Author's notes: keep in mind that this is the second to the last chapter. This was never meant to be a very long story. I want to say thank you for all the support this story has gotten. This story has done very well by my standards.
Also, the author of this story's inspiration, An Undead Gamer 45, recently posted a short but sweet MoxxieXVerosikaXMillie one-shot called 'the threeway camping trip'.
—
Verosika and her crew had been contracted to go to the human world for spring break to gather lust energy. Due to how this would be their first time in the human world, Moxxie, Millie and Vortex had been given human disguises. The three of them had just activated them to see what they look like.
Vortex booked like a large and imposing black man with the same scar on his eye. Millie had her demonic features removed and replaced with human ones and she had a brownish skin tone like someone who had been in the sun a lot. By contrast, Moxxie had a quite pale skin tone which made his freckles more visible.
"You look even more ridiculous than usual Moxxie," Josh commented.
"I think he looks cute," Apple chimed in.
"I think he looks like a possum," Kiki retorted.
"The important thing," Verosika spoke up, "is if Moxxie likes it. Do you?"
"Yeah," Moxxie answered as he looked at himself in a small compact mirror that had been handed to him. "I could get used to this."
"Good," Verosika replied. "It took a while for my human disguise to grow on me since it looks so different from how I normally do. Plus, it's less curvaceous than I usually am."
Millie took several quick steps to see if her new form affected her mobility.
"Well it looks like runnin' with feet doesn't feel different," Millie said. "Still gonna pass on the pedicure though."
Verosika chuckled at this, much to everyone else's confusion.
"It's an inside joke between us," Verosika explained.
—
Verosika had been performing at spring break for several days now. She was currently doing another beachside performance. While she was singing, Vortex was on the front of the stage on bouncer duty while Moxxie and Millie were in the rafters, waiting to strike if needed while everyone else worked the crowd, so to speak.
The concert was being observed by a women in a nearby alley. She was wearing jeans, a long-sleeved brown shirt, a ski mask and a backpack.
You're going to pay for what you did to me, Verosika, the woman thought. A few minutes later, a time on her watch went off. The strike team should be in position now. Time to get this party started.
She reached into her backpack and took out a glass bottle with a rag coming out of the top. At the same time, she took a lighter from her pocket and lit the rag.
Everything was going great until three bottles had been thrown into the crowd in rapid succession. The bottles broke open and caused fire to spread out, causing several members of the crowd to catch on fire.
The whole crowd was panicking now. Some of them were rushing the stage to get away from the flames that had broken out. Vortex was doing his best to prevent them from doing that so they had to flee elsewhere.
Milky stopped what she was doing and tossed a guy towards the stage. He landed on top of a few others and then she got in front of the stage and assisted Vortex with crowd control.
When the fires broke out, Verosika turned around and fled the stage to get away from the fires and the panicking mob. While fleeing, she was stopped by roughly twenty biker thug looking guys blocking her path, some of them armed with guns and some of them armed with melee weapons like pipes, bats and chains.
Shit, Verosika thought, too frightened to say it aloud. Is this connected to the other attacks? It can't be a coincidence that those guys are waiting for me after those fires broke out but who'd be capable of sicking humans on me?
Moxxie and Millie followed Verosika in the rafters, just in case the panic with the crowd was meant as a distraction. As one of the thugs raised a pistol and was about to fire but was stopped by Moxxie throwing a flash bang grenade, which detonated and stunned all of the assailants.
Moxxie drew his pistols and opened fire, dropping four guys with quick headshots. At the same time, Millie dropped down and pulled out two machetes that were strapped to her back. Millie rushed towards the thugs and slashed one in half and then did the same with another one.
A thug pointed a sawed-off shotgun at Millie. He was about to fire but was stopped when he was shot by Verosika, who had her snub nosed revolver out from a holster she kept on her upper thigh and concealed by her skirt. She shot two more thugs who had guns, prioritizing them over the ones with melee weapons. Verosika noticed that one of the thugs was about to shoot her so she ducked behind a corner.
I know Moxxie and Millie are supposed to protect me, Verosika began thinking, but I'm really not seeing a reason why I can't pitch in for my own defense.
Verosika reached into a bag of bullets that was strapped to her upper thigh that was opposite the gun holster and topped off her gun.
A thug swung a wooden bat at Millie but she cut through it with one of her machetes and then sliced off his leg beneath the knee. When he fell to the floor, she made sure to step on his throat, hoping that would be enough to finish him off. A different thug swung a lead pipe at her but she parried it away with one machete and sliced him horizontally in half with the other.
A thug raised his handgun to shoot at Millie but she sidestepped to avoid the shot and then threw one of her machetes which impaled his torso. She then grabbed the lead pipe off the thug she just killed, ran up to the one that had a machete through him, jumped up, stood on the machete and smashed his head in with the lead pipe. She dropped the pipe, picked up the machete and went back to killing.
