Chapter 55: Upward Movement

Stella is overlooking the data shard to look over Project Abyss which holds some disturbing data. "Damn it, what is this woman thinking?" Stella asked.

"Found anything?" Rebecca asked her to come into her room to sit on the bed.

"I can see Mimi Seung is busy," Stella said as Rebecca was in disbelief.

"She could trigger a big disaster if all of this makes it to the mainland," Rebecca said.

"Indeed, I need all the data I can. The triggering something will wipe this place out for good," Stella said.

"If the main lab has a nuclear failsafe. We can use it to destroy the whole island," Rebecca said.

"Sounds good to me. Mimi is trying to make something that will surpass cyberware. Bioware allows a human to wield their bioelectricity for defense and offensive," Stella said.

"That is insane. Biotechnia is doing stuff like this," Rebecca said still feeling dumbfounded by this.

"My sister got more than she can imagine. These mutants, the bioweapons like the Fury Virus and Project Abyss. What other things is this company hiding," Stella said.

"I will let you do your thing," she said.

"Yeah, I got a lot to go through," Stella said as she was using a laptop to go through the shard to look over the data.

Rebecca goes to the workbench to see her younger twin Becka working on weapons. "Seems like Biotechnica is doing some nasty things on this rock," she said to take apart a Unity pistol to clean it up.

"Yes, it does. My old friend Sasha wanted revenge for the company's greed getting people killed by their bad products including her mother. This is much bigger than she could ever imagine," Rebecca said feeling overwhelmed by all this crazy science supervillain bullshit.

"You know, almost all Megacorps on this planet are getting closer to unleashing something they can't control. Then humanity gets wiped out due to old fucks' greed and lack of vision," Rebecka said putting the pistol back together to work on a new weapon called a PDW 12 which is a bullpup machine pistol chambered for the 5.7x28mm. The same rounds were used in the Rook pistol and the Peacekeeper personal defense weapon.

"Like the Blackwall?" Rebecca asked as Cortez told her about it.

"Oh yes, that thing. These Corpos think they have all the control but they are on the razor edge of pushing humanity into a very dark moment," Rebecka being very serious about this.

"Even now how fucked up the world is?" she asked.

"It will get even worse but V and the Nomads managed to take out Arasaka's Soul Killer program and Secure your Soul. This would be a worst-case situation," Rebecka said.

"What do you mean?" Rebecca asked wanting to know more.

"Secure your Soul is a scam of a grand scale. Saburo was never going to give the elites immortality. It's only going for himself and the real goal of Secure Your Soul is to control all the most powerful people in the world. Allowing Arasaka and Saburo to gain all their secrets to make Arasaka the most powerful entity this world has ever seen," Becka said as this creeps Rebecca out to no end.

"Fuck me, he is sounding like a supervillain from a comic book," Rebecca said.

"Indeed, he was. You and others were screwed up before you were even born. You fought Arasaka and never understood their true goals. Arasaka is made to rule the world with Saburo at the head as a god," Becka said as Rebecca and David truly never stood a chance.

"Yeah, crazy stuff," Rebecca said.

"Thankfully V and the nomads have destroyed this along with Saburo's death and Arasaka being gravely weakened. This outcome would never happen, if this went through. No one would let this happen, it would be a global war," Becka said as Rebecca had more respect for V knowing he had managed to put an end to a plan that had been going on for over a hundred years.

"Gee in terms of Cyberpunk grades, that is a S++," she said trying to lighten up the mood.

"Yeah sorry. It's got me all heated up," Rebecka said as Rebecca patted her on the shoulder.

"I understand, hearing this stuff would make me angry too," Rebecca said.

"Thanks, Thankfully, we will erase these eyesores one thing at a time," Rebecka said.

"Yeah, we can't lose hope. We need to keep together and forge a future for ourselves with the ones we love," Rebecca said.

"I can't say it better myself," Becka fixes up the PDW 12 while moving to the Ajax rifle to adjust the sights. "It would be handy to have a Full-Spectrum Immuno-Booster," she said as Rebecca didn't know what this was.

"What is that?' she asked.

"It's a piece of Bioware. It's quite rare, it combined three Bioware into one powerful combo. It gives the user's immune systems a massive boost by modifying the cells to allow the body to hugely resist and combat diseases, viruses, and poisons," Becka said.

"That sounds pretty handy," Rebecca said.

"I bet we can find some in one of the labs. Not too lucky so far," Becka said as she put the rifle away.

