiting for him to answer. Even just parking, he felt a twisted feeling in his gut. She hadn't even asked if he was okay after the whole fire thing he went to...But he hadn't apologized to her about what he said when he was angry in the alley. Damon leaned his head backwards against his headrest for a moment. Apologizing was the worst...even for her. Damon let himself mope for a moment longer before pulling himself from the car and walking towards the hospital.

As he entered the waiting room, Liz was standing at the desk on her phone.

"Liz." Damon announced as he slowly walked over to her. She slowly lowered her phone from her ear as she turned around. "I came as soon as I got the message. Is she okay?" Damon asked, genuinely concerned as he saw the look on her face. She was terrified…

"She's in surgery, it's…" Liz trailed off, glancing at her phone. "They're doing everything they can." Liz said with a sad smile, obviously shoving down her emotions to talk with him. "I need your help, Damon." Liz said seriously. Damon nodded away from the desk. Lize turned around to get away from the desk.

"Sure, anything Liz." Damon said putting his hand on her back and pulling her from the nosy reception desk.

"Mayor Lockwood is dead." Liz said in a soft whisper. Damon nodded, pretending to be surprised and as if he hadn't seen the man get his neck snapped. "They thought he was a vampire. They put him in the basement!" Liz said, trying to keep her voice down. Damon folded his arms, faking a confused look.

"Mayor Lockwood was a vampire?" Damon asked seriously. Liz quickly shook her head.

"No, no, no! A mistake was made!" Liz said, her eyes beginning to brim with tears. Damon almost groaned at the human emotion. "They said he dropped like the others when John's device went off but he…" Liz trailed off and went silent as someone passed them. "He couldn't have been a vampire!" Liz stated, her tone raising before she shook her head. "I've known the man my whole life…" Liz stated seriously. "And…" Liz began but trailed off, her eyes dropping to the floor. Damon's brows furrowed at the change.

"And? And what?" Damon asked as gently as he could. Liz let herself sigh before looking back up at him.

"Eve was affected by the noise as well." Liz explained. Damon's brows furrowed further. Now he was genuinely surprised. Damon shook his head for a moment, but before he could ask any questions, Liz continued. "I know...I know Eve is your friend…" Liz began, but Damon didn't like where it was going. "But do you trust-" Damon quickly cut her off.

"You said you've known the Mayor your whole life, right?" Damon asked, his arms dropping to his sides. "I may not have known Eve that...that long, but I trust her. More than anybody." Damon explained, gently holding onto Liz's arms, trying not to laugh at the irony of how long they had actually known each other...Before Liz's grandparents were even alive. Liz let out a small sigh and nodded.

"Carol Lockwood is gonna want answers…" Liz said, changing the subject from Eve. "And all I can think of right now is Caroline...and-and I-" Liz choked out before she began crying. Damon pulled the woman into a hug as she continued to cry.

"Hey, it's okay." Damon reassured her, gently rubbing her back before his eyes caught Eve's. "It's okay." Damon said softly once more to Liz, but his eyes stayed glued to Eve. Eve looked at Liz with such soft and sad eyes...Damon nearly pushed Liz away so he could comfort Eve...but he knew Eve would scowl at the action.

"I brought twizzlers." Eve announced. Damon blinked, thankful to be out of the hug. Liz sniffled and rubbed her eyes before turning back to Eve and giving a gentle smile. "I didn't dink ya would want de twinkie." Eve said, shaking the yellow snack in her other hand. "Matt didn't want it either." Eve huffed. "Even after I threw it at him." Eve said with a pout. Liz let out a soft laugh as Damon forced himself to not instantly gravitate towards the short, red haired woman...despite wanting to so badly.

"He probably didn't want it because you threw it at him." Liz chastised as Eve handed her the small packet of twizzlers. "Give it to me. I'll go give it to him...like an adult." Liz sassed gently making Eve stick her tongue out at the older woman playfully, tossing the other snack at her. Damon's heart fluttered at the childish action.

Eve turned and watched as Liz walked away...and hesitated to turn back around. Damon took a step towards her...and then another. He watched as she stood still for a moment before letting out a sigh and turning around to greet him. He wasn't greeted like he normally was. No sparkling eyes, no smile...just a folded pair of arms and a serious look.

"Glad yer not dead."

"I'm sorry."

The two spoke over each other. Damon watched as Eve blinked, confused by what he had said.

"About the alley...I've...I was…" Damon sputtered out, his mind going blank as he stared down at her.

"I don't want ta hear it." Eve stated, raising her hand and stopping Damon from his bumbling apology. Damon's heart fluttered as he watched Eve open her mouth and quickly shut it before she looked around and pulled him further away from people. In any other moment, Damon would have made a flirty comment, but something about how Eve was acting was different...colder. Eve pulled Damon down a hall and into an empty room, shutting the door behind him and locking it. Even with Eve being mad, Damon felt his heart flutter in his chest.

"I mean, hospitals are the most sanitary place to-" Damon got out, not even stopping himself from making at least one comment.

"Don't." Eve snapped back. Despite the darkness of the room, Damon could still see the hint of a blush against her ears. "I'm tired, Damon." Eve grumbled, rubbing her temples as she began to pace the room. Eve shot him a glare before he could even mutter anything else out. "I'm tired of...of always bein' yer personal punchin' bag." Eve snapped, pausing her pacing to stare back at him. Damon felt his chest tighten. "Stefan is a friend, Damon." Eve stated seriously. The sudden jealousy that hit him nearly made him cough from the sudden restriction he felt in his lungs. "And did ya ever dink ta wonder if de reason I haven't told ya what Isobel said ta me behind de bar was because Stefan sired me not ta?" Eve snapped, pointing her finger back at him. "I'm so sick of bein' de one who comes and pulls yer head out of yer ass because Katherine made ya feel sad." Eve hissed. Damon ignored the growing pit in his stomach as he remembered the kiss he shared with Elena...and how it could have been Katherine. "I'm sick of how ya make me feel." Eve muttered, her shoulders slightly sagging. Damon blinked at the comment before looking at her with confusion.