Most of the assailants with guns were trying to shoot Moxxie in the rafters but he kept moving so they had yet to land a hit. Whether this was because their aim was affected by the lingering effects of the flash bang or they were just bad shots in general, there was no way to tell. Moxxie returned fire while moving and without properly aiming and was able to hit them because he was just that good.
After roughly one minute of carnage, Moxxie, Millie and Verosika had killed all of the assailants, leaving behind a scene the likes of which the human world rarely saw outside war zones.
"Well, that was fun," Millie said with an exuberant smile.
A gunshot rang out and hit Millie in her side. Moxxie and Verosika looked to where the shot came from, and saw the woman in the ski mask holding a pistol.
The two of them opened fire to avenge their mutual girlfriend. A diamond shaped portal opened up beneath her feet but due to the gunshots she received, she fell next to the portal instead of dropping through it like she intended. The portal closed while one of her feet was dangling through it, severing the limb.
"What the actual fuck?" Verosika asked out loud, perplexed that one of the assailants had an Asmodean crystal.
That answers the question, Verosika thought, of whether this was part of the larger pattern of attacks on me but raises so many others.
Moxxie dropped down from the rafters, and hurriedly made his way over to Millie. He took out some of the first aid supplies he had on him and began patching her up.
"How bad is it, mox?" Millie asked.
"First off, don't talk," Moxxie replied. "As for your question, I don't know. I can stop the bleeding but I have no idea how much internal damage the bullet did. You need an ambulance. Fortunately, on is likely already on the way due to those Molotov cocktails being thrown into the crowd."
Millie only smiled in response, heading Moxxie's advice about not talking.
Please make it through, Verosika thought.
"Do what you can to help her," Verosika ordered Moxxie. "Ambulances are coming soon. I'm gonna try to flag one down to get people over here."
Verosika left the rear exit and saw the bodies of the two security temps covering the exit laying on the ground, no doubt having been killed by the biker thugs. She went to the nearest street, holstering her revolver to ensure she didn't get mistaken for an attacker. As Moxxie predicted, it did not take long for cops and ambulances to show up.
"Hey," Verosika shouted to get the attention of some paramedics. "Someone's been shot and needs immediate medical attention."
Two paramedics went over to Verosika and were accompanied by two police officers. She brought them over to where Millie was.
"Jesus fuck!" One of the police officers exclaimed. "What the fuck happened here?"
"I'll explain later," Verosika replied, with a hint of irritation. "She's the one that needs help," Verosika pointed the paramedics towards Millie.
"I did what I could to stop the bleeding." Moxxie explained to the paramedics, "but I have no idea if it's enough."
"It's definitely a good start," one of the paramedics said, as they began slowly guiding Millie to their ambulance.
"Can I come with her?" Moxxie asked.
"Sure," the paramedic answered.
"Miss," one of the police officers spoke up. "Could you mind telling us what all this is about?"
"Sure," Verosika answered. "I was performing on stage and then I saw some molotov cocktails get thrown into the crowd. They started panicking and to get away from them, I left the stage where these guys were waiting for me. One of them was about to shoot me but then my bodyguards, the two who just left with the paramedics, intervened and… things got out of hand."
"Those two shorties did all this?"
"They're very good at their jobs."
"Clearly."
"Also I helped," Verosika said as she took out her revolver. "I'm guessing you have to take the gun to confirm which guys I shot."
"We do," one officer confirmed as he took the gun. "Even though it seems like a seriously moot point given all this death."
"After all these guys were killed, she," Verosika pointed to the female assailant that had shot Millie, "shot Millie, the woman the paramedics took away and was about to shoot me but was stopped by my other bodyguard and me."
Verosika looked at where the female assailant's leg had been cut off from her failed escape attempt. If they take stock of all the severed body parts, Verosika began thinking, they'll notice that half her leg is unaccounted for. How the fuck am I going to explain that?
"Miss," one of the officers said as he placed his hand on Verosika's shoulder reassuringly, "it's all right now. All these assholes are dead and it sounds like the paramedics think that your bodyguard that was shot is likely to pull through."
They think that everything that's happened is just getting to me, Verosika thought, as she analyzed why the officer was acting this way. It's good that he doesn't suspect anything else is going on. As for the missing leg, I'll just say that I don't know where it is because with everything that happened, I couldn't be expected to keep track of where all the body parts ended up. That's assuming anyone even asks that question. Humans are notoriously stupid.
"Thank you, Officer," Verosika said as she looked at the female assailant again.
"And I wouldn't worry," the officer continued, "about your bodyguards facing legal consequences for killing all these people. Normally killing this many people, regardless of circumstances, would be inexcusable but considering that they were armed and ready to ambush you, it seems like it was necessary escalation. It's also unlikely that it was a coincidence that they came after you immediately after those Molotovs were thrown into the crowd, meaning that they coordinated with whoever threw the Molotovs so that makes them even less deserving of restraint."
"I thought of that too," Verosika said. "Would it be too much to ask for you to take off her mask so I can at least see what she looks like?"
"No," the other officer answered as he put on a pair of gloves he had on him. He removed the ski mask which revealed Caucasian woman with tan skin and long, black hair.
