I Met Her When The Sky Fell

Lukel

It was a terrifying and confusing time.

The Emperor had just betrayed us. The Collector had turned us into toys.

And a human had saved us all.

But it was also the best day of my life.

I awoke to find myself in a huge room full of other witches and demons, in the castle the Collector had built above the Titan's head. Others were sitting up and rubbing sore heads, and reuniting with family members. Some were injured.

I wandered around, looking aimlessly for my family, when I bumped into... her.

"Oh, I'm so sorry- you're bleeding!" She gasped. I hadn't noticed my injured arm, still shocked by the events.

"Oh, um... it's okay- I-I just-" I stammered out. I couldn't take my eyes off her.

She was the most beautiful witch I had ever seen. Her blond hair was tied back in a messy ponytail, but it still seemed to glow like the sun. Her eyes were a stunning blue, reflecting the morning sky, so gentle and yet focused as she twirled her finger in a circle and gently pressed the glowing spell to my injury, healing it expertly.

"Thank you..." I gasped, not realizing until then I had been holding my breath.

"You're welcome." She smiled up at me. Her smile made her eyes light up even brighter, and her pointed ears seemed to turn a shade of red. It was then I noticed her light purple freckles that dusted her nose and cheeks. They didn't stand out, and you could only notice them if you were standing as close to her as I was right then.

"My name is Lukel." I finally spoke.

She giggled. "Aviandra, but my friends call me Avi."

"Aviandra. That's lovely." I couldn't help the grin that spread across my face. "It's nice to meet you."

"It's nice to meet you too, Lu." Avi grinned, then noticed something behind me. "Mom!" She waved to me as she ran past and towards her mother, a demon with light purple skin, reddish blonde hair, and a tail.

I smiled after her, before noticing my brothers and heading towards them.

"Hey, Lukel, who was that?" Gabriel, my older brother, asked, nodding after Aviandra.

I blushed, not able to help my grin as she noticed me again and waved, smiling. I waved back.

"Oooooooo! Somebody has a new crush!" My younger brother Ral teased.

I elbowed him lightly, but couldn't help my goofy grin. We met up with our father, who was relieved we were all okay, even me, which was rare of him to show concern for.

When we went home to a house that was, thankfully, not in ruin after all that, I still couldn't stop thinking about Aviandra. I was scrolling my Penstagram when I noticed a message pop up in my inbox. I opened it to see it was from an account I didn't follow.

Hi. Is this Lu? It's me, Avi.

I blushed but grinned and responded quickly.

Aviandra

I couldn't stop thinking about him the entire flight home. He was literally the demon of my dreams.

His hair was as black as shadows and his eyes were a brilliant scarlet against a yellow sclera, and his pupils were slit like a cat's. He had horns that were black like his hair and curved back like a goat's. He was very muscly and when he smiled, he had the cutest little fangs.

When we got home, I took to scrolling my Penstagram, before I noticed an account that caught my eye. I checked their posts and sure enough, there were selfies of him. It had to be his account!

I decided to send a message to him, just to see if it was him. It could have been one of his friends... Or a spam account that just stole his pictures.

I typed and retyped a message about four times before I finally just sent one. Would he see it? Would he reply? Oh, Titan, I was being such a-

Yeah, hi! It was nice to meet you today.

He replied?!

He replied!

I couldn't help smile at my Penstagram as I responded.

The conversation lasted hours, well into the night. We had so much in common! Although he was only in the Abomination Track and I had been in the Healing Track, Beast Keeping and Plants, we had both been coerced into joining the Emperor's Coven just before The Day Of Unity. I played the violin and he played the fiddle. We both loved sitting on our rooftops at night and watching the beautiful dark sky, and we both hated rainy nights. His mother had left the family when he was young, like how my father had. We both wanted a house in a quiet part of the woods, and we both wanted two kids.

I sighed dreamily as I read him say that was what he wanted too. I couldn't help but picture that future with him, even though we had only met a few hours ago.

He was perfect. He was everything I ever wanted.

Lukel

She was perfect. She was everything I ever wanted.

Somehow during that conversation, as I could hear the birds singing and noticed the sun slowly start to rise over the horizon, I managed to work up the courage to ask her out on a date, to which she agreed.

I would never forget that first date. We took a walk on the beach after getting dinner at her favourite restaurant (that turned out to be my favourite too!) and talked about our future for hours. I was still surprised to realize she had the same exact family and home in mind as me, the same goals and the same future planned out. I fell more in love with every word, and we shared our first kiss that night on that beach.

One date turned into two, and then three, then it was almost every weekend. Soon we were going steady. Even my father liked Aviandra, despite him usually not being supportive about the people I chose to spend time with.

Two years after we first started dating, I asked her to marry me, on that same beach, in the same place we shared our first kiss, and she was so excited. She showed off the engagement ring to everybody and anybody that would listen.

When the wedding finally came, and I saw her walking down the aisle, I couldn't hold back a few tears. She was holding her mother's arm, wearing the most beautiful pale pink wedding dress I had ever seen. Her hair was done up in a bun and had light pink roses in her bouquet.

"Do you, Lukel Stan Bloodhorn take Aviandra Rose Angelia Starr to be your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

"And do you, Aviandra Rose Angelia Starr, take Lukel Stan Bloodhorn to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

"I do. More than anything in the world, I do."

"Then I pronounce you Mr and Mrs Starblood."

I didn't wait for the officiant to tell me I could kiss her. There was no way I could wait. She was beautiful. She was perfect.

Nothing could ruin that day. Not even when my father tried to make a fuss about us combining our last names instead of her taking mine, like tradition. Gabriel and Ral quickly defused that situation and shut him up.

After our honeymoon, we moved into a large house in the woods, where the closest building was Hexside school, about a ten minute walk. That first year of being married and living together was perfect. We had arguments, sure, but we always worked through them and ended up getting a hot cocoa or ice cream together.

Everything was perfect...

... Until it wasn't.

Until the day I sat in the hospital hallway, waiting. I was supposed to be in there, Avi had wanted me in there with her, holding her hand. Her mother sat next to me, clutching my hand tightly. We both should have been in there.

I didn't know when things had started going wrong, but more doctors and nurses had suddenly rushed into the room, and ushered Avi's mother and I out of it. The last I had seen her, she was gasping for air, tears streaming down her face, reaching out for my hand, for me. I couldn't do anything. I couldn't help her, I couldn't take away her pain. And that killed me.

That was the last day I saw my wife. My soulmate. The girl I had been destined to spend my life with.

She was gone.

And I was alone.

Well... not completely alone. I had Aviandra's mother, and I had my brothers, and I now had the two tiny little babies that I held in my arms. My son and daughter. Aviandra's son and daughter.

We had names picked out already. Out of the boy names list, I chose Donatello, giving him the middle name Avi just as a way for his mother to be with him always.

For the girl, Aviandra had one name for a girl that she wanted more than anything. Theophania J-Lynn. Which was technically two names, but it was what she would have wanted. What she had wanted. I gave my daughter the same middle names as her mother.

Avi's palisman, a hummingbird named Honeysuckle, curled up in our bed next to me that night. The palisman and my two brand new babies were all I had left of my darling wife, who I knew I would miss the rest of my life.