"I think I make you pretty happy." Damon muttered out, more sounding like he was reassuring himself rather than the angry woman in front of him. Eve let out a shrill of a laugh that tore through Damon's chest like a knife.

"Happy? Happy?!" Eve snapped, suddenly right in front of him. "I'm nearly screamin' at ya in a hospital room, how happy do ya dink I am?!" Eve hissed, glaring up at him. Her eyes were beginning to water… "Ya dink I want ta-ta feel like I'm-I'm always just a backup plan?" Eve said softly, nearly inaudible.

"Evie, you're not-" Damon got out before Eve's glare cut his short.

"No, no." Eve said, shaking her head. "Do not lie ta me, Damon Salvatore." Eve snapped, folding her arms. The use of his full name made his chest constrict again. "Tell me ta my face dat de only reason we're even friends is because ya were bored." Eve growled staring back at him. "Tell me our friendship didn't start off because ya felt bad yer brother turned me." Eve hissed, beginning to pace again. "Tell me ya kept me around because ya got used ta de idea dat someone could relieve your boredom while you waited DECADES to find a way inta dat tomb dat yer long lost manipulative lover wasn't even IN!" Eve snapped loudly, her arms gesturing as she nearly yelled at him. Damon felt his fists ball up.

"Eve I-" Damon got out before being quickly interrupted.

"Honestly Damon, just tell me why ya kept me around at all." Eve hissed, glaring at him. "Because I was a vampire? Dat I could live ferever keepin' ya entertained whenever ya wanted? Is dat all I am ta ya, Damon? Entertainment when ya get bored?" Eve asked, her volume finally dying down as she stood facing away from him...Damon stood silent for a moment, absorbing all of Eve's pent up frustration with him, anger...hatred. Before he could reply, Eve let out a soft laugh. "Dis silence...is so much more deafenin' dan I was prepared fer." Eve muttered quietly to herself. "Dat's all I am ta ya...truely." Eve said, turning around. Damon's heart nearly shattered as he saw the soft tears that were running down her cheeks from the moonlight that barely lit up the room. "A play ding." Eve muttered. "Isobel told me Alistair was goin' ta come give me a visit." Eve stated, staring back at Damon. The conversation was already a rollercoaster of a ride, but...now he understood the sudden paranoia she had... "She called me yer little 'play ding' and told me about Alistair's visit." Eve stated. Damon stood, frozen in his spot, staring at her. He didn't know when to cut in...didn't know what all to say... "When Caroline wakes up, I'm goin' ta give her some of me blood and leave." Eve stated, her words quivering with each syllable. "I dink...it's getting to de end of de rivalry. It's either him er me." Eve muttered softly, walking towards Damon but keeping her head down. "I hope ya can be happy, Day." Eve said as she got right next to him and opened the door. Damon's heart finally jump started as he whipped around and shut the door, grabbing and pulling Eve into a hug.

Damon felt his heart begin to break as he held her in his arms and she didn't hold him back.

"There's...there's a lot I want to say." Damon muttered softly into her hair. "I know that a simple 'sorry' won't cut it." Damon continued gently, pulling away from her. Tears were streaming down her face now. Damon cupped her cheeks, trying to rub them away the best he could. "My brother may have turned and accidentally sired you, but you sired me." Damon said. "By the time I got you home, I knew I was-" Damon cut himself off...even now, he couldn't be fully honest...Damon let himself give a soft huff. "I didn't feel bad that my brother turned you and left. I felt bad that he didn't get to stay and see you grow into a kickass vampire." Damon smiled, his heart slowly warming at the soft chuckle from Eve. "Plus, you are great for entertainment. Who else could I go on a murder spree with if I wanted." Damon smiled as Eve puffed out a laugh. "But at the end of the day, it's not the murder or mayhem that keeps me coming back. It's your smile and laugh and eyes and just...you. You made me love you." Damon said, feeling his heart nearly stop as the words fell out of his mouth so easily. Eve looked at him only for a moment before she pulled herself back...the room feeling sour once more. Eve rubbed her face of the remaining tears.

"I just want ya ta be happy, Damon." Eve muttered softly. "And…" Her voice cracked for only a moment. "And if dat means fallin' in love with a Katherine doppelganger...I can't approve of it." Eve shook her head. "Elena is Stefan's girlfriend, Damon." Eve stated looking back up at him with soft eyes...Guilt began to eat at his stomach as the memory of kissing Elena...or possibly Katherine came to his mind. "I just...I can't get behind it." Eve muttered, shaking her head.

"What about you?" Damon asked, nearly doubling over when Eve raised an eyebrow back at him.

"What about me?" Eve asked so quickly, Damon felt as if he had whiplash.

"Could I get behind you?" Eve let out a soft chuckle, filling Damon's heart with warmth. Eve turned around sarcastically.

"Ya already are." Eve sassed aloud. Damon let himself chuckle and walk up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Maybe...one day ya can rid yerself of her poison." Eve said, turning her head up to try and look at him. Damon pulled Eve closer to him, so she couldn't see his face. "Dere has ta be some kind of antidote." Eve muttered, leaning gently back against him. Damon breathed in. The antidote was in his arms...but he had refused to take his medicine. And someday...Eve wouldn't be there waiting for him...

Eve still didn't feel better. Yelling at Damon. Avoiding Damon. Nothing was easing her heart. And maybe Damon wasn't the issue. Caroline was still in surgery and Liz hadn't called yet to do any updates. Eve and Damon were walking to go towards Caroline's room when Eve heard Elena.

"How's Caroline?" Eve listened in as the two got closer to Caroline's room.

"She's weak." Bonnie's voice replied. "They don't know if she's going to make it." Bonnie stated. Eve took a breath in at her words. Damon looked down at her and gently squeezed her hand. Eve was still tense...still...mad at Damon, despite his ridiculously honest speech he gave after Eve had torn him a new one.

