Plink, plink, plink. Tears fall down on Cat's face as he blinks. Then, out the blue, he gives me his trademark Kitty grin. "M'lady, you know cats aren't fond of water, even if it is just tears." I gasp. "Kitty, your back!" Before he can stop me, I cover his face with kisses. "Whoa, whoa!" he sits up. "What happened?"
"You had a visit from Amnesia." Cat rubs his temples, as if trying to wipe away some very bad memories. "But how did I get my memory back?" "The power of love brought you back, I suppose."
He nudges me, eyes sparkling happily. "See, you and me, it was met to be!" I nudge him back. "Would you stop? Your such a dork." "Correction, I'm your dork, and you'll drown me with tears!"
"One can never drown their soulmate that way, Cat Noir," Crumb suddenly steps out of a portal, smiling. "Only the tears of the sorrowful can be drowned." Cat narrows his eyes at Crumb. "For a wise men, have you been reading one to many tea leaves?" "I have been patiently waiting for two of my students return after they went berry picking. Tea leaves are all I have left!"
I clap my hands to my cheeks. "Oh. My. Kwamis. Cat, the berries!" Crumb laughs. "The berries are the least of my worries. I'm just happy you two are together and safe." "Wait a minute," I scoop my hand into my compact after sliding it open. "I put them in here for safe-keeping. I must have forgotten all about them!"
Cat laughs, and claps his hands. "And your so good at baking, you can bake me a pie!" "Just hold your tummy for a sec. I need to ask Crumb a question. Kitty, I didn't mean literally!" I groan as Cat grabs his tummy, feigning lack of food, like any second now, he'll pass out from hunger.
"We saw Emile Agreste's statue, and Adrien was able to activate his Kwagatama and talk to her. What is her statue doing hidden underground?" At the mention of his mother, Cat wanders over and tightly holds my hand.
"Emile did have a statue in the garden at school," Crumb informs us. "For Emile loved the gardens. You should have seen her when it rained, Adrien. She would laugh and run through the puddles and we had to scold her about tracking mud into the Temple."
I burst out laughing. "Well, the apple doesn't fall from the tree, does it, Kitten?" When we were younger, Cat would sometimes come to my place after patrol, soaking wet and stinking of wet cat. Me, taking pity on my best friend, would gentle scold and after his bath, make sure he was cozy and warm.
Cat's cheeks are the color of apples. "It sounds like Mother and yes, that's me." Crumb opens the portal, and I slip my arm through Cat's as we follow. "As I recall, after your bath, that's when you would plan Operation: Cookie." "Hey, cookies and milk are best during the rain and warm bath. Besides," he sniffs, "its not my fault I have a naughty tail!"
Crumb's eyes are twinkling and he hands me two buckets of berries. "Ladybug, can I entrust you that these get to the kitchen safely?" I snort at Cat's wounded expression. "I'll guard them with my life," I promise. "Why do I have the feeling your talking about me?" Cat jokes.
He's a good boy though, and I hold back a handful of berries. Dropping them off at the kitchen, we head back upstairs, were we pass a window and I pause, looking out. "Let's get some fresh air, Kitten. After being in that dark cave, we could use some!"
I lead Cat down the steps into the garden, giggling a little as I begin to run, whirling my yo-yo, and vaulting us up into the trees. Cherry blossoms hide us, and I reach for a berry once we're settled.
"Do you want the berry?" I laugh, moving all around, giggling as Cat's eyes follow it like a laser-pointer eventually tossing it to his mouth. It bounces off his nose, and he cracks up, and begs me to try again.
After we calm down, I feed him a berry, his teeth grazing my fingers and sending delicious shivers through me.
"You make me so happy," Cat whispers in my ear. "I think I stumble home to my Cat," I quote, smiling back. "Meow." "Adrien." He moves closer, lightly places his hands around my waist, as I lean back against the tree. Before I know it, his lips are on mine, fast and urgent. "Slow down," I murmur, hands tangling in his hair. "We have all the time in the world." Cat pulls back, his eyes dark with emotions. "Not if Scorpius has his way, M'lady. His powers aren't to be taken lightly."
"Hey, we're strong, too. We have the power of love on our side. Plus, the power of puns." "You are so pawesome. Finally, you embrace the puns!" "Now, wait a minute!I never said-" "Sneak attack!" Cat yells, tickling me.
And we fall into the tree into one of the fountains in the garden with a resounding splash. Oh, sugar and cookies did anyone not see that?
Of course, Hydra and Lyra have to be walking by as Cat helps me out, dripping wet. "Cat, Ladybug! When did you get back?" Lyra looks like she wants to hug us both, but she holds back as we are soaked. Wise of her. "Just a little bit ago," Cat grins, pawing water from his ear. Hydra whispers something to Lyra. She giggles. "Yes, we snuck away to kiss!" I confess.
We're still laughing when the PA crackles to life and Crumb's voice comes over. "They're will be Morning Assembly tomorrow welcoming back our heroes, Ladybug and Cat Noir! For tomorrow, they will pick two students to travel with them to find Scorpius. Now, head off to dinner!"
Cat and I look at each other. Our choices are obvious, but what will the other students think when we choose our friends over them?