"Thanks for the chat. I need to rest up," Becca said.

"No problem, see you later," Becka said as Rebecca went into her room to see Cortez stripped to his underwear.

"Oh, hey there beefcake. So delicious," Rebecca said looking over his tall strong frame wanting to do so many things to him.

"Right back at you Spitfire," Cortez said as Rebecca was only in her purple strapless bra and purple panties molding around her petite pear-shaped body. Rebecca feels his eyes looking at her wide hips hugging her panties.

"Gee big guy, you going to make me act up with those loose lips of yours," she walks to him in a sexy walk keeping him drawn to her hips and thighs to go up to him to press her hands onto his broad chest.

"Me first," he flirted as Rebecca giggled at this feeling his strong hands on her thing waist to slightly rub them to go behind her to grab onto her buns. "I was thinking about these, I want to give these a spin," he said to pull her in to slap her ass making her jump.

"Goodness, such a bad boy," she said in a low tone as she sat next to him to lay on the bed beside him. "Oh, this feels so nice," she said letting the softness of the bed melt her back muscles.

"Yeah, these times of peace are worth it. With you by my side, all those nightmares can go away," Cortez said to look out the window.

"You mean now or before?" she asked.

"Both," Cortez said as Rebecca reached over to kiss him on the lips.

"Don't worry big guy, nurse Rebecca is here to make all the bad dreams go away. Come here," she said to get up and sit on her knees to pat her thighs allowing Cortez to lay his head there. "One of your favorite pillows," she said playfully.

"Flip over and I can lay on my favorite one," Cortez said lightly as Rebecca playfully hit him on the forehead.

"Dumbass, I can sing something for you to soothe your soul. Baby," Rebecca said to begin humming a sweet tune in her lovely voice.

"I don't know. What words I can say. The wind has a way. To talk to me. Flowers sleep. A silent lullaby. I pray for reply. I'm ready," Rebecca is letting her tomboyish voice be very smooth and pretty letting Cortez's heart and mind be soothed by her wonderful singing voice.

"Quiet day calms me. Oh, serenity. Someone please. Tell me, what is it they say? Maybe I will know one day," Rebecca presses onward as she gently rubs his head

"I don't know what. Words I can say. The wind has a way. To talk to me. Flowers sleep. A silent lullaby. I pray for reply. I'm ready," she finished one of her favorite songs to pull his face into her chest holding him there tightly. "I love you so much," she said letting him hear her two hearts beating rapidly in her chest.

"Me too, I am here. You are not alone," he said to kiss between her breasts making Rebecca feel ticklish.

"Thanks, you want to hear a funny story?" she asked, letting him down for them to lay back down beside each other.

"Sure, all ears," he said.

"Well, I told you I never had a boyfriend before. There was one time I thought I found someone," Rebecca said acting sheepish about this.

"This will be interesting to listen to," Cortez said lightly.

"Well, I was on a job tracking this guy down. I got him cornered and I saw his sweet sad eyes. I got emotional and spared him. I took him home and we got close," Rebecca said.

"So, it was pity sex," he said as Rebecca looked embarrassed by this.

"Yeah, pretty much. After I fucked his brains out, in the morning. I was going to ask him on a date but he stole some things like my panties and left," Rebecca said as Cortez couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"Are you kidding me?" he asked.

"Yeah, I was a dumbass," Rebecca made a goofy expression on her chalk-white face.

"Like why?" Cortez sounded dumbfounded.

"I was lonely okay, I wanted a real relationship but I was always just treated like a joy toy. To be used and tossed aside, never caring about who I am," Rebecca said feeling shameful at this.

"You were a joy toy," Cortez said plainly.

"You get what I mean," Rebecca said as Cortez got close to her to hug her.

"Hey, it's okay, I get it," Cortez said talking in a low tone making her feel comfortable.

"After all that time, I found no one in that fucking city. There was David but I never had a chance with that. But here I am with the man I love who treats me with respect," she said.

'Damn straight, you deserve it," Cortez said.

"So, I got another story about my Edgerunner days in Maine's crew," she said.

"Hit me with it," he said as Rebecca began recalling a day when she was in Night City becoming part of Maine's crew.

-Flashback Begins-

The year is 2074, Rebecca has become 21 years old and has been doing jobs with Maine and his crew for well over a year now. Rebecca and Sasha were at a burger joint to enjoy some grilled meat. "Hot damn, this taste amazing," she said as the cheeseburger she was eating was delicious.