"What?" Eve now saw Elena and Bonnie as the two turned a corner. Damon kept his hand in hers. "Is there something that you can do? Like a spell or something?" Elena asked, holding onto Bonnie's hands, begging.

"She doesn't know how…" Damon muttered aloud, letting go of Eve's hand and walking over to the two. Eve hesitated to follow, despite Damon's quick look behind him.

"No. I don't." Bonnie muttered lowly.

"No. You don't." Damon snarked back at her. "Because it took Emily years to learn a spell like that." Damon sassed back at Bonnie. Eve let out a sharp sigh as she walked to Damon's side.

"Well, I can take down a vampire." Bonnie stated back cooly, glaring back at Damon as Elena put her hand to her head. "That spell was easy to learn." Bonnie muttered, only glancing over at Eve...her expression softened. Progress. Damon leaned towards Elena.

"I can give Caroline some blood." Damon muttered. Eve's brows furrowed.

"Dat was me plan, ya prick." Eve muttered aloud, smacking Damon's arm. Damon hissed back and looked back at Eve.

"No." Elena stated back firmly. "No way." Eve couldn't help the sudden scoffed out laugh. That earned a good glare from Elena.

"Well, de queen has spoken." Eve sassed, bowing down a little towards Elena before quickly standing up straight. "Oh wait. I don't give a shi-"

"Eve." Damon muttered back, quickly interrupting her. "Elena, it would just be enough to heal her. She's safe here in the hospital and it will be out of her system in a day." Damon said, turning his attention back towards Elena.

"It's too risky, I can't agree to that." Elena stated. Eve noticed Bonnie glance her way before interrupting the two.

"Do it." Bonnie stated. Elena looked taken back by the comment. "This is Caroline. We can't let her die." Bonnie said firmly, staring back at Elena, who still looked upset and betrayed.

"Two friends against one." Eve chimed in happily. Now both Bonnie and Elena had the same uncomfortable looks. Eve nearly chuckled.

"If I do this, you and me, call a truce?" Damon butted in, looking over at Bonnie. Bonnie scoffed back at him and folded her arms.

"No. Because you aren't going to be the one who does it." Bonnie sassed back. Elena and Damon looked confused by the declaration. "Eve will." Bonnie said, nodding back at Eve. Eve blinked once before smiling back at the confused Elena and Damon. "Do you really trust him to save Caroline when he obviously was abusive when they were together?" Bonnie growled back at Elena. Eve tensed at the subject and Damon flinched, looking back at Eve.

"Good point. However," Damon said, raising a finger to add onto the conversation. "If I did it, I could compel her to forget and not feel bad about it." Damon added. Eve tensed up. She hadn't even thought about having to compel Caroline to forget. Her conscience still wasn't clean from when she had to do it in New York… "Then would it be a truce?" Damon asked, wiggling his eyebrows at her. Bonnie stared back at him, stone faced. Eve bit back a laugh.

"No." Bonnie chirped back. "Eve, can I talk with you?" Bonnie asked, turning her attention towards Eve. Eve glanced back at Damon before she nodded. Bonnie began walking away from the two. Eve followed. The two walked a good way before Bonnie stopped. "What is going on between them?" Bonnie asked, abruptly halting her warpath. Eve stopped just a foot behind her and raised an eyebrow.

"Between dem?" Eve asked, gaining an annoyed look from Bonnie as she folded her arms.. "Not too sure." Eve stated truthfully, but Bonnie still looked annoyed. "Listen, I was in New York fer a week with Caroline." Eve muttered, folding her arms back at Bonnie.

"But you can sense it?" Bonnie asked hesitantly. Eve let out a sharp sigh.

"Bonnie...do...do ya know who Katherine is?" Eve asked. Bonnie froze for a moment before shrugging a little.

"I've...heard of her. But just passing whispers…" Bonnie muttered. "I heard she was a doppelganger of Elena...and why Damon wanted to get into that tomb." Bonnie trailed off, sounding both bitter and heartbroken at the mentioning of the tomb.

"Dat's why I showed up." Eve sighed, watching as Bonnie blinked back her emotions...like a human. She was a witch, but witches were still human, and despite her best efforts, Eve could still see a sadness in her eyes. "Damon was...poutin'." Eve muttered. "He was poutin' because Katherine wasn't in de tomb." Eve explained quietly, not wanting others to be listening in and become curious. "Stefan called me ta come make sure he didn't snap and kill a bunch of people." Eve shrugged, continuing her explanation of why she was there. "Katherine was de one dat turned both Stefan and Damon. Damon was in love with her, but Katherine was in love with Stefan more." Eve told the story, knowing that venom was starting to seep into her tone. "She sort of just used de two when she wanted." Eve muttered. Bonnie gave a nod back.

"So...isn't it like...a little weird that Stefan is dating Elena then?" Bonnie asked after a moment to process the information she was given.

"Yes!" Eve stated, clapping her hands together and making a few people look over at the two. Eve gave an apologetic wave back at them while Bonnie gently laughed.

"So like, Damon now has a crush on Elena then or has he always had a thing for her?" Bonnie asked, curiosity getting the best of her. Eve let out a small sigh.

"I don't dink de whole time, but Stefan had ta detox himself, so de two spent a week, alone, together." Eve shrugged lightly, annoyed at the ache in her heart. Bonnie looked back at her sympathetically. "Witches can't read minds." Eve stated aloud, squinting her eyes back at Bonnie.

"You're right, but I can read body language." Bonnie sassed back. Eve let out a long groan, dramatically letting her head fall backwards. "Why don't you just make him leave with you?" Bonnie asked as Eve let her head go back to where it had been. "I don't really see...the best in him...but I've seen how you two interact." Bonnie said with a slight scowl on her face. Eve raised an eyebrow back at her. "Oh please. Whenever I've seen you two in public together, it's a whole bunch of PDA." Bonnie sassed back. Eve let herself snort.

