Chapter 1: Morning Comes or A Packet a Day Keeps The Zombies at Bay

The Sunlight enters through the hallway, the small beam of light seemingly cuts through the opening and lands upon a small child and their plant.

Olive is the first to wake up. For a moment they're disorientated by the fact that they're waking up in an odd location, but quickly the world begins to spin into focus. They can hear soft breathing in their lap, as the Sunflower they've been carrying rests soundly asleep. Her petals rise and dip with the breathing.

The very idea of a plant breathing utterly baffles Olive, but so has most of yesterday if they're being honest. Or night really, but the today doesn't seem to be getting any less odd.

Slowly, they rise to their feet and, despite their best efforts, wake up the passenger in their arms.

"Ugh, morning already? Can't I get 5 more minutes?"

"Sorry Sunny."

"It's fine, I can handle getting uuuuuuuugh."

And just like that, the plant starts to dip again.

"No, nevermind, I don't think I can keep myself up. Think you can do something about the lights? I don't think I'll be shining too bright any time soon."

"Uhm…"

Olive stares down at the plant for a moment.

"I can leave you here if you want?"

"No. No. I can handle the bouncing… Actually, you know what? Sure. Just make sure to come to me if you run into trouble. Got it?"

Olive nods, before placing Sunny on top of the wooden table (it takes some reaching, but they manage).

"Good. Good. I'll just be here. Holding down the foooorrrr…."

Sunny falls asleep once more.

Left to their devices, Olive is suddenly unsure of what to do now. Without Mom, they couldn't go to school, or anywhere really, not to mention it's also Saturday. A stomach's rumble quickly decides on their next course of action, they head to the side and grab a banana and apple from the drawers. While eating, they glance up to the lights, the room suddenly feeling that much darker.

That was something to do.

With a purpose in mind and banana in hand, they leave Sunny behind and enter the now bright hallway.

"Hmmph"

The Wallnut by the entryway greets the small gardener. Olive nods in reply, still unsure on how a walnut can grow that big.

'Sun Power, maybe? The packet said something like 'Sun cost', but I don't think plants usually cost sun. How do you even measure sunlight? No, How do you even pay by sunlight?'

Memories of a second seed packet cross their mind, and their steps quicken. By the time they make it over the dirty rug, the basement door, and to the front door, they've finished their banana and have started on their apple.

The remains of the front door nearly make Olive choke on their apple, as memories of zombies crashing through send a jolt down their spine. Slowly, the piece of apple makes it down their throat and they carefully step over the splintered remains of the door.

It's quiet outside.

Dead silent. No passing cars, no people walking, no sounds of life.

Nothing but the howling wind rushing through the trees.

Dread creeps in, and Olive does their best to ignore it.

What they can't ignore, however, is a deep cough that suddenly seems to tear its way out of their throat. They double over for a bit, holding their stomach as they wheeze, as, suddenly, something just feels off about the air.

And just as soon as the cough and feeling came… it all stops.

Sucking in a few gasps of air, Olive stands back up straight. After a moment of confusion, they eventually recover, decide to ignore whatever just happened, and pick up the seed packet laying on the floor at their feet.

It reads as follows:

"Pea Shooter, the best staple to any build. Need something that can handle a regular zombie for a cheap price? Then think of Pea Shooter! These plans mean it literally when they say 'Eat your peas.' Note: Make sure you give them plenty of space to rest between shots. Attack 100, Defense 1, Cost 100. Each package contains 4 Peashooters, use them wisely! Can only be planted in soil."

On the back, scribbled in black marker:

These guys can't move after they've been planted, but they should automatically face the direction that gives them the longest range. So, make sure to plant them on long, narrow paths. If you can, try planting them on something movable. More Packets coming soon. -CD

'Who's CD?'

A/N: And the new POV is closer to home then some might of thought. It's Olive! but exactly like Sunny's POV.

Oh, and to answer a review from last chapter, Olive's POVs will typically have more Plants vs Zombies game elements, as they will tend to not have Sunny doing most of the work. Hope you enjoy!