"Roberta White," Verosika reflexively said aloud upon recognizing this woman. The officer who took off the mask looked at her and wordlessly asked for clarification. "She's a singer. Or she was. She hasn't been active in a while. In fact, I opened for her once when I was an up-and-comer." Verosika's eyes widened in realization. "Now that I think about it, her star started falling around the same time mine was rising."
—
Sometime later, Verosika and her crew had gathered inside Millie's room at the hospital. According to the doctors, Millie was is in no danger and was expected to be good as new in a few days. Millie was lying on a hospital bed while everyone else stood around her as Verosika relayed finding out who the masked woman was.
"So what we've got here," Moxxie began, "is a washed up has-been of a popstar who has reason to believe that her failure was a side effect of your success. The story practically writes itself."
"Yeah," Milky agreed. "Even Ace could follow along."
"Oh blow me standing up," Ace snapped back.
"Oh, I've never heard that before," Milky sarcastically retorted. "If that's the best comeback you can come up with, you've only proved my point about your intelligence."
Yeah, well, you're fat, Ace thought about saying but decided against it because he knew that was playing with fire. Plus that was also highly unoriginal which would only further approve her point about his lack of intelligence so he decided the most intelligent thing to do now was quit while he was behind.
"The one thing I don't get," Josh spoke up, "is why would Roberta come after you after all this time?"
"I've been looking through her socials trying to figure that out," Coco said as she looked over her phone, which was connected to Hell's Internet. "Turns out, she's planning to drop a new album soon though she doesn't give a specific release date."
"Well now it all adds up," Verosika said. "She was hoping for this album to be her big comeback and she decided to stack the deck in her favor by killing me, creating a power vacuum in the pop music scene that she would then try to fill. In addition to that, she also gets personal revenge on me for whatever role she thinks I had in her getting pushed out of the limelight in the first place."
"The ironic thing here is," Coco spoke up, "is that if this album is finished and drops later, word of her death is going to ensure it does really well. At least in Hell: on Earth, she probably won't be fondly remembered due to what she did today. She's going to get her come back, she just won't be alive enough to enjoy it."
"So are we thinking," Kat began, "that she was behind all the other attacks, starting with the one that killed Donnie?"
"We can't prove that either way right now," Moxxie answered.
"But hear me out," Kat continued. "This album of hers is almost done. She decided that to stack the deck in her favor, she needs Verosika out-of-the-way. So she puts out a hit, but everyone who tries to collect on it gets killed instead. After a few failed attempts, she comes to Earth in a last ditch attempt to handle it personally, has sex with those biker guys to get them on her side along with prom of more sex once Verosika's dead."
"That's possible," Coco agreed. "But it's also possible that she had nothing to do with the other attacks but those failures raised the price beyond what she could afford so then she comes to earth and makes the last ditch attempt to handle it personally."
Reminds me, Moxxie began thinking, of how desperate I felt to get away from my dad. Her plan to throw those molotovs into the crowd to recruit them to be a distraction is uncomfortingly similar to how I recruited those homeless hounds to dispose of Vinnie's body by making it their problem. Except I reluctantly went through with it because it seemed necessarily drastic to escape my dad: pretty different from her just wanting to be famous again.
On the plus side, Moxxie kept thinking, judging from that conversation I had with Chazz, it sounds like my dad's gang connected the dots I placed for them to frame Vinnie. At least some of those hounds have probably died since then but it wasn't because of anything I did.
"Doesn't matter," Verosika countered. "Whether she was behind all the attacks or just this one, the important thing is that there's now one less person who wants me dead."
Everyone nodded and gave murmurs of agreement with her.
"I'd like a moment alone with Millie, please," Verosika requested, and everyone except Moxxie left. "That includes you too," Verosika said to Moxxie, who also left. Verosika walked up to Millie's bedside and took a deep breath. "I have a confession to make. Promise me you won't get mad?"
"Sure," Millie answered.
"The reason I wanted us to become a throuple," Verosika began nervously, "is because I'd fallen hard for Moxxie after that first night he spent with me and trying to convince you to share him seemed safer than trying to steal him from you."
"Damn right," Millie agreed.
"It's just that," Verosika resumed "Moxxie coming into my life was exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it."
"I Understand," Millie said reassuringly as she held Verosika's hand. "I've suspected for a while that you love Moxxie more than me but the way I see it, playin' second fiddle to him was a small price to pay for me to also be with you. And obviously having fallen for Moxxie myself, I can see why someone else would as well."
"I'm so glad to hear you say that," Verosika said in relief. "I came to like you a lot as we spent more time together. And when you were shot, I thought about what it would be like to never hear your laugh, see your smile or have you tell me that everything would be all right after a day of shit hitting the fan," Verosika paused and she began tearing up a bit, "I love you."
"I love you too," Millie said. Verosika bent down and the two of them kissed.

Author's notes: I'm going to leave it ambiguous if Roberta White was behind all the attacks or just this one. It's realistic in the 'stuff happens and you never find out why' sense of the word.
