A/N Ah yes, Kyro, The Lie, apparently proof of Xander's jealousy and ultimate goal to get into Buffy's pants.
Except as one of those fans essays points out, despite the fans insisting that everything he does has to be jealousy related, his actions on the show don't agree with that belief. By the start of season 2's 'When She Was Bad' ends Xander stops displaying obvious signs of jealousy and by the time Ampata appeared less than a month later, he's willing to move on to another girl. He backtracks a little during the love spell, but quickly drops it again and wholeheartedly embraces a relationship with Cordelia when she chooses him.
In the comics I've heard there's a scene where Buffy decides to give Xander a chance and he turns her down, which apparently shocks her as she fully believed he'd jump at the chance. But he's moved on a long time ago and she just didn't notice. Since he's meant to be both Joss' voice and the audience substitute this seems like an obvious dig, Joss basically saying, 'Hey people accept it, Xander's not jealous and got over Buffy a long time ago!' He was way more jealous of Cordelia flirting with Wesley than he was over any of Buffy's boyfriends.
Despite what the audience wants to believe, Joss and the writers are adamant, the Lie had nothing to do with jealousy, it was Xander putting the world ahead of one person's happiness and it was the right call.
Incidentally season 2 is when SMG says she began compaigning for Buffy and Xander to be together, something she continued to do over the run of the entire show.

"Ampata?" Buffy approached a boy about her age with deep bronze skin at the bus station.
"Yes, I am Ampata." He assured her. "Are you Miss Summers?"
"Yes, Buffy Summers. Welcome to America. I hope you enjoy your stay with us. Did you have any luggage?"
"Yes, a trunk. It has my clothes and the costume I will wear for the Cultural Dance."
"I haven't decided what I'm going to wear myself." Buffy confessed to him as the two moved to the side of the bus and together pulled out his trunk. "I've got a cab waiting over here." She told him. "I can help you with the trunk or we can get the driver to help if you want."
"No need, it has wheels." He demonstrated by lifting it on one end and pulling it smoothly behind him, following her to the cab, where the driver did help him load it in the trunk. Buffy gave the driver the address of her home and climbed in the back with Ampata.
"Your English is great." She told him. "Aside from knowing the names of some Mexican foods, I don't know any Spanish, I'm taking French in school."
"Nowadays, knowing English as a second language is pretty much a requirement, so it's taught in school. But this is my first time speaking English while in America, so if I make a mistake, please tell me, I do not wish to offend."
"Most of the people you'll meet at my school tomorrow don't want to offend either. Any that do, on behalf of America, I apologize in advance for them."
"Unnecessary, but appreciated." He smiled charmingly at her and for the first time in quite awhile Buffy felt her heart skip a beat. He was very cute. 'This week is looking great and I hope I didn't just jinx myself.' She thought, as they continued to chat until the driver arrived at her house and Buffy took Ampata inside and introduced him to her mother, who showed him to the guest room and than made hot chocolate for the three of them while they got to know each other.
Johnathan decided to go to the Bronze on his own as he had no homework to do and he hoped to run into Alex and his pack and let them know about the vamps that appeared to be following Buffy, but found they weren't there, the pack not having informed the others about the two times each month when they were locked in one form, the new moon when they were locked in human form and tonight, the full moon, when they were locked in wolf form, so Johnathan was the only one there. And the only one to notice a pretty new girl who actually smiled at him.
My name is Anacaona." She told him. "You may call me Ana."
"Are you one of the exchange students for Cultural Week?" He asked her. "By the way, I'm Johnathan and that's a pretty name."
"It's nice to meet you Johnathan and yes, you could say I'm a, as you say, exchange student. And my name means golden flower."
"So are you enjoying yourself so far?" He tried making small talk, hoping she'd want to continue talking to him. "And my name means Yahweh has given. Yahweh being a name for the god my people follow."
"Yes, I am. It feels very free."
"It's meant to, we take that 'Land of the Free' thing seriously." He assured her.
In the lair Spike had taken over he studied the little bit of video the useless minions had managed to get as they both reported that the Slayer had spotted them and chased them. Despite the limited footage he did manage to note that the Slayer seemed to spend a lot of time with two humans, one male, one female. Both of them small and not showing any sign that they might be the Magic users that Warded the school and the mother's business, something Spike had tested for himself by throwing a couple minions at the Wards and watching them sizzle for a bit before bouncing off. A plan was starting to form.
