Ok, the premise of this is Minecraft in real life.
It started out with an idea of what I might do with Minecraft powers in real life.
That lead me to consider what kind of challenges I would face and what I could do, especially since I'm aiming for having access to any mod I know sufficiently well, which is key since I aim to have Garden of Glass rules running for me.
Still, that doesn't change the fact... That I don't really want to fight humanity. Bad enough I'll have to deal with the corrupt, but I'm just one person. I don't see how it might end well if I have to fight the system as it is on my own.
Which means I need something to shake the status quo. Something I can fight.
And then I figured, why not something tailor made to the situation?
That's right, Minecraft in real life. And all that that entails.
Which leads me to the setting.
Name pending, my SI is Jaxx Kellington. Yes the pun is intentional, which is why I'm probably not going to keep it at that. Anyway, Jaxx lives alone in an apartment. Similar to me, obviously.
Only one morning, he wakes up to find he has powers. Like me, he's a long time veteran of playing Minecraft, including modded Minecraft. When he opens up his inventory on accident by 'willing it' via direction(like how there's a sign in the corner of the screen that tells you to open the inventory, except maybe just a big hallucinatory window in the middle of his vision), it becomes pretty obvious what's going on. (I'm torn on whether he should have a dirt block or nothing in his inventory, namely whether Minecraft resources should be separate but convertible into real world resources, or if real world resources should straight up convert back and forth between regular and minecraft sources like I had in that other story sorta.)
Anyway, the big issue that no one knows is really bad except for conspiracy nuts (aliens man!), is that a field of meteors of an unknown material is headed right for Earth. The government knows a bit more than most, namely the odd material thing and are worried. The general public is being told not to panic though and that most of the meteor shower is just going to pass by or skim the atmosphere in a great display of shooting stars.
At the same time as Jaxx discovers his powers, the meteors start to ever so slowly... slow down. By sunset for Jaxx, the meteors come to a full stop at lunar orbit distance. Baffled, scientists everywhere watch this phenomenon, but everyone is distracted when the mobs show up.
See, this is an invasion fleet, bent on destroying Earth. Beyond that action being taken, the motivation is unknown. The meteors are just meteors though, carrying great stalks of nourishing purpur plants and end cities for Endermen, with their mind controlling enslaving master, The Ender Dragon landing upon and establishing the moon as a base of operations to start attacking the planet, establishing portals deep in the Earth and dungeons to protect them, thus enabling mobs to come out of the shadows, and Endermen to teleport down to the planet, firmly under the control of their master.
This isn't your run of the mill zombie apocalypse. We're talking giant spiders, exploding Creepers, uncannily accurate bow shooting skeletons, and the zombies themselves which turn those they kill into the undead. And then there are the Endermen, causing havoc and facilitating and aiding the other mobs as needed. Mob spawners are getting placed by the enslaved Endermen to unleash even more mobs, and sea monuments are sprouting in the oceans and along coastlines, pouring out Guardians that are killing the local wildlife along with the world navies. The air forces of the world aren't too badly off at first, but planes have to refuel sometime, and when they land is when Creepers cause problems.
To be fair, the military has this mostly covered. Guns are very effective. But for the most part, the military is caught with their pants down by an unending swarm that can appear from any shadow. It only takes one Creeper surprising you from the middle of your formation to throw the entire group into chaos. And unfortunately, all mobs are targetting all humans. Animals don't seem to be bothered, but who knows why though? It's not like you can ask any of the monsters why they're doing this. You either accept death or you fight back.
Luckily there is one caveat though. Mobs only tend to spawn from shadows from a certain distance. Something like 8 or 16 meters. So if you're stuck in a dark room, if it's sufficiently small enough, you should be fine... for the most part.
The consequences of the sudden invasion has the whole world in disarray. By morning most everywhere has been destroyed or is on its way to it. Many are dead or dying or infected by zombieism. Governments are in disarray and pockets of resistance are up everywhere, particularly around whatever is left of power generation as people figure out flooding light everywhere creates safe zones. Evacuations are called, general chaos and pretty much anarchy is everywhere... and amidst all this...
Jaxx decides to use his powers to try and help... and thus gets to the meat of the story.
...Unfortunately, I'm not really sure what follows at this point. I mean, sure it might be interesting? But a large amount of it would be A) rehashing building stuff in Minecraft in story format which is... meh. I mean, the whole idea was to see how minecraft stuff could be used/repurposed/studied to improve things in real life and... this story doesn't do that as it stands right now. And B)I suppose we'd get character interactions as the other main beef of the story, though most 'survivor group' stories seem to be about the drama and how things barely hold together and tension and blah and that doesn't sound like fun writing to me. I dunno. Sounds like a neat story, but me actually writing it? Eh... Perhaps not.
Couple ideas I had to throw in there were the Enderdragon essentially 'inflicting' the Nether onto the Earth. Like, it wasn't there, but now it is, thanks to all this, and the Enderdragon uses hate/rage/fear of the last remaining humans to fuel the creation of the Wither(s), which would result in the ultimate destruction of humanity as it would hunt down and exterminate every last human while raining explosive destruction from on high.
Another idea I had is that the main character, who gets the title of the Minecraftian, is basically holder of a title power, like Turok, only this is Minecraft powers like Steve's got, which includes being effectively immortal via respawning. I kinda had this idea where the Minecraftian has to beat the Enderdragon and go through newly made End Portal in order to finally die since part of the idea is that eventually the Minecraftian would get tired and his power is tied into the dragon's, and after entering the portal, a new person gets the Minecraftian power set, chosen by the previous on the way to their final End. Only prob there is that I also had the idea that a new Minecraftian would also mean a new Enderdragon since their powers are supposed to be intertwined or something?
End result is that there's no getting rid of this new paradigm of reality mixed with Minecraft and Earth is just going to have to adapt to the new situation, with the Minecraftian helping (hopefully helping and not hindering) it along.
So yeah... There's the idea. Probably going to move this to my ideas folder since I don't know if I actually want to write this one myself.