"Katherine..." Eve stated simply, jumping out of her skin when someone grabbed her arm. Eve whipped around and looked up at a frantic looking Damon.

"What did you say?" Damon asked, his brows furrowed. Eve pulled her arm from Damon's grip.

"What's goin' on?" Eve asked as Damon blinked at suddenly not holding onto Eve's arm. Damon let out a small huff, giving Bonnie a sarcastic smile before gently grabbing hold of Eve's wrist and pulling her away from Bonnie.

"You said Katherine." Damon stated lowly, looking behind Eve quickly. Eve raised an eyebrow, glancing behind her as well.

"What...what about her?" Eve asked, confused by the situation. Elena was now beside Bonnie and talking with her. Damon bit the inside of his cheek, looking back at Elena. "Damon." Eve stated, pulling his attention back down to her. "What about Katherine?" Eve asked, becoming slightly annoyed at the secrecy.

"She's here. In Mystic Falls." Damon stated quickly. Eve blinked before a slow smile slipped across her lips. "Eve-"

"Oh?" Eve asked, ignoring Damon's attempt to keep talking. "Where at? I'd love ta have a chat." Eve stated, words barely escaping her clenched teeth. Damon rolled his eyes.

"You tried to have a 'talk' with Pearl and you ended up getting kidnapped." Damon snarked back with a frown. "If you try and have a 'talk' with Katherine, you won't be alive to save." Damon chastised. Eve rolled her eyes as Elena came up to Damon's side and nodded. "Come on." Damon said, his hand staying connected to Eve's as he turned and began walking towards the exit of the hospital. Eve began to pull back, once more wanting to escape Damon's grasp.

"Wait. I can't just leave." Eve protested as she continued to try and pull away from Damon. Damon let out an annoyed sigh, stopping and looking at her with an annoyed confusion. "Caroline is still here…" Eve stated, worry lacing her words as she looked back behind her.

"Bonnie's going to watch out for her." Elena explained, nodding for them to keep walking.

"Why...do ya need me?" Eve asked, letting herself be pulled along a little less reluctant knowing the witch would watch out for Caroline…Damon glanced back over at Elena who let out a small sigh, nodding for them to hurry.

"We're going to see if Stefan is safe." Damon explained as the three left the hospital.

"Dat still doesn't explain why ya need me." Eve huffed as the three continued to walk towards the parking lot. Damon let out an annoyed huff.

"If Katherine is with Stefan, we'll need you to watch Elena." Damon said. Elena's head snapped back to look at him...So, that was a lie...Eve knew. Elena was awful at keeping secrets. Her body language gave her away...so what did Damon really need her for. Damon shot a glare back at Elena. Eve let out a short huff but remained silent as the three got to Damon's car.

Damon watched as Eve and Bonnie walked out of sight. He sighed, turning his attention back towards Elena. What bad timing...but curiosity killed the cat.

"Listen, I know this is probably the last thing you want to do right now, trust me, it is for me too, but we should talk about what happened last night." Damon muttered lowly, turning his body back towards Elena. Elena nodded with a frown.

"Yeah. One of the tomb vampires got into the house and almost killed John." Elena said, sounding concerned. Damon's brows furrowed together in confusion.

"What? When? What are you talking about?" Damon rapidly asked questions to a concerned looking Elena. He hesitated in his next question. "After I left?" Damon asked lowly. Part of him didn't want Eve to hear him talk about what happened just before he called...he knew she heard Elena and Jenna so she knew he was with them...but it had to have been Elena…

"You were there?" Genuine confusion. Damon's heart fluttered for a moment.

"Come on, Elena. You know I was." Damon tried to get the girl to admit it was her...That she remembered…

"When were you at the house?" Damon didn't like where this conclusion was going but his tongue got the best of him.

"Earlier, on the porch. We were talking, all cathartic, feeling exposed…" Damon tried to jab the girl's memory but Elena was looking more annoyed and confused then before. "Come on, we...kissed, Elena." Damon whispered the last part. Elena let out an annoyed scoff.

"Okay, I don't have time for this Damon." Elena muttered, starting to walk around him. Damon grabbed her wrist quickly, stopping her from walking. Elena glared back at him.

"I think I know what happened...but you're not going to like the sound of it." Damon muttered, annoyed at how his heart was beginning to race at the idea that she was back.

"Elena, I came as soon as I got your message." Jenna's voice made Damon let go of Elena's wrist quickly. Jenna sent a glare at Damon before she focused on Elena. "How is John?" Jenna asked. Elena looked at Jenna.

"Where have you been?" Elena asked, sounding slightly annoyed, but that may have been due to Damon.

"At the fire department. I had to fill out a report." Jenna said, sounding defensive. "I told you earlier." Jenna stated. Elena's brows furrowed.

"No you didn't." Elena stated. The pit in Damon's stomach was growing more and more at their conversation.

"Yes I did." Jenna nearly snapped back, glancing over at Damon.

"No, Jenna, you didn't." Elena stated, more annoyed now.

"Yes. I did." Jenna stated sternly, staring back at Elena. Damon let out a groan as he was right. God, he hated that he was right.

"Elena, can I talk to you for just a minute." Damon asked, nodded for her to come with him. Damon ignored the look Elena shot back at Jenna and the disapproving scowl Jenna shot at Damon before she walked around them both and down the hallway. Elena let out an annoyed sigh.

"Katherine is back." Damon stated quickly as Elena's annoyed features quickly changed to shocked.

"What?" Elena asked dumbfoundedly.

"You don't remember what happened between us last night on the porch, because it wasn't you." Damon explained. "Jenna was very certain she told you where she had been, but you don't remember. So it wasn't you she told." Damon continued his explanation. He would have loved to watch Elena's face scrunch up and down in confusion and watch her little human emotions take over...but someone was eating at him…

"Oh my God…" Elena trailed off. "Jeremy's at home with Stefan." Elena stated quickly, looking around Damon quickly. "Do...do you think she's the one that did that to John?" Elena asked in a hushed voice. Damon thought for only a second before nodding.