"This shop's food is quite decent. Are you and Pilar fighting again?" Sasha asked.

"Yeah, he is such a dumbass. It's getting to his head. All this fame and glory is only going to get him killed," Rebecca said as she enjoyed her fries.

"Are we getting a mission for Miss Wakako today?" Sasha asked to bite into her burger.

"Yeah, we are. Never liked that old bag. Always so shady, putting us on a short leash," Rebecca said.

"Oh yeah, Pilar calls her Auntie Wakako," Sasha said as Rebecca cringed from that.

"Fuck off with that. She took pity on us when Dad left out of nowhere. Just disposable drones for her trashy jobs but they pay well at least," she said.

"We better get done and go speak with her," Sasha said.

"Yeah, she gets cranky when I am late," she said to finish her meal to see a bunch of Animal thugs bothering the waitress.

"Yo, my burger didn't turn out too well," the head thug said.

"Yeah, you served him a bad meal. We want a refund," the Animal thug said.

"I am so sorry," the waitress said as she got shoved onto the floor. Rebecca is quite angry at this.

"Bunch of cowards, hey fuckfaces. How about you pick someone your size," Rebecca goes up to the huge muscleheads.

The Animals laugh at her face. "Oh, look at this, some little mice are trying to come up to elephants like us. So funny," the head Animal said as Rebecca was not amused by them teasing her short height. She quickly pulls out the Omaha pistol to slice through the head of the lead Animal with a charged shot.

"Eat this," Rebecca swiftly fires several charged shots to take out all the Animals with clean headshots dropping all of them onto the floor. "Hey, you okay"' she asked as the Waitress nodded her head.

"Yes, thanks for the help," the waitress said as Rebecca gave her a big smile.

"You are welcome, lady, I know how annoying that is. Come on Sasha," Rebecca said as they went outside to get into the car.

"That's pretty nice Becca," Sasha said

"I am nice when I feel it like," Rebecca doesn't like people being bullied by assholes like that. "I just hate when people get shoved around like that," she said.

"You got the compassionate heart, Rebecca," Sasha feeling proud she kept her humanity despite how dark this city can be.

"Keeps me human at least," Rebecca said as they arrived at Wakako's office to see Pillar there.

"You are late Rebecca like always," Wakako said looking disappointed.

"Sorry Auntie Wakako. How about not cocking this up little sis," Pilar not being pleased with this.

"I was trying to help someone. The animals were very annoying, so I killed them off," Rebecca feels proud of it as Wakako sighs at this.

"You lack any sort of subtle whatsoever. Besides getting involved in people's business will get you killed," Wakako is not pleased with her compassionate act.

"I do what I feel like, it feels right to do. I will do it, no questions asked," Rebecca said.

"You are nothing like your father," Wakako scolds her for he used to be one of her best Edgerunners but Rebecca is happy to hear this.

"Damn straight," Rebecca said proudly.

"He is quite professional and you are unstable," Wakako said.

"Well, he is so professional he is not here. Some Edgerunner huh," Rebecca is dismissive.

"Anyway, I need your crew to do something for me. I need you to go into the Scav hideout in an apartment complex and secure a target. A Corpo woman who was kidnapped by the Scavs and the family wants her back," Wakako said.

"Of course, Auntie Wakako. We got this," Pilar said as Wakako nodded her head.

"I am counting on you, keep watch over this one," Wakako said always thinking Rebecca was unreliable.

"Of course," Pilar said as they got out of Wakako's office. "The fuck was that," Pilar complained.

"What, not my fault the old bag has a stick up her ass," Rebecca said.

"You two going to argue again?" Sasha asked, trying to cool them down.

"We are just talking," Pilar said.

"Yeah right," Rebecca said dismissively as they met with the others who were waiting in Falco's custom vehicle.

"About time you show up girlies," Maine said in the back seat to enter inside to head for the target location.

"We are ready to go," Rebecca wielding a Copperhead assault rifle with a combat scope and suppressor.

"Time to rock and roll, right babe," Maine is wielding a Crusher full auto shotgun like a pistol.

"We got this," Dorio is wielding an Overture magnum revolver.

"We are coming in. Nice and slow," Falco said to park the car nearby with Pilar sitting in the back to use his drone to scout the area.

