Chippewa Falls

1st January 1913

Rose was 8 and a half months pregnant now, grateful for the community she had around her, who constantly offered her support and a lot of people had bought her an outfit or so for the new baby.

"So, only 2 weeks left?" Marie raised an eyebrow. "Yep…" Rose replied with a nervous sigh. "You nervous?" Marie asked. "Absolutely terrified" Rose nodded. "You'll be OK… you have everyone around you, and my Dad is going to continue to pay you your normal wage, so you don't need to worry in that respect" Marie tried to reassure her. "I'm not worried about that… I'm so grateful to your Dad for that, but I'm just scared I'll mess it up, that I can't take care of a baby" Rose replied sadly. "I know you can, Rose. and I'll always be here to help. Hey, a baby? I'll never be away" Marie smirked, making Rose laugh "I'd appreciate that more than I think you know…" she smiled gently. "Do you still not have an idea of what you're having?" Marie asked "no" Rose replied "no idea" she chuckled. "Do you have a preference?" Marie asked "not at all, just a healthy baby" Rose nodded then flinched as she got a sharp pain in her stomach. "Rose?" Marie raised an eyebrow concerned "are you OK?" She continued "I'm fine" Rose nodded. "I think I'm going to head home for a lie down" she smiled weakly. "I'm going to come with you, just in case. I'll stay in the living room out of your way, but I'd hate for you to be on your own if you went in to labour" Marie replied as she mimicked Rose and stood up. "Thank you" Rose smiled weakly as they left the diner.

They arrived home and Rose headed in to the kitchen to get herself and Marie a glass of water before she went to lie down, but sighed to herself as her waters broke on the way to her bedroom. "OK… you're alright. Everything's fine. You go and get in to bed, I'm going to go and get the Doctor. I'll be back in no time" Marie reassured her. "Thank you" Rose replied as her eyes began to fill with tears, watching as Marie left the house.

Around 20 minutes later, the Doctor arrived. Rose answered the door as she winced in pain. "Hello Mrs Wilson, are you ready to have a baby?" He smiled as he entered the house once Rose stepped aside. 'No' Rose thought to herself, but nodded nonetheless. "Where's Marie?" Rose asked confused, assuming her friend would return with the Doctor. "I sent her home. Unless it's the Father in the house, we normally prefer the home empty. It almost always proves less chaotic that way" the Doctor nodded as he opened her brief case. Rose nodded weakly, disappointed that she would be giving birth alone. Sure, all she wanted was Jack to be with her for this experience, but as he wasn't, Marie, as her best friend, seemed like the next best thing.

"Now, do you feel ready to push?" The doctor raised his eyebrow as he put on his gloves. "I think so…" Rose nodded. "Well whenever you're ready" the Doctor replied, watching as Rose's face began to screw up in pain as she began to push.

40 minutes later

Rose threw her head back as the room began to fill with cries. 'Thank God' she thought to herself. "Congratulations, you have a baby girl!" The Doctor smiled as he placed the baby on her chest. Rose laughed, relieved and in disbelief. "Hello" she cooed down at the baby, smiling to herself as she began to settle almost immediately.

Around 10 minutes passed and the doctor took the baby from Rose to check her over, passing her back a few moments later. "Does she have a name?" the doctor asked, getting a nod from Rose, though she didn't take her eyes of her "Emilia… Emilia Josefine" "lovely" the Doctor smiled gently back. "Well, I'll stick around for an hour, just in case anything changes, but then I'll head off and give you 2 some time alone" "thank you Doctor" Rose smiled gently, still keeping her eyes on Emilia.
