Aleatha

"Hey, Cody I'm leaving for my lunch," I heard a chuckle, "have fun at the library hot stuff. If you find a hottie, bring him back here so I can stare at some eye candy."

"I'll try Cody, no promises." I shook my head and left the building.

I met Cody a year ago when I moved to Alaska to get away from my parents. I hated the snow, so I thought this would be the last place my parents would think to search for me. Cody owns the coffee shop I work at. He hired me after I had helped him out after he had gotten drunk. We became great friends afterwards. I walked the short distance to the library. The moment I opened the door a little girl rammed into me. I landed on my ass with the little girl in my lap.

"What the hell?" A beautiful little girl was in my lap.

Her beauty was one that I had never seen before. Her eyes were sad, yet full of knowledge.

"Renesmee!" Such a pretty name.

"Hello, sweetie. Are you alright?" She met my gaze.

She looked so sad. Heartbroken even. I didn't understand how someone so young had to deal with that kind of pain. I saw a flash of a woman who looked so sick and then a younger version of the little girl in front of me. I shook my head to clear my thoughts.

"Renesmee! What have I told you about watching what you're doing?" I looked up to find a beautiful blonde young lady with golden eyes.

Danger.

Something told me this woman wasn't human. Impossible? Anyone else might think that, but I knew differently. I knew there were other things out there besides humans. I had lived after being attacked by one of those monsters. I felt arms wrap around my torso.

"Renesmee, let the nice woman go." Renesmee shook her head.

"No! I don't want to or you're going to make me leave! I don't want to leave Alaska! I like it here!" I looked up at the woman.

She looked angry, but there was a pity in her gaze.

"Renesmee," she looked up at me, "you should listen sweetie. Your family only wants what's best for you."

Renesmee looked angry, "she's not my family! My family is dead!"

I looked up at the blonde. Pain flashed across her face.

"Renesmee," she looked surprised, "that is something you never, ever say. Family is important. She loves you. Your family wouldn't make you move unless it was really important. So stand up and apologize. That is not okay to say no matter how bad you're hurting. It's okay to be sad and angry, but this is your family. We don't say those kinds of things because that hurts those we care about."

Renesmee was looking down. She hadn't let go, but I could see her trembling.

"I just miss my mommy!" Her little arms latched on around my neck.

I looked up at the blonde. She looked so sad. I held onto Renesmee and stood up.

"Can I treat you both to a desert? My lunch is almost over, and I work at a barista down the street," the blonde looked unsure, "I just wanna get her calmed down and speak to you."

The blonde relaxed.

"Sure. I'm Rosalie." I smiled at her.

"I'm Aleatha. It's nice to meet you both." She returned my smile.

I led the way to the coffee shop. When I walked in, Cody gasped.

"Damn, girl. If I wasn't as gay as they come I would tap that," I glared at him, "Cody! I have a child in my arms. You do know that right?"

He looked horrified, "oh, honey. I am so sorry. Come here and set her down."

I smiled, "I'm just teasing you. I'm sure she hears things all the time she isn't supposed to."

I set Renesmee down on a bar stool. I smiled at her.

"You can have one dessert and one non coffee drink for me. I am going to step outside and talk to your auntie." Renesmee gave me a smile.

However she still looked sad. I hooked arms with Rosalie. Her skin was cold to the touch. She tensed as we walked out the door. Once the door was closed she pulled away.

"How did you know I was her aunt and not her mother?" I smiled.

"The only similarity between you two is the perfect, flawless skin. I know what you are, but I don't go around telling people or vampires that I know about them. The only reason I know is because I was attacked by one. I didn't turn, but ended up with some of the very same abilities you have. So your secret is safe with me. However, I'm worried about Renesmee." I turned and watched her through the window.

"Why?" The venom in Rosalie's voice was plain as day.

I turned back to her, "Renesmee needs to stay in one place longer than a year. Coming from someone who had to move around all the time, she is just looking for something solid in her life. Knowing that her mother is dead and that her father isn't in the best head space, she is solid with you. In the house you reside in now. Don't take that away from her. I know I'm a stranger and you don't know me, but I grew up the way she is. No mother and a father who wasn't all there. Keep her here where she's happy. One day she'll look back and despise you for making her move around so much. So stay for her sake."

"How did you know that her father isn't in the best headspace?" I smiled at Rosalie.

"She told me, well showed me. She has a wonderful gift," Rosalie looked scared, "I will never reveal her secret or yours. I can tell by your golden eyes that you and your family only hunt animals. That's a relief for me. I never want to see one of your kind with red eyes."

I turned away and looked inside the shop. Renesmee looked happy. She was laughing and smiling. I grit my teeth.

"It was nice to meet you Rosalie, but I have to go home. Have a good day, both of you." I walked away.

I felt my eyes begin to water. Everything Renesmee had shown me along with everything in Rosalie's head it was too much on top of my own trauma. I cursed myself.

I should've never involved myself. I should've never touched Renesmee. Another gift means trouble. Soon my parents will find me, but for now I have to prevent that from happening.