"I will be watching from here. Good luck guys," Pilar said as his upgraded Bombus scanned the area to spot several Scavs protecting their target. "Very heavy around here," Pilar said on the radio to have Rebecca, Sasha, Dorio, and Maine going on the field to begin getting into position to raid the apartment complex filled with Soviet gangsters.

"They fucked with the wrong guys," Rebecca said as she leaps through a window to grab the Scav to slam his head onto the floor to take him out silently.

"Damn straight, time to give them our utmost attention," Maine kicks a car to send it flying to slam into a group of gangoons to smash them to bloody pieces. "Time to show you, bottom feeders, who is boss," Maine uses his huge arms to shield himself from the barrage of bullets to fire slugs to see their heads and torsos get blown out with blood and guts everywhere.

Dorio backs him up with accurate shots from her magnum to blow open their heads. She tosses a EMP grenade to disable several gangsters with Maine using his powerful fists to smash them into bloody messes.

Sasha is using Cripple Movement to trip up their enemies with Dorio and Maine killing them with brutal efficiency. She wields her Yukimura smart machine pistol to set it on a three-round burst mode to kill Scavs with headshots while setting them on fire via Overheat.

Pilar goes to disable windows to leave them wide open while overloading the generator to blind the enemies with bright lights. Rebecca wields her scoped rifle to appear by a window to put rounds onto enemies down below to support her team.

"Rebecca, I am pinging targets inside. I located the woman inside, clear the path while we cut them down here," Sasha said as Rebecca moved through the apartments to blast away enemies. She tosses a Gash grenade as the lasers slice through a bunch of Scavs turning them into piles of burned meat and metal.

Rebecca jumps over a Scav to use her Omaha to pop her head like a watermelon to kick another thug into a wall. She finishes her off by shooting her in the head with brains and blood scattered on the walls. She sees Maine using his PLS to fire a mini rocket into one of the windows to unleash a big explosion to kill off a bunch of enemies reducing them to piles of gore.

Maine smashes the door down with him and Dorio killing off a bunch of thugs. Pilar's drone is knocking out Scavs with sleep darts to put them down to cut the power from their defenses while Rebecca meets back up with the others to mow down several enemies.

Maine bashes down a door to see the Corpo woman they were there to rescue. "Okay lady, time to get you out of here," Maine said grabbing the woman to slinging her over his shoulder to have Falco come in to take the group in the vehicle to go out of there.

"Nice work guys," Dorio said.

"Yeah, that was clean and simple," Sasha said.

"Yeah, it was," Pilar said as he called Wakako to tell her about the mission being successful. "Hey Auntie Wakako, we got the target. We are bringing her to the location," Pilar said.

"Very reliable, your crew is. I will transfer the eddies to your account," Wakako said on the phone.

"Good to hear, keep the gigs rolling," Maine said as Rebecca checked her gun to gather the funds to be moving to Venus in the future.

"All this Edge running. One day, I can get off this rock and get away from this hell," Rebecca thought as she gathered money to allow her to get a new life from this nightmare.

-Flashback Ends-

Cortez hears her story hearing about Wakako gives him bad vibes. "That cold bitch, thankfully we took care of her," Cortez said showing disgust for the old woman.

"You killed Wakako?" she asked.

"Well yeah, she was involved with kidnapping Nomads for the Tyger Claws to use them for sexual slavery and other very fucked up things," Cortez said.

"Tyger Claws, they are one of the worst gangs in Night City. The Mox hates them with a burning passion," Rebecca said sharing her disgust for Wakako.

"Can't blame them. V had unfinished business with her anyway. She always did put V on a short leash and tried to screw him over. It all bite her in the ass before we left the city," he said matter-of-factly.

"Good thing she is dead, one less asshole to worry about. Tell me when you have the time," Rebecca said.

"No problem, Spitfire," Cortez said as they began to get ready to go to bed to rest up for the next mission. Rebecca embraces him to shove her face into his warm chest.

"Thanks, baby, this feels so nice," she thought to close her eyes.

"You did the right thing. Saving that waitress like that," Cortez said enjoying that his girlfriend does have a heart and keeps in touch with her humanity.

"I did what I felt was right. Everyone needs a pick me up now and again," Rebecca said as she always wanted to help people. When her dreams of becoming a social walker were crushed, she would help the little guy when she could since she was in that same position herself.

"Good, keep true to yourself. That's why I adore you," Cortez said to close his eyes to fall asleep.

"Thanks, I appreciate it. Goodbye baby," she said feeling very happy to be with this man and falling asleep in a tight embrace.
