Spider-Man's entire body felt like rocks. Everything still ached, from his back to his head. But he could tell something was helping to ease his pain.
Opening an eye slowly, he started to take in the room around him, finding it unfamiliar. He wasn't in any sort of hospital, but he was hooked up to some hospital equipment. There was a heart rate monitor, beeping steading and an IV with blood, pumping the stuff steadily into his wrist.
"Geez, wish I had gotten the number of that bus, cause I'm still hurting," he mumbled.
"Hey, you're awake."
Spider-Man slowly sat himself up, looking across from the bed to see Nightwing. It only took a few seconds after that to realize just where he was.
"Am I in the Batcave?"
Nightwing nodded. "Yup, welcome to the famous, secret cave."
"But why? I thought I wouldn't get to come here for a while."
The other hero sighed. "You were injured in the fight with Glauca… Had to take you somewhere safe rather than the hospital."
"But the equipment?"
"Ig… Uh, we have someone who works for us who knows how to treat wounds."
Spider-Man nodded. "Guess it makes sense. Otherwise I would've seen you on the news at the local hospital, ha ha!"
"Yeah, but you're going to be okay now. We're taking care of you."
Feeling relieved, Spider-Man stretched a little before going to rub his tired eyes. It only took him a few seconds to realize he felt his skin under his finger tips. There was no glove to mask barrier, the one that was supposed to be between hand and face.
Heart racing increasing, Spider-Man pressed his hands up to his face, moving them slowly upward until he felt his hair.
Spider-Man, no, Prompto was unmasked!
Prompto immediately glared at Nightwing. "You unmasked me?!"
Nightwing stood up quickly, running to Prompto's side. "We had to. You were really hurt from the battle, and we had to check you weren't bleeding and stuff under the mask."
"But you unmasked me!" Prompto accused.
"I know. But you have to understand that we had to."
"No, no you didn't!
"You were injured! How else were we supposed to check for injuries? Just let me explain, Prompto."
Nightwing was reaching his hand out towards Prompto. Quickly, Prompto swatted his hand away as he continued to glare. "Don't call me that! You don't know me! Just cause you got supercomputers to do research and anyone you want, doesn't mean that you can call me that name!"
Honestly, Prompto wasn't sure why he felt so angry about this. He knew deep down he could probably trust Nightwing with the secret, but there was still that small sense of betrayal.
His secret identity was exactly that for a reason; a secret. It was meant to keep him safe and everyone who was close to him. Even the smallest exposure could be disastrous in the long run.
"Please, just let me explain," Nightwing replied.
"You promised you wouldn't try to find out my secret identity," Prompto muttered.
"I know, and that's why I want to tell you-"
"I don't want to hear it!"
Without having much of an easy way to move off the bed, he was unable to avoid Nightwing grabbing his shoulders, holding him firmly.
"Let me explain, Prompto. Please. You can let me do that, can't you?"
Letting out a huff of air, he rolled his eyes. "Fine. You got one chance."
Nightwing let go of him before he sat down on the edge of the bed. His hands slowly reached up to his own mask, his fingers trailing around the edge before reaching under to pull it off. He closed his eyes as he let go of the mask, letting it drop to the bed.
Prompto watched as Nightwing started adjusting his hair, trying to comb it down to look less wild.
Then, he looked up and opened his eyes.
Prompto swore his heart plumped it, falling down deep into a pit of complete confusion.
"N-Noctis?"
"I didn't do anything to find out your identity… cause I kind of already knew who you were," he admitted softly.
That part didn't matter anymore to Prompto, instead he was still trying to wrap his head around what he was seeing before him.
"Noct… you're Nightwing?!"
"And you're Spider-Man," Noctis returned.
"But how the hell did I not see it before! I got a full mask, you just have the eye mask yet I never put it together."
Noctis smiled, reaching over to pick up his mask. "It's part of the magic I use. It's embedded into my suit and mask, giving off this kind of illusion so no one can connect the dots."
It almost sounded like a dream. He was talking to Noctis, who was actually Nightwing, and learning more about his secrets than he ever thought he would.
"So, you really have magic?"
Noctis nodded. "Yeah. We got this special magic… can't really go into too much detail about it right now, but it runs in my family."
"Wow, that's pretty cool. But hey, if you got all this magic and can fight, does that mean when you had to stay at the Citadel 'for your protection' it was a lie?"
He watched Noctis look off to the side, his eyes a little sadden. "Yeah, gotta keep up appearances… Appearances that the prince needs to be protected and Nightwing is the one who saves the city."
"Wow, Noct, I had no idea. I mean, I didn't know of course, but I never thought of you like that."
"Don't have to lie, Prom. Everyone thinks so."
"But I don't!"
Noctis looked back at him, giving an almost sly smirk. "Then who was it that swooped me into his arms to swing me away from rouge Kingsglaive a little while back."
Suddenly, every moment of that interaction came flooding back, causing his face to start burning. "O-oh that moment. Y-yeah, you know that was just what I thought in the heat of the moment. But, I was doing what I thought was best."
Chuckling, Noctis reached his hand over again, taking Prompto's into his. "Yeah, I know. And you did a good job with the hero stuff."
Cheeks still burning warmly, he took in a few deep breaths to try and soothe his racing heart. "T-thanks. You're good at the hero stuff too."
"Heh, yeah I know. But uh, guess this makes things easier, doesn't it?"
"What do you mean?" Prompto asked, tilting his head to the side.
"We kissed, and we wanted to figure things out, but we both had crushes on someone else. Well, kind of…"
Prompto raised an eyebrow. "Kind of?"
Noctis started to chuckle softly. "I had a crush on Spider-Man… and you. My crush was one in the same."
Prompto almost couldn't believe what he was hearing. Part of him was sure that this was just a cream, and he was still unconscious from the battle against Glauca. But Noctis's hand holding on to his was warm and reassuring. It helped ground him, reminding him that this was reality, that this was real.
"M-mine too. My c-crush I mean. You w-were the other," Prompto stuttered nervously.
Noctis leaned closer, his arms wrapping around Prompto gently, not to disturbed the IV. "I'm glad."
Prompto hugged him back tightly, burning his face into the crock of Noctis's neck. "So, does that mean we were double crushing on each other?"
"Heh, sounds like it."
"And you still want to… you know?"
"Prom, I've had a crush on you for so long, I wouldn't want it any other way."
Prompto started laughing giddily, still enjoying the embrace. Everything he had worried about with Noctis and Nightwing was all gone. He no longer had to worry about which path he had to choose.
"Love you, Noct," he whispered.
"Love you, too."
For a few moments, Prompto soaked up the warmth, letting their hearts speak for themselves. He was happy, and he wanted every single second to last for hours. He knew he'd have to let go eventually, but for now he was going to keep holding on.
"So… This means your dad is Batman?"
"Yeah, it does."
"Dude, that's so cool."
"Not as cool as you, Mr 'clinging to walls' Spider-Man."
Leaning back from the hug slightly, Prompto started to laugh as he looked at Noctis. "Guess we can both talk about our powers now. I have so many questions."
Noctis reached one hand up, cupping Prompto's cheek. "We can talk all you want. But first…"
Prompto watched as Noctis started to bring his head in close, with their lips touching a second later.
It was just as electrifying as before. The magic between them made his heart dance with delight, craving more of this wondrous feeling.
He was in love, and now he finally had the chance to fully express it, and he was going to not shy away from it. Now that he knew Noctis loved him back, he was ready to fully open up his heart to him.
