"Miss Summers, if you could stay for a moment, I need to speak with you." The Librarian/Watcher guy said as Buffy started gathering her books and papers after she and Willow, with Johnathan's help, had finished going over everything and had arranged a future study time together.

"I don't have time, maybe later." She didn't even bother looking at him, unless she was absolutely forced too, she was not going to be getting involved with Slaying anytime soon, hopefully. And that meant ignoring the lastest import from the Land of Tweed who thought he could tell her what to do. She followed Willow out of the library, with Johnathan bringing up the rear of their mini conga line. Out of the corner of her eye she could see the astonished look on his face, he really had expected her to just jump when he said so. She hadn't had time to break Merrick out of that assumption before he'd died, how long would it take to break this one out of it?

"So, what's fun to do in the middle of winter in Sunnydale, California after school lets out for the day?" Buffy asked, as they headed for their lockers.

"Aren't you friends with Cordelia?" Willow asked.

"I just met her today, she's been nice. To me. But I haven't made any plans with her. So any advice for the new girl?"

"Unless you're into bowling or miniature golfing, the only thing is the Bronze." Willow informed her, as they stopped at her locker and traded her books for her seventh period classes.

"The Bronze?"

"Teen/young adult hang out place at the edge of the business district. Just follow Main Street, the entrance is in an alleyway to the left of Main Street. We don't have a whole lot of town here and it's not hard to find."

"Thanks, maybe I'll see you there." Buffy offered. Her nominal popularity meant she needed to make friends elsewhere from Cordelia and her class of friends and Willow seemed nice, which had never been a criteria Buffy had ever tried in a friend before. New ground for her.

"Well, Johnathan and I are planning to be there, so probably."

"Is he your boyfriend?"

"Oh, God no, just a friend. When we were kids our families went to Temple together, plus school."

"Temple?"

"We're Jewish, is that a problem for you?"

"Not as far as I know. See you later." Buffy headed off to her last class of the day, feeling optimistic. Yeah, Willow was a possibility as a friend.

After the last class finished for the day, Buffy headed home and seeing her mom wasn't home yet, made herself a snack before vegging in front of the tv. Her mom got home about an hour later.

"Do you have any homework, Buffy?" Joyce asked her daughter.

"Yeah, some." Buffy answered absently, the show she was watching really wasn't very interesting, but the topic of homework was even less so and she had managed to get some of it done in the Library with Willow and Johnathan.

"Honestly, Buffy, it's the first day and instead of doing the responsible thing and working on your homework, you're watching tv." Buffy's irresponsibility was a constant source of irritation for Joyce.

"I got most of it done in the Library this afternoon." Buffy told her. "The school gave me the wrong History book, so one of the girls in my History class introduced me to a tutor, who helped me go over everything to see if I'm behind. All I have is what was assigned in the last class period after that."

"Well, that's good to know." Joyce was pleasantly surprised. "But you should still get any homework you have done as soon as you get home if you expect to go out."

"Okay, I was hoping to go to this teen hangout place tonight called the Bronze. Willow, the girl who was helping me, told me about it. She seems nice, possible friend material. I'll get my homework done now."

This announcement was even more pleasing to Joyce, a potential friend who wasn't a jock, cheerleader or delinquent? Unless Buffy was lying and Joyce really hoped she wasn't.

"That's good to hear too. I'm going to get cleaned up and changed before starting supper. I had a busy day unpacking inventory at the gallery." Joyce headed upstairs and Buffy grabbed her school bag and pulled her books and supplies out and sat down at the table. Her mom had already put up with a lot because of the Slaying stuff she didn't know about and unlike the Watcher, Buffy didn't plan to ignore her mother.

After supper she headed out and quickly found Main Street and started down it, checking the alleyways as she went, instinctively alert for vampires. Then she heard the sound of footsteps behind her, she doubted a normal human would have heard whoever it was, they moved on very silent feet. Maybe a mugger? Wanting to avoid getting in trouble for beating up a human again, she acutely remembered breaking that one guy's arm accidentally just after she'd activated when he grabbed her butt, she increased her walking speed and soon found the Bronze. After paying the cover charge, she headed in to find her potential new friend, Willow.