"Yeah, it sounds like something she would do." Damon nodded.

"Then we have to go. We have to warn Stefan!" Elena stated, quickly pulling out her phone and calling him. Damon stood silently as Elena paced back and forth.

In the meantime, maybe Damon could just end John's life once and for all...no. He wanted Evie to do that...Damon's heart began to race. John said that he had done research on Evie's past...but he had help...If Katherine had helped him or Isobel find out that information, then she had to have been keeping track of Eve.

"He's not answering his phone." Elena said nearly out of breath.

"Let's go grab Evie before we go." Damon said, already walking the direction that Bonnie had taken her.

"What? Why?" Elena asked, quickly catching up to him despite being glued to her phone.

"John said he had some help finding out about Eve's past." Damon stated, stopping at the intersection of a hallway and listening for the sound of Eve's voice. Damon turned and kept walking towards her and Bonnie's voice. "Eve made sure to burn anything about her past when she set the town library on fire in 1919." Damon explained. The last part made Elena look up at him with confusion and judgment. "My point is that she's not in any books. Maybe New York's for saving the mayor's daughter, but even then, she used a fake name." Damon continued to explain. Elena still looked slightly confused. "I am not about to leave her alone with the chance of Katherine coming here to finish off John and hurt her." Damon stated sternly. "If Katherine's been keeping tabs on me and Stefan, then she's been keeping tabs on Evie. And I'm not about to let Evie die because I was stupid enough to obsess over Katherine. I'm not about to hurt Eve again because of her." Damon muttered as they turned a corner. Damon noticed the softer smile on Bonnie's face. He would have laughed if they weren't in such a hurry. How quickly Eve had managed to make Bonnie a little less murdery towards her was both amazing and not surprising.

"Katherine..." The word sounded foreign in Eve's mouth and sent a chill up Damon's spine. Damon quickly walked over and gently grabbed onto Eve's arm. Eve quickly jumped and whipped around to look up at Damon.

"What did you say?" Damon felt the question slip from his mouth. Eve pulled her arm away from Damon's. Even the small action made Damon feel less warm.

"What's goin' on?" Eve asked. Damon blinked back at her realizing he had been staring. Damon only gave a small huff at Eve's avoidance of his question before smiling at Bonnie. Damon made sure to be more gentle when he grabbed Eve's wrist and pulled her from Bonnie.

"You said Katheryine." Damon muttered, glancing behind Eve. His nerves were starting to flare up. Why had Evie said her name. Eve only raised an eyebrow back at him

"What...what about her?" Eve asked, looking behind her back at Bonnie, confused at why she had been pulled from her otherwise pleasant conversation. Elena quickly walked over to Bonnie to explain the situation. "Damon." Eve said aloud, pulling Damon's attention back down to her. "What about Katherine?" Eve asked, sounding annoyed by her repeat question.

"She's here. In Mystic Falls." Damon stated quickly, wanting to further explain as he saw the slow and sinister smile creep onto Eve's lips. "Eve-" Damon got out before Eve interrupted him.

"Oh?" Eve asked, sounding enthralled at the idea. "Where at? I'd love ta have a chat." Her words were soaked with venom that even Damon could hear, despite her muttering it through her teeth.

"You tried to have a 'talk' with Pear and you ended up getting kidnapped." Damon snarked, rolling his eyes at the eagerness of the woman to get hurt. "If you try and have a 'talk' with Katherine, you won't be alive to save." Damon muttered. Thinking Eve could die...that was the whole reason he came back to get her. Hell, even her just saying that she wanted to have a 'final fight' with Alistair made his heart ache. So...he would just have to make sure that she didn't leave his side…Elena was now by their side again. "Come on." Damon said, his hand slipping and holding Eve's hand instead of her wrist as he began walking. How easily her hand fit into his...That was until she started to pull away once more.

"Wait. I can't just leave." Eve protested as she continued to pull away from Damon. Damon couldn't help the annoyed sigh that left his lips as he turned and stopped to look at her. "Caroline is still here." Damon felt his heart beat against his chest at the worry in her voice as she turned around...as if she could see Caroline…

"Bonnie's going to watch out for her." Elena explained, nodding for the two of them to keep watching.

"Why...do ya need me?" Eve asked, finally letting herself be pulled along with Damon. Damon looked over at Elena...He couldn't just tell Eve he was worried about her getting herself killed for doing something stupid. She would chastise him until the end of time for the many stupid things that he had done himself to nearly get killed. At least he didn't have an 'archenemy'...

"We're going to see if Stefan is safe." Damon explained as the three left the hospital...it wasn't a lie...but why did they need Eve specifically to come with them...Damon glanced over at Elena and that's when it hit him.

"Dat still doesn't explain why ya need me." Eve huffed as they three continued to walk towards the parking lot.

"If Katherine is with Stefan, we'll need you to watch Elena." Damon lied through his teeth. His eyes nearly rolled into the back of his head when Elena's head snapped back and looked at him. Damon couldn't help the glare he sent back towards Elena...Luckily, Eve didn't question it any further. She only huffed as the three got to Damon's car.

Eve sat silently in the back seat while Damon drove and Elena rode in the front...much to Damon's pouting. Eve was still mad at him, she had decided. Eve let her mind wander for the car ride as the front seat stayed silent as well. The last few days had been a shitty ride and she was ready to get off.

