"Just my luck," I grumble, grabbing a plastic mug (if I dropped it, I didn't want glass all over the floor). "In all my dreams about meeting my favorite book characters, this is definitely not how the conversation went." I turn on the coffee machine and tap my foot impatiently on the floor. In this short minute and a half of waiting for a cup of coffee, I hear about three thuds, two crashes, and a lot of shouting. Am I curious about what causes these sounds? Yes. Do I go investigate? No. Not without my coffee.
As soon as the stupid machine is done pouring, I snatch my cup and peek into the foyer. All of a sudden, an arrow comes flying right towards my face, and I duck to avoid it. I pop up again, shouting,
"Okay, who the hell just tried to kill me?!"
"Duck, Kira!" Someone yells. I comply, seeing the same arrow whiz back over my head.
"Legolas!" Ziri shouts in warning, and the Elf easily avoids the arrow, which flies straight until it embeds itself in a wall with a thud.
"Boomerang arrow, really?" I ask Clint, rolling my eyes. I sip my coffee, which lightens my mood a bit. "So I presume you met each other? And…" I raise an eyebrow towards the doorway, "Thor, probably." Well, that explains one of the thuds from earlier.
"Yes, I have met your interesting friends," Thor turns back to the Elves. "Are you quite sure you are not from Alfheim?"
"I have never heard of such a place," Ziri folds her arms. I check my watch again.
"Ten minutes," I groan. "Give me a second. Legolas, Ziri, come on." I move off to the kitchen, barely managing to keep my cool. I drink my coffee and take a couple of deep breaths as the Elvish siblings lean against a countertop.
"Okay, listen," I start. "To be blunt, you guys don't belong here in the slightest. However, at the moment, it's hard to search for a way back. I have school for a few more months, Dad's busy with… stuff, my stepmom needs to run a company, and the rest of us Avengers, well… most of us are scattered, except for these meetings. In the meantime, though, I guess you're all stuck here." At this pronouncement, the Elves simply look at each other and shrug.
"The War of the Ring ended years ago," Ziri says. "I've been extremely bored and stuck with Legolas for a while now. This is a nice change."
"Regardless, we have about two days to get you two blend into society," I muse.
"Why two days?" Legolas asks.
"Cause on Monday I have to go to school, and considering JARVIS can't keep an eye on you because he only has eyes and a voice, you'll have to come with," I sigh. "Trust me, I'd rather leave you here, but that's definitely not an option. Now, we have a meeting happening in five minutes. Just be silent. Not much should be happening anyway." The Elves nod and I walk out, finishing my coffee and putting the cup in the sink on the way out. School. Goddamn school.
A/N: I wasn't feeling particularly inspired, but trust me, it'll get better. Reviews appreciated!