She had finally made herself realize that she was in love with Damon, come back with Caroline only to realize that Damon had developed a crush on Elena and that she really never was going to be the one for Damon. At least...romance wise...It was going to take a little while for Eve to feel comfortable flirting with him again...knowing that most of the time, she meant it back and her blushes were from more than just embarrassment. Their little game would have to stop right away too...which was a shame. She liked seeing that, at least physically, she had some kind of effect on the vampire...and she realized that she was done. Tired of Mystic Falls and all the kind faces that met her. She was going to leave as soon as Caroline was better...Back to somewhere busy and messy...maybe even kind Alistair and end it all. She hadn't decided...All she knew was that Caroline was going to be pissed...but she was also still young and the two hadn't even known each other for a full year. Eve was good at that. Coming and going…

Eve looked out the window as Damon parked the car outside of the Gilbert's home. It was nice. A nice suburban home. Eve blinked and got out of the car, just after Damon and Elena. Damon walked around the car as Elena made her way up to the door. Damon nodded for Eve to follow. Damon offered his arm with a small smirk. Eve rolled her eyes back at him and took his arm...Just friends.

Elena unlocked the front door and walked inside. Damon walked in after her. Eve tried to walk in and froze. Was this really the first time that she had been to the Gilbert's house?

"Stefan?" Elena asked, concern in her voice. Eve looked into the house and saw Stefan on the floor.

"Elena." Stefan stated, getting up quickly and walking over to her.

"What happened?" Elena asked, checking Stefan over. Stefan glanced over at Damon before he looked at the doorway to Eve. Eve wiggled her fingers at him.

"Katherine happened." Damon muttered aloud, looking to the doorway as well. "Elena, invite Eve in." Damon said, looking back towards Elena. Elena looked at Eve and blinked before she replied hastily.

"Come in."

"Really lettin' any vampire in, huh?" Eve sassed as she crossed the threshold of the house and looked around. Elena rolled her eyes at the statement. The house looked nice inside as well. It had better be with her father being a doctor or whatever. Plus the settlement for both her parents dying in a car accident on an old bridge helped. Eve nearly let herself laugh at the morbid though.

"I'm going to check on Jeremy." Elena stated, letting her hand slide down Stefan's arm. Eve caught herself before she muttered a 'pda' comment. She didn't need anything thrown back at her involving Damon. Elena left and walked up the stairs. Eve nearly rolled her eyes into the back of her head as both the Salvatore boys watched her.

"Do ya dink dis place was always dis nice? Or did dey get a settlement for the whole parents ding?" Eve asked the question aloud. Stefan sent her a glare. Damon let out a small chuckle.

"I'm pretty sure with daddy being a doctor, they didn't need the settlement." Damon muttered back as Eve passed him. Eve couldn't help but snicker as Stefan now glared at both of them. Eve only sighed and let herself wander into the dining room.

"So, did she say what she wanted?" Eve asked letting her hands run across the wooden chairs of the table.

"Did she say what she wanted?" Damon asked

"No." Stefan grumbled back walking into the dining room...and pacing out. Damon walked in as well, but hovered close by Eve. Eve felt her skin crawl for a moment...Yup. Still mad at Damon. Eve walked around the dining room table and leaned against the island just beside the kitchen.

"Woman certainly knows how to make an entrance." Damon muttered, glancing over and slightly following Eve, but staying close to the table instead.

"She…" Stefan paused his pacing for a moment. "She said she fooled one of us, at least…" Stefan said aloud looking confused as a puppy can. Eve saw Damon's grip on the chair he was leaning against tighten. Eve raised an eyebrow back at him, but he didn't look at her. "What-what does that mean?" Stefan asked as Damon turned to face him.

"She pretended to be Elena too when I showed up earlier tonight." Damon muttered back.

"Failed ta mention ya dought it was her earlier." Eve muttered aloud. Damon sent a glare her way but she only shrugged back at him.

"I told Jeremy." Elena said, showing up behind Stefan before she was by his side. "I can't lie to him anymore." Elena said, looking more frazzled.

"So dat's why he was so pissed with her." Eve muttered towards Damon. Damon gave a small disapproving glance back down at her. Eve rolled her eyes back. Damon wasn't any fun around Elena anymore…

"Are you alright?" Stefan asked, turning towards Elena.

"No, I'm not alright." Elena grumbled back as Stefan rubbed her arm. "I thought that with all the tomb vampires gone things would get better." Elena said, letting her shoulders drop.

"Mystic Falls is a blackhole of a town." Eve muttered aloud. Damon let himself smile at the comment before his attention went back to Elena.

"I know." Stefan said more towards Elena's statement rather than Eve's. "We all did." Stefan sighed. Mystic Falls was a cursed town and Eve would die on that hill.

"Katherine was in this house." Elena stated. "That means she's been invited in." Elena said, sounding more concerned. "What are we gonna do?" Elena asked towards Stefan.

"Move." Damon muttered aloud, flashing the two a smile. Eve guestered towards Damon approvingly.

"Very helpful. Thank you." Elena snarked back at him, sitting down on the end chair at the table.

"Katherine wants you dead." Damon stated nonchalantly. "There's zero you can do about it." Damon shrugged. "You would be dead but you're no. So. Clearly she has other plans." Damon continued. Eve raised her hand to try and add to the conversation but Stefan shut her down quickly with a disapproving look.

"Right, and we need to find out what those other plans are and not provoke her in the process." Stefan said sternly, looking at Damon but keeping his eyes on Eve. Eve let out an annoyed puff of air, turning around and looking at the kitchen. It had a strong smell of bleach...and a light smell of blood...hmm. "What happened tonight when you thought she was Elena?" Stefan asked curiously back towards Damon. Eve turned back around and saw Damon tense up at the question.

"To risk another...frown line encroaching on a very crowded forehead." Damon began, standing up and walking a little ways from the table. "We...kissed." The smirk that fell onto his lips felt forced, but the sudden clenching in Eve's chest wasn't. Eve didn't give Damon the chance to look at her as she looked over at Stefan. Stefan looked at Damon and despite looking neutral, his eyes were swimming with anger.

"And you thought it was me?" Elena nearly growled back. Eve bit her tongue to keep her from snorting at the slightly disgusted look that took over Elena's features.

"What do you mean you kissed?" Stefan asked and suddenly his body language did all the talking. Eve stood up slowly to not piss off an already mad Stefan.

"Well, you know, when two lips pucker-" Damon got out sarcastically before Eve tried to quickly get beside him to shut him up. Stefan flittered over to Damon, but Damon flittered over to where Stefan had been just behind Elena. Eve flinched at how quickly the two had moved and how closely she was now to Stefan. Stefan gave an apologetic look before he glared back over to Damon. "Don't be obvious, Stefan." Damon taunted with a smirk. Eve took in a slight breath. Just friends. Eve glanced back at Stefan as he took a small step towards Damon again. Eve grabbed onto his arm quickly as Elena stood up.

"Stefan wait! He kissed Katherine. Not me." Elena said, standing up in between the two, her hands up to keep the two apart. "I wouldn't do that." Elena growled back, looking at Damon. Eve felt Stefan's arm flex in her grip, but she kept him still, looking up at him and shaking her head.

"Right." Damon muttered back. "Did I fail to mention that I had a feeling it wasn't Elena when Eve called?" Damon asked, still looking and sounding as snarky as ever, but now everyone's confused attention was on him. "I had a little heart to heart with Katherine, whom I thought was Elena," Damon began gesturing towards Elena. "Yada yada yada, I kiss her on the cheek as a thank you, and she leans into me." Damon states. "Not the other way around." Damon sassed, giving a smile back towards Stefan. Eve blinked as she felt Stefan's hand on top of the hand she was using to keep him in place. The action had her release her grip on him, not even realizing it had been so tight…

"So why didn't you say anything earlier?" Stefan asked, his hand staying on top of Eve's for a moment longer. A small warmth filled Eve's chest...one she hadn't realized had become so cold…

"I wasn't 100% sure...until Jenna said that she had told Elena about something and they both swore they were right." Damon shrugged. Elena shook her head and rolled her eyes.

"We don't have time for this guys." Elena muttered, irritation dripping as she looked at both Stefan and Damon.

"Later." Stefan muttered lowly back towards Damon who only nodded. His eyes never even wandered down. Just friends.

"John must know something." Elena said, ignoring the comment. "There has to be a reason why Katherine tried to kill him." Elena continued, more calm to get off the subject of Damon being in love with….

"Tried to?" Eve asked, glancing up towards Stefan. Despite himself, Stefan shot her a small smile and she could have sworn a chuckle.

"She's Katherine." Damon muttered, pulling the attention back to him as he scowled. "She loves to play games and you're fooling yourself if you think you're going to find out what she's been up to before she wants you to know." Damon muttered. Despite his smirk and callous tone, Eve knew better. Katherine was a plague to the Salvatore boys and Damon had an addiction…

"No, actually Elena's right." Stefan defended, taking a step towards Elena. "John could know something through Isobel." Stefan continued, turning his attention towards Elena. "Your mother, she was in touch with Katherine so maybe we can go to the hospital and get him to talk." Stefan suggested looking at Elena. Eve watched out of the corner of her eyes, Damon rolling his eyes.

"I've got a better idea." Damon muttered, turning the attention over to him.

"What's that?" Elena asked, sounding exasperated.

"I'm just gonna ignore the bitch." Damon chirped. Eve couldn't help but snort. Both from the way he said it and the fact that he was 'going to ignore her'. Damon looked back to Eve and nodded. Just like a blackhole himself, Eve walked over to him without thinking twice. "See ya!" Damon smiled, taking a step towards the door.

"Is that smart?" Elena asked, causing Damon to stop in his tracks.

"If Katherine thinks she's being ignored, it will lure her out." Damon smirked back. "She'll make a move." Damon shrugged.

"Yeah? And then what?" Stefan asked, folding his arms. Eve raised her hand once more and waved at Stefan.

"I can dink of a few dings." Eve muttered. Stefan looked back at her in such a disapproving way.

"Mmm. Millenium old vampire versus one that's barely a century." Stefan muttered back.

"Ya'd be surprised de damage I can do ta a century old vampire dat's pissed me off, Stef." Eve smiled back and winked at him before turning and leaving the house. Damon was close behind with a chuckle.

"Something poetic." Damon stated as he walked beside Eve. Eve raised an eyebrow back at him. "I don't like the idea of you going anywhere near Katherine, but seeing as it's probably inevitable, I'm thinking you have to do something poetic to her." Damon suggested as he opened the passenger door for Eve to get in. Eve only snorted as she got in and waited for Damon to get into the driver's side.

"Unfortunately, Damon," Eve got out as he started the car. "I don't have a sister dat she could fall in love with and obsess over for decades only ta find out dat de sister never loved her, so my poetic justice is out de window." Eve stated coldly, noticing how Damon tensed up at the idea.

"I take it you're still mad at me." Damon muttered quietly. Eve simply chuckled.

"What gave it away?" Eve asked back, not even bothering to look towards Damon. Damon let out a soft sigh.

"What…" Damon started but stopped himself. "What can I do to make it better?" Damon asked, so genuinely curious on how he could fix their relationship...Friendship.

"De way I want it fixed isn't a way yer willin' ta fix it." Eve stated simply.

"Just tell me." Damon begged. "I've been a moody brat lately. I just want my best friend to talk to me without these...these jabs." Damon grumbled.

"Damon." Eve stated, turning her body to look at him. Damon looked over at her the best he could while keeping his eyes on the road. "Some dings...just take time." Eve sighed out. Damon rolled his eyes at the comment. "What do ya want me ta say, Damon?" Eve snapped back at him. "I hate Katherine. I hate what she's done ta ya. I hate how yer fallin' fer a doppleganger and yer repeatin' history with a different girl who is identical ta de first." Eve ranted. "I hate how we can be so good together and as soon as Elena er Katherine's name comes up, de whole day is ruined and I'm left ta pick up de pieces." Eve hissed out. "I-" Eve got out before she quickly shut her mouth as Damon parked his car in the boarding house's driveway and turned to look at her. "I hate de way ya look at me." Eve stated aloud, looking over at Damon, now getting the full 'kicked puppy dog' eyes. "I leave fer a week and ya fall in love with yer brother's girlfriend." Eve sputtered, shaking her head with an annoyed smile on her face.

"Why-" Damon muttered out before Eve unfastened her seatbelt and got out of the car, slamming the door shut. Damon got out of his side and closed his door as Eve stomped towards the house. "I thought we had already gone through all the emotional bullshit back at the hospital!" Damon snapped, calling after her. Eve froze in her spot before whipping around to see Damon just a foot away from her.

"I dought ya had gotten over de emotional bullshit dat was Katherine." Eve snapped back. Damon took in a deep breath before letting it out. Eve rolled her eyes. "Sometimes, dings just can't be fixed right away, Damon." Eve grumbled, turning back around and continuing towards the door.

"Why does it matter so much now?" Damon asked, not moving from his spot. Eve sighed and turned around, raising an eyebrow back at him. "What happened in New York that you're not telling me?" Damon asked seriously, throwing his arms outwards. Eve let out an annoyed sigh.

"Ya want ta know?" Eve snapped, walking back over to Damon. "For about 5 minutes, I had a nice time in New York." Eve snapped, standing in front of Damon. "And den Sofya saw me and hurt Caroline and I had ta compel her ta ferget." Eve started recalling her time in New York, becoming more and more angry with each sentence. "Den, de whole time after dat, I had de knowledge dat Alistair was in de same city as me and a very fragile human." Eve continued, her hands beginning to ball and release.

"You told me all of that before." Damon muttered, rolling his eyes. "What are you not telling me?" Damon snapped, folding his arms. Eve let out a sharp laugh.

"We had a personal driver and he was so cute." Eve stated, exaggerating the word. "Plus a vampire, so another bonus." Eve sassed. "He drove us around and took us ta de tourist traps and other places and him and I flirted." Eve shrugged, ignoring the sudden flames in Damon's eyes. "If Caroline wanted ta stay in, him and I would go around ta not so touristy places." Eve continued, hissing out each word the angrier she got. "It was nice ta have someone's full attention." Eve mocked a bit of joy into her voice. "So, we had dinner at his place and-" Damon let out an annoyed huff, cutting her off.

"You didn't want to tell me you had a little one night stand?" Damon scoffed aloud. Despite trying to sound annoyed, it came off as more...angry.

"No." Eve corrected quickly, shaking her head. "No, I didn't want ta tell ya dat I didn't have a one night stand with an incredibly attractive man because of ya." Eve snapped, glaring back up at Damon. Damon's brows furrowed together as he blinked back down at her with an annoyed confusion.

"Wh-Why wouldn't…" Damon let himself trail off, expecting to be cut off by Eve. Damon let himself take a breath. "Why would I be a factor in your sex life?" Damon asked with a scoffed out laugh.

"Because I'm in lo-" Eve let herself blurt out angrily before stopping herself from letting the word leave her mouth. Eve looked at the ground and let herself huff. Eve felt her heart begin to beat rapidly as she looked back up at him. His eyes staring back at her, expecting her to finish her sentence. "I don't know." Eve muttered, letting her chest ache as she gave him a lie and looked back down at her feet. "Ya know...dere's a part of me dat just wants ta sleep with ya ta get ya out of me system." Eve stated truthfully, looking back up at the man. Before he could reply with a snarky comment Eve could see nearly spilling out of his mouth, she raised a hand. "But me issue is...dat ya are a poison...not an antidote…" Eve muttered softly, letting the lump in her throat grow bigger. "It's never goin' ta be me." Eve felt her jaw clench as the words that had always invaded her brain spill out of her mouth. Eve swallowed, trying to force the tears she knew were going to start up from coming at all. Eve didn't bother looking back up to him as she turned around. His hand wrapped around her wrist so gently it felt ghost-like, stopping her from taking another step.

"Evelyn." Damon said ever so softly...Eve turned around quickly, feeling tears begin to brim her eyes as she let Damon's hand stay wrapped around her wrist as she grabbed hold of his shirt...trying to keep herself grounded and from slipping…

"Do not lie ta me, Dammon Salvatore." Eve muttered, annoyed her voice cracked ever so slightly at his name leaving her lips. "I've known ya fer almost a century…" Eve said, her voice becoming quiet as she looked at the different emotions Damon was going through dance freely across his features. "And in dat century...it's always been her." Eve stated, letting the last of the venom she had drip across her words. "And for a moment dat it wasn't, I left ta New York." Eve stated, feeling her lips quiver. "Ya can't have yer cake and eat it too." Eve stated pulling away once more. "I know ya believe ya can have it all, but…" Eve trailed off, slowly letting her hand fall from his shirt.

"Evie...I don't want it all." Damon said quietly, his hand still around her wrist. Eve let out a small and forced chuckle.

"I told ya not ta lie ta me." Eve sassed back gently, grabbing hold of the hand he held her wrist with and pulled him off of her gently. "I know ya, Damon. And as much as I'd love ta have dings go back ta normal...Dey can't." Eve said, holding his hand. "Not right now..." Eve said looking down at their hands as he rubbed a thumb over her fingers. "Yer me best friend, Day." The words seemed to knock the wind out of him before he took in a sharp breath. "And...maybe dat's all we're meant ta be." Eve shrugged, letting go of Damon's hand. "So...just…" Eve said shaking her head and taking a step back. "I have dings ta figure out...ya know...with an old rival." Eve sassed with a forced smile that only made Damon frown.

"Well...we can always figure things out together…" Damon suggested but Eve only let out a sigh to a sad looking Damon.

"Go ta de hospital and save Caroline." Eve said softly, turning and walking into the house. This time, there wasn't any protest.
